How easy the back of the phone is scratched? - Sony Xperia M2

I've read a review which said that the back of Xperia M2 (not Aqua version) is easily scratched.
Is it true? If it's true, could you tell me based on your experience how easy it is the back of the phone is scratched?

I'd heard this also as it is quite glossy plastic. So at the same time as ordering the phone I ordered a thin gel skin and screen protector. I've had the phone about a year and it's still in great condition because of this. Without it I'd say the gloss would show up scratches pretty easily.
Sent from my D2303 using Tapatalk

thin gel skin? any picture for that? and where you get it?

Yes it will scratch easy, but if you look after it it will be fine. I use a shell type case but i think you can actually buy rear scratch protection film, my m2 is 12mths old now but still looks like I just took it out of the box as I take care of it. At least it's not glass so no unexpected cracking of the back cover like z devices

Just on eBay. There are a variety of different gel skins and cases. I used to like the shell cases but they took away some of the daintiness of the phone - which is fine if you like a rugged look.
I've never even taken the plastic off the back of the phone from the packaging - which is probably over kill haha.

You can get really thin ones the one I'm using barely makes it any bigger, just enough for a good grip so I don't drop it. Screen protectors the best I've found that aren't the crappy glass ones are by mediadevil had my current one on since the new year still looks as good as the day I put it on

Screen shield and gorilla glass

I bought this phone about 20 days ago now and had have a screen shield since day one. Recently I found out that this phone has gorilla glass. So my question is the feel and swyping action of gorilla glass is better than with screen shield? Anyone have played around with both? Would it be safe to take off this screen shield?
What have been your experiences?

I have had a vibrant for 9 or 10 months now and it was used with no sheild.... there are micro scratches and large scratches all over the screen... your better of leaving the shield on.

I used the invisi shield screen protector on my vibrant for a month and took it off. Took away from the smooth feel of the screen.
As long as you keep it away from keys, and other metal things. It will be perfect. I just keep an empty pocket in my jeans and there is no reason it should get any scratches.

Stock Belt clip case FTW, 1 month, no issues
I've got the Otter Case and put the included screen protector on. Left it on about 1 day and removed it. The look and feel of the plain Gorilla Glass is just too nice to hide behind plastic. Kind of like buying a nice couch and putting a plastic slip cover on it. Something your grandmother (or great grandmother) might have done. I just try to keep it away from keys.

I got lifetime warranty on my screen protector so I will try without it. If I don't like it I'll just get it again.
The good thing about this though is that it gives me peace of mine.

I use zagg invisible shield, it's quality, love it, love the feel and everything, looks 100% flawless, and frankly improves the screen if you ask me.
Others have talked about lines etc from it, I have no clue what they're talking about.
If anything the zagg invisible shield improved my phones look AND feel.
went naked with first sgs4g, wont do it again with the new one. I didnt use one the first time because everyone was saying that gorilla glass pretty much wont scratch. I tried my best to keep it away from keys and things but somehow still managed to get a few scratches. A pack of protectors and a belt clip off of amazon for about 6 bucks total and you cant even tell there is a screen protector on there.
i managed to scratch mine in a day, i recommend a screen protector (but not the ones that T-Mobile sell, those look like crap)
i got the phone replaced and have had one on mine ever since
What brand, Success100?

Personally I love to use BSE. Best skin ever. Its like zagg but not as thick plus 10x cheaper. The feel is more better then zagg imo because I don't like how thick the zagg protector skin is and yes I tried it on my ipod and iphone. I have it on my old iphone, ipod, my old mytouch, and my gorlfriend's sgs4g also. I place my protector the next day after I got my phone and it still feels like new but again start away from keys :/.

I do the same thing. I run my SGS4G without a screen protector. I always have it in an empty pocket and I'm pretty careful of it.
My wife has a screen protector and gel case for her MT4G though, lol she is always dropping that thing.

+1 for Best skins ever.
I got the body skin. comes with border skin for the silver edging, but that becomes unsightly and annoying, quickly. Just kept front and back on. You only really need the front, IMO.
My only concern about keeping the back on is overheating should I begin to overclock the cpu.
i bought 3 for 2.99 on ebay dint even fit my screen.. what a waist
I had a screen protector from t-mobile, got all scratched, so I took it out.
Man! What a difference!
But unfortunately I work in construction, so I just bought 3 on amazon for a buck each...

Had a Zagg on this phone, but it somehow slipped off...seemed like it was on perfectly, but it literally disappeared without me noticing (or finding it)...anyone ever experience anything like that with Zagg?
Last phone I had I went with a BSE, I'm probably going to go with that one now...
I just got the 3 screens I ordered for a buck each, and boy am I happy with them!
It doesn't take away from the super amoled, and it protects the entire screen, unlike the expensive one from t-mobile, which left the buttons unprotected.
It took a couple hours to install it, but it was well worth it!
If anyone is interested, search for xtreme guard on amazon.

The Realook screen protectors are excellent. 2 pack on amazon for about $11. I think they are better than the ebay ones, for the most part. Hate the zaggs and the way they feel. I don't know how anyone uses them.
Realooks are high quality and cut perfectly.
I had one on my daughter's phone and my wife grabbed it out of the dresser it was in and a screw was under than and scratched it really bad. She didn't realize there was a screen protector on and thought she ruined a 2 week old phone. I peeled off the protector and the screen was perfect. It didn't piece the protector.
I have a feeling with one of the $1 ones on ebay, the screen would have been severely damaged.
I buy the realooks for all my phones and have been happy every time.
Never had a problem with scratches, used to have vibrant, sold it now using SGS4G without a protector too. U Just have to be careful with it. Noting beats the feel of the screen itself
I've been using mine naked..managed to get some micro scratches but they don't bother me that much only one small deep scratch that i have but it's really not that bad at all.

Poll - Do you use a case on your Galaxy S6?

I bought a case but I don't like the appearance and feel of it so I took it off. If I pay 700$ for a nice looking phone I don't want to put it into an ugly case. Especially when it has Gorilla Glass 4 on front and back.
What do you guys think?
MKBHD has a nice video about phone cases here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btr8uOU0BkI
I hate it too. But i dropped my phone like 2 times average for every phone i owned. So... yeah... i feel safe to "naked" only when i am home
Probaby anyone can suggest a good looking case?
Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Yeah I always run cases on my devices since I like to keep them in prestine condition. I never drop my phones. If I do its maybe once a year lol but I still run one to be safe. I usually rock UAG because I can throw the phone around a little more than normal with those cases.
I didn't have a case on my Samsung Moment. I dropped it once and scratched up the side a bit. I put a skin on my HTC Evo Shift. Dropped it once and put a small dent in the plastic. When I got the S4, I decided I should protect it since it was more than I had ever paid for a phone, so I put a case on it. History suggested that I didn't particularly need it, but I'd rather have it and not need it than not have it when I need it. I can't replace my phone if I break it. I also went UAG on my S4 and loved it. I actually did drop the phone many times, but I might have also been less careful since I knew it had a case on it. With the S6, I wanted something maybe even slimmer than the UAG and that maybe could show off the good looks of my phone, so I went with a Spigen Ultra Hybrid.
I got a case that I love from spigen. It's not bulky, it's clear and it protects it from drop. It has that tech 21 rubbery feel.

I always rock cases on my phones. The S6 being glass on the front and back is definitely rocking one. Gorilla glass or not, it's still glass. I use the spigen neo hybrid. It looks classy and provides an adequate amount of protection for very little bulk added.

This is the case I use and it's very bulky and I don't like fake aluminium plastic. And not to mention the 1-2 mm raised lip front. Please dont say plastic looks classy.
I have always used cases to be on the safe side even though I have only dropped my phone once or twice at the most over the years, I will be using a case on my s6 when it arrives but as yet I'm undecided as to which case to get, I've considered the spiden neo hybrid but I have heard that it can reduce signal strength which I don't like the sound of, so I'm still looking for the right one
If you think this case is bulky, I'd hate to see what you'd say about a Otterbox Commuter or Defender series. That 1-2mm lip serves a purpose as drop protection. I don't consider slapping on a thin plastic low profile case as anything but scratch protection. If I'm going to put a case in a phone, it's primarily for drop protection. That being said, I do have the black version so it doesn't look like "cheap plastic aluminum"
I'm going to buy a simple TPU case, like the spigen liquid crystal

I bought the same case. It makes the phone less slippery wich is good. It also makes it slightly bulkier wich is bad. But it does feel protected.
Do you use that horrible back protector? I'm thinking of trying the case without it, hopefully it won't get scratched.
LOL the poll is so loaded. I have a case but I dont drop my phone. I just like keeping it in pristine condition. Having a case doesn't necessarily mean you are careless....
This is the case i use on mine. Its practically not even there, but offers some protection.

I have that Spigen crystal clear cover and stopped using it after a day. It always looks dirty and ugly, it irritates me too much. I'll keep it for travelling when needed.
Agree with MKBHD's comments in that video posted earlier, I don't like cases generally and may end up getting a skin to stop this being so slippery like he did with his M8
I use the exact case when I use a case.

Bulky AF but will protect the phone.
I have an iPhone 5S for work and it slipped out of my pocket and dropped from 2 feet high onto a concrete floor right on its top right corner. Screen turned into a spider web. I have a feeling same thing would happen to the S6. Better safe than sorry!

My 2 cents. Buy a cheap TPU case to use when you first get your phone. First, it takes time for your hands to get used to the shape of a new phone and your risk of dropping the phone is greatest during this period. Second, you will be playing with your new phone more often than you would normally, and increasing the risk of a drop. Third, your anxiety levels when going naked with your brand new and very expensive phone will counterbalance the enjoyment of having a naked phone.
After about a month, get rid of the cheap case and enjoy the phone naked, knowing that if you scratch it or drop it, you now have a reason to buy the next phone on the horizon....
I use the Spigen slim hard case (back cover) but now I cant get the damn thing off the phone. I feel like I'm going to break the phone removing it

Thin Fit is out of question not enough lip on the front
I would go for the crystal one simply because it offers better protection. Hopefully they will do one for the z5 Premium as I'm looking to get the Z5 Premium when its released.

Great. Keep us posted.
I got the Crystal case -- seems to warp the phone pretty nicely, the back is not pure clear, it has "dots" on it, so it makes it seem slightly cloudy (which I prefer tbh)

I managed to get the Thin Fit case in gunmetal.
It fits extremely well. There's no movement or creaking when pressure is applied. Unlike some other thin cases, this one gives a little protection to the bottom of the device aswell.
There is a small lip on the front. However, it's not massively clear in the attached images as I have the Spigen glass screen protector on my Z5 aswell.

Can't complain so far. Protection is minimal, but it's nice that it curves over the top and bottom of the device a little for some extra protection.
The buttons are about as good as they'll get with a case. The power button is more recessed than before, but doesn't impede operation in any way. You're just aware there's a case on when touching the fingerprint sensor as you can clearly feel the edges of the case.
It really feels like a premium case, which is often difficult to accomplish with a single piece plastic shell ?

Are the volume and camera buttons totally uncovered? I have a case that I bought with the phone that has grooved covered buttons; the volume button is nearly nonfunctional; the camera button is worse.
yes they are, but it could do with a bit more access to the buttons

I just got the Orzly Flexislim case. I love it a lot because it looks like the phone is naked.
It is really thin, and the Black Smoke color one, is roughly the same color as the so called "Black" Z5C (which in reality is more grey than black). The only protection this case will give you is light scratches from keys\coins in pocket or placing phone on table\cupholder\w.e . It won't protect against a drop. It is actually slightly more "slippier" than the naked phone, but not by much.

I have the Sony SCR44 case.
Good:
It works as advertised, with a small app on the windows, were you can check email, calendar, control music.
Quality material.
Bad:
Not magnetic, keeps opening.
Window gets dirty very easily.
The fit does not look secure, you can take out the phone too easily.
I got a Nillkin hard case, sold here under a different name.
Quite frankly I prefer the phone with this case on it. It's that good. Everything is cut out and shaped perfectly, plus it has a wonderful texture on the back.

I've just picked it up too and agree completely. Do you have a constant alert on the main widget saying you have receieved a message? I haven't, but it wants me to think I have. I'm using Google's Messenger as my default SMS app so think that may be related...
EDIT: Scrap that. I added the Sony Clock 2 widget and moved it to the far right position, then removed the default widget. I don't get the weather update any more, but it's good enough.

Naked is best ... until you break a 700$ phone. Happenend to me. I'm using a tempered glass screen-protector and a very nice transparent backplate now. Won't save it from a fall on concrete but at least it's less slippery and i can put it down without scratching the back.

Happened to me too. But I still won't use a case or protector
Scratches are for me a total non-issue and slipperiness can be addressed by a vinyl back without increasing the phones size.
I find it silly to pay $$$ for design and thinness and then put it in a case. But preferences differ.
Thank you

Case included with phone

So first off loving my 1+6 (8/128). Super fast and just plain awesome! Puts my S8+ in the dust
But my main reason for this post is about the included phone case that came with the phone. I haven't seen anyone mention it on here, so wasn't sure if anyone was aware. But inside the box the the phone is attached to once you unbox it, there is a basic style phone case inside. It's nothing fancy, but it's a case. And it's FREE. I actually like it, and was so glad it was there as I didn't want to wait several days for a case to be ordered and delivered. Granted, I completely bypassed that part of the unboxing as it usually just includes the "paperwork" that nobody reads. But after a day, I was hurting for protection on my phone. Always carefully putting it down somewhere where it wouldn't slide and scratch the backing. Or on something super soft. So, I just so happened to re-open the box and look inside and to my surprise, there was a case.
So, this phone is not only awesome in speed and performance (minus a bit of battery issues at the moment), but they also include a pre-attached screen protector AND a phone case! WOW...hats off to you OnePlus! More OEMs should be taking a page out of your book...ESPECIALLY for the prices we are asked to pay for these "premium" phones.
It's a high quality case and I like it a lot.
I knew about the free case inside the box but I bought other 2 cases from Oneplus, I like the one from the package more.
It doesn't suck, and I'm glad not to have to go naked with a glass phone while I wait for a real case from UAG. Nice gesture from OP, though these TPU cases cost about 50 cents to make.
Compared to other TPU cases ain't bad.
I jsut hate transparent TPU cases, with dust getting between the case and the phone
I really like it for indoor environment, pretty slim, grippy, light weight raised bezels, especially on corners, good quality material and air bags on corners
I don't like it. But I don't like gel cases full stop. They're too sticky for me. I've bought the silicone case though which is amazing.
Indeed, I was glad to see one included, though I did know about it beforehand as it was listed in the "What's inside the box" portion of the web site. I am putting on a rugged case in a couple of weeks but for now am happy my OP6 is protected to some degree.
Uh... They've been including a case since the 5T and have had the even pre applied even protector for quite a while now. And I would suggest getting the nylon bumper case it's much safer and doesn't make the device bulky. Didn't look through the whole box lmao.
Let me share my OP6 experience. I used the included case for a good 3 days and I think it's a decent option. Coming from OnePlus One, I decided to buy the sandstone back case for my OP6 and boy oh boy, it's premium! Although there is compromise with safety as it doesn't wrap up the phone completely but for someone like me who doesn't drop his phone much, this premium case if pure gold! Totally recommended ♥
Edit: Adds zero bulk to the phone, fits like a glove and even covers the camera bump with ease. As I've already mentioned a few times before, it feels and looks premium!
it's a good case, i'd just prefer a black rim because it looks a bit grayish from the front while the back looks grat transparent.
however, it's not only free, it's also decent ?
I have the silk white and when sunlight hits the case the whole surrounded areas of the phone glow a pinkish light. Super cool effect.
Is the camera bump really protected? I've been using the included case for a couple of days and I cannot tell for sure if it does. I really love slim cases as dropping the phone is quite improbable in my case, but getting the camera glass scratched for putting the phone on a table would be a bummer.

I was also wondering this, I tried it on a glass table and looked from underneath and I would say the camera glass is not protected by the stock case. I wonder if it would be the same case with the karbon bumper

My search for the same answer brought me here. It looks like it's flush with the case but it's so close it's hard to tell. The case is thin and grippy and the buttons are easier to press compared to the nylon case. If I knew the camera was protected I would use it as my main case.

Thanks for that info. I guess I won't use this case on a regular.
I prefer cases that are as slim as possible. The phone is big already, and adding even more bulk with a sturdy case makes it even more cumbersome. I'm considering other choices as I don't want the camera to get scratches, but I haven't seen transparent/flexible with enough thickness to guarantee camera protection. OP cases are also compatible with the tempered glass, so I guess I'll have to go with one of the official cases (have an unopened sandstone, but again, I don't know how it fares regarding the camera).

Yep that's indeed the case
Didn't realize it until I checked the box when I selling the 5T. Then I realized I had one with the 6 as well. Definitely great that both a pre-applied protector and a case are included in the box.

I usually protect the lens with Dbrands along with the body of the phone. You can also instead opt for lens glass protectors which can be purchased pretty cheaply.
Where can I buy this case?
Would love to know this as well. I've been thinking of buying the same thing with the same colour and I've never been able to find one
