n00b question - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Android newbie here, come from an iphone5 to one of these S6's. Bit of a stupid question really but should Samsung Smart Switch for the PC work with custom roms or will it only work with the original Samsung images?
Rom in question is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...xtrestolite-deodexed-mod-edition-1-3-t3119968
Is there something from the Aroma package i should be using to get smart switch working or is it a no go altogether?
Thanks

These ROM's are based on Stock Samsung Firmwares with some modifications in order to let the ROM be lighter and faster. If the ROM developer said that the Smart Switch is NOT supported, you can't do much about it. Samsung features are embedded into the Samsung Framework, which the ROM developer may have deleted or disabled. The best way is to ask the ROM developer, if there's some way to enable that feature.
PS: Please do not use misleading titles...
Title should be "How to enable Smart Switch in XXXX Rom?"

[Q] Carrier IQ/Key Tacer

Hi all,
Probably old news, but I just read an article on PC World about carrier IQ and is is akin to Key tracer on Samsung phones. I understand that you can remove this feature by rooting and installing custom ROMs. If I'm using a custom ROM like CM7 on a Nexus S 4g, or any user's custom ROMs, should I worry about these rootkits? That seems like a redundant question, but if the rootkit is baked into the source code for an OS and a developer didn't know it was there he might not think to look for it to remove it when developing a custom ROM. Thanks again!
There is no such thing on aosp.
this answered my question
take that htc!!!!
this is why i use asop and only asop

Hello there , I want to ask about custom Roms as cyanogen mod and PAC and all those teams out there.
First of all ,, the android that they make is similary to the stock one that I can get it from Google website to open it on jdk simulator. Then what is the deal in making custom roms??
And what about Samsung Galaxy Roms features.. Are they closed source? So there is no one can steel there features and use them in other Roms ???
I wish some one answer me because I am so confused about this .. Thanks

So to start from my understanding of the beginning, Samsung or HTC or LG and such will plan out a device, they put all the stuff they want on it ( as in the battery size, the specific GPU and CPU), and towards the end they slap on what version of android they want. this android is Stock like what you see with cyanogenmod or Aosp roms ( they are almost stock but with a few modifications like CPU governors and I/Os) from there they are able to put in all the features they want to feature on the device (so if you think about it, Samsung makes their own Custom rom for the phones but its very professional and are made for the General population where we are the few developers that aren't very professional.) like for Samsung, you will only see S Memo on Samsung phones (so yes Samsung Features are closed source if you develop a rom you are able to put features that come from the Stock rom you get when you buy the phone.), its possible to put s memo on other devices like one of HTC's, but is sorta illegal since Samsung owns s memo. for custom roms, we as developers are able to put stock android features into a rom because Google made android open source. (its not quite open source in some areas) now if you have a Samsung phone and want to make a rom based on Touchwiz (the normal Samsung Ui) or HTC phone and want to base a rom off Sense (Htc's Ui) we are allowed to do this only on these specific phones, otherwise making a Sense rom on a Samsung phone would be illegal and they would ask you to take down a download link. im sorry you had to hear me rant and i hope this made sense! if it sounds like i left anything out please ask.
OK I understood a part, but im still confused about Cyanogen mod part .. I mean what is that thing that they do and others cant do so every Dev make a ROM sayed it based on Cyanogen mod ??

[Completed] Rooted HUAWEI ASCEND Y220-U10 Custom ROM Compatible?

Hey guys I am fairly new to android and really new to this rooting and custom rom thing and I've been doing my research with what a rooted android w/ custom rom could look like and what it could further do.
I was hoping that my rooted phone is compatible with Custom Roms like Cyanogen Mod, AOKP, etc. Unfortunately my phone isn't listed in any listed devices in the well known Custom Rom Sites but I still proceeded with installing Cyanogen Mod since everyone seems to be using it. I don't even know if there are more of these eye candy useful mods that makes the ios look miserably locked up while hoping at least one of these custom rom is compatible with my crappy awesome phone. But upon installation process of Cyanogen Mod WITHOUT awareness that it really isn't compatible, it stated in that page that I could (STILL)use their Custom Rom at my own risk. Beyond that I stopped the installation process in fear of destroying my phone.
I was wondering whether you guys could enlighten me about the compatibility of Huawei Y220-U10 to Custom Roms. I've seen Huawei Y210's on youtube that's using a custom rom but unfortunately ALL of them who's demonstrating their phones are speaking in Spanish. I also installed ROM Installer but I can't seem to see 'FEATURED'? Maybe because it's the free version?
Now I am willing to take the risk, starting from the bottom meaning derooting my phone, wiping it clean, rerooting it and flashing that Custom Rom but I'm seeking advice from much more experienced users because if you guys tell me that it is a BIG NO NO I guess I'll just have to stick with the Go Launcher and wait until I get a much better, stronger, faster android smartphone which has a friendlier compatibility to everything android. And how come I can't access facebook nor yahoo from any web browser in my phone? is it a virus? Please clarify my theories.
Much Regards, Jom
P.S. Phone is running at 2.3.6 and rooted with Kingo Android ROOT
Hello @Jom Apa Welcome to Android / XDA!
"BIG NO NO!" You can't flash ROMs not made for your device because of the underlying hardware incompatibilities. You might completely kill your phone.
Give me a few minutes while I search for ROMs you can use
UPDATE: Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any custom firmware for your device nor Github entries for the chipset used. Seems you'll either have to stick with stock or create your own custom ROMs there are a lot of support here on XDA, Let the learning begin!
Cheers!

[Completed] [Q] I want to flash a custom rom but I'm worried about security/privacy issues.

Hi,
I'm kinda new to android, I've rooted my phone (Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket sgh-i727r / on jellybean 4.1.2) and I'm ready to flash a custom rom (SlimKat to be specific). I feel the stock rom can be "trusted", but can a custom rom be trusted to be secure and have privacy? I'm concerned that a custom rom dev may have added anything to the rom to be a security or privacy issue (where they can listen in on texts or phone calls, steal contacts or even steal passwords).
What are your thoughts?
p.s because I have limited knowledge of android I can't look through the code to inspect it.
I hope someone can please help.
Hi,
Thanks for using XDA Assist Well no Developer adds anything which may effect your security if that was the case then no one would have used Custom Rom's... Custom are too build from source and in all Rom's thread they link the source used but OEM never release it hence you wont be able to find but Custom Rom's have their source and all security previlages even Root has all security option to suit to users needs.. There is no such issues no one tracks nor steales anything developers have a lot of things in real life and in Android world they enhance Android Experience to full potential so that users can enjoy it
End of the Day its your choice
Good Luck!

Boot Sound on Android 4.4.2 AOSP

Hello guys,
I am posting here just for a simple topic which I couldn't get help from anywhere. It might feel stupid but I want to add boot sound on my AOSP based kitkat ROM but couldn't find any clue about it as none came stock.
So can anyone guide me to accomplish this task ?
I found a lot of places citing how to change boot sound but nowhere to add one. And other Custom Roms for my device like MIUI and Galaxy S5 ROMs had bootsound on them. So I think there is support and I just need to activate it somehow. So please friend grant my wish and teach me how to do this..
Thanks in advance.
-Shinichi
