Can anyone tell me if I buy this phone new from Verizon or Best Buy, will the phone automatically have the most current firmware update or will it come with one of the rootable G920VVRU1AOC3 or G920VVRU1AOE2? I am currently living in another country and cannot be there to check myself and the person who is getting the phone for me does not anything about firmware or how to check it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Spenser
Cannot guarantee anything but I bought mine from Verizon less than a week ago and it came with the most current software - if I'd remembered correctly I wouldn't have bought it but my memory was wrong.

Just tell them how to check. Tell them to ask the clerk to look in the settings, about phone. Baseband

It really depends how old the stock is, if the phones have been sitting since they were sent to Verizon a while ago, they'll have the older version. As such a more remote / lower sales numbers Verizon store would have a higher chance of having an OC3 or OE2. Phones made more recently will have the newest OTA on them out of the box as of the date Verizon received them. Verizon does not go through and update the version once they have them in hand however. (As far as I can tell)
Having just gone through this myself, if you have someone in a Verizon store for you, Verizon devices have the baseband listed by version number on the side of the box along with various other information (See Below) Ask the person getting the phone for you to ask the Verizon rep if they can look through the stock and find a box with OC3 or OE2 for you. The Verizon folks may very well have no idea what you're talking about / how you know what's written on the side of the box without looking, but they were generally willing to humor me.
All that being said, there were very few OE2s left in stock at Verizon when I looked about a month ago. (sample size 3 stores) I ended up ordering a 128 gb from Verizon (they ship those from the warehouse and don't have any on hand) I got lucky with an OE2. Possibly due to the device stock being older on average due to lower sales. Depending on how good a friend your stateside person is, I might call various Verizon stores and ask them if they have any of the OE2 in stock, and if you get lucky, ask them to set it aside for you.
Obviously that's all for Verizon, I have no experience with BestBuy regarding this phone.
Hope you find that helpful.

I just purchased mine from Best Buy today. I specifically went to Best Buy because the local Verizon store does a lot of business and I was sure their stock would be newer. The firmware version is on the box. There are several bar codes on the box. Check the line that starts with "SW-VER". The last 3 digits is your firmware. Mine is SW-VER: G920VVRU1AOE2.

Which tp2 version is the same as the tp2 on USCC? I want to get a case but since uscc just got it they don't have cases specifically for uscc. So I'm trying to figure out which one is the same on the other carriers.
It looks like this

Just curious how many other people on here have the tp2 from uscc?
is that us cellular??
USCC TP2
I was told that the Verizon and Sprint version cases will work.
Have not confirmed it yet.
I also have the USCC TP2, LOVE THIS PHONE!!! Currently trying to tweak it to my eye candy.
Have not flashed it yet, but working myself up to it. Will be the first time for me ever flashing. Trying to get as much info before I jump.
My brother has a USCC touch pro 2 and I have the Sprint touch pro 2. I can verify that both of these devices are of the identical size. His has a blue background on the battery cover where as mine has a gold background. He has tested by belt case without any problems. Good luck! They are great phones.

USCC Stock Rom??
Does anyone have the Stock ROM from USCC? I am currently running the NRGPhoton ROM but it would be nice to have the stock ROM if I ever have to take it in to the store for something. I know I should have backed up mine but I literally took it out of the box turned it on, unlocked it and Flashed it. I was way too excited. Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
i just got my uscc tp2 after switching from a tp, i notice that they each have something better than the other tp1 much better multitasker memory always registered at only 35% at startup tp2 is at like 55% at startup but still i love it using my old ppc 6800 leather case for my tp2 and it fits like a dream so if have one of those cases try it, it works great, however i notice that the clock for some reason keeps switching itself back to usa eastern time from my central us setting havent figured that out yet. and also opera 9.7b seems to make my phone freeze up and uses all my free ram so i quit using it but iris browser and opera10 work great with it. Opera10 is one of my favs.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I have been looking everywhere for the stock ROM for the USCC TP2. The link at this PPCG page is dead, if you connect to their FTP directly and browse the USC file they have is only 67MB and will not extract.
I have dumped the partitions of my stock ROM, if someone can help me with making it into a flashable image I would be more than happy to share.
Just a little story to share:
My Captivate finally reached the repair facility in Texas on Wednesday, this week. Apparently, the back side speaker busted as a result of nothing (???). No sound would come out of it. I didn't drop it, it just stopped working. Anyway,
Free 2-day shipping was provided and didn't have to pay a cent. So far so good. I expect to get my phone back next week.
Anybody else have this problems?
If you are wondering why I sent it to Samsung and not ATT, it's because I didn't want to deal with the insurance company. They wouldn't be happy once they read the IMEI number and check their database That's all Im gonna say.
Yeah, apparently this is a very common issue. My wife's phone was doing that, and now mine is too... we are hesitating on sending them back because neither of us really want to be without our phones for a week...

How do you do that? Call At&T Mobility? How much of a stink did you have to make?
I know att would ve sent me a replacement very fast, but like I said: I wanted to avoided trouble. And that meant I had to go one week without a phone.
This is what happened: Samsung let meet print a label online. I shipped my phone free in 2 day shipping and then it came to them. Their engineers worked on my phone for two days.then it was shipped back on a weekend. Basically it took a week, but I lived.
The phone was cleaned, the speakers were replaced and they look brand new. My usb port was cleaned since it was filled with dust.
Plus, I was given neat box and a 20 off coupon. Overall, it was amazing.
Samsung rocks!
(now I only need 2.2....)

I have a Verizon Pixel XL that I was able to unlock with DePixel8 back in the day but it's really become just more of a hassle having it unlocked and constantly dealing with OTA updates and worrying about flashing TWRP or just the hassle of it all in general.. I'd rather just let my phone do it's own thing without having to mess with it and especially since I'll eventually get a yearly upgrade I wanna be able to trade it in and get a newer phone someday.
Can anyone give me step by step on what to do so I can get it back to stock and locked boot loader again.
I'm currently on Android Oreo 8.0.0... idk if this changes anything? I know TWRP isn't working 100% or so it seemed when I looked at the Oreo thread earlier.
Can I just download the factory stock image and run the flash-all.bat? or do I need to fastboot boot twrp.img and wipe the system n everything 1st? also can someone tell me which image is the original stock image??
I see 7.1.0 (NDE63V, Nov 2016)
but I also see 7.1.0 (Verizon, NDE63X, Nov 2016)
I'm guessing I use the Verizon one? but I remember somewhere someone saying to use the one with the V at the end so how do I know which one to use for stock image?
There are probably some folks around here that would feel inclined to ship you a stock Verizon Pixel XL plus a couple bucks if they had the opportunity they missed to depixel8. If it were just the regular Pixel, I'd be all over it. Stock pixel is fantastic and by far my favorite phone I've ever owned, but there is an itch I can't scratch with it being locked.

Hey all, I am looking for some advice. I just bought this phone a couple days ago it's refurbished, when I boot my phone up, it gives me the "custom unlocked" indicator that tells me the phone is rooted, but I have no super su or any of the other tools needed to utilize root. It seems like they rooted it and upgraded it to nougat before giving it to me. While I enjoy nougat, there are many apps that won't work because it is rooted, and without supersu and root capabilitities, I cant hide the root from them, or do lots of other things I would like to do.
What is the procedure for flashing super su onto a phone that is already "unlocked"?
Experienced with rooting phones but having it halfway through the process like this has made me really nervous to try anything without some instructions.
Thanks in advance for any help you provide!

Are you sure you have Verizon Note 5 (e.g. N920V)? As far as anyone knows the Verizon model is unrootable and with a locked bootloader, so if you have a rooted Verizon Note 5 (which I highly doubt), some people might be interested in taking a look at it.

I am 100% positive, it has the verizon logo on the back and it is the note 5. Keep in mind I dont have any root capabilities, but apps such as mario run, netflix,, and samsung fitness, either don't want to download through the normal channels, or won't run once i download them from places like aptoide. It sucks because i've paid for many of these apps and i cant use them because its saying im rooted. For instance samsung fitness gives me a message saying due to a new security policy they dont allow the app to run on rooted phones.
Honestly though I would love to downgrade to marshmallow, many apps have serious glitches with this nougat update on my phone. It's incredibly slick looking but apps like gta san andreas have major graphical glitches, and audio in apps like fl studio mobile can be really glitchy and testy at times.
I can upload some photos of my phone and the screens im talking about if youd like.

Will do when i get out of work
I know this thread is old but I'm new, to all of this so I'm sorry if I'm out of place.
Ok, so this guy has root on a retail Verizon note 5. Why isn't anyone else got root and sharing? I myself am wondering if the sprint note 5 will work on LTE Verizon. I would just buy a note 5 Verizon edition, this rooted Verizon note 5 has me scratching my head. So what's up with root has someone discovered root and to selfish to share it with others or what?
I'm curious as to what came of this.
Also wondering if maybe the internals got swapped?
Can I get pick of Verizon boot screen?
Was pleasantly surprised to see an update this morning and that it was for 8.0. been waiting a while for this.

The Oreo update for the H918 (T-Mobile) came out a few weeks ago.
Yeah, forgive me, I've been keeping my eyes out for updates on the T-MOBILE update and I knew it was coming but hadn't seen anything. I haven't really been watching the forums where I would have seen the posts about it.

AT&T only sends updates over the air, and only if you are a current customer on their network (yea, super d**ks).
If you want to update your phone, you will have to root it. You don't have to STAY rooted, you can flash a stock Oreo zip.
Of course, this wipes your phone as well...

That's a great, detailed answer, thanks.
I'm interested in doing that, a few apps, specifically Spotify has been working poorly since Oreo rolled out for the v20, and I'm not sure if it's related.
I'm not 100% up to speed with this higher level android tomfoolery, I've flashed a new kernel to a Nexus7 for a car install, but that's it. Could I ask an extra favor, for you to link me to a good how-to on getting my h910 running Oreo? Some of the other writeups seem to be different variations. I must use the att software, regardless of my current carrier, right?
Rooting is no longer a point and click affair.

Thanks, I had read that post, and before talking to you, I wasn't 100% sure that it applied to my phone being on T Mobile now.
After giving it a closer read, that sounds like the kind of thing I'd try if I didn't depend on my phone as heavily as I do, or if I had a spare handy. just a tad too much ambiguity and the stakes are too high for my current life situation today.
Thanks again though, you thoroughly and clearly answered my question.
