How to make a flasheable backup - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using my Moto G3 without problems, It's bootloader unlocked, rooted and with custom recovery; I have been read about hardbricks after updates and bootloops after OTA updates... so I have a question:
Is it possible to make a flasheable backup of my entire system so I can use it to rescue after any problem?
All that can help would be well received

If your system is working, just make a Backup via Twrp and place it on your pc or a sd card
so you can acces it even when you did a factory reset
(Edit: i know what you mean here is a link to do that, didn't test it but i think it will work)
(i recommend just flashing to factory firmware files)

Thanks HelpMeruth .
I already have the TWRP backup, but I'm looking for a way to "fully backup" my phone and that can be flasheable via fastboot.exe in case of emergency ...
I'll read the link you share me :good:

If its any help, Titanium Backup will make a flashable zip of all your apps and data that can be flashed with TWRP.

[Q] Restoring CWM backup folders using fastboot.

Is it possible and if yes then how would I restore (using fastboot) a CWM backup folder containing:
boot.img
cache.ext4.tar
cache.ext4.tar.a
data.ext4.tar
data.ext4.tar.a
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
recovery.log
system.ext4.tar
system.ext4.tar.a
I want to use fastboot and not just restore from recovery because it would be very useful to know this.
Thanks
Fastboot no way.
You can adb push the backup to your sdcard and restore it via recovery.
I wouldn't expect extracting the backup and adb pushing the contents to system or data would be a good idea
You could restore an adb backup though but with all this, I'd have to ask "why?"

I wanted to see if this was possible so that after trying android L i could easily restore everything. I am assuming that installing android l using fastboot will revert my CWM recovery back to stock so then I wouldn't be able to restore my old setup. That's my reasoning.
I haven't looked at the L download but I doubt very much a developer preview of Android would contain a recovery.img
In any case you'd still be without recovery

Yes, flashing all the L img files will replace the custom recovery with the stock one. If you want to restore, all you gotta do is flash back cwm and then restore.

odd. Why do they provide a stock recovery?
Anyway yeaf flash recovery, adb push your /sdcard contents back and restore. Since you have to wipe /sdcard, you'll already be needing to push back

Yes, it's strange as it's a "developer's preview". Since it can be accessed by the general public as well, they thought of including the recovery as well. All the previous factory images had bootloaders, recoveries even though they weren't updated so they might have stuck on this practice in this release as well :silly:

They provide it most likely because it's a part of AOSP. And they know not only devs will flash this. No OTA updates too..

Stupid question: Can using a custom rom randomly brick my device?

Is it possible my phone to hard brick or soft brick itself while i use it with a custom rom? I got this phone 3 weeks ago and if i break it, no smartphone for me for years (very tight budget).

Most cases a custom recovery for your phone will not do any harm
But before flashing read posts carefully because I soft bricked my phone because of a buggy twrp build

Just to be clear, mines is a XT1039 with a CID of 7. My build number is also ""KXB21.14-L1.56" which is exactly matches with Germany where as every other one with CID7 ends with "-1", can I also use the other regions or do I need to use Germany. What are also the differences between the regions?

The basic thing is you can flash different region firmwares for the same specific device like xt0139 in you case as I was able to flash both Asian and Brazilian firmware in my xt1033
The difference in the firmwares in region specific apps and different radios

Thanks for the help, one last thing though. What if I made a recovery via CWM to my internal SD, but moved it to my external SD, would the recovery still work, and are there any risks of flashing a recovery that is incomplete as whenever I use Recovery Manager to backup to my external SD, it always hangs at "Generating md5 sum" and I'm forced to manually restart.

Recovery means the software that can perform tasks like flashing wiping or backing up
And its always called backups and not recovery be it cwm or twrp

Yes you can made backup in internal memory and move it to external memory or even to other storage devices or to your computer. If you want to restore the backup again, put the backup in concerned folder in your mobile and restore it from recovery :good:

So is there any threat to restoring a backup that may be corrupted or incomplete since I manually restarted when it hung up at "Generating md5 sum..."?
Also, will using these files completely restore my phone back to when I first got it? For example, if a crucial system file was corrupted, would using these files fix it, or if my phone has been soft bricked, would it fix it?

1. If the backup you made previously was corrupted or incomplete, then the recovery wont start the process of restoring.
2. Yes. It will fix the soft-bricks and the phone will be restored to its "Out of box" state except your bootloader will still be in unlocked state since there is no syntax to lock your bootloader in the given link.

Will do, I'm new to phones in general, do you have any recommendations on popular ROMs for my Moto G 4G/LTE XT1039 KitKat 4.4.4?
Official CM 11 are stable in my opinion. Resurrection Remix ROMs also doig great job. BTW im CM fanboy. So better test yourself to choose wisely.

[Resolved] Installed TWRP on phone with a locked bootloader - now stuck in boot loop

I am new to rooting, and decided to root my Galaxy Note II SGH-i317m a few days ago. I used a method with no adb access...i think. Here's the reference thread, just in case I'm wrong: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980644
I got a bit overenthusiastic, and got TWRP while forgetting to unlock my bootloader first. Now, my phone will only boot into TWRP. All 4 reboot options go back to TWRP. What is the best way to get my phone back to working? I understand that I may have to lose my data. It doesn't matter: my top priority is getting my phone to work again.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place. I'm new here.
if you can boot into recovery than try to wipe cache and dalwik cache than try to too boot again it may work

Thanks for the quick reply. I just tried that, and no change. Just to clarify, the only thing I can boot into at the moment is recovery mode.
I think what I need to do is flash the stock recovery back onto my phone. Is this a possible solution? If so, how should I go about doing it? I currently cannot access download mode.
i think u should install your current rom again if u insall stock recovery you may not able to do this with stock recovery even cant get twrp back
so..do a nandroid backup and install a rom which u like stock1 or custom1

Well, the thing is, my problem isn't with the ROM at all. It's that TWRP does not work with a locked bootloader. So the way I see it, either I need to replace TWRP with something that works with a locked bootloader, or unlock the bootloader. In your opinion, how would replacing the ROM help with my problem?

It's done. It's worth noting that my root method, linked in the OP, doesn't give adb access. I'm not sure if this changes anything.
Also, I discovered that by removing and replacing the battery, my phone can power off. From here I can access download mode. Something that might be useful, especially if the solution involves odin.

tried system restore with twrp?
try it first and if ur not sure that it will work just make backup of boot , efs , system and data(if necessary) via twrp to sd card copy the backup to pc via card reader or something and extract the system backup there should be a file named build.prop in system folder edit it and do it like this :
under #additional build properties
ro.adb.secure=0
ro.secure=0
ro.allow.mock.location=1
ro.debuggable=1
persist.sys.root_access=1
find the above lines and edit the parameters as i have shown to you use notepad++ to edit the file save it the last line will give ya root access by default and second last will make it debuggable just save it repack and flash with twrp cheers
hit thanks
Alright. Since I can't find another thread like this one, I will assume that I am one of the first to have this problem. Here is what I did.
I used samsung-firmware.org to find the latest firmware for my phone, which includes both ROM and recovery. Other brands probably also have a website like this.
I used Odin to flash the firmware onto my phone - this wiped my data, but removed TWRP, which is an acceptable solution to me. I might also have wiped my data while playing around with TWRP trying to fix my phone - I'm not sure.
Thanks to both EMONESSboy and [email protected] for their help. I ended up going with something similar to EMONESSboy's solution, since the commands seemed a little risky. Thanks anyways, your help is much appreciated!

If your situation is the same as mine was, I would recommend the same solution. Just to clarify - you rooted your phone? And then you installed a custom recovery, which is now the only thing you can access?
If so, you should install your stock ROM the same way you installed the rooted ROM. I'm not sure how you would go about doing that, or even if you can access that mode, since your model is not very common.

Actually, what happend was that i tried to root my phone through Kingaroot. It shows some error at 90%. After few seconds my phone gets rebooted and snce then, it is showing Mfr LOGO only.
I have tried Factory reset, wipe cache partition etc.
I had lollipop earlier on my phone.

bricked, need help

it's a pretty long story but currently my system partition is wiped after it soft bricked, i also couldn't reflash stock roms with twrp so i tried to extract the recovery.img from the stock rom and flashing it over twrp to get the original recovery mode back to flash the update but for some reason it didn't work.
so now i can only boot into EMUI which keeps telling 'getting package info failed' meaning i can't update through it. i'm also able to reach the 'fastboot&rescue mode' screen but i know nothing about adb and even tho i watched 2-3 tutorial videos i couldn't really get it to work. all videos wanted me to boot up the phone and enable usb debugging which i can't. my phone was rooted before and i'm positive i've enabled it in the past but i'm not sure if it's still enabled or not, either way i'm not able to get it working.
is this salvageable?
i'd really appreciate some help if possible, thnx
nope. but even when i had twrp it wouldnt let me flash update.zip's
i still have fastboot screen so my guess is that i have to run it through adb, which i don't know how to do

but how do i flash marshmallow with twrp? and what marshmallow file are you talking about, the one i mentioned above?
because i tried flashing these update.zip's with twrp before but it wouldn't let me.
i'm currently packaging the update.app files into a zip and moving it to the sdcard, that's the only way i can think of to flash these update files with twrp.

first time booting up i get the contact names on call logs for a few seconds and then they disappear because the contacts are gone. if i restore my data partition in twrp and boot up the system again i get the exact same thing. i'm guessing the contacts are saved at least temporarily somewhere on the data partition, is it possible to extract them somehow? i don't care if i have to write them down one by one from a .log, i got some important numbers that are worth the hassle for me

If you synced the contacts already then you can from google contacts.
I know this is completely backwards, but i found a twrp backup i did on my broken systems partition before i tried anything else. Maybe if i can undo what soft-bricked my phone i can get them back.
I installed/flashed a magisk module for xposed and after that i wasnt able to boot the system any longer. Is it possible to somehow uninstall this module and get the phone to boot again? Or is the only solution to flash a new stock rom?

the backup of the boot partition made no difference. even after flashing the new rom and the boot after nothing changed.
but i just solved it, i found a magisk uninstaller and after flashing that the phone booted up with all contacts, photos, apps+data intact.
when i first posted here i had wiped the systems partition and didn't know i still had a backup hidden away in a folder, so i'm extremely grateful for all your help and patience.
i still think i'm gonna update to nougat and i'm using hisuite that came with the phone, do you recommend any other backup application? do you know if app backups work if i update to nougat from marshmallow?

Bro can you make a guide how to backup and restore in Huawei.

How can I dirty flash stock emui 5 via twrp? Fails everytime.

Guys. I have tried and failed. Which exact zip do I need? Because the fullOtamf with pv fails. Which twrp do i need exactly? Because the openkirin one says error.
I flashed official arise viper system and it flashed but didn't install anything, further more my camera isn't working at all maybe because of selinux permissive I think, but I changed that to endorcing also, no luck, so I just need to dirty flash stock rom to fix it.
I'm a newbie to Huawei phones so preferably links of what twrp n file version u guys use would be highly appreciated.
It's hard to believe none of the people who viewed the post have ever flashed a stock rom via twrp. No one?
I really need some help here guys. Any advice is appreciated.
If you really need to flash it via twrp you need to download huawei update extractor and use it to create a flashable zip but that takes really long and one small mistake will ruin the firmware or your phone so i would recommend you to flash the stock recovery, update and then root, put twrp back etc.

Ok so somehow pushing volume up at boot gets me into "Huawei E-recovrry" and it says 3 things only 1) download latest software and recovery, 2) restart 3) shutdown. If I click first option it says Note: user data will be wiped after recovery install :/
Is this the one ur talking about? Can I do it without data wipe in anyway?

You could try pressing the "download latest software and recovery" button but i dont think it will work. I would recommend you to flash the stock recovery via adb and/or fastboot (create backups of course) and then update via team mt's firmware finder. After its done, unlock the phone again and root it. I dont know if it will wipe data because you have twrp on your phone. (I dont think it will wipe data but i still recommend you to make backups) NEVER EXTRACT THE UPDATE.APP AND TRY TO INSTALL THE IMAGES. I DID IT AND I GOT IN ERROR MODE.

Damn! I can't believe it's such a complicated process! I miss my Nexus now lol, it was such a breeze to flash stuff on it..
So basically there's no "dirty flashing" the stock rom... I have to install the whole firmware like it's new and then do the entire process of unlocking bootloader(which wipes everything), rooting, getting twrp, n start as new since a backup flash via twrp of my current system after that would again reinstall the incompatible viper mod that has defected my camera right now... Sigh.
I wish Huawei made it easier for people to do these things for people who want to.
Thanks for all the help! :good: I really wish there was a better way than having to start as new.

Dload doesn't clear data at all. But those files should be flashed via dload but issue is when you unlock bootloader, it will reset again.
You can flash certain files via twrp but that is data zip and not main zip file. Let me know the version you want and will try my best to help buddy.
Please give Current build and model number and new build number you are trying.
You can just restore data and it will not restore your viper mod as that is going to system partition as you flashed zip. So restoring only data will not bring back the viper mod.

Data zip is huawei apps etc? Or u mean my own backup data?
But Thanks alottt bro!
Model BLN-L21
Build C185-B361
I was just trying to flash same system again so that viper will be erased
I didnt try any new build yet because I'm really new to all these softwares like FWfinder and the other ones, I downloaded them but couldn't understand much sadly.
so I just did ur dload method for b361 since that is the only one I found with fullota-mf-pv version.
Is there any new build for dload available? Because I don't know how to update :/ I'm sorry for all the noob requests, I used to be such a pro at nexus lol

Let me check this mate for you. Will take sometime as will be occupied most of the time today so may or may not able to provide. You can install main zip that will remove viper but it will relock bootloader so unlocking it will erase data. Best way i think of is-
Do full twrp backup
Copy the twrp to sd card or pc
Use dload
Unlock bootloader
Flash twrp
Root it
Restore backup only for data and it will not install viper.
Or
Do titanium backup of all the user app and data.
Copy to pc or sd card.
Use dload
Unlock bootloader, twrp and root.
Boot and restore titanium backup
I know these are tedious task but want to have your data intact while without messing up with the phone.
Let me know in case you need files to flash or can search..good luck.
