Updating to 5.1.1 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Just got an S6 hoping it wouldn't already be on OF1... But it was, so since there is no root anyway should I just go ahead and take the update and wait for future exploit or Android M? Our should I stay put and refuse the update for now?
Sorry if this has already been answered, couldn't find it.

You're basically better off upgrading to 5.1.1 because there is no news of any root for OF1 and if there were any root methods released, it would be for 5.1.1 at this point.
Taking the 5.1.1 update would be better for you than staying on 5.0.2 OF1 because they kinda fixed a few things, although it's not as good as it should be.

[Q] Best way to update? (still on 8.6.5.6 and rooted)

I would like to update to the latest firmware. I have not updated since I rooted a while back. I am still on firmware 8.6.5.6 and would like to update to the latest.
What is the best way to proceed?
Obviously, I don't want to break anything in the process of updating. I would like to keep my root or reroot at the very least. Although the only real reason I rooted in the first place was to boost my clock speeds. So I am even willing to unroot if that's the best/easiest way.
Thanks!

Its a while away but just wounding.

When the lolipop update is out for this phone will i have to unroot to update? Or update loose root and then just re-root?
no-one knows if/when it will be released.
you'll probably be able to update without removing but you might need to wait for a new root kit unless the existing ones work for lollipop.

I need a rooted rom for Galaxy SM-G920V anything later than OG7

So basically I never wanted to update my phone but I accidentally pressed Install Now when I was trying to open the messaging app. Now I can't root it anymore or downgrade it. Worst mistake ever for my phone :crying:
So my phone found a new update, but I don't want to update it because I want to look for a updated ROOTED rom that is later than OG7. If anyone has a odin flashable / zip flashable, PLEASE message me. I have a friend that works with android roms, he said that its something to do with the bootloader and it has to be rewritten by hand to make it rootable because of verizons bootloader, and to unlock the bootloader. PingPongRoot doesn't work anymore after the 5.1.1 update. I really hate this update. it slowed my phone down a lot. **** you verizon :crying::crying::crying:
Anyways I need a rooted rom to flash on my phone to make my phone think its signed by Samsung or Verizon and it's a new update. Please help me root my phone. I really got nothing to root it now ;-;

Sorry, it doesn't exist for the Verizon Galaxy S6. The last rooted ROM was OE2.

Have you tried updating to Marshmallow? I'm on CleanROM 1.5 android 5.0.2 OE2, and have been curious of the new android version, but at the same time do not want to lose root. Let me know if Marshmallow is worth losing root. Only advantage I see to root at this point is not having all that damn bloatware I really hate and cannot remove without root. Thanks.

I rather not update it unless
1: A root method is available
2: A rooted rom for Marshmallow is available
Just saying. upgrading to 5.1.1 unintentially (mainly because i was directly going to the messaging app but accidentally pressed install now) made me loose my root access. That's why I'm seeing if there is a rooted rom for that rom or a root method for that room.

From what I understand, it seems verizon is never going to allow it. Just look at Note 4 from verizon, it came out in 2014 and still no sign there will ever be root available for that one either. I'm even considering moving to tmo since there is root on their devices. Good luck.

maybe it might work in the future exploits

How Can I Downgrade Verizon Galalxy S6 from 6.0.1 to 5.0.2?

Hello, due to me having to replace a broken S6 that was running 5.0.2, my new phone was running 5.1.1 by default. When Android M came out, I decided to go ahead and upgrade, hoping for an exploit. However, this hasn't seemed to happen yet. So my question is, since 5.0.2 is the only OS version I know of that can be rooted for my device, is there a way I can downgrade from M to that version? Or is there any other way I can have a rooted phone? I am by no means an expert with this stuff, but any help would be IMMENSELY appreciated.
Unfortunately, no and no. The consensus seems to be that a new root method is unlikely to be found.

Attempting to downgrade at this point will render the phone useless until you flash the version you are on or higher through Odin.

Rooting a Xperia 6616

There aren't many new topics on this model so here we go,
My z3 stock came with 5.0.1 and as far as i know never (the 6616) had the 4.4 as an option. SO downgrading didn't work, so i'm stuck trying to root this with 5.0.1 and after two days of browsing this site there really doesn't seem to be a way to do so. Eventually i said $%#* it and rooted it using kingroot but after rooting it, root checker passed the root but would not give proper access when installing root apps such as busybox and the ta backup tool.
So i didn't realize that the keys ive been trying to save are useless anyways if i update android and the main reason for me going through this is i really don't like 5.0.1. Only thing i haven't really looked into doing is seeing if kingroot will let me unlock the bootloader then trying to flash an update. SO has anyone successfully updated a 6616 z3 (to 6) who didn't start off with 4.4?
