SHIELD Tablet compatible ethernet adapters with Y OTG (full charge?) - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As title I would like to know if:
- is it phisically possibile to FULL CHARGE SHIELD Tablet while using gigabit ethernet and if yes with WHICH Y OTG cable + ethernet adapter do you manage to achieve it?
- can you confirm the list I am attaching? In particular I would like to know if the FIRST ONE (Inteck, the only gigabit + USB 3.0 even if SHIELD Tablet goes on 2.0) really works (chipset Asic AX88179 should not be supported but it seems it works anyway).
Shouldn't just AX88178 (USB 2.0 + ethernet gigabit) be fully working?
Really difficult to find a good working 'bundle'. That's the reason of this thread.
Thanks. Best regards.

hdmi tv-out cable

wondering if anyone has used a miniusb to hdmi cable for their touchpad to play on their tv.
I'm asking because I did this on my toshiba thrive and I'm hooked now :S and want to do same with touchpad if possible
I can find some cable/adapter fairly cheap online so if it works, i'd get one
something like this http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Female-Mini-Male-Adapter/dp/B000TYL27M since I already have a hdmi cable so no need to buy another if an adapter would work
edit: i'm also wondering because a quick search said it wasn't possible but i also see this page that lists product as working with touchpad :S http://www.uzid.com/wholesale-hp-touchpad-hdmi-micro-to-hdmi-lcd-3ft-adapter-cable-cord-link-1.html
What you are looking for is USB MHL since the Touchpad has no HDMI port only micro USB, but the Touchpad does not support this feature.
hm ok thanks , maybe i'll look into those hmdi android dongles i see in marketplace then.

The USB port on the HP Touchpad is barely USB OTG host compliant to connect USB devices, like keyboard, mouse, flash memory, etc. It is not USB HML capable, meaning there is no circuitry available to route video out the DATA+ / DATA- wires of the USB port.
There is no USB Dongle, or cable, that can do what you want. HP Touchpad does not support USB to HDMI.

I think he means to get an android tv dongle. They are little android devices with HDMI out and usb input, usually one of those 1Ghz A10 processors and 1Gb RAM. Neat little things, but my phone has MHL.
the mk802 is what you're talking about. there are a bunch of new versions comming out all the time. http://rikomagic.co.uk/forum, and http://miniand.com/forum are good places to get support and talk about these new devices.
Too bad we can't have HDMI out, Touchpad would do well as replacement for my media player

[Q] Usb hub + charging + hdmi possible?

Hi I can't find a definitive answer but I think it is no. Anyway does anyone know if it possible to do the following?
Get TV out (HDMI) + usb host working at same time
Get usb host (hub or not) + charging the tablet
Get hdmi out + usb host + charging.
I think our tab works with the media dock for the 7" tab but can usb host be added as well? The dock for the note 2 looks amazing and should really be available for all devices like this.
Cheers

I don't know the technical terms behind this but here's the gist of why this won't work: When you are using the HDMI out or the USB OTG it puts the multi purpose connector into a proprietary mode which will I/O a protocol that works with that particular type of device. So when it is in HDMI mode it is using certain data pins to connect with the HDMI pins, and when it is in USB OTG mode it is using some of the same pins to connect to USB data pins.
It can only be in one mode or the other at once, so if you hooked up a hub to a usb OTG connector, or used a USB OTG hub, the jack on the note is going to be in USB OTG mode/protocol, and it will not recognize an HDMI adapter also connected to the hub as an HDMI device that it supports. Only storage devices, HID input devices, and samsung printers are supported on the USB OTG.
Since this is a hardware restriction, I'm 99% sure it cannot be programmed around. I think the same applies to why you cannot charge while using the USB OTG. As far as I know all the HDMI adapters require a usb power source and will somewhat charge the tablet.

Thanks for the info just what I was after, it all sounds like a bummer but not too bad. Sounds like I will need root to connect a ps3 controller then.

No need to root for ps3 controller use. My sixaxis works fine using the standard usb adapter. You'll only need to root if you want bluetooth connectivity.

Possible to hook multiple devices up via micro usb port?

Hello all. Planning to get a MHL 2.0 cable for my note 3 but I also want to hook up a keyboard and mouse. I have a logitech k/b that uses wireless signal via a USB dongle. I figured the OTG cable would suffice but naturally once the MHL cable is in, there is no way to also use the OTG cable. Curious if there is some sort of hub that allows at least 1x micro usb and 1x full size usb, or some sort of splitter? I realize a bluetooth keyboard and mouse is probably another solution but would prefer to avoid if I could.
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm a new surface User and I'm looking for a dockingstation. I need an Ethernet Port, dvi Port and some USB Ports.
Does anybody have a dockingstation like this with his Surface RT?
Best regards

I don't believe that such a thing exists. There are various items available that can expand your RT's capabilities. For instance, this http://www.amazon.com/Bidul-card-re...d=1396802723&sr=8-5&keywords=surface+rt+ports will add extra USB and SD ports.
You can get MicroHDMI to DVi with this: http://www.amazon.com/Accell-J132B-002B-Type-D-Female-Adapter/dp/B005PHHO5M
I'm not sure about ethernet. I do believe that there is a USB Ethernet adapter that will work, but it needs to use a specific chipset and there is a non-obvious process to get it to work. Searching there forums for wired ethernet should locate the article for you.
Problem on the RT is that the only I/O are an i2c interface (which might aswell be excluded seeming as there is no plug and play way to interface with that), USB2.0 port and the microHDMI. The best you can hope for is to use an HDMI to DVI cable, USB hub and a USB ethernet adaptor.

Since the Surface 2 has USB3, wouldn't a dock or usb hub be more viable?
Things to replace Dockingstation
Hello!
Here is a list of goodies I used to connect my Surface RT 8.1 Update 1 in my Office:
D-Link USB Hub DUB-H7
http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DUB-H7-7xUSB-A-1xUSB-B-Stromversorgung/dp/B0000B0DL7
Accell DVI Adapter to Mini HDMI
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Accell-J132B-002B-DVI-Adapter-Micro-HDMI-Stecker-DVI-D-Buchse/dp/B005PHHO5M
EDIT: Not available at the moment; ordered this one to test it too: http://www.amazon.de/BIGtec-mini-HDMI-Kabel-vergoldet/dp/B00ATE93J6
TrendNET USB to Ethernet Adapter
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TRENDNET-USB-TO-100MBPS-ADAPTER/dp/B00007IFED
(see this Post to get the Adapter working with Win 8.1 RT Update 1 >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51919569&postcount=41 )
Mouse and Keyboard are just the usual DELL stuff. Tried different USB Sticks and external HDD; all are working.
Can you link to the DVI adapter again? That one goes to the USB hub too. Cheers.

USB ethernet adapters that work with the Pixel 3a

Hello,
does anybody know a working USB ethernet adapter for the Pixel 3a?
I have tried one with ASIX AX88772A (USB 2.0) and another one with AX88179 (USB 3.0) chipset and both are not recognized correctly.
The Pixel does recognize some USB device and the ethernet adapter is powered up, but it is not possible to switch to data transfer.
I am using this and it works.

I can absolutely rule out
Alfa awus 0036nh - ralink 3070
Alfa awus 0036h - realtek 8187
Micro USb - realtek 8188e
Micro USB - ralink 5370
small form + 3db antenna ralink 5370
Although I've had great luck with gos modules I can confirm the Ublox7 / Vk-172 works well with the 3a. My GlobalSat BU-353-S4 hasn't cooperated yet. Sorry to say that gps wardriving is much more difficult but just as rewarding, if you do find a good wifi unit that works with the pixel do let us know.

I don't have a 3a, but this one works fine with my Pixel 3.

It works on my Pixel 3A as well. Of course, I'm using a USB 3 to USB-C adapter. The performance is quite poor. I'm getting about 75 MBPS on a 300 MBPS internet connection. I do much better on Wi-Fi. I tried the same on a Chromebook, and the NIC worked much better on USB 3, then via the USB-C adapter. I'm wondering if it's a problem with the USB 3 to USB-C adapter, or is the nature of the beast when doing that conversion?
Have you seen the same? Which conversion adapter are you using?
Thank you
I get 89 Mbps, which is the limit of my internet connection. I'm using this adapter:

Thank you

So, using the combination of that network adapter and that USB adapter, I'm getting a max of 102 MPS on my Pixel 3a. Using the same combination on a Chromebook, I'm getting 297 MBPS. Using Wi-Fi, on the Pixel, I get close to what I'm getting wifi / wired on the Chromebook.
I wonder if there is some setting on the Pixel, or a hardware limitation.
Has anyone found a way to cast or screen mirror when using USB Ethernet ?
Obviously my tv, Chromecast and fire TV are all connected to the same Ethernet network.
But every screen mirror / cast app I've tried won't work unless WiFi is connected on the phone.
The PinePhone dock worked on my pixel 3a for ethernet tethering. Sept. 22 OTA rooted [Magisk] Tethering Enabler verizon grandfathered UDP. Plugged into a switch with wifi mesh and whole home wifi works. I need a longer LAN cable to put my phone in a spot with better signal. I have not tried HDMI but I can if someone needs that.
