Mini review of Sony DR-BT100CX stereo bluetooth headphones

after buying some ceap nuvelli bluetooth headphones only to find out not only did it not work at all (would not power on at all) but they also barely even fit on my head and were not comfortable i returned them and bought the Sony DR-BT100CX's not only because of their price but because i have always loved the silicone padded ear bud style headphones for listening to music, they are of course not good if you need to hear outside sounds because they really do act as ear plugs but this should be known already if your looking into this type of BT headset.

so anyways. i will give these a 4.5 out of 5 rating with possibility for a 5 out of 5
as a nexus one user running CM 6.1 RC1 they work 100% flawlessly with my phone. even the play/pause and track forward/back buttons are fully functional and sound quality is just as good as a decent set of the same style wired ear buds. one of my favorite things about this style of headphone is the small size and incredible bass response and these do not disappoint in this area either.
i'm giving them a 4.5 pending a 5.0 rating based on the short battery life i experienced. this was no doubt due to the fact i did not have enough time to fully charge them up today before i left but at out of the box + 1 hr roughly of charge time the lasted about 2-1/2 hours of constant music use before they died. sony claims 8 hours of use time, not sure if thats realistic they read half battery when i took em off the charger today but that could be inaccurate so who knows. ill post back with my results on further use later.
as for range of use. i was able to get as far as 12' from my nexus and still had perfect sound but at that distance putting my hand over the "pod" unit (the main module with controls) would cause a drop out but they reconnected extremely quickly. with normal use i do not see range being an issue with these they have good range overall.

Battery life's fine, I haven't charged mine for ages and it still goes strong.
I also used to have a cheap BT headset but it sucked so much, ended up grabbing a pair of these instead. The fact that it needs somewhere to clip to is a bit annoying, but hey, quality. Sometimes it sounds too bassy, though.

yeah they are strong on the bass at times but i like my music that way most of the time. great to hear on the battery life, they are fully charged now so i will be using them today to see how they do. the dongle doesn't bother me its actually kind of nice because it makes it easier to access the controls on the unit

How do these fare pricewise to the Sony Ericsson MW600 Bt headset? I have the SE one and I have to say one of the best headsets I have used to date, and it has a FM receiver to boot! Batterylife on the MW600 is pretty decent as well, but the only flaw is the contact slider for the volume compared to this one which is a physical button.
Both looks good, but this one looks like it can take a bit more of abuse lol.

[Review]SOL Republic Tracks Ultra V12

Another review on some new headphones I just got in today. If you seen my past threads here, I have reviewed a pair of SOL Republic Tracks HD, where this is the upgrade of that.
Having said that, I have some experience in breaking these in. I have not properly done so, but I don't think it needs too much longer to do so. The Ultras sport only in one color, blue and white. Not a bad color combo, but wish there were some other ones to choose from. I did like my white ones.
As you see in the pics, they toned down the packaging and slimmed it down, which is good for the recycling gods . Next you see the cans or sound stages as they call it. They are memory foam type ear covers which are NIIIIIIICE and soft lol. What I did notice about these cans are that the "SOL" logo is now etched rather than painted on,which is cool I guess, but subject to more scratches IMO. It is titanium like the Tracks HD, but with just that little modification. Not bad per se, just different, which I like...
Next is the headband. Nice clear-ish, moderately transparent headband that is very Tron like IMO, not a bad thing either, I like Tron lol....
Now the other difference I see in the components comes in the form of the headphone cord. It's tangle resistant, but I feel a bit softer than the Tracks HD cord. This is not a bad thing, again, just different. Not sure why they changed that up.
With the cord plugged into the Sensation, my powerAmp fired up like it's supposed to (LOVE powerAmp btw) and started playing the Laser's album. Great album to test out the base and to break them in. The cord has the mic and buttons that are "i" certified but not "a" certified lol. Let me tell you that the mic works fine when pulling up google now by longpressing the button and asking if it will rain tomorrow.
I also use the jays headset app to control volume with the center button too. Now any long press brings up google now, I had to adjust my settings for two short taps for volume down and three short taps for volume up. Kinda annoying, but that's what I got to work with. If anyone knows of a better app to control the volume, please let me know. :good:
Ok, now the sound. How does it sound? Pretty awesome! Better than the Tracks HD? Yes! Is it worth the upgrade? Well if you have the Tracks HD and are more than happy then no. But if you can sell your Tracks HD for a good price and get these at an awesome price, then YES lol.
I mean the bass is a itty bitty on the bass-heavy side. Yet again, NOT a bad thing. They are not overly bass heavy so it's perfect for me.
Now I have been listening to this album for over two hours and working and I have to say is awesome. I adore these headsets. I wear glasses and these on ear headphones are a delight to wear.

Wow, I've seen a couple of these on the streets around town, but I didn't know that's how you assemble the earphone driver assemblies to the headband!

And I really liked your review too, you should put it up on head-fi.

Love my HD's, have four different cords and headbands for them. Considering getting the Ultras soon. Nice Review!

Now having them for a while, I can say the clarity is there, but the Bass is a bit less than the HD's. If you like the HD's bass, then stick with them. IMO it's not worth the upgrade if you are happy with your HD's and enjoy your bass.
For me, I enjoy clarity and like to hear the ranges, I just like it clear-er then normal, but that's personal preference. If clarity is what you want, sacrificing a bit of bass, then these are for you, but if you are absolutely happy with the HD's then I'd say stick with it.

this is the best combo you can get. I tape all my mp3s to a cassette and nothing sounds better.

I used the Bose QC15 for a week before returning them. The active noise canceling makes your head feel like you are changing altitude or like you are under water. The ANC has to be on for the head phones to work at all, so that was the deal breaker. The battery only lasted about 30 hours of play time too.
I now own the Klipsch m40 ANC headphones. They are super comfortable, memory foam ear pads, and have 1 driver for lower frequencies and another tweeter for your higher frequencies. They do not need to have the noise canceling enabled to listen to music. I have used the NC for about 80 hours and have yet to change the battery out. These headphones sound very very good, along with the beats audio equalizer adding additional bass. The ANC makes the bass sound a little heavier when turned on, however the increase of bass changes the frequency of it to lower hertz, draining out the noises that would come through your headphones.

Active noise cancelling (ANC) is nice if you spend a lot of time traveling by plane. They are mostly good for cancelling low frequency persistent background noise, such as that from the plane's engines. Probably also good if you spend a lot of time traveling by bus or train (or other noisy ground transport, when you of course are not driving yourself). ANC does a nice job of filtering out that type of background noise. It doesn't remove the noise completely. The noise is still there, just greatly subdued. And when you switch it off or take the headphones off, you will be surprised at how much noisier it is. ANC is not as effective filtering out less constant sounds, like people talking, or babies crying. Although they will muffle those sounds a bit.
Aside from inherently noisy enviroments, like planes, I really don't use ANC headphones much. Most times, regular headphones work just fine.
I have the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 headphones. Not the fanciest ones around. Some sound leakage (sound can be heard coming from outside the headphones, not an issue on a noisy airplane), and some reviews pointed out they were not as comfortable as other noise cancelling models. But a great value. At the time, I bought them at Amazon for under $100. There is an updated model (ATH-ANC7B) that looks mostly the same, at Amazon for $115. Like the Klipsch mentioned on the response above mine, the Audio-Technicas give more volume, bass and treble when the active noise cancelling is switched on. The headphones also work passively if the ANC is switched off, or you run out of battery (unlike some models, like the Bose mentioned in the previous reply, which are useless if the batteries die).
The noise cancelling + volume boost can be particularly valuable; say if find your laptop/tablet/phone isn't loud enough, and/or you are watching a movie that has a low sound level, and you can't hear it over the plane's engines. If you find yourself maxing out the volume on your media player, and still can't hear over the background noise, ANC headphones might just do the trick. Don't turn up the volume so loud, you damage your ears, of course.

I'm still looking for a decent headset for my Nexus 4. I've gone through browsing/reviewing many products this week, and I was dead certain I was going to get these SkullCandy Headsets but then found out the Mic is incompatible with Android phones.

Now, the Audio Technica one is a new discovery, I was browsing around today and I spotted this one on Amazon/Ebay but is cheapest on their main site which suits me fine.
I can get the Samsung's for £10, Apple EarBuds for £14 and Audio Technica for £14 also.
Please advise on which one you think is better and why. In my head, I think the Audio Technica would be best, why? I've heard people say the Apple EarBuds sound isn't all that, they break easily the cap on the earbud itself and where the wire goes into the actual earbud there is no protection, one bit of a pull and you could damage the earphone. Samsung seems the cheapest option out there, this is probably a freebie with most of the older Samsung's, I think this may be the S2 or S3 headset.
Audio Technica has a Sensitivity of 102dB, the Samsung has a Sensitivity of 105dB and the Apple EarBuds have a Sensitivity of 109dB.
Sorry, didn't expect to write so much, hopefully I can get some good feedback from you all

what about iphone 5's earbuds much better than the 4S ones but don't expect the controls to work though

I've heard that the Apple EarBuds don't really fit all ears and you can't use the standard foam/cotton caps on them to make it a bit more bigger for fit, also they are quite hard so can make your ears hurt if in for long. Read this from reviews.

Updated the whole thread, please advise, would love to order one of the 3 today after good feedback, cheers!

I have a pair of OLD AT's and they are great for clarity, but literally NO bass. I cannot vouch for these though, sorry.

You could definitely look into the senhiser range. I personally have a pair, mic less as I don't like in line microphones, and they are amazing.
The dB count on these can go up to a wopping 120, that's what mine do anyways. Definitely check them out!
Oh and I forgot to say, I brought mine for £10 but a good pair with mic can be around £20

If Galaxy Buds are "In-Ear" earphones, then what are AirPods?

Hello, I'm actually looking for some kind of Airpods alternative, but all the "AirPods killers" are NOT AIRPODS. What do I mean?
Have you ever noticed how almost only Airpods are the ones that does not actually go deep inside your ear to create that vacuum seal, but they still called In-Ear type earphones? Because of this naming confusion I can't find real Airpods killers for Android.
Unfortunately I can't use almost any earphones in a marked, just like Galaxy Buds, because the "vacuum" in your ear starts getting lose and the sound goes bad, bass is lost and I have to keep fixing them like forever, especially when running.
Airpods hold fine, they sound the same no matter if I run or chill or whatever. Airpods surprised me cause they have bass without needing to seal the ear, but bass and sound overall is not as strong as I would like to.
I also tested Huawei freebuds 3, they sound better than Airpods, bass is stronger, but still.. just not quite cutting it, not enough volume.
I use Viper4Android FX, tested many different options to squeeze everythin of it, still lack of volume and bass.
Do you guys know any other earphones I should check that does not use those rubbers?

I believe those are just called in ear too. I know Razer has the hammerhead buds but I don't think those are any good tbh

Btw I tried the Airpods pro yesterday and ended up getting them. They do have the rubber tips but they feel so different! No pressure in my ears and the sound and noise cancelling is great! It really surprised me because the shape of my right ear usually prevents me from wearing in ears properly. The tips are oval, not round like most are

Thanx! But I watched a lot or reviews on them, usually youtubers say that they sound pretty similar as standard Airpods, but with a little richer sound, just because they seal the canals now. Can it be true?
Cause to me, the original Airpods sound OK, but nothing that fascinating idk.
I also really got tempted to try Sony WF-1000XM3, many folks say they deliver great sound and they have two types of tips, ones of them are some new rubber type, maybe those would hold great..
Anybody tested WF-1000XM3 how they hold in ears? Do they stay in same tight air seal position when you move? Thanx

I did, and I had the same issue as with the Soundcore Liberty 2 pro's.
They are just too heavy and big so while walking around you get this (what's the word) booming sound in your ears from your steps.
I also move around a lot and tilt my head to work under a car dashboard and such and never stay in that well, and because they are big they are easy to knock out of your ears with your shoulders.
Also tried foam eartips which worked better, but putting them in is a pain and it's not all that comfortable having foam expand in your ears.
I used to use the original airpods as daily driver but they sucked while using both buds cause I never could get the same fit and same sound in both ears so I used them mainly for podcasts and stuff in one ear.
The pro's have been great so far.
One thing to keep in mind with the pro's is that in order to update them you need a iphone (but the firmware they come with is fine) and you need a additional app for the battery status.
Reconnecting isn't really a thing either on android with these, so If you walk out of range and back again you probably have to tick the airpods in the bt settings (where my Soundcore buds do this on their own)

airpods are half in-ear where as the airpods pro are full in-ear.
