After rooting, which apps can be securely frozen with Titanium Backup? - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just rooted and I want to freeze apps and stuff I don't need, but would like to know which ones are "sure" to be safely frozen.
Maybe I should have asked this in the Troubleshooting" section?
Thanks.

I wouldn't freeze the launcher or keyboard unless you have two other launchers/keyboards installed....in the event your main launcher or keyboard has issues/dies you have no fallback. More of an issue with the launcher than the keyboard I'd think.

Is there a way to create zip from launchers apk to be flashed through twrp? @famewolf

You can copy the apk from /system/app.....but flashing it via a zip would be an issue if you had it froze...hmm what you could do is use zipme to backup your primary launcher (nova, apex etc) NOW while it's working fine...you may want to do that with your primary keyboard etc....then if your launcher did end up with issues you'd be able to go into recovery and flash it back to a usable state. Zipme can backup app+data but it won't work 100% on pay apps....for example titanium backup would die right after I clicked on it when I installed it via a zipme file...it probably would have been fine if I only backed up the apk (and not the prime key part + data)
Creating a zip of the launcher.apk can be an issue since 1) it's a system app and the zip might not handle it right and 2) it may still end up frozen even if installed via zip.

[Q] Extract "Swype" from an orignal rom

Hi All,
the only swype that supports Arabic language is the one pre-installed in the original ROM "S5670JPKC1"
i want any way to extract it from that ROM and how to install it in the cm7.1 rom
the swype v2.27
i tried coping the system/app/swype.apk
but not working
i think there is system files that should be flash to the rom
Other keyboards
Well, if you dont manage to do it you can check out other alternatives like slideit keyboard. I used to use swype before, but now i use swift key x which is far more awesome than swype. If you found this useful, click on the thanks.

You can try this...not sure it will work or no...but for sure wont make any harm trying
->Root the pre-installed rom
->Install Titanium backup
->backup swype
->Install the rom on which you want it
->Install Titanium backup
->restore backed up swype
Hope it helps
will try it next time i flash the froyo rom again
Thanx
1. You can get it without rooting mate....
Install your Stock firmware which has Swype....
2. Install Dual File Manager from the market.
https://market.android.com/details?id=it.medieval.dualfm_xt&hl=en
3. Open Dual File Manager and keep hitting the back button until you reach the phone memory....

4. Now browse to "/system/app".
Here you will find all the stock apps in your phone.
5. Just look for Swype and COPY it to your SD Card.....
6. Now flash your favorite ROM and tap the extracted "Swype.apk" to just install it.
Hope I helped.

ICS safe stock apps to delete

First of all let me say that I flashed [ROM] ICS - CWM flashable (option B) (sorry, can't post links yet), coming from Revolver 3.11.1 and I am very happy with the result. Since I am a new member, I can't post my Thanks to the developers section just yet, so thank you @dipje and @MrNago for your work.
Now my issue is that of bloatware in the new ICS release. I have found a relevant thread about the issue, named [INFO/WIP] List of ASUS apps/libs/etc that can be removed 'safely?', but it was "Last edited on 23rd May 2011" so I'm afraid it's a bit outdated and I don't know if the file dependancies are the same in ICS.
So, now with ICS has anything changed? What apps are safe for removal (ASUS or not) in order to get to the absolute minimal installation?
Also, another minor question: when deleting an .apk file, do I need to delete the accompanying .odex file as well? And will the relevant icon from the apps drawer be deleted on its own?
In case needed, my TF101 is rooted (of course) and I have no dock (nor plan to buy one).
TIA
Rather than uninstall them, without rooting in ICS you can disable any stock apps. I do not use EMail so I disabled it. Go to Settings - Apps - All - (pick your app) - Disable
Thanks, I didn't know that (among others...).
Obviously, if ICS allows such an action, it means that it is safe to do for any app.
Is that correct? Just double-checking...
Great tip.. thanks for that. I had no idea.
I've now disabled a bunch of bloat!
Will only work on those apps in rom, not downloaded apps. Eg google+ you cannot disable, but email yes

Has anyone noticed that not all stock apps included in the ROM can be disabled?
For example I can not disable MyLibrary. There are other ASUS apps that I can't do this to as well.
I disabled the gallery app and it has since disappeared from the app list in settings. I don't really care to bring it back right now, but I'm hesitant to disable any more until I can figure out how to reenable this one. Any one noticed this behavior?

disable/enable system apps
If your device is rooted, there are number of tools to disable/enable( or freeze/unfreeze) system apps. Some of these tools are:
ROM Toolbox
App Quarantine
Titanium backup

Try Titanium Backup, it lets you remove those pesky system apps. Just btw, is there a specific reason you are still staying on stock? Upgrade to CM10 and you wont have ANY spare apps like that plus you will have a much better rom CM10 is very stable right now.
i believe i have removed the system apps as i have deleted the .apk's under /system/app/ with ES file explorer. now there's dummy/ghost entries list in Applications
example: before it said 'Netflix' but now it says com.netflix.mediaclient since i removed the apk file
i am considering CM10 but so far not bad with ics.

It is should be safe to remove those apps, though be careful which ones you freeze/remove. CM10 is very worth it if you get the chance, Jelly Bean is a nice upgrade from ICS.
Not meaning to be a hater, but Chandrew, you're making my "He broke it" senses starting to tingle. Not saying you have now, just that you will in the future.
With that in mind...I offer you a piece of advice...make frequent backups!

How-To: Play Music Adaptive Storage

Is your version of GPM installed as a system app? Installing the latest update from APK Mirror doesn't seem to work on the stock rom with system google apps.

I was just able to get Google Play Music changed over to a user app on my Stock systemless rooted MM. I did not follow the OP's instructions though. First I thought that Titanium backup would be able to convert it to a user app, but it ended up hanging. Instead I used Root Explorer to go into system/priv-app and delete the Music2.apk. After that I rebooted to make sure that GPM was removed. Once I confirmed it was gone from the system I re-installed it from the Play Store, and moved it to SD.
All works fine now.
Anyone have any idea how to make this work on a non-root (stock) device? I really hate the fact that this scenario doesn't work properly... I have no access to my 128 GB SD card space.

Oneplus Launcher (old version, beta 12, h2os) with Simplified mode.

Hey guys!
As I've written in the title, I really like the simplified mode, and unfortunately Oneplus removed this feature on the last build! why Oneplus!??
I've ported this from ob12 and it worked well for me.
If you would like to use it, put this on system/app/OPLauncher.
1. Copy the folder OPLauncher on the zip and paste in system/app.
2. Now, you need to change the file permissions like the screenshoot.
3. Rename the folder and the file from "OPLauncher_aosp" to "OPLauncher_aosp_old". If will not perform this, something may be wrong.
4. Install the apk as well to confirm and reboot the phone.
5. Enjoy your old OP launcher! [emoji4]
I'll thankful if someone make a flashable zip!

Thanks !
I was looking for this ! Thanks, very helpful.
Will this work on OOS 4.1 or just beta releases?
It works for any oxygenOS. Any device.
Hi ! I read your post and and it's very interesting.
Here I am currently on OxygenOs Oréo and I have for a long time on Nougat used the August 2017 Launcher Oneplus which to the square foders.
"https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/oneplus-ltd/oneplus-launcher-2/oneplus-launcher-2-2-1-5-170731142847-5828a98-release/oneplus-launcher-2-1-5-170731142847-5828a98-android-apk-download/#file"
But since the upgrade to Oréo I can not use this launcher that I had saved with Titanium Backup and during the restoration it works but impossible to go in the settings "crash" every time same as clean storage and cache.
I tell myself with your method by recovering the Apk launcher it would be possible to install my old Launcher Oneplus ?
On the other hand a detail that I do not understand to rename "OPLauncher_aosp" in Root / System / App there is the Foder & File "OPLauncher" but not Aosp ? Then with your method you have to create a new folder or place the Old OPLauncher.apk in the already existing OPLauncher folder?
Another detail since Oréo he changed name to OPLauncher2 but I think the method remains the same just add the "2"?
If I understand your method You put the "Old OPLauncher" in the folder Root/System/OPlauncher and change permissions and the rename it to OPLauncher_old.apk & OPLauncher_old for the folder too ?
Thank you
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24459283995298297 i found if someone wants old hydrogen launcher working on all ROMs
