Screenshot on Nextbook Ares 11? - General Questions and Answers

Can anybody help me? I just got a Nextbook Ares 11 and I cannot figure out how to take a screenshot. Power and volume down or menu doesn't work? Does it even have ability for screenshots??? If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it so much! You can contact me via email at [email protected] Thanks

Did you get an answer to this by chance? I apparently took one the other day by accident and haven't been able to figure out how.

You connect your tablet and your keyboard. Then, you press the camera icon and the button that is between the wifi button and the calander button. It says PrtScr with a line below it. Below that line, it says SysRq. You press this button and the camera button at the same time

On k/b ctrl and print screen buttons

You can just hold down
Code:
VOLUME DOWN + POWER
Mainly for other people who find this forum post, not only for the OP.

If you read the OP, they already tried volume down+power.
Got any other suggestions?
I DO NOT PROVIDE HELP IN PM, KEEP IT IN THE THREADS WHERE EVERYONE CAN SHARE

Then the OP didn't hold the buttons down long enough. It's kind of slow to do it compared to some tablets.
Also, it helps to make sure you press both at as close to the same time as possible.

Remove Quick List Action Screen - Feature request

Hello everyone.
The HD2 Power-off procedure takes extremelly long, first perssing the power hardware button for a few seconds, then waiting for the Quick List Action Screen to pop-up, then pressing the Power Off Button on the touch screen.
Id like to request a simple mod the can bypass/eliminate the usless Quick List Action Screen so that (like in most phones) once the Power hardware button is pressed for a couple secinds, the phone shuts down directly with no further confirmations or pop-up lists.
Thanks much
here is something i cobbled together for you from an app i had lying around that can shutdown with no warnings (sorry cannot remember who created it) and a tweak to map it to long press power key.
Extract all three files into your windows folder and long press on power key will power off with no warnings.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[ How-To ] Disable Search Button

For those that don't use it for anything and want to disable it cause you accidently hit it 10 times a day, flash the disable zip. If you want to enable it again, just flash the default zip
does that take care of the button completely or just it's long-press function?
Nice work! Do you think you could make it so i can hit the volume up button to bring the phone out of suspend instead of hitting the power button?
Both of the .kl files are the same...just giving ya a heads up before someone restores the default and doesn't have their search button back...but nice find. Thanks!
The default one was the one I forgot to put in there but it's fixed now

Besides disabling the search button, is it possible to map it to do something else like launch internet or something of that sort?

Its probably not built into the Sense build on the device. It used to be, but idk anymore since it isn't required by Android 2.0+
Also, to the people that want it to do something else:
See my post here. My guide is from way back in the G1 days, but all the same things apply here. Just change file names. An interesting use would be to change the search button to a camera button
Or see Decad3nce's wonderful writeup on the functions you can assign here. For the CDMA Hero, again just use your judgement. Use the right files
Also, my app Search2Play will soon be making it's way to the Evo now that we have usermode system partition access. Check it out here
Nice! Thanks for this, I always hit that button by accident.
Thank you! That damn button annoys the hell out of me everyday
Strange. I love the search button and use it all the time to text, call, launch apps etc.
Glad this is helpful to all the rest!
thanks!! i hit that damn button all the time

calkulin, would you be okay with me adding this to the online kitchen im slowly building for the EVO?
i'll link it back to this thread and credit your name.
If your looking to use the volume down you can just open the keymap~.kl file included in the zip with wordpad and swap the volume down and power or how ever you like. Just realize that the cap buttons won't work in place of the hardware buttons.
I posted a fix that swapped the volume down and the power button.
Nice fix tho.

Top Ten Android Tips & Tricks

I have been using the android phone since it's inception aka Tmobile - G1. Only now I have understood the real power of android. Over a period of time I discovered some simple tricks & tips some of which I got to know by other android users.
I have tested this on my Samsung Galaxy and I believe it would work on any other android phone.
Visit Top Ten android Tips and Tricks
I would love to get more tips from other readers here.
Thanks
Being new to smart phones in general and to android specifically, I appreciated you sharing your "Tricks and Tips".
Your screen shot tip didn't work for me. When I press the back button, I loose the focus of the screen I'd like to make a snapshot of and then pressing the Home button does what it normally does.
It would have been nice if the information was posted directly in your thread instead of just including an external link.
Awesome post! Thanks!

To take the screen shot, you first press the back button, without leaving the back button, press the home button. In some phones you need to use the volumne button instead of the back button.

Thanks for your reply. I had already tried holding the back button and pressing the home button (that is what is written in your tips) but it didn't work. As soon as I press the back button, the screen returns to the previous view, irregardless of whether I press and hold. The volume button also doesn't do it.
I tried to memorize all of thoes numbers at some point.
Cool basics tips for beginners
Great post, thanks m8!
whatever you get always install CWM it is very very helpful at times
One of the most under-used tips is not even that advanced. The "share with" feature to share data between apps is tremendously useful. It's one of Android's killer features vs iOS.
For example, to send a URL to Twitter you can hit menu > more > share page and then select the app to share from. 95% of Android users I speak with don't even know this is built into the OS and works from/to practically any app.

Screenshots with android 4.2?

Hello xda developers,
I just flashed CyanogenMod 10.1 nightly which installed android 4.2 onto my Samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 model GT-P5113. I am really happy with this update as I was able to keep my tablet rooted and upgrade to Jelly Bean. However, I am not sure about how to either add or setup a screenshot button like I had in the stock Samsung android ICS. is a screenshot setting available for Jelly Bean version 4.2? I would like to set up a screenshot option so that i can take a screenshot at anytime.
I thank you all for your help and assistance

Sent from my GT-P5113 using xda app-developers app
Search in settings -> system -> power menu -> and ativate "screenshot" option.
Then if you long press power buton you will have the option to take a SS.
oh so thats how you do it...
Duarte777 thank you so much for your response. I really appreciate your help with this. Do you know if its possible to add a button so that it can do the screenshots instead of having to use the power button constantly? If anyone knows how I might be able to add that function I would be very
grateful.
Thanks

Pressing Volume Down + Power at the same time makes a screenshot.
Works on all Stock Android style ROMS like CM and AOSP.

i'm using that trick too
pressing power + volume down at the same times
okay okay...
I have been using the power button to take my screenshots, but what I really want to know is how I can add a button on the bottom menu with the back button and home button so that button can be my screenshot button. If anyone knows how to do that I would be really grateful. I tried adding a button but all I can add is a menu button or a blank button or a search button. I did that from settings...
Any ideas?...

[Q] Disabling the long press function of the hw power off button.

Hi everyone,i looked for a lot of solution (here and on other forums) but none of them worked. Even Acer technics abandoned me so it's all up to software now.
I will explain briefly my problem.
The power off button of my Acer Liquid e2 (i posted this here because there are no specific board for this phone) became incredibly sensible, even when the phone is just standing on a table it hard power off because of the long press of the power off button all by itself.
Now,i tried cleaning it,insult him, even borrow him to the assistance (they said that the button is probably attached to the motherboard so no repair, buy a new one) Not a single hardware solution worked (this phone never took a hit,but i have no warranty).
So i tried software,i used two different application to understand what was the button pressed, thanks to keytracker and whichbutton now i know that the longpress of power off button is 116,and the function is KEYCODE_POWER.
Now i wanted to simply remap the hw key so it does nothing but none of the two button appear in Button remapper neither the number or the function. So i was thinking to manually edit the file that manage this kind of thing is that possible? How can i disable the power off button? Obviously the change must be made after the boot, and in a way that still let me power on the phone and unlock (for the unlock part i could just remap a long press of the back button). This is way out of my league. Any advice, any help any possible solution are much appreciated.
Sorry for my bad english and i hope someone can help, otherwise i will have to take another phone...and i really can't afford it.

Thanks for the help i will wait for the answer,i was thinking that if we find a way to disable only the power off function it will be perfect.
Please read this first http://source.android.com/devices/tech/input/key-layout-files.html
Ok, its in /system/usr/keylayout
Just edit the files in a text editor for your specific key number

This is the only way to do it.
Except for some sort of xposed module if you find one.
Dont look for exactly it, but experiment and look for off the wall keys that might be helpful to edit.

I dont like to experiment with hardware key,im looking for a way to delete only the KEYCODE_POWER function,if i completely remove the 116 string i won't even be able to boot the phone and i don't like to brick things.
Edit: That kind of edit could work, the problem is that this string:
KEY 116 POWER WAKE
KEY 116 POWER
Should stop the problem from coming when in lockscreen,i suppose that will kind of work..thanks a lot i will try it and let you know.

I doubt it because the bootloader handles power on and the POWER function seems like it would allow you to turn the screen on. Do you want me to try it on my phone before you do it on yours?
And he never said to delete it, he only said to change it to just POWER not POWER WAKE.
Seems like to delete the keycode you would have to edit the android framework and that is beyond the scope of my efforts.
EDIT: Okay I got your reply.

I can't find that specific file seckey.kl probably it varies from devices to devices..i managed to find two different files that both have the string power wake, and they are mtk-kdp.kl and querty.kl what do you think? i should probably edit both of them..but what do you think?

The android docs only said not to edit generic.kl so it seems your fine.
I would do a Recovery backup if possible then edit all of the key values.
And also make sure usb debugging is on so if you cant use the power button that you could recover with an adb shell.
Please hit the thanks button if you have the time.
