Audio Mods Stops Google Maps Voice Level (Volume) Control - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently running MOAR V7.0 (everything you could want in control of your phone) Have tried quite a few audio mods to improve music quality. Viper4android, Extrememusic, etc. All of them remove the ability in google maps to change the "Voice Level" control which allows you to set to louder, normal, softer. The option no longer appears in settings/navigation settings. I need it set to louder to match to my Waze volume levels since I use both apps depending on travel situation. I really like the audio mods, but also need to control the volume setting in google maps. Anyone else notice this, and what can I do to rectify? Thanks so much for your help. Daily reader, first time question.

Works just fine for me. I use viper4android. Setting shows up and allows me to adjust it to what I want. Try uninstalling maps and install it again.

Thanks. Was afraid of that. Have tried that numerous times rolling back google maps, or uninstalling/reinstalling using TIBU. I keep trying and then falling back to a nandroid backup without viper. have tried numerous audio mods. they all make the google maps option disappear. hmmm. thanks again. I'll survive.

I don't see how those mods could/would remove that. I mean it works perfectly fine for me. Gotta be something with your current setup. I started on a fresh clean install so maybe that is why.

Tried another totally fresh install of MOAR V7. Before allowing any playstore apps to be updated I flashed xtrememusic which includes Viper4android. No go on maps. Still lost the option in settings to set volume to "louder". uninstalled maps with TIBU and reinstalled from playstore, still the same. Back to MOAR V7 nanroid without any audio mods and options is there in google maps. I saw another same question on internet, but no answer. So not totally alone. Thanks!

Automated Tasks not triggering (like Tasker)

I've got this weird problem. I installed Tasker and originally restored a backup of my tasks from my OG Droid....none of them worked. Tasker shows that a certain profile is triggered in the Notification Shade but none of the tasks in the profile happen. My sound isn't changing automatically anymore, the speech engine isn't announcing the name of the caller, etc.
I thought maybe it was due to restoring a backup from a phone without the Sense UI...that perhaps certain calls were different. I uninstalled and reinstalled Tasker and just started to rebuild the profiles manually. They still don't work.
At this point I thought it was Tasker and I uninstalled and instead, for now, setup a couple of events in Sound Manager to just mute the sound (and unmute) during certain hours. They didn't trigger...I had to manually change the sound (which I can do in Sound Manager).
I'm lost as what would prevent these from going off when they should. They worked fine on my old Droid and I have pretty much all the sames apps, so I don't think anything should be conflicting. I'm just hoping someone smarter than I might have seen this behavior or might have an idea on what to check next....
Thanks
Ryan
I restored my tasks from my OG Droid to my Thunderbolt, and they all worked!
That's weird. I thought perhaps it was the Sense UI that was causing problems. I wonder why these events in Tasker and in Sound Manager aren't happening.
On a side note, possibly related. Cardio Trainer (in the music settings) doesn't let me pick from any of my playlists (where you select which it should use when playing music in a workout). Anyone else seeing this?
Could Kickback, Talkback and the other back app from Google cause a problem? I'm not really sure what they do....there were installed with CM7 and then auto-installed on the TB.

Doubtful, I run those same apps too!
Well it's working again although I can't say why. It turns out I did have a dead touch point on the screen, right where the Y is on the landscape keyboard. Went into VZ and didn't have that problem on the 2 display models....and the tech confirmed it wasn't just me.
All my apps just finished auto-installing after signing into my Google account and Sound Manager is working fine. Odd.
It's funny you posted this, I downloaded tasker yesterday because I was going to set it to change to wifi for when I got home but I havn't done it yet. Good to hear it works
Fwiw, tasker has no effect on my tbolt. I'm running 12.605.9 (latest leaked fw)

In case anyone was wondering, I was running the stock version of Android that comes on the TB, hadn't even rooted yet.

[Q] Gmail problem with Cataclsm rom

Hi to everyone!
This is my first post and so i can't put it into the rom's thread, so i hope that i've placed my question in the right place...
I have an issue using gmail app on cataclysm rom, the automatic sync don't function. I receive mails in the morning, immediatly when i start my phone, but in the rest of the day no notification. But if i open gmail app, and refresh it, mail were downloaded.
All the setting are good, auto sync, data, i've read some instruction on the web and this is not my first experience with android.
I've tried to install another rom (cyanogenmod 11) and the problem disappears.
Thanks for the answers. And sorry for my rusted english
Try signing out of Google and sign back in.
Also check your download of cataclysm.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm also on Cataclysm [Dec 12, 2013 Release] and have no issues...
(hmm read your issue again and restarted my phone, unlocked the screen once, didn't open gmail, turned off the screen. Then sent an email from a different account. i don't get an audible notification or a pulse light, however if I turn the screen on I see the notification icon and the email is there once I unlock the screen and open gmail for the first time. i think that because I'm using chrome, gmail is getting a signal that I'm on the laptop and thus suppressing the notices on my phone (light/noise) as i don't need my phone to notify me of new email if I'm looking/using chrome where I'm logged in and just got an on screen notification)
The good thing about 4.4 is you can logout of all accounts with out factory reset, so do that, then reboot and log in again.
Else it is probably best to start again, full wipe.
EDIT: OK, silly me, I didn't have a ringtone set for notifications phone makes a noise now when I get an email. I think I have to wait longer than I am to get a pulse light notification.
Thank you for answers.:good:
While i was waiting for answers, i have made some ttests.
in cm11 all was good, because my account doesn't restore settings, also ok if i restore all apps from titanium backup without data. But if i restore all data, gmail stop sync.
So i've tried to make a full wipe, reinstall cataclysm, uncheck automatic restore, install all apps with titanium (excluded gmail).
Some minutes to reconfiguring all and for now all is good. :victory:
So, i think was a setting, but i don't understood which one...
Thanks to all, and happy new year!
Titanium backup always screws things up. I've noticed this many times over years of being on here

This messed me up too, I've had to manually install everything and my Nexus 5 is fine now.
The first time I restored I kept getting stutters and pauses.
Selectively restored data for some apps like the Google Auth app.
Glad you got it working, the Cataclysm ROM is really great, stock Google + minor tweaks (circle battery, customise the toggles)

My only problem was with gmail, so for the rest i've used Titanium.
It's the first time i've got a problem with it...
But the important is that my problem was solved.

[Q] Nexus 5 Notification DRAWER wierd images

Hello intelligent people at xda
ok, so here's my problem: (see attached images)
the notification drawer on my nexus 5 is acting strangely. Its not displaying the notification (widget) as it should for any notification widget that has play, pause, stop etc. such as Play Music, Tunein, and Viral. The widget also fails to update. (If I change the track, it fails to update the name.) The controls WORK i.e. i can still pause, skip track etc. however, there is obviously some glitch/bug with this.
All other notifications that don't require "active" controls, such as gmail, hangouts etc. working normally...even if i expand it.
This problem came totally out of the blue! The only "tinkering" that ive done with my phone today is that i removed xposed framework COMPLETELY (flashed the included disabler.zip) because i missed ART (dalvic feels sluggish). After i switched to ART, i noticed this issue. So then I switch back to davic to see if it persists - and unfortunately, it does.
Plz help me (a noob). Any suggestions to what i can do to fix it?

yes if you directly flash..
no if you use titanium backup to backup your apps
and apps like super backup for messages, contacts and call logs...
your internal storage data like movies, pictures will not be wiped...
all your apps will be lost but you can backup and restore them via titanum backup...
read the Rom thread carefully before flashing if you are new to flashing roms..
please dont skip any step in rom thread

Music bug since the update of 5.1.1

Everytime when I turn off my screen while listening with headphones on or off, my music disrupts after a period of 6 seconds.
Now I have tried a various things to fix it, and strangely enough disabling the lock screen (any type of security ) fixes this issue)
Might any of you know a better alternative to make my life easier? I don't want to leave my phone insecured for the sake of listening to music.
Thank you.

Reflash with stock 5.1.1 ROM via odin.
Have you (TS) tried the solution provided above? I'm experiencing the bug as well. It's really irritating.
I managed to fix the problem by clearing the system cache. Just boot into odin, clear the cache and restart the phone.
(I didn't reflash the stock rom)

Thanks for the reply. When you mean boot into odin, did you mean recovery? I have done that as well, but it seems that it didn't fix the problem for me.
To add another solution to this bug, I downloaded and flashed the stock ROM for my phone. Apparently, it fixed the bug.
Yes that's what I meant, sorry for the confusion. I might as well do the same. Thanks for the heads up !

Heya, sorry to bring this topic back again to life. Apparently, the fix was only temporary. The bug reappeared after a few hours. I might try a clean install just to see if this gets fixed.
Edit: My device model number is SM-G920F

Do you have greenify installed and have the music app set to greenify? Also are you using the built in close app feature? The one found in battery stats. If so do you have the app set to auto kill? This feature kills all selected apps after a certain time of the screen being turned off.

I haven't installed Greenify yet on my S6. I had it on my S4, but it wasn't causing any problems at all. I checked the close app feature, and Music app wasn't placed there. The Music app crashes, it doesn't just close; without any warning message or whatever.
Update: I did a factory reset/data wipe via recovery mode, and used Odin to install a fresh 5.1.1. I tried the Music app, and it doesn't crash. I hope it wouldn't crash anymore.

Did the fresh install fixed the problem completely? I have it as well and it's super annoying, it will be super annoying to have to download my apps again but i will if it fixes the problem.

Unfortunately, it did not. To be exact, it fixed the problem for about a week, but the problem appeared again. Try using Power Amp music player, it's working well for me. I'm tempted to buy the full version after this trail version expires. Spending 1$ would be way better than getting annoyed all the time by the default music player.

Orientation sensor frozen

I'm using a Pixel, still on Android 9, and my orientation sensor (and accelerometer) have suddenly stopped working. However, it appears that it's a software issue as the auto-rotation still works when in Safe Mode. I've uninstalled every app that's been updated in the past two days (roughly when I think this problem began) but it's still a no-go. I've also installed a sensor test app and I find the sensors do work initially on boot, but freeze after 5 seconds or so.
Any ideas of how I might fix this?
Clear system cache.
You update, install or uninstall any apps recently?
I tried clearing the cache but it didn't change anything. I also uninstalled all the apps that had recently updated, restarting the phone each time, but the sensor is still frozen unfortunately.

Factory reset time...
I have the same problem also with Pixel 1 and it happened on the same day (Oct 20)! The difference is I'm on Android 10.
After factory reset and backup restore it works.
After updating all apps, it still works.
After restart once all apps are updated... No work.

Roll back to factory settings, one by one and find the culprit(s). Sounds like a rogue 3rd party app.
Once I have a device running well I almost never update anything. I'll run on the factory loaded versions for years many times. Result, no issues.

Thanks for the help! How do I do this?
The return to factory settings is in the app under settings.
You can try uninstalling it otherwise.
I don't see that option all the time and you may have to hit uninstall for it to appear.
A forced stop might be enough for troubleshooting.
Typically I use my package disabler for things like this.
So I've done a factory reset with no restore (to keep it clean). Updated every app individually and restarted the device each time.
Updated GOOGLE MAPS. Rebooted.
Presto! All sensors are now locking up and battery starts burning away.
Disabled Google Maps, cleared cache + data, and rebooted. Problem did NOT go away. Now I'm doing one more (hopefully last) restore and will disable Google Maps right away.
Wow... did not expect it to be Maps...

I'm not, Gmaps updates are a back street abortion.
So it was the update that trashed it?
I always keep gmail and maps on the factory load version. Invariably updates make them less user friendly on a Samsung
I set Playstore settings for auto updates by wifi only.
I always keep wifi disabled, effectively preventing any auto updating. I also firewall block and disable Playstore unless I need it. It's a background pocket hog.
Updates generally cause more harm than good if the app is already running well...
I have the same issue, and after guessing which app was causing the problem I found out it's the Google app. I disabled it and all the sensors started working back and also automatic brightness. Also I tried leaving the beta updates of the Google app and whenever the Google app is active the sensors stops working. Probably Google trying to kill the pixel 1 or a new function conflicting with the sensors
Oh my god! I have the same issue! Stock Android 10.
Sensors work fine on Safe Mode, but on normal mode they sometimes don't work.
Same problem here, since a couple of days ago, some sensors (gyro, light, accelerometer, compas) stop working after a couple of seconds after reboot. I factory reset my pixel, I tried uninstalling GMaps, I tried deactivating Wifi and Bluetooth,... but nothing is working.
Proximity sensor still work though.

Have you tried disabling Google app as mentioned by cristejeda33 above?
I have the same issues, it happens when one or more apps get updated, don't now which one is causing it exactly, but the issue goes away after the next update, and comes back at the next update and so on ..., features like, adaptive brightness, tap to wake, lift to wake, display rotation os and in camera, youtube video rotation....... stopped working and the battery is draining a lot faster. thinking of getting rid of the good old pixel ..

Try disabling Google play Services... just a wild guess.
It's a dependency or a parent app of Google App that's maybe causing the trouble. These can be hard to ferret out... play with it.
You could just go shotgun and revert all Google apps to factory load version -if- it wasn't a system wide firmware update that triggered it.
I've experienced this too many times, updates break things.
On my N10+ I lock down all updates, especially firmware. I'm rarely updated anything because it causes trouble. Result is a very fast and stable operating platform with minimum maintenance required. When there is an issue it's much easier to track down as the system is a known and familiar quantity. My current load is over a year and a half old... still running strong.
Wife and I are using OG Pixels and a couple of weeks ago we both noticed massive battery degradation. Then we both realized that auto rotate is extremely slow as are a bunch of sensors. Skymap doesn't track anymore. Both our phones also get extremely hot.
Google brought us here and we see that stopping the Google app makes the sensors work normally again. Lots of issues being reported in the playstore for this app also. Would love to hear if anyone has made any headway working around this or are we screwed until an update comes out?
What's the best way we can report this to Google publicly? And put the link here
All accelerometer, compass, gyroscope and proximity sensors turned off a few days ago on my og pixel and after disabling the google app all the sensors are working again.
I had a look on the play store and the last update for the google app was on the 21st October, which is exactly when it broke.
I disabled google maps first, then the google app, then sensors worked, so i re-enabled the maps app, I then cleared the cache on the google app and re-enabled that too, and all is still working.
Thank you very, very much for finding the cause of this, I was about to factory reset the phone and then have to reload everything which may or may not have worked anyway. Your efforts are much appreciated, long may your technology function correctly.
