What non Samsung apps do you use ? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note5

Just curious how many people use different non Samsung apps on their Note 5 ?
- Keyboard ? I use Google Keyboard, I found the stock Samsung keyboard too cramped
- Text app ? I tried stock messages but didn't like it, so went back to Textra
- Themes ? I don't like the look of stock TW, so I went with the Material Dark theme
- Browser = Chrome
- Launcher = NOVA
Anyone else use different non Samsung apps ?
Another question regarding the stock messages app;
On the stock Messages app, I hate that little description that pops up for 2 seconds when about to type or reply to a Group Message ? It says like " Group messaging will now be converted, blah, blah blah " How can I turn that off, or stop it from popping up each time when replying to a group text ?

Same apps as you except I use action launcher instead of Nova. Also use Google calendar just because of the widget. the stock calendar app isnt bad.

Nova launcher pro, swiftkey keyboard, hangouts for sms, chrome browser, aosp calculator, Google calendar, Google Keep for notes, i pretty much delete every Samsung app as soon as i get root on these phones.

I use squid as my writing pad, has some cool features.

Can the google keyboard use the spen features?

Can't confirm that the Google Keyboard does but I would think it does. Swiftkey ( my keyboard of choice ) allows the use of the SPen.

I use Fleksy KB. It's the bomb diggy!

The spen feature should work with any keyboard specifically because it pops up if you hover wherever you can do text input.

SwiftKey, Opera browser, Power Amp

I'm currently trying to decide if I want to install a launcher. I have launcher pro and not too fond of it. I'm looking at adwex now and I want to get peoples input on the two. Pro's and cons of each.
Have you tried go! Launcher? I'm using it with miui currently and it looks / works great. Similar customization to adw but I prefer go!

I like go! as well but it has one major flaw for me (well, not the app but rather the integration with Android when installing go! add ons like go! dialer). When you get a missed call, you can see the notification in the notifications bar. If you jump to it, it shows rom dialer / log and when you jump out, notification is gone. Normal behavior. But if you tap the phone shortcut in dock and it launches go! dialer by default, you see the dialer / log, but after jumping back notification is still there. Either go! dialer should display notifications in the notification bar so we could disable the android notifications, or the dialer app should remove the stock android notification once event was viewed. Same for go! message app. And go! notifications for dock shortcuts.
But anyhow, I would prefer if MIUI allowed app sorting on homescreen as part of it's launcher. And I do believe this is one of the most sought after features. I don't really like the way MIUI "reserves" blocks for each app and that you must move them to folders in order to sort and that the free spaces left on screen are not used up before adding the next app to the last active screen.
/end rant
I'm not using go dialer or sms. But I don't recall these issues when I did use them. Specifically sms, just turn off default sms notifications.

Favorite messaging app?

Since we now have the option to pick in 4.4, what's your favorite messaging app? I've been using Ninja SMS. I prefer a Holo interface, and the chat heads mean I never have to look at the interface itself anyways.
Hangouts

Hangouts or textra for simplicity. Smart messenger for more features and speed. Has message back ups and works with your Google drive to send files.

AOSP MMS. Identical to the standard 4.3 MMS app.

Hangout isn't bad, but I really miss the remove/change not compatible unicode options.
For this reason my favorite is the 8sms https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thinkleft.eightyeightsms.mms. Looks like the stock 4.3 sms app, but have more options.

I tried 8sms, but sometimes wouldn't receive pictures in MMS. It would appear as a triangle. Looks like a play button. Same with the stock messaging .apk. Any ideas?

Another vote for Textra. Has some nice features, but not overly complicated or bloated. Handles MMS picture messages and iPhone-style group messages great.

Can't let handcent go. Its been on every phone I've owned dating back to my HTC Evo

This isn't making any sense to me, you have always been able to pick whatever messaging app you want.

@krabman Sure, you could always use any SMS app, but it was never flawless. In KitKat there technically isn't a default SMS app. You pick whatever you want.

In sorry but you have always been able to pick whatever you want and it would work without issue. All you had to do is turn off notifications in the stock messaging app which wasn't any harder than what you need to do now. What you didn't have to do was set your shiny new messing app as default because the operating system did it for you. If you installed multiple messaging apps like handcent and chomp it would then give the option to set one as default and you could go into the main settings/applications and remove that default just like any other application installs such as launchers or galleries where more than one app could be called to perform an action.

See above. Assuming all the various messaging apps get tuned up to work on 4.4 you will have exactly the same options you had on 4.3, no more no less. There is no now you can pick.

[A] Google Now - active listening on home screen

Google Now works great when I click on the homepage search bar that opens the Google Now screen but is one of you able to get Google Now to listen actively on the home screen to: OK Google, followed by a voice command? I am using the ViperOneM8 rom and Open Mic+ for Google Now does not seem to work
As a one step workaround I use Nova launcher and swipe up to start Google Now but like the active listening functionality.
Google's Home Launcher offers this. I use it.

The reason I created this thread was because I was surprised I had never heard of this keyboard. So anyways please your experience with the different keyboards and let me know your favorite and why

Stock messaging app - internal link handling

Morning everyone. I've found that when someone sends me an SMS and that SMS contains an URL, the URL is handled and opened inside of the messaging app. This is a problem for me as typically there is something that prevents the page from displaying. I can tell the page loaded because when I click the X to close the page, it briefly displays the content then I'm back at the SMS. Anyone else seeing this? Is there a way to force the url to be opened in the stock Samsung browser or Chrome?
I'm wondering the same thing. Very frustrating.

You can use package disabler pro to disable Samsung voice input and then Google will be default
Hmm....I was hoping that others had the this SMS URL problem and had solved it. It's ironic I guess....Sprint sends me a URL regarding the Note 7 recall....I can't read it because it opens inside of the SMS messaging app. I had to Copy the url into the Samsung Browser (which I really like) to see the recall info.
Well, if anyone should pass through this thread...and had the issue but resolved it, please let me know. Thanks
You can also just hit the 3 dot menu and select open in browser. Its not a solution but its easier then copying the link.
