PLEASE HELP!! Conditional Call Fowarding doesn't work when phone is on! - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been trying to get Google Voice working on my OPO since I got it at the end of last November. I had it set up on my previous phone and loved it. However, on my OPO, callers hear a message saying that "this is not a working number", when they should be forwarded to my GV.
At this point, everything seems to point to an issue with the phone, not Google or my carrier (Cricket Wireless). Here's why:
Conditional Call forwarding to GV with different phone (same plan, number, SIM, except on a Lumia 520): works
This should mean that Cricket Wireless supports CCF​Conditional Call forwarding to GV from OPO, while phone is OFF: works
This should confirm that Cricket Wireless supports CCF, is configured to forward calls correctly, and that my Google Voice account is working correctly​Conditional Call forwarding to YouMail from OPO, ON or OFF: works
The phone does indeed seem capable of CCF.​Unconditional Call Forwarding (i.e. Always Forward, forward all calls immediately) to GV: works
Everything here seems to be working. Not sure if Unconditional forwarding is handled by the carrier or the phone though.​Conditional Call forwarding to GV from OPO, while phone is ON: Callers hear "this is not a working number"
This Something on the phone is misconfigured or not forwarding to the correct number?​
I have tried disabling Hangouts on the phone in case there was an issue with that, as well as turning off call forwarding from my Google number to my phone, in case there was some kind of a forwarding loop going on, but still no luck.
Can anybody help? Are my above assumptions wrong? Does anybody else have this working (Google Voicemail, Cricket, and OnePlus combo)? I tried switching to YouMail for a while but the app is buggy, the message quality seems pretty terrible, and there's no automatic transcription.

Question about replacing Voicemail with Google Voicemail

So yesterday I made the switch from using Visual Voicemail to using my Google Voice account as my Voicemail. So far, I LOVE IT (I recommend doing this if you have a GV account). My only concern is that I'm wondering if I need the app constantly running to get notifications of new voicemail? Because I have gbhil's kernel installed with the tweaked memory-killer, so I don't know if the GV app is always running. Can anyone using Google Voice for Voicemail post how they have everything setup? I want to use the least amount of battery with this, so I was thinking maybe only enabling SMS notifications of new Voicemail?

Yes, it is always running, and to be honest, it takes up very little battery to be noticed.

Setting this up forwards voicemail from calls to your cell number (not your GV number) on to your Google Voice visual voicemail. In my case, nobody even knows my real cell number, they just call/text GV, but for folks transitioning it could be useful.
Isn't that the same as using Google Voice for your cellphone Voicemail? Anyway, what did it mean by "immediate" forwarding? I didn't quite understand what they meant by that... and I don't want to see a $0.20 charge on each minute/call I use... my dad would get very angry haha.

I should probably say that right now, I have a Google Voice number, and I have the voicemail setup so that any call I get to my Sprint number gets picked up by the Google Voice number's voicemail... I hope that makes sense?
Yes, setting GV up in "voicemail mode" is a newer feature than when I first got my GV set up, but my roommate has his set up that way. It's pretty much the same but they take out a few of the forwarding features that you wouldn't be using if you're just using it as a voicemail service. (ring multiple phones and such). One thing you'll be glad to hear is that around the end of last year, Sprint decided to drop the charges on conditional call forwarding, as part of a "partnership with google". So, there are NO CHARGES when call forwarding to google voice.
Edit: I see what you're saying. When they say immediate call forwarding, they mean unconditional call forwarding. (forwarding all calls into your sprint number). What you probably want to do is CONDITIONAL call forwarding (forwarding calls when the line is busy, or when there is no answer).. So you've got [sprint number]->[google voice]->[your phone] Which will be charged because all calls are forwarded to GV, and then GV rings your phone
I have, (and you probably want), [sprint number]->[your phone]->[if no answer, google voice] Which doesn't result in a charge.

Hmm... I'm still confused about that. With the diagrams above, are you talking about someone calling me? Or me calling someone? Really I don't care about having anything transferred to my GV number... all I want is the voicemail part of it.
What have you done so far? Are you forwarding ALL your calls to google voice first, and then google voice is ringing your phone? (*72 forwarding?)
What I'm trying to get across here is that you want all your incoming calls to go to your phone first, then if you're busy or there it isn't answered, it will go to google voice, which will automatically pick up and go to voicemail when you have your phone set to "activate google voicemail on this phone" in your Google Voice settings.
If you currently have it set up to forward all your incoming calls to your google voice number, then google voice rings your cellphone afterwards, you will be charged for this type of call forwarding. You don't want to set it up this way if you're just using google voice for voicemail.
If you followed the setup that GV gives you for voicemail, they have you use *285555555555 (replace 5s with number you want to forward to. In this case, your GV number), which is what you want to use. This forwards calls to the specified number, after you either don't pick up your cellphone, or you're currently in a call. (*38 turns this off)
In contrast:
*725555555555 (again, replace 5s with the number to forward to) forwards all incoming calls to your sprint number to whatever number you specify. This charges you monies. Don't use this one. If you have done this, turn it off by dialing *720
Yes, I have the first thing you said currently. Basically if someone calls me (Sprint number), and I'm not there and they leave a voicemail, it leaves the voicemail with Google Voice. I then use the GV app to listen to my voicemail. I think I understand it now. So basically all I want to do is click "Enable Voicemail on this phone"? How would I go about setting it up so that all calls are forwarded to my Google Voice number (just so I don't accidentally do this)?

Maybe I'll make a Google Voice for dummies writeup, since I haven't really contributed anything of substance here yet
But I went through this same thing late last year, GV can be very confusing for people that haven't used it.

Quick question, what is the best way to set GV up so that I don't need to have Mobile Network (EvDO) constantly on? I only really ever have EvDO enabled when I need to use it so I can save battery life.
Well, I don't ever turn mine off, but I'd guess you'd just need internet connectivity to check and download your GV messages. If you don't mind not being updated the moment you get a new message, then there's nothing you'd have to do. (I mean you'll know when you get a missed call, if your phone is on, obviously) But if you REALLY need to know right away when you get a new message, you can turn on SMS notifications in GV settings.
Your phone still has internet connectivity in 1x only mode, it's just not as fast.

Well, he said he was turning off 'mobile network'. When I turn off 'mobile network' in my settings, I don't get ANY internet connectivity. I'm pretty sure it disables it entirely, regardless of connection type

how do i setup google voice?

so, i registered for google voice in the past and im thinking about actually using it now for the new thunderbolt since i wanted a new number anyway. has anyone used google voice on verizon before? what should i keep in mind when making the decision or not? does it ring a ton of times before going to voicemail like it did on sprint? have there ever been any issues with verizon and google voice or don't they mind if you use it? thanks.

I've had it for years. No issues on VZW. Just like your normal number. Voicemail is transcribed for you, though it's not very accurate. You can usually figure out what they're trying to say. If not, you can play the message and listen to it.
I've been very happy with Google Voice on my Android phones. The voice-to-text isn't as good as some other systems I've seen, but it works well enough.
Download the app and give it a try. I think when I set my up on the TB, it gave an error complaining about being able to configure VZW. That was a new error I hadn't seen on my Inc. You may need to manually configure the "no-answer" call forwarding to your GV number. The setup should configure your phone to dial your GV number when you hit the 1 button for "Voicemail".
Give it a try!
Google Voice is the greatest thing since sliced bread, especially if you have multiple phones...one number to rule them all!
I'm testing the theory right now, but on T-Mobile people with NOT-unlimited plans were assigning their GV number as one of their Fave 5 (Friends & Family on VZW) and then telling the phone to make and receive all calls via GV, in effect giving them unlimited minutes. Does anyone know for sure if this works on VZW or not? I've set mine up that way (900 minute plan), and my used minutes seem to suggest that it will, but there's no minutes being charged to F&F on my online billing page yet.
The only thing holding me back is the apparent lack of mms. Not that many people send me picture messages, but id like for them to at least get a rejection message saying its not possible on ny device so they know it wasnt received

I had a problem setting up voicemail for my verizon number to work with google voice and thought I would share how i corrected it.
I installed GV app and it said my carrier does not support automatic config.
I could view old messages I had but all new incoming calls went to my verizon VM
In order to route calls to GV VM I had to
Dial *71xxx-xxx-xxxx where xxx is your google voice number and hit call
it will beep a few time then hang up
next
Dial *90xxx-xxx-xxxx where xxx is your google voice number and hit call
it will beep a few time then hang up
next
Dial *92xxx-xxx-xxxx where xxx is your google voice number and hit call
it will beep a few time then hang up
next
This successfully routed all incoming calls to my google voice.
To deactivate call being routed you must do this
*73 call
*900 call
*920 call

Agreed. The crappy texting service that GV provides is the only thing keeping me from using it full time. MMS isn't the only issue.
I'm gonna drop the Verizon text add-on and give it a try. $70/mo for unlimited LTE is amazing!
Anything I should do to make sure im not being charged for texts? Just composing them within the voice app so I think I'm ok, just slightly paranoid.

I love the texting service from GV. It's my primary means of communicating with many people. There's so many advantages to it, including, in no particular order:
1) It's free. I turned off my SMS plan with AT&T last summer and have been 100% exclusive GV for texts since. I'm saving $20/month on my AT&T phone bill and selected NO text messages on my new Verizon account and I still have unlimited texts.
2) It works across multiple phones, platforms, devices all at the same time. When you send me a text to my GV number, it shows up on all four of my active cellphones, and on all of my computers and laptops that have GV web page open or the GV plugin (for Chrome). I can respond to them without even pulling my phone out of my pocket if I'm at the computer.
3) My texts are automatically backed up in the Google cloud, no need to worry about losing them or backing them up special on my phone as I swap ROMs or wipe data. And I can access them from any phone or web enabled computer.
4) I get all my messages, no one's ever complained that I didn't respond to something they sent that didn't come through. Seems very reliable to me after 15 on it.
As for MMS service, I think Steve Jobs was correct, albeit too far ahead of his time, when he said on the original iPhone that you didn't need MMS, just use email on a smartphone. It was a bit painful way back then (2007...seems so long ago in cell phone terms) at first, but once I trained all my contacts to just send via email I haven't missed any of the pics they want to share, and I'm not paying anything extra to the phone company for the privilege of getting a lower resolution image that's been scaled down to meet MMS limitations.
Thanks for the directions on setting up GV Voicemail, I had to google the instructions (go figure) and found the same info after a quick search. Tested it today and it's working like a champ.

I was told by the verizon customer service rep that call waiting is no longer available if you route GV to be the VM service. Anyone else successfully rig it so they can still maintain call waiting but use GV to intercept voicemails?
I have never had a problem with call waiting. Also when I set it up on my Thunderbolt I got the error message as well but when hit skip and went thru the rest of the steps, I checked to see if it was set in my phone settings and it was had a buddy call to test it and it worked just fine not really sure what happened to make i just work without haveing to complete the step where it makes you make the calls during set up but mine is working just fine.
Oh yeah guess I should mention I only you it for the visual voice mail though.

Question, how did you get GV to sync your GV on-line contacts list to your phone?
When I setup my phone it would not recognize my GV login and would tell me I didn't have a google account and to create a new one.
After creating a Gmail account it did recognized my phone and said you can use more than one google account login.
My GV login is working now, but I cant access my GV contacts unless I open a browser and login via the web access.
Any suggestions?

I figured out what was wrong with Google Voice. It doesn't work with the 747 area code because Gizmo numbers used to start with 747. Its the new overlay for the San Fernando Valley. 818 area code is running out of numbers. I snooped around my Verizon account page and I was able to change it to a 818 #.
All is right in the world.
Just switched to Verizon last week (got the Droid Charge) and have been trying to get GV working for my outbound calling. I keep getting an error (bad number when it tries dialing out, and have seen more than one bad number). I googled looking for help with it...found tons of 3 year old posts with vague answers...
Anyone else had this issue? Know how to resolve it? Everything else with GV works fine on my phone, just can't dial out.

Ok, I tried this and every time I do and call from another phone, there is nothing there for google voicemail. It says "please enter the number you would like to call followed by the # sign". What am I doing wrong? I dialed all 3 *numbers followed by the google voicemail number. I've tried this like 3-4 times. Help!

You need to login in to your google page and activate it, don't remember how but the help section on your google voice page has the steps

whenever I go to dial the x71xxx-xxx-xxxx i get a message saying "welcome to verizon wireless your call can not be completed as dialed.

Google Voice over Wifi

I recently jumped from a Captivate to an Epic 4g, of course that means AT&T to Sprint, but I didn't want to sell my Captivate I love it so...
I decided it was time to manufacture an @home landline. A couple hours of fiddling have resulted in my ability to use Google Voice for free inbound and outbound on a phone with no cell service, all just over wifi. I didn't know where to stick this... so here it is.
I found this method a little bit easier than using PBXes.org as honestly I didn't find an updated guide to setting up such a thing, and I wasn't following those guides very well anyways, but wanted a project that I could grind out in an evening.
Have an Android phone without current cell service? Or just have a geek gnawing on your insides? Follow along.
Step 1, Install Google Voice, Google Voice Call Back, and Sipdroid on your Android phone, reset the phone.
Step 2, Sign up at sip2sip.info for a SIP number.
Step 3 Register that sip info (found in your email now) at www.ipkall.com, also enter that same info into your Sipdroid app in the sip account settings on said phone.
Mandatory! Test call the number ipkall assigned you from another phone, your SipDroid should ring, answer it and verify. This way if the number is not valid in Google Voice, ipkall will assign you a new number the next time you signup. If you don't test call, you will get assigned the same number, over and over.
Step 4 (possible tedium) Find a number available from ipkall that isn't already sitting registered but expired in Google Voice, this may require registering and deleting your account at IPKall multiple times to get a valid number for use at Google Voice.
Note: Ipkall gives you only Washington state numbers, I recommend the (206) area codes as I tried 12 of the (425) area codes all of which failed as they had previously been registered in Google Voice. Don't worry about what state this number is in, this number is just a go-between, you will in the end be using your Google Voice number.
Step 5 Register the inbound only washington state number ipkall assigns (the one you found that works) into google voice so that it is your forwarding number.
Test call Google Voice number, your SipDroid should ring.
Step 6 Make sure Google Voice app is used for all outbound calls on your phone, I can't guarantee this is needed, but theres no point in not having this assigned as the phone is otherwise dead to the world.
Step 7 Make sure that Google Voice Call Back is intercepting all calls.
Outbound test call... call someone who cares.
The way Call Back works in this fun little project is GVCB will intercept all calls made, call you back from your google voice number... which in turn is forwarding to your ipkall number which is forwarding to your SIP number which will cause SIPdroid to ring your phone, then when you answer the "call back," it will immediately ring the number you dialed. All free, but perhaps a bit tedious for the average phone user. This circumvents the need for a mobile number associated with the phone being used.
Awesome! this is what I need! Pbxes doesn't seem to want to let me register, and I have almost zero signal at my new place. So, I got to step 3, tried calling the number and i get a recording telling me that my call can't be completed due to network error, error #101. Not sure what that means...
edit-nevermind, bad setup. Now I've got it to ring sipdroid, but I can't hear anything. Trying to verify the number with GV, but this lack of audio is troubling.
did you reboot the phone after getting sipdroid installed?
Also try playing around with the audio codecs, limiting it to a couple at a time to see which will work. I had the same problem at first but after one of these things the audio came in clear as a bell and havent had a problem since.

alright, i'll try rebooting and different codecs. Only problem now is that I don't have a second phone to test it with, so i'll be waiting until Monday to use the work phone.

Yes, the 2nd phone makes this process easier, otherwise you can't complete the test calls to the ipkall phone number, and you also can't test any changes or audio. I popped half a headset each on either side of my head one plugged into each phone and tested my setup that way, muting either phone and making sure audio was getting through to the opposite ear.
Edit: I also found that if i was testing the phone side by side with the phone used to call it, I had to practically yell to get my voice to register on my sipdroid. After muting the other phone, sound worked perfectly.
I am having trouble getting my Sipdroid to dial out. I have not had any issues with receiving calls either through the IPKall issued number, or through Google Voice redirected to the IPKall number.
Whenever I try to dial out using either IPKall or Google Voice it attempts to make the call and immediately ends.
Nevermind, I now realize the need/use of Google Voice Callback. Everything seems to be working just dandy now. Thanks!
Well, tried all of the different codecs, some don't allow the call to connect, but in the end, none of them allowed me to have audio either incoming or outgoing, so I guess this isn't going to work for me....can anyone that has this working, possibly with Cognition, give me their EXACT settings?

audio video I have all gains to medium (no audio if i increase or decrease any of these)
I have pcma pcmu and bv16 codecs enabled over wlan only, others disabled.
Wifi is set to never sleep and sipdroid itself is not allowed control over power.
All other settings are stock.
Again, I noticed that if the one of the lines was not muted, my sipdroid didn't give me audio back, but would still feed my test line audio.
So I call my googlevoice, I pickup, I talk into sipdroid and hear my voice on the test phone, I talk into testphone (without sipdroid muted) and I get no audio. I mute sipdroid and talk into test phone and sipdroid picks it up just fine. Same in reverse muting.

Trying calling 3333 on SipDroid. That will connect to sip2sip's audio test. If you do not hear any audio then there is something wrong with your settings to sip2sip.

Tried, no audio. What should I have for settings? here's what's there now-
server - proxy.sipthor.net
Domain - sip2sip.info
username or caller ID - not entered
port - 5060
protocol - udp
and then I've only checked off "Use WLAN".
I've tried TCP for the protocol, but then the program never logs in, dot just stays yellow.
These are the same settings I have except of course with my username
One thing we haven't considered is your port handling on whatever router you have going on or firewalls.

OK...so, CSsipsimple is nice, i like the interface more than Sipdroid, but it too lacks audio. Could this be a network problem? I've yet to try this on my home router, since I have no phone to test it with there. I guess I could test it over 3g?
edit- yep! 3g works...annoying. guess I can go ahead and set the rest up, and hope that I can get it to work at home. Called my GV number, Csipsimple rang, so it's routing correctly, I heard myself on both ends. Confused as to how GV call back works, and if I really need it.

If you are using a public or work wifi, most likely some ports will be blocked.

IPKall only allows incoming calls. So you would need to use Google Voice Callback to make outgoing calls. GVCB uses Google Voice to call your IPKall number. Then when you pickup (free incoming), GV will connect you to the number you want to call. When you configure GVBC, you need to set your callback number to your IPKall number.

Yea, I figured out how it worked, made some calls. There's a HUGE delay though, possibly around 1-1.5 seconds, and apparently my audio breaks up. I made some calls over wifi at home when this happened. Also, CSipsimple has trouble registering my SIP randomly, whereas Sipdroid always connects. I just need this to be a little more reliable. There's no way I can have a conversation with that much delay.
has anyone tried this over or virgin mobile? does this work over cell internet? because an optimus or intercept with this for $25 month with unlimited internet would be awesome. even better if you can get a modded epic or fascinate on virgin mobile. maybe the speeds would suck but it beats what i am paying right now.
even better, metro pcs has lte in my area (seriously, they beat verizon and att to that wtf?) and a phone that is like a galaxy s with a crappy screen and camera on it. still should be fast and cheap, just need a way to get around paying for talk minutes.

Google Voice - T-Mobile Prepaid

I just got T-Mobile's $30 pre-paid plan with 100 Min Talk + Unlimited texts & Web (5G @ 4G). Perfect plan for me on my HTC Sensation.
I use Google Voice... and that is my primary number. I don't give my T-Mobile number out to anyone, only the Google Voice number.
With T-Mobile Prepaid, you can't change the voicemail forwarding number... so if I decline a call, it goes into T-Mobile's voicemail instead of my GV mail. If I let the phone ring, and don't decline the call, it goes to GV after 4 rings.
I've been looking for a solution where GV will work under all circumstances, and think I understand one, but want to be sure before I do it...
If I call T-Mobile to disable their voicemail, I should be able to use only my Google Voice mail. Is that right? Will it go to GV if I decline a call?
Any confirmation, or additional advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had T-mobile prepay on a G1 last year. When i found Google Voice, I had wanted to do what you are looking to do. I called T-Mobile and asked them they told me even if i disabled my voice mail the phone would just ring and ring. Never giving the option for Google Voice voice mail to kick in.
Currently I have a regular Sprint account and want to keep both numbers but use the Google Voice voice mail. I had set it up but it told me one of the numbers would have to be deleted if i continued. Basically i want to give random people and bill collectors google voice. Then save my real number for people closer to me.

I'm not sure that's right though. If I decline the call... it might still continue to ring a couple more times on their end, but GV kicks in after 20 seconds... doesn't it?

I found this out the hard way too. It was very disappointing. I read in a couple forums that people called T-Mobile support and asked for their tier 2 support who could manually override the forwarding numbers. Unfortunately, when I tried it, the support agent said that forwarding wasn't possible under the prepaid plans. I still wonder how it was possible that others reported having success. Will there ever be a fix for us T-Mobile prepaid / Google Voice users?

If I disable T-Mobile voicemail on the phone. Wouldn't Google Voice pick up the call after a certain number of seconds?
Rather than just keep ringing, GV would answer it and play the VM message... wouldn't it?

Ok, I called CS and had them de-activate my voicemail on my prepaid voice service.
If you call my tmobile # directly, and the device is on, it rings for 30 seconds, then goes into tmobile voicemail system asking for a #. If the device is off, it goes directly into the tmobile voicemail system asking for a #.
If you call my google voice, it rings for 30 seconds whether the device is on or not, then goes into google voicemail.
This works for what I need, and I hope it answers a question or two for others.
Also, the tech support guy said it can take a couple hours to go through, but it worked for me within a minute. The text msg I received however, said something about changing my service to monthy 4G, and I had to go make a payment. He said to ignore that, and it appears he was right, as my account still says monthy prepaid voice on mytmobile.com.
Somehow, I think the tmobile voicemail system doesn't send a pickup signal unless it's going into a mailbox. Or, maybe the Google guys programmed their end to know about this non-answer, and ignores it.
Ok so i am on the same plan and here is what I got so far after having them turn off the VM feature. You can call Tmobile customer care free using *8646.
1)If Tmobile Phone number is called calls will either continue to ring or will get a busy signal once decline/text response is initiated
2) If GV number is called, phone will ring 5 times regardless of decline/text and will go to GV VM.

This also works to get Google Voice (GV) voicemail from Straight Talk if you are using their T-Mobile SIM card. For example, using the lovely cyanogenmod7 on my rooted old Motorola MB200, here are the steps I took:
I did not call customer service to get them to turn off my Straight Talk/ T-Mobile voicemail, since I don't think I'll need to.
In your cell phone (not GV)'s contacts list or address book, add a new contact with your Straight Talk/T-mobile mobile number (NOT your GV number).
While adding this new contact, select the Option to send your incoming calls for this contact straight to voicemail.
Call Settings > Voicemail Settings > Write down this number, and then change it to your new GV number.
I also UNchecked the LED voicemail notification box (so I won't even KNOW if my phone tries to tell me about Straight Talk/ T-Mobile voicemails).

For me, on cyanogenmod7, I stopped getting T-Mobile/StraightTalk voicemail notifcations by UNchecking the box at: Settings > Call Settings > Other Call Settings "Voicemail notifications".

It works, but as soon as you cycle power on your phone you loose the settings. At least I did on my Galaxy Nexus

Hmm, doesn't work for me, on ICS, Tmo $30 prepaid, galaxy s2.
Under call settings, voicemail service ... doesn't list a number, nothing to change.
In call, settings, there IS a "call forwarding" option for unanswered calls, with tmo voicemail number in it, but, I can't change this number, keeps saying network error when I try.
Anyone got this to work with ICS?

I'm on T-Mobile's Monthly 4G as well. What worked for me is I went into my phone settings and set the voicemail service to "my carrier" and the voicemail number to my Google Voice number. When I get a voicemail message I receive an SMS notification. Then I just dial my GV number and listen to the voicemail. This works if I decline the call or let it ring through. Seems to be an adequate solution for me.

What "voicemail number" where? There doesn't seem to be such an option in ICS, Samsung Galaxy SII, under "call settings -> voicemail".

oh wow I am glad I found this thread. I just switched to ST and from darkside to CM9 and now I cannot get GV to work anymore. Also you are correct there is no voicemail number in CM9 only call forward options which fail if you try to change them. Also why is there no call settings from the Settings menu, you can only get there from the Phone app lol. This really sucks because I am liking CM9 but need google voice so may have to go back to the darkside lol.
I take that back you can change the number but when you try changing the service from carrier to GV you get forwarding number change unsuccessful.

No it's ICS. I found out Tmobile prepaid doesn't allow call forwarding so GV doesn't work so that's why there is the work around in this thread except I cannot get it to work.

Just to be clear .... Google Voice works just fine, with a VOIP program (grooveip, talkatone, etc.) you can make calls over the wireless data plan, or use google voice straight on the tmo cell minutes.
The issue ... by default .....
1) calls to your tmo cell number get answered by your tmo voicemail, NOT by google voice mail.
2) Calls to your google voice, if forwarded to your cell number, ALSO get answered by your tmo voicemail.
So google voice works great and fine. There is an issue only if you want to use google VOICEMAIL ......
There are two scenarios .....
1) You ONLY want to use your google voice NUMBER, you never want to use your tomo number (or at least don't want to get voicemails if someone calls your tomo cell number.
The solution here is to simply turn off your tmo voicemail, and all calls to your google number will be answered on google voicemail if you don't pick up, and all calls to your tmo cell number will go to /dev/null (nowhere) if you don't pick up. BUT, if you're not giving anyone your tmo number,you don't care.
2) You want to use your google voicemail for google number calls, and you DO want to use tmo number and to have google voicemail, work for your tmo cell number i.e. you want to have two active numbers each going to google voicemail.
Well you can't. At least that's what we think for ICS ...
Post earlier in this thread shows a technique that might work on gingerbread, but, with ICS, doesn't seem to be anyway to forward the tmo voicemail number to google voice.
Please someone post back if they figure out a way to get this to work.

Guess I should have clarified I was only trying to get it for VM's. GV calls, sip etc all work fine for me.

[Q] Call out with Google Voice

I looked around but couldn't find a thread on this problem.
This is my first Android phone (AT&T version), previously I had a 3GS, and I'm having trouble getting Google Voice sorted. I set up voicemail forwarding as the two thread here suggest, but I can't seem to get calling out working right. If I go into the GV app I can call people who've called me/are starred/left messages etc and it will call with my GV number, but I can't call anyone else with that number. I think I have the phone set to use GV for all calls, but it still uses my cell number if I use the phone dialer. Is there a way to/can I set it up so calls I make come from the GV number?
With the 3GS I just used the GV app for everything and that worked since my calls came from the right number, but as far as I can tell I need to use the phone app to call out with this?

I feel like the least technologically savvy person in the world, but I re-installed the app, restarted, and now it seems to be working.
It had been set to use google voice for all calls, but for whatever reason calls were not coming through that way.
To follow that up. Are texts managed the same way, or do I need to open the GV app to send them?
Use the GV app for texts via GV. Or you can use any other SMS app with the GV-provided phone numbers that it assigns to people that call/text you. As an example, via GV you would normally see a text from Person. If you looked in Messages or Go SMS, it would be Person - +1XXX-XXX-XXX - text. If you use that number to text Person, they will receive it as if it came from your GV #, not your cell #.
