N9005 Battery life SOLVED once and for all - Galaxy Note 3 General

That's right, I have solved the unsolvable
I had very poor battery life, worse than on my old Note 2 (and I was on custom ROM and kernel, cpu running 1,92 Ghz and GPU highly OCed)
I tried stoping Samsung Apps, Unified Demon(EUR), turning BT, GPS off, brighteness down
I tried deleting cache partition
I tried Factory Wipe + deleting cache partition
I tried GSAM app and Snapdragon BatteryGuru
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING worked...
System Android + Core System was always draining battery the most
and then I tried to flash newer ROM with ODIN and faild miserabely (briked the phone LOL :silly: it was turning on only to Download Mode ) then tried different ROM and faild again
Lastly :fingers-crossed: I flashd the same ROM I was on before which is: N9005XXUGBOB6 and GAME ON, SCORE, WIN BOOM all is fine in the universe again and battery is lasting as it should last !!! :victory:
OK the important thing here (I think) is to flash the ROM by ODIN. Previously Lollipop was installed by OTA and IMHO it is somehow buggy method and screwing the battery life.
Enjoy and let me know if it worked for you too.

Im afraid you havent told us anything new. I remember D4 of 4.4.2 being the most battery efficient release, but no release has been the same for me battery wise. There are releases where i got 2 days of battery with 4 hour screen time, and a single day with 2 hour screen time.
We never know wtf happens on those sammy roms tbh. Root seems to help in a few cases, but that's not a solution for all of us.

I hope I fully understood all your steps and will try this myself today^^ Thanks anyway for sharing your experience!

You don't need to take all the steps I just wrote that for the story.
Just download the same rom which is already on your phone from sammobile.com and flash it via Odin and that's it.

[Completed] My Note 5 Extreme Battery Drain on Marshmallow and Can't Downgrade to Lollipop

I been having an awful battery life....my android OS is usually 30-50 when idle and android OS 100% when fully charged.
I didn't do anything with the phone for 3 hours and yet it drained 30% battery. I try downgrade back to lollipop but it turns out that the new software update restricted me from downgrading the software. The reasons are unknown to me. Having VoLTE on doesn't do much battery drain on my other xiome phone.
I disabled most bloatware using PRO DISABLER TOOL and disable location and location history. My display is set to 50% all day without turning on the auto brightness but still battery lost when idle.
When i try to downgrade to lollipop, odin failed and the error was hidden.img. I search for solution on the web. Using method of extracting and deleting the hidden.img before i flash again but still failed. I'm in a loop right now dealing with this software issue.
I'm using a Malaysia Carrier XME built. Galaxy Note 5 Duos (SM-N9208)
I really need help in :
1) can I downgrade back to lollipop and if can, HOW ?
2) if i can't downgrade back, can you guys help me in dealing my battery problem.
Thank for helping me and other people who has the same problem as me...TQ XDA

Greetings and welcome to assist. The error message from odin is because you are trying to install a firmware from a different carrier, the csc file is probably too big which means eithet use a fitmware with a pit file included or try and find a firmware for the carrier the phone was shipped with.
Too fix the battery drain I would first try wiping cache and davlik/art cache and if that didnt work factory reset. You could also install better battery stats and see what is causing the drain, why not create an account and ask here

Android os huge battery drain over night

I have a rooted s6 with custom recovery(TWRP) and custom rom(THE GRIFFIN) and my phone is draining really fast.
U can see in the picture that i attached below that at 1AM the phone was at 100% and i left it aside cz i went to sleep, i woke up at 7:40AM and the phone was at 53% and all the drain was because of ANDROID OS.
What should i do??
Try a clean flash of that ROM. (you will lose all data, so make a backup)
Also you can try Noble Nougat Experience... i'm experiencing 4,5h/5h screen on time & 3% battery drain over night.

Back on Stock Nougat and very happy

After several weeks of battling terrible battery drain, lag and sluggish performance I am back on Stock Nougat, build number NPJS25.93-14-8. With moderate use, my battery is now averaging less than 2% per hour ( < 1% while sleeping), where on the custom ROM of choice it was running over 5% per hour, even while sleeping. I tried every trick and tweak I could find and Better Battery Stats didn't show anything that could account for the high drain. I even tried a different ROM to no avail. So I threw in the towel, returned to stock, and did the latest OTA updates. I am now running rooted with ElementalX kernel 1.04 and I couldn't be more pleases with the overall performance and battery life.
I am sure it was something I missed but I got tired of spending hours trying to get back to the original performance and battery life the custom ROM had several weeks ago. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

None of STOCK ROM or OTA updates can be flashed/updated by TWRP, you need to be on stock recovery as well everything stock (unmodified system, boot and all).
I faced this problem too, but I fixed mostly of the battery drain tweaking the kernel with the ElementalX app to ~0,80/h. I had to set the little cores working like big cores do, because all little cores and one big were in use always; and applied LightingBlade profile.

In order to use the OTA path you have to be on stock recovery, boot and kernel, not on TWRP. Otherwise you get the error that you experienced.

I went that path but it didn't seem to help much. Besides, I am happy with this stock setup. It is much better than when I was on Marshmallow stock and went over to custom ROMs. I can do anything I want to do and install any app I desire to use. Good performance, great battery life, and customizable as much as I want. No need to be on custom.

Instead of asking questions that have been answered numerous times (ad nauseam) you should try reading through the forums. I realize you are a raw noob, but if you wanted to learn Calculus, would you ask a bunch of questions without doing any reading and studying? It's no different when you are modifying your smart phone.
Here is a link to a thread that will guide you to rooting stock Nougat. It works for all versions of stock Nougat.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...de-root-moto-g4-plus-supersu-android-t3587918
But don't do anything until you have read through the procedures and fully understand. Above all, make a backup of your system from TWRP before you do anything else.

Very true.
Also try LightningBlade tunables(v 1.2.3 ; the newer version does not work that well for me..).
Stock rom provides the best balance between Performance and Battery life.

If you're rooting on stock Nougat, you must have a custom kernel flashed (or used the temporary dm-verity disabler on the stock kernel) before you root. Else, without the mentioned modifications, you'll trip the anti-rooting protection built into the stock kernel, and you'll have bootloops unless you reflash your stock ROM as you experienced.
Easiest way, as per the guide is to:
Flash/boot TWRP.
Backup.
Flash ElementalX or vegito (any custom kernel will do, as these kernels do not have the anti-rooting protection).
Reboot to test.
Boot back to TWRP
Flash SuperSU v2.79 or newer, or magisk 13 or newer
Reboot.
You should be rooted, on stock, and if you've flashed magisk, Safetynet should be working It's working well on NPJS25.93-14-8 and it's stable. Granted, a few apps now seem to detect root/magisk (and fail to download/update from the Play Store, with an error 0), but nothing that a sideload from a legitimate source wouldn't solve...

Hi, sorry for ask, do you know where can i find the temporary dm-verity disabler?
I tried with a script named "no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1" (this works for the G5 Plus 'Potter') but i haven't had any success. Even i unpacked the stock boot.img and i tried to manually patch it, but i failed here too.
Honestly i would like to test the stock kernel, because i never used it, i am always attached to flashing EX to get root access. Thank you in advance.

I don't know if this will still work on later builds than the November/December 2016 builds, but here's the kernel with dm-verity disabled: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...t-how-to-root-n-firmware-npj25-93-11-t3532556 Seems to cause bootloops though on the later builds however
Strictly speaking, I misspoke - it's not really a dm-verity disabler, more a stock kernel with dm-verity disabled. I think EX kernel is still the more stable and more reliable option. It would be nice to be able to root the stock kernel though...

Oh, i see, thanks for your response. I'll look into it to see how he did to by-pass the dm verity, and try to modify the last boot.img that we have.
I mentioned earlier in this thread about getting Error 0 whilst updating apps in Google Play. As it turns out, thanks to this tip here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73552496&postcount=57 it appears to be an error with permissions on the /data/media partition.
I managed to fix it with osm0sis' script:
Download from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239421 the sdcard Fix Permissions script http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3761904&d=1464187934
You may wish to back up your data with TWRP or ensure you have your photos and videos somewhere safe prior to flashing this.
Reboot to TWRP and backup your device.
Flash the above script.zip in TWRP and wait for it to complete. (it should be fixing the permissions in /data/media)
Reboot and you should be able to download/update apps again from Google Play afterwards. You may have to uninstall the app and re-install the app if it keeps failing.
I've got this working on a XT1642 running June 2017 stock ROM, rooted with magisk 13.3 and apps including Snapchat and Google Chrome update without issue now.

Useful info, this happened to me a couple of days ago. I thought it was something related to the integrated Chrome WebView in conflict with the system WebView, because it only happened when i tried to update Chrome, or any of his variants (dev, beta, canary, etc). Thanks.

Tab2 constant high GPU speed

Hi,
the tablet worked very well with all apps until august 2017. Suddenly everything became very slow.
Installed Trepn. CPU speed was on max even in idle.
Did a factory reset, and installed Trepn. CPU speed was still on max even on idle.
I have tried to do a root with Odin3, but I does not seem to resolve the problem.
I am of the Gopher-generation, but Android is way beyond my understanding.
If anyone on this forum helps me to get my Tab2 to work as it did a year ago I will donate $ 50 to a non-profit organisation.

Is there a link for helping to return the tab2 to stock with Odin. When I have searched it gets confusing which link to use for the sim version tab2 UK model. Cheers

Since Android 8.0 its lagging

Hey guys. Two days before i updated my phone manually via ODIN on a german version G930FDBT2ERG2_DBT.
So i just let Google and Samsung restore all my stuff. Then i installed TWRP and root via the no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip and magisk v16.0.
After that i installed XPosed via the XPosed Installer app. I think since i did that or maybe before, every app needs hours to start and lags.
e.g. opening of Snapchat. Like it's closing so hard in background, that all services need to restart.
Instagram and OneDrive are shown many time as stopped working and i don't know why. Maybe Instagram caused by XInsta?
Okay i recognized OneDrive isn't even working anymore. Was already on Android 7 a problem. Does not seem to be compatible to something else.
You have any ideas or need any information? Let me know
try a factory reset. Personally, I use a modified stock rom (light rom) and it is very stale and very fast.

Antutu Benchmark gives me 164336 points, so it seems literally to be normally, but i know all loading times of Snapchat and Instagram and so on are so much longer.
I will try to flash it again and to start clean. Just the copying of the WhatsApp folder needs so much time.
So I'm asking again. Nobody else got problems? I still dont get the data mount error fixed, because when I install Magisk it's broke again and my whole phone seems to lag. I dont know if it's because of my Xposed modules or Magisk modules. But for example with the update everythings goes slower even if Antutu says something else. Snapchat needs years to start. Is it cause of dual messenger? But I don't think so. Or when i'm in the car and using Google Maps and Poweramp and tapping skip on my car radio for skipping in bluetooth there is a delay of 20 seconds sometimes so wtf.
Any speedups for S7 or Android 8 on S7???

Tgp kernel gives a good battery life ans smooth UI.
If you didn't flashed a kernel, you need to wipe data partition by writing ''yes''
And you will Lost all you data, so you need to save you data on external storage, hard Drive or computer.

If on stock then resources being consumed with bloat. If issues began around installation of xposed wouldn't it make sense to uninstall modules and xposed and see if improved over the next day? Restoring apps and data and rooting and moding is a lot of stress on device all at once, then it gets so warm it starts to go glitch. I've been there too. Best thing is to let it sit 30-60 min after set up finishes to cool off. Reboot too once restored data completes.
Almost makes me miss the rip out and replace with cool fully charged battery days of my S4 [emoji91]
