Sprint spark speeds - wow - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

I'm consistently getting 65 to 75 mbps. Huge improvement from the wimax and initial iteration of lte. What's are your speeds like? Post a screenshot if possible!

Awesome. Sprint was just named the fastest national carrier at this time.

Fast but not as fast as you guys are getting.

Download Signal Check. It will show you what band you're on.

Yea I'm getting some great speeds in my bedroom....got to say I am happy with sprints network and the note 5!!!

Speeds are really good, they enabled the 2nd carrier on band 41.

Jbad and geek, those speeds are sick... Definitely worth the wait, imho...

Sprint is NOT a national carrier.
I got ZERO sprint signal driving down the main highway in South Dakota.
Luckily I took my Verizon company phone, had LTE almost everywhere.
I guess you get what you pay for with sprint, they are $30 cheaper a month.

There are several areas in the south where Verizon doesn't pickup at all, so I guess they don't qualify as a national carrier either. And I believe sprint was named the fastest national carrier in Dayton, Ohio. Verizon was named overall fastest network, if I'm not mistaken, but my sprint speeds make my uverse look like dial up. Sprint still has a way to go, as far as reliable coverage, nationwide, but I'm glad to see that they are finally making positive upgrades to their networks.

I barely get 3g and was told by sprint that i pay to have "access" to there network. ...there are no guarantee to service. .....abs after i threat a complaint to better business Bureau after months of ****ty service and horrible customer service .... on top of them getting caught in a lie about cell towers being down when they were not .... they gave me back what i paid into my previous device and cleared the balance and gave me the phone "note edge" and gave me 100 dollars credit.... and gave me a extra line with free upgrades for both i got s note 5 still horrible signal but i can still upgrade again... so if your service is bad and you have the time to complain. ...do it but you have to be smart on your replies because honestly they are not.

This speed test was on band 41.
---------- Post added at 06:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:19 PM ----------
Here is more on band 41 in my area.

Sorry, there is NO comparison between Verizon, which may have a few holes in coverage, to SPRINT which has almost no coverage besides Roaming on the Verizon voice network in most states west of the Mississippi.
I'm sorry, but they don't have "holes", they have half the USA uncovered compared to Verizon, which has 4g in twice the area of sprint.
If you're out west, sprint is almost useless unless you stuck to the towns.

You are correct, but I wasn't comparing their coverage areas, just stating the fact that all carriers have holes in their coverage, and that doesn't disqualify one from being a national carrier. Sprint works fine for my location and to where I travel, but may not for others. I have used both carriers, and although Verizon has a much larger network, the difference in cost between the 2 led me to stay with sprint. To each his own....

I'm going to be in a Spark town this weekend, will be running test's to see what they come up to on speeds. My town has 4G but it's only one portion of it. City is stingy with letting towers in-town so they are mostly all circling the town.

Ok. I just think a "national carrier" should have nation wide coverage. not skip entire states.
I was very disapointed after driving 4 hrs in south dakota to get no data. And when i researched it after the fact was shocked at how much verizon lte there was and sprint had absolutely nothing.
You are correct, you get what you pay for i guess..

AT&T 3G VS T-Mobile 3G (Funny/True story)!

I was at the mall earlier with my buddy and he wanted to go to the T-Mobile store and ask a few questions.... I ended up talking to the store owner about random Android/Cell phone bs.
He pulled out a Nexus S (Unrooted/No ROM) and was explaining how T-Mobile 3G was so amazing. So he showed me his SpeedTest app results and they were around 1.44 down and he had one test that hit 2.15 I think.
So I downloaded the Speedtest app on my AT&T Samsung Captivate (Rooted/Serendipity 2.0) and tested. I got 2.23 and my upload annihilated his (don't remember number but it was high.)
He was speechless. Lol!
Yeah.....as long as you live in one of the locations deemed worthy of 3g by at&t. Sadly their promise of 3g here by the end of the year was yet another empty one.

You try hitting them up for a microcell? I have heard if some getting them to give them one due to poor service.
I'm actually sick of people complaining about att speeds since everyone is talking about 4G this 4G that. I know topic says 3G but still lol...
ATT gets 4.2-5Mbps down in my area and 1.7Mbps up. No other carrier I've seen here has been close sprint vzw etc get 100KBps... tops no higher.
Look at sprint's 4G its as fast as ATT's 3G. Vzw laptops only atm. TMo who has even heard of them in my area... they r big in Texas I know but nation wide??? I give props to tmo for using gsm like att so I know their speeds got to be up to par but I look at coverage maps and say really??
But anyway that's just my 2cents I pay for 10Mbps cable and my phone beats my computers speed tests... its sad that att wireless speeds are faster then our cable provider in my area...

Nice!!! Must be happy, haha
Is there a specific AT&T group where I can request a femtocell? I tried at the local store and with the marketing dept, and they both said no. I have 6 AT&T phones -- 4 on a family plan and 2 more on corporate contracts. There is no signal at my house -- in a low area with only 1 tower in town. I can get 3G if I drive about 1.5 miles, but cannot keep a call connected at home. Seems like I would be a perfect customer for a femtocell, but I must not be talking to the right people. Without a signal solution, I am definitely going to try another carrier.

Post your 4G LTE speed tests on your S4!

Post a screen shot of your LTE speedtest and location!!! Let's see AT&T's blazing fast LTE. Will post mine one I get my S4.

Yeah Sprint is a joke. What's nice about AT&T is when you step outside an LTE area you have H+ to fall back on. I can easily pull 7-10 mbps down on HSPA+.
I'm also very fortunate to still have unlimited data on AT&T. With these blazing LTE results, I am sure some will go through their data in a day or two.
Can I ask which data plan you are on?

That's hilarious. Coming from a WiMax phone, 7-10 Mbps was my max on WiMax. I know their 4G LTE will be better, but damn... they released their press release for my market back last October and there's still no movement on it 7 months later. I got tired of waiting (because they don't sell WiMax phones anymore), so I'd have to drop to their terrible 1Mbps 3G.
Well, I knew that would be a downfall (I opted for the 3 Gig plan). I could always bump up to the 5G (I think) plan for $15 more. Luckily my work & house has good broadband, so that should tide me over for the most part. If I really needed to stream something, my wife has the Unlimited Data still and I could always use hers.

GSM is the superior technology which allows for H+. As much as I have been craving T-Mobile lately, I will be sticking with AT&T. Sprint and T-Mobile are crap carriers in the process of upgrading all their existing cell sites to compete with the big boys. Until that is done, I kinda feel sorry for their smartphone subscribers.

Yeah... I'm going to be another statistic for the next quarter: http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/24/sprint-earnings-q1-2013/ It's sad. I guess loyalty only gets you so far until you start lagging behind your competitors. I was with them for 13 years.
Very happy with my new service though. The most important thing is that I have cell signal in my home and work... basically in buildings. Sprint's coverage was so bad indoors, it would zap my battery trying to look for cell service constantly.

If you're using Straight Talk, I'd say the new AT&T prepaid is worth switching to

If you haven't heard, AT&T just enabled LTE on their pre-paid network. The plan is 2GB with unlimited talk/text for $60 flat. I just got it and I'm pretty damn glad that I decided to switch. I ported over hte number from Straight Talk. I got HSPA speeds on ST and downloaded at like 7mbps. Now, I can get 30mbps and maybe more. I have only tried a few speed tests. In my home, I only get like 14mbps, which is still manageable

why you you go on a limited plan? ST still has unlimited data. and its like 50 bucks. saving 10 dollars and unlimited data seem way better than getting my download faster. at the end you still get the download.
It sounds like the OP was interested in speed. I can add that ST's bizarro policy on data limit and their willingness to cancel a number for a violation of an unstated data limit makes ATT prepaid safer if you really have to keep your phone number.

Straight talk isn't really unlimited. If you go over 2gb, they will throttle your speed. I never went over 2gb though so that's why I went with a limited plan. I just prefer having the faster speeds. If I have an LTE phone, might as well get LTE

Thiw would be perfect for my uncle...quick question, when switching to go phone do you have to get one of their phones or could you use an existing one you already own? I went to their website and it said to purchase a phone or something like that to get started with the plan...

We always brought our own phones to AT&T Go-Phone without any issues before we switched to Straight Talk.
I think straight talk is still the best deal in town for an at&t phone. The hspa data speeds are great in most places and the price is very good for unlimited talk and text and I think they only allow 1.2 gb's of data but that's still a lot. It's about $48 with taxes and fees. My s4 is on it.

Is the coverage any different between pre-pay AT&T and post-pay AT&T?
Before moving to AT&T postpaid, I had a Galaxy S720C on ST with Verizon. Coverage was native towers only and no roaming (I knew that going in). VZW's pre-pay service doesn't include roaming either.
That was one reason I switched from ST (VZW) to AT&T post paid. And I went from 3 lines of service to 4 lines of service which made ST nearly $200/month for 3g non-roaming service. Otherwise, I had no complaints about the service from ST that they weren't able to fix.

I remember looking into it before I left ST. At that time, I think ST and AT&T were no longer working together. Now on the AT&T pre-paid side, I've never investigated to learn if there are any differences in the coverage. But again, I know that with Verizon, there is a difference and there are maps that show pre-pay and post pay coverage.
When you zoom in and reconfigure/refresh the maps you can see some differences.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/support/coverage-locator
http://www.att.com/maps/wireless-coverage.html
Those maps are so subject to interpretation that I'm not sure any conclusions can be drawn by looking at them. I'm not sure the providers want us to know either.

But hundreds of straight talk users have reported data caps and being throttled...from my understanding its nit an official data cap, so technically it doesnt exist...however for many users after going iver 2gb they become throttled...some even get terminated for going even higher, yet others can go through much much more and never be throttled...its a hit or miss I guess

Do you mind giving some more detail on the throttling? I was on ST before GoPhone and i never used over 2GB but I was wondering how it worked. What were your speeds before/after throttling? I'm guessing you were on the HSPA before, and maybe 2G after... was it AT&T or T-Mobile?
GoPhone seems to be a good plan so far for me. The LTE seems a lot more consistent than the HSPA I was getting through ST as far as speeds, AND constant connectivity. I haven't found any rough spots on the LTE so far, but I always found areas where the HSPA connection would fade in/out when I was on ST.

Well straight talk (AT&T) can be bullish*t sometimes. A few months ago I had a smartphone, can't remember which one honestly. Anyways, i sold it and because I had ordered another smartphone but while I was waiting for the new phone to arrive I was using an old flip phone. So I wasn't using any data at all for a couple of weeks. When I got the new phone and set up the apn and everything, my data speeds were super slow, 0.25 mbps max. I called straight talk to ask them what's up, they said that I was throttled because I was using too much data which wasn't true because I was using a flip phone for more than 2 weeks.
When they throttled you it's 0.25 mbps, they go hard on you. Besides lately my data has been very inconsistent (generally it's between 2-6mbps but it's so inconsistent, sometimes I wait 60s for tapatalk to load) and I live in Maryland where coverage is usually excellent. So now I'm going to switch to go phone this weekend and enjoy some LTE. I can't wait. In my opinion it is totally worth the extra 10+ bucks.

Worst 4G speeds in the USA?

Which region has the very worst Verizon 4g network speeds?? I'm betting it's right here in Western New York. Can anyone top this?

Pulling 5.83 down here. But with full signal, so pretty close.

I used to often get 0.5-0.6 at peak hours when I worked in the mall (Aurora, IL), but it is a mall so there's that.

I've had sub 2Mb before, but that was on my GNex. I'm in NE Ohio. On my M8 I've seen speeds up in the 30-40's, and speeds down to ~5-6 Mb. I haven't really paid attention to see if it's related to what area I'm in, or the time of day, or what. But it can fluctuate a lot, obviously.
Past several days I've had around .2-.6 down at home. Elsewhere its 45-55 down though. I'm in south Dayton, OH.
Just an educated thought here.. but if they enabled ~700mhz AWS bands at all in the area you live in... it could be interference caused by local cable tv signals. If the cable signals in your area are in any way shape or form leaking.. it will cause problems. These frequencies now overlap.

Before AWS NYC and metro NJ...especially Newark NJ were under 1 meg down during peak hours
Now it's ridiculously fast.
Although I have noticed a slight improve since XLTE being released,
upstate NY here
just ran test
8.59mb down
10.45mb up
I have gotten fast speeds at the UB south campus. 29 down, 10 up. That was with 4 bars showing. Everywhere else, its still slow.

Wow. Looks like I'll feel like I'm back with Sprint when I go to new York this August for vacation. Some places here in California I pull over 100 down. But usually never less than 20 in worse areas. I think the east coast is just too crowded with buildings to get a good signal. The heavily populated areas don't help either

Has anyone actually found a way to determine the current band we're connected to without guessing by the speeds?

Got a 1.61 up and a 1.52 down yesterday. I am almost always on WiFi, I turned off WiFi just to run the test and I was shocked as you might guess!
I'm in Phoenix, Arizona.
Charging a monthly fee for a feature we can't really use. Interesting business model.

I just measured a half a megabit. Verizon sucks donkey schlong with there saturated network. I am in shelby mi. I tested 3g and its way faster

Ever since they turned on 4G in my area, Blackstone, Virginia, the network has sucked. I use to have full 3G everywhere and now it is spotty 3G and rarely 4G mostly 1x in the house . Yet they seem to show no network issues in my area, even though everyone complains.
In my area (Santa Clara) I usually get 2.5mbps.
Buuuuut I'll take that over sprints .02mbps I used to get here....

They must be doing major network work. Last few days at work near Long Beach, CA I'm lucky to get 2-3 bars 3G, sometimes 1 bar 4G. I use to get 2-4 bars 4G all over work since day one this phone came out. Last 5 days have been craps service! Checked online and many confirm this so not just me. People say they call customer service to only get the run around so who the hell knows what's really going on?
I swear, leaving AT&T for Verizon so I could get this device was the biggest mistake. Never had AT&T issues with network and Verizon acts like their the best in the country! Best at wasting money on T.V. ads instead of investing it in their network I guess. Damn false hope switching to Verizon.

What carrier?
I'm in Phoenix, Arizona and I get 35.59 down and 14.34 up (102ms) in 85302 and 20.95 down and 11.50 up (59ms) in 85301. Weird how down south I'm getting slower speeds but better latency...
I'll have to test other parts of the Metro Area...I'm going to be around Sun City next week so we'll see what speeds the oldies are getting

Verizon, of course.
Just got .74 mbps down and .21 mbps up, that's on 3g.
Rebooted, got .21 mbps down and .25 mbps up.
When I rebooted it did show LTE for a second or two before dropping back to 3g.
I'm not complaining, I get NO SIGNAL at all in my house with T-Mobile!
No wonder I'm always on WiFi! <G>
Got it to show LTE! 2.02 down, 1.01 up.
Pathetic.

Should I switch to Sprint?

OK guys so I'm currently with Verizon and my bill for 3 lines usually is $236 including insurance for 2 phone (8bucks each) 10 gigs and a constant $5 dollar late fee (cell phone bill falls on the same check as rent) now with sprint offering to slash 50% off any competitors price I'm really leaning towards sprints note 5. (Mainly for root purposes and a much cheaper bill) Now the only thing holding me back is "reliability" I live in Wildomar Ca, pretty much Temecula Ca, and the coverage map on sprints website says it's good coverage I'd rather have some input from a real person who uses their network around my area. Does anyone here live near this area who can shed some light on their experience with sprints network in or near this area?

I'm not trusting the accuracy of the sprint coverage map at all.

Here is my 1 bar daily average
I think this site has a much more accurate map of the sprint network.
The speeds I'm averaging are slower than dial up from 1993 both up and down. But if i pop in a t-mobile sim it's faster than my t-mobile note 3. So i blame sprint network not the phone.
Sprints speeds are meh

No chance you are even in San Diego County. That screenshots so hot it must have been burning a hole in your pocket for almost 4 hours and 20 minutes
I pay about $250 on 5 lines after Employee discount. I also have a legacy plan. Customer Service sucks. Techs are idiots. However, the actual service is quite excellent. Band 41 LTE is nice when I land on a tower.
I find Sprint Customer service to be ok. Service has gotten better. There are places where the other three carriers will get sata but Sprint doesn't have data. There is the flip side too where Sprint has data and Verizon or T-Mobile doesnt.
If they are offering the 50% off, might be worth a try. You can always quit Sprint if you don't like it.

Almost 100mbps up and 14mbps down is meh on a cell network? Yeah, it's no Google Fiber, but 100mbps for a cell network is better than "meh".

My bad
But to OP, in terms of reliability, Sprint is changing their return/exchange policy for new lines of service to 28 days. That means you have 28 days AFTER the day of the sale to decide whether or not if you want to stay with sprint with your plan 50% off (note that these are only CURRENT plans from TMo/VZW/ATT). You do have the option of picking which plan you want from that carrier (ie: if you want more data, you're not locked into your current data rate plan), which has changed since Cut Your Rate Plan in Half - where you only had the option of your current rate plan or Sprint's plans.
I would see if you can get an response from someone locally. Cause they would give you a better response if its worth it or not. And even before you leave i would see what Verizon is willing to offer before you leave them completely. They might work in some good deals for you. Last thing you want to do is come to sprint and suffer that horror they call data. I barely pull down 5gb in my area. Planning to switch to ATT soon.

That sounds like a very case by case situation. I never have a problem roaming, I only have a problem with wifi calling - standard handoff not working like it should sometimes.
