[ Q ] will S6 bought from the Samsung Philippines work with T-Mobile? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I forgot to get the actual model number but I guess it's the international version? In any case, does anybody have an actual experience of bringing an unlocked S6 bought directly from Samsung to t-mobile? I'm trying to figure that out. Don't want to get back to the states and find out it doesn't fully work on some/all T-Mobile bands.

Ah never mind, I found it. It is sm-g920fd. Should have used searched first. Looks like it will work with T-Mobile, just incase anybody reading this is searching too.

Just Got Galaxy Note Edge through ebay(Docomo) Now What?

Hey guys just recieved my Note Edge. Its the Japanese Docomo version. I totally misread the LTE band listing thinking it would work with T-Mobile LTE but it does not. But all is not lost i feel. I did some research and there is a way to unlock LTE bands on Qualcomm devices(as the chip does support all LTE bands world wide) It is a amazing looking device BTW and i Am very happy( I can use my Note 4 until I figure out how to unlock LTE on the EDGE for TMO) So i guess i have a few questions now.
1. Would rooting be theoretically the same as a note 4?
2. Would changing the modem once rooted allow for additional LTE bands to be used ?
3. would rooting using the Note 4 method change the note edge status ?
Just some things i was pondering, if anyone has suggestions I can test with the edge and let you know the outcome in the development forum
:good:
Congrats im so jealous. Ebay?
Congratulations on your purchase!! Mine should be arriving by Friday, I can hardly wait.
I hope you get it unlocked soon.
Could you please test one thing for me?
I wanted to know if you have the ticker panel on the edge screen? If so, can you get Yahoo sports information on it?
Regards.
Just chatted with AT&T. No new info on date.
Sorry! Wrong thread. Mods please delete or move.
Glad you got one. I am still waiting for tmobile to open preorders.
As far as the unlocking and rooting goes your probably have to wait. Not a lot of people have them yet. The note 4 method might be the same tho since most parts are the same.

I was thinking the same, im thinking of trying out that root method just to see if it works. but i hope i dont jack it up in the process. Also the ticker does not have the Yahoo one at this point. im guessing because its the Docomo version.

Good luck with trying the root, I really hope it works. I know I will have to root my phone in order to remove all the Korean bloatware that will come with it.
Is it possible to change the settings on the ticker? I think the Korean version will also have something locally based other than yahoo. I hope it will be possible to change to something else?

yes you can change the ticker within the edge screen settings! and it lets you go to the samsung store to find new edge screens :good:
That's great news! I can sleep peacefully tonight.
Is your Docomo Edge SIM unlocked?
Just wondering if you had to do anything special to use a foreign SIM card in your Docomo Edge.
I'm trying to find a way to do it without going through Docomo or going to Japan.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

[Q] International S5 to US

I'm trying to figure out if an S5 bought in India would work here in the US on sprint. Family over in India sent one over and didn't consider the potential band/frequency issues. It hasn't arrived yet but I am hesitant to use it considering Samsung's region lock etc. Anyone have any experience? Can it be rooted / flashed and work ok on sprint?
I searched around on the forum seeking an answer and I didn't find anything specifically explaining yea or nay. Closest I got was :

[Q] quick Ans needed- buying edge from Dubai to UK-baseband locked/version confusion

Hi,
I am buying a note edge tomorrow, so if someone knowledgeable may answer my questions, It would be much appreciated.
I'm buying the edge from someone in Dubai to use in the UK
The guy said (because it was cheaper) he bought the European version (SM-N915FY) instead of the SM-N915G (which is the international version in most shops in Dubai)
He mentioned it was 4g and his baseband is ANK4 (I have no idea what that means)- does that mean I can use it in the UK unrestricted with any UK network and get 4g speeds?
My other main concern is while I was trying to research this I came across troublesome concerns -
1) I saw someone selling the N915FY version on ebay who said he can't get a signal and has service issues in the UK and the phone can only be used for emergency calls - but phone will work abroad
2) Another ebay seller was selling N915FY version with a sticker on the box which said "EUROPEAN MODEL - this product must be activated with a sim card issued from a mobile operator from EUROPE "
so for those two reasons , I am very concerned - can someone clarify the situation please?
It is the first time I am buying a used phone so not sure what to look for
It also looks like the N915G has had a stable lollipop update, so is that the better version compared with N915FY?
Thanks for your time

Never owned a Galaxy Sx

Hello. I have had nothing but Nexus phones for the last few years. I really like the S6, but am not really sure on a few things. Let me just ask the questions I have, and see if some kind soul will answer them.
1. I'm guessing short of buying a way overpriced international version, there's no way to get an unlocked/carrier-free version of this phone?
2. I use Straight Talk with my Nexus 6. What is the best way (without buying a Straight Talk branded phone) to use an S6 with Straight Talk?
3. If I buy an AT&T S6 outright, do I have to buy service with them? If so, can I cancel after a month and switch to ST?
4. Compared to the Nexus line, is it hell to root an S6 or load custom ROMs on one?
Thanks again for all the help. If anyone is wondering, I do love my N6, but I started running lately, and the 6" form factor is just too much of a beast to strap onto my arm or carry in a pouch. The S6 would be perfect for that.
Anyone?
i can help you with the last question...i think the easiest android phone to flash roms is the galaxy....i used S2 S4 and now S6....and they are the easiest...its simple....maybe you wont find many custom roms for the S6 because of its only exynos variant...but its easy to flash them..

1. Tmobile is the closest you'll get to the international version but your going to have to get it SIM unlocked (try swappa)
2. Take SIM out of n6 and put in s6 I use my s6 on straight talk with no problems you just might have to set the APN settings
3. If you buy s6 outright i do not believe you will have to have service with them should be able to purchase and put your ST sim right in
4. Cannot comment on this but looks like someone already did

Well, the easiest phones on which to flash ROMs are the Nexus phones. But I just wanted to make sure the S6 wasn't too difficult as well.
Thanks for your response.

Thanks for the answers. Where did you get your S6? I can buy the 32GB version from T-Mobile for $629.99. If the one Verizon sells was able to be used with ST, I'd buy it, because they have the lowest prices by far (64GB version for $699). Any idea if the Vz one would work with ST?
Got my gold carrier unlocked S6 for $720 shipped via fedex 2nd day. Not bad I'd say.

I got mine from the ebay seller that had them for $700 the first week, Theres a post on here about using verizon on straight talk, if its like all their others you will get annoyed by the "incorrect sim" message they like to parade around
willmyphonework.net is a good place to see if it has correct bands and what not

What's the best unclocked GS6 to buy?

I have the AT&T version which is locked but I want to get an unlocked version of the GS6. Which one is the best to get? International? T-Mobile? I want the one that has the most support on the development side.
I think the G920F (s6Flat) or G925F (s6Edge) would be the best, because I've seen some kernels just for the international variant and no other. Plus, it's compatible with all if not, most roms. made for the S6. It' s (I think) the cheapest too. Although, I'm not too sure about network bands and compatibility with AT&T.
I have a g-925f, the edge unlocked. Works great on AT&T. Just keep in mind that you aren't going to get samsung pay on an international unlocked model. Learned that the hard way.

I don't care about Samsung pay. I will get the regular 920F since it's got the most support.

If I'm right, most G920F roms, kernels, and recovery's should work the the G925F. So both have equal support.
Or should I get the nexus 6p?
I bought the S6 from B and H Photo online store. The phone is carrier and region unlocked which means it will work anywhere in the world. It came with no bloat except ANT radio which I disabled. It's a G920i from Australia and came with Australian wall charger but I called the store and they sent me a US travel charger for free. B and H is good for customer satisfaction.
