Regarding notification LED - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way I can increase the intensity/brightness of the notification LED?
The current brightness is low compared to other phones like S3.
I am running the latest Sultanxda's cm12.1

LED lights brightness can't be increased or decreased. Just turned on and off only

Well, I was using an xperia device before and there was a flashable zip which increased the brightness. So I thought there would be something like that here too.

Best ROM for battery life?

I'm not to worried about speed as the nexus s seems way faster then my old vibrant. So which rom kernel is everyone running to get the best battery life!
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
kernel: Netarchy's 1.3.0.5-CFS for sure.
ROM: i use CM7 and battery life is fine for me.
the biggest battery saver is to use BLACK colors. they don't use any power on super amoled screens (applies to I9020 models only)

LONGEST LASTING BATTERY stable ROM/kernel

Hi. I am using stock ics. Getting 1.5days of battery with light usage of data(2g). However. Is there a rom that can push it, to a full 2 days? I'm irritated having to charge my phone in the middle of the day. also I would prefer a stable rom only.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
you can put a custom kernel that can extend your battery life. i recommend glados for ics.
Are there any problems with it ?

about GlaDos
if you have S-amuled you will have a greenish screen when waking the device
(that can be fixed with some voodoo configuration editing)
other then that i personally think this is the best available kernel for ICS right now.
it has Deep Idle so you will probably see some improvement of battery life

Battery life depends on ROMs and your usage habits.
If you can get five hours of on screen time your doing something right.

[Q] Any ICS ROMs that fix auto brightness bug?

Are there any Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs for the Nexus S that don't have the flawed auto brightness implementation? I'm sick and tired of straining my eyes because the screen is always too dim. The apps from the market I've tried to fix this problem don't really work - they keep falling asleep or something.
What I really want is a ROM with the minimum brightness tweaked to a higher setting... has anyone seen a ROM that does this?
Cyanogen 7 had a setting built in to customize brightness. You tell it what brightness to use at different light sensor values. I assume CM9 has the same option but I am not sure.

Nah it's broken in CM9
Back when i was using the 2/26/12 cm9 nightly you could tweak the levels and it worked fine. (I am using the nexus s 4g, not sure if that matters) Try that nightly. The setting is listed under display settings. Maybe they broke it since then or maybe just the nightlies have it working? Not sure since i don't like the performance of ics on the nexus s and have gone back to the fast and fully functional GB.

THanks for the advice, I'll give it a try. I've also thought about going back to GB, but it just seems like such a bummer to give up on ICS!
These kinds of issues really make me angry at Google - it's as if they barely even test Android before shipping it!

General Questions about Screen and Battery

Hi There!
I got my wife one of these to replace her Motorola Defy.. She has a few questions I couldn't really answer...
1) She seems to be having problems with signal and therefore internet connectivity. All our other 6 devices wireless fine. It's running 4.04 Android Custom ROM. I read recently 4.04 users were reporting issues with the signal strength and wondering if I should change back to 4.03?
2) She says whites are not really white and when I compare to the Defy it would appear she is right.
3) She says the text doesn't look as sharp or crisp and again I am inclined to agree. I am not sure if this is a Pixel Density issue or a setting we can change.
4) Battery life is shocking. I'd say she is lucky to get 8 hours if she talks on the phone for perhaps 45 minutes a day. I am interested to know what a reasonable baseline expectation is.. Right now she is barely touching it.
Thanks for any assistance.
Hi,
I have been using ICS 4.0.4 as soon as it officially came out and I haven't had any issues with connection (let alone hear of any issues for that matter.)
Whites are definitely not as white as they are supposed to and thankfully there is a software modification called: Voodoo Control while allows you to adjust the gamma settings to change the saturation and tone of colours.
Regarding the sharpness, changing the gamma settings may help in this department unless you'd like to change the pixel density via rooting/flashing custom ROMs.
To be honest, when I first owned this device I would disgusted from the battery life I was achieving. 8-10 hours per day. However, I am able to last about 20-30 now after a few modifications. In 4.0 you can view which apps are consuming the most battery:
System settings > Battery
Battery saving tips:
- Turn down the brightness 10-25% (Also turn off auto brightness if you can live with changing the brightness manually)
- Turn off data when not in use (switch to 2G if possible)
- Turn off auto-sync (or sync less frequently)
- Turn off GPS when not in use
- Turn off the screen manually before putting it in your pocket
- Turn off autorotation
Screen brightness is the biggest culprit so I'd turn that down to a comfortable level.
Basically, the more features you turn off that makes your smart phone "smart" the longer the battery will last.

Can you recommend one?
Matr1x kernel has been around for a long time and is the most feature packed kernel. It also has been tested to save the most battery life compared to other kernels through built-in undervolt.

Is Matrix Kernel voodoo compatible
Yes, it's compatible. AirKernel is another option. There are a few on the DEV section you might want to check. ROMs, I would say: Bugless Beast, MIUIXperience, CyberGR, Brainmaster ROMs, AOSP+ and AOKPBlue 1.1

Where can I get this Voodoo Control? I only see a Sound Control App?
I answered your question in another thread. The color and sound controls are in the same application. If the kernel doesn't support it, it won't show up in the options. The name of the app was changed a while back.

Undervolt xperia z5

hi to everyone...i'm just trying to find a kernel for z5 .152 which let me undervolt the smartphone cause i can't undervolt with the original one or with the @AndroPlus kernel..thank you
Why do you want to undervolt?
Sent from my Xperia z5 using Tapatalk
i want to undervolt to improve autonomy and processor life
It might help to increase battery life as well
The amount you can safely undervolt on most devices will achieve you nothing in real life terms. U might achieve a bit cooler running but you're probably talking like 1-2 degrees

well, with the current state,
you can only reduce the drain but not stop it (e.g. via http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...urance-tweaks-v1-tweaks-t3321841/post65494883 )
that's not an satisfying situation for me,

People do it mostly because of heat, not battery.

Download kernel adiutor, open it, give it root access, then swipe from the left side of the screen to access the options, go to cpu voltage, it will present you with the Little and Big frequencies, tap on any frequency to change its value to your liking and do note that 700mv is the lowest voltage you can set to every frequency.
