Automatic Default App Notification - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note5

Hey all,
Coming from my note 4, whenever I used to open media, a url link, app, etc. It would ask if I would like to set the app as my default "Always" or "just once". On the note 5, whatever I set is always my default app. This gets annoying when I'm trying to watch a movie and it will automatically open my video app instead of my chromecast app and vice versa. I then have to go into my default apps, remove the video app, and then open the video again with chromecast. Is there anyway, without rooting, that I can have it ask?

And how. This is crush-my-soul irritating on the Note 5.

Nope. Maybe a new update will address this issue.
For now just get used to it.

Is there still no solution to this? This is one of the worst things about the Note 5. Why the hell would they take our options away???

I really like the music player I got from F-Droid called Vanilla Music player. Then interface just makes sense to me. But it seems not to be recognized as a player by my Verizon GS3 ICS phone's OS. When I tell Dragon Mobile Assistant to play a song, I get a pop-up asking which player to use, with an option to set the choice as default. The original players from Samsung and Verizon are there, as well as a podcatcher I installed, but not the music player I like to use. Originally, I thought it might be because I side-loaded it through F-Droid, but I found the same one in the Play store and installed it, and the problem persists. Is there a way to force Android to recognize the player as a possible option for playing music so that I can select it as default? Or even a way to set it as default in the first place? I can use the settings in Application Manager in settings to remove apps from the list of possible default apps in the popup dialog to select the default, but I'm not sure how to add an app.
Thanks in advance!
Maybe clear cache for dragon? It might have cached what players were installed when you first ran it. Other than that I'm not sure. Reinstall dragon or there's something about the vanilla player that isn't coded properly in one of the 2 apps I'd think.

Bump, I have the same problem?

Pop-up view pauses background app.

I switched from samsung note 4 to galaxy S8+, then i realise that in S8+ when i open pop-up view and use the app on top of full screen app (game mostly) the full screen app will get paused.
When i tried youtube on fullscreen and pop-view another apps the youtube video still running.
On my samsung note 4 all apps that running on full screen wouldn't get paused.
Is there any way to make the fullscreen app still running when using another app on pop up view window?
Bumping this because I have the same question. Trying to watch video while in a sms convo for example the video always pauses

How to enable YouTube playback in background ?

Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus, I used the feature of YouTube playing in the background on a daily basis.
On Android I start playing a news clip or song then tab out to my web browser or stop watch, or any other app, and the media goes off.
How do I keep YouTube playing the background ?
The only way on YouTube app is by having YouTube Red subscription. It's a feature for red on Android. Others could point something out but from what I've checked and seen when using YouTube is by YouTube Red.

Not sure that its possible without root and xposed. Xposed hasn't been updated to work with Nougat yet though and that could still be some time away unfortunately. Might just have to live with it as is for the time being.
Thanks for the replies. I recall on previous Android phones that are rooted I used that Xposed module. But Xposed isn't compatible with Android N and the S8+ is locked down no root anyways for me.
Dang, that's unfortunate. YouTube Red might be your best bet then. Depends on how much you want it and whether you're willing to pay a monthly subscription to get it I suppose.
Sometimes I use the multi window feature to watch YouTube videos while using another app. It is a bit of a pain though if you just want audio as the minimum window size is still 1/3 of the screen.
I've tried a few apps that claim to play YouTube videos in the background but none of them worked very well.
There a app call OG YouTube somewhere in xda that have playback.
Try swapping top corning down to make the screen smaller. You can still hear and see the video and also move the smaller screen anywhere you want.
Use Firefox browser. It let's you play YouTube in background or screen off

Can you explain how it works on iOS? It seems crazy to me that YouTube requires you to pay a monthly subscription fee for background play on Android, but offers it for free on iOS.
If you mean playing within a web browser, and then going to another tab of the browser, I think Firefox for Android allows you to do that. If, instead, you mean the YouTube app itself, then you need YouTube red or some other (probably unsanctioned) method.

On my iPhone 7 Plus, I was using some program called 'ProTube' on stock iOS, not jailbreak or anything;
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/protube-for-youtube/id931201696?mt=8
I could start a video, and then move to do something else, and it would remain playing in the background until I manually closed it down. I get so used to it, and really liked it, now it's a shock not to have something like it on Android.

Yep you have to download the APK. They stopped support so the latest APK would be the last one you can use.
So you have to search XDA as the website took down the download links for OGYoutube.
The app still works without problems and should be a while until YouTube updates something to make it obsolete.
The lat update is OGYoutube 3.5.
Only thing is that you won't have the crop to fit. If in case you used it.

I couldn't get it to work at first either. Try going to options in Firefox and check "Request desktop site". After doing that I was able to return to the home screen with the audio still playing in the background. It seems to work with the screen off as well! :good:
Go to Youtube app, play video then turn off screen with the power button (just a click). Video will pause. Click on power button again and youll see time on top. Swipe the time left or right and youll see the youtube play button . Click play and it should work. It will not work any other way if you want to text or call or be on your phone but it will if you want to hear music and conserve battery. This is on my S8+ .....PS make sure your Pandora or any other music app is off.

You can't do this on snapdragon versions, which is what op has.
You have to choose desktop mode in the Firefox browser. I know how you feel I switched from iPhone as well
og youtube works like a charm

[No Root] Youtube Background (Trick)

Hello ,The trick works on the galaxy s8 and s8 +, with any official youtube version.
To be able to do the youtube trick in the background without root, do the following:
● Open the application in the normal way.
● Select the video of your choice.
● leave the video playback.
● Go to the beginning, without closing the multitasking.
□ Here are two options to activate youtube in the background:
1-Through the play button of the headphones that we have connected to the phone.
● Close the default music player on your phone, since it is activated; When you press the play button on the headphones, the music player will be activated and youtube will not be activated.
2-Lock the screen and move the clock widget to the left, the youtube widget appears on the play button and ready; This option works without headphones or headphones.
◇Important never close youtube in multitasking.
□Luck ^-^.

Not really, app is very lightweight and is way mkre convenient to use without relying on any bugs in the system. It also lets you download the videos in multiple qualities.

If it wasn't a bug, why would Google make it a paid option included in youtube red subscription? Windows phone doesnt even have an official app for youtube so developers have implented it into their apps long before it was a thing on Android. I havent had an iOS device but a friend of mine confirms that the official youtube app doesnt support background play either so he has to use either Safari or some third party app.

why not youtube red. i havent paid for youtube red since it started. they always offer 4 month of googlemusic which include youtube red. just switch to different email. i have 3 gmail and i have been rotating everytime one expires. it says is for new user but if uhavent use the same email for over 6 month it will let u reuse it
YouTube red is not available in most countries.
It doesn't work on latest update S8 stock ROM...EU

Why do photos and videos......

....open in editor mode? The wife’s is the same and the only way open videos so that you have the usual controls is to click the three dots on the bottom right and chose open in video player.
I’m sure it only happened since the last update. If i need to use the editor I will switch to it but that is rear. Can it be forced to open in player at the start?
Best regards,
Considering there are no replies at all, I may not have explained the problem properly.
When I click to open a video, it opens as the first picture. I then have to click the 3 dots on the bottom right to open it in video player (picture 2), that takes me to picture 3. I never before had to go through these steps before, it always used to open in the video player first. Am I the only one with this problem?
Hope someone can help.

I'm trying to understand, why you opening videos via Gallery app.
(i presume it's via Gallery app)
Have you got the Samsung Video Library app also installed.
You have to, to view videos directly.!
Link...
Samsung Video Library - Apps on Google Play
You can browse and play video content.
play.google.com
All you do is, open video directly from this app. Even hover S pen over video to get preview video.
See screenshots
Good luck.

The reason for that is because I always opened it from galley and it had, till recently, opened in video player, which is Samsung Video Library. Also, if you have any videos in the secure folder, you have no choice of opening it in video player unless you go through the extra clicks. That is the reason for looking somehow to force videos to open in Samsung Video Library from gallery as it used to do. Hope that makes sense.
Thank you to taking time to answer.

Thanks for explaining. I understand.
For me the Samsung Gallery app (video)
is now intended (actually been, quite some time now) if you either want to edit a video or set a video as Lockscreen wall.
Bottom line,
as i see it Samsung does not actually see Gallery app, as video player, as such....anymore.!
Only linking it (hiding) access in Gallery app settings.
So your choice is,
either use the Samsung Video library or bear the extra taps.!
Good luck.
