Is there a way to make that receiving text message doesn't open the screen ? Everytime i receive a SMS or MMS my screen is turning on ..
There is mod which fix that but you have to root your phone or simply use another text messaging app.

Ok, after I installed the gutted ROM I have the double messages again even I get a text. But there isn't anywhere to choose handcent as default, like it was prior to rooting. I go into the settings on both handcent and stock msg and there is no option to make either a default. I assumed when I sent my first text from handcent I would get the message, but nope. Can anyone tell me how to make handcent default so I can stop getting 2 messages?

In the stock messaging app, go into settings and de-select Auto-retrieve and de-select Notifications. Close that and go to your People app and select someone to send a text message (don't do this in the Handcent app) and you should get a text box to choose which app to use and be sure to select Handcent as the dafault action.
Make sure notifications are turned off in the stock SMS app. That's all I had to do to get Handcent to be my default SMS app. You can also clear your settings, much like you'd do to switch between Sense UI and the stock home screen.

Perfect!! That worked great, thanks for the help guys.
When a new message comes in, the pop up for Go SMS shows over the WidgetLocker. The option in WidgetLocker to hide SMS messages doesn't work.
I also want the pop up to turn on the screen, but not show. Help please?
The following doesn't work... VVVV

Thanks!
I just go into GOSMS settings and disable the popup. Those things are so annoying anyway.
I changed to Handcent because of this.

I've been wondering the same thing, it looks as though you cannot set your messages to not show a preview in the status bar with the integrated hangouts app
I got used to this method of working and is very good for my living situation!!!
This will be annoying if this is forced on by default with no method of turning it off?
bump?
I have been using SMS Popup since the original G1, but they said with the switch over to Hangouts on the Nexus 5, there are some bugs that they are unable to work out. Is there a different app you guys are using that's working without any issues? I just want the message to popup and the ability to quick reply to it.

This isn't *exactly* what you're looking for, but check out DynamicNotifications. It makes it so when you get an email, or text, it shows message details on your lock screen and you can swipe to unlock and it'll go straight to the message. Hopefully it'll fill in the gap, as I've replaced SMS Popup with it since my Galaxy Nexus.....
I'll think about it, but at the moment, I don't have a lock screen enabled.

I second this, pure stock android messaging, extremely customizable, has popup that can be toggled, toggle it to turn on your screen, change MMS size, app icon, has status bar "Read" "Reply" options, best sms app I could ask for on this device.
Hi everyone! My incoming text messages are not showing up. After I click on them from the messaging screen, they disappear. So, unless I'm looking at my phone and can read the preview - I lose my messages entirely. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas to get my text messages working again?

Hey there .
First of all , are you on stock ? What what model ? And most importantly , are you sure you have enough disk space for them ? Make sure you're not running out on that . You might want to check if the "Delete Old Messages" is ticked in the SMS app and see if it's not accidentally set to a low number .
