[Completed] Installing Android Lollipop on Sony Xperia S build no. 6.2.B.1.96 on MacOS X 10.6.8 - XDA Assist

Hello Xda developers and friends,
As I am about to purchase a new phone, I thought that it would be nice if I installed Lollipop on my beloved Sony Xperia S. I googled and also searched within xdadevelopers however most solutions are either referring to a previous build or the require the use of WIndows or a later edition of Mac OS. Even Android SDK doesn't run on my version of MacOSX.
I checked if I can unlock the bootloader of my phone at sony.developers.com however within the service menu it was stated that unlocking the bootloader is not allowed.
My phone is locked on the O2 UK network (don't know if this is relevant).
Could you please direct me the correct thread where I will be able to locate resources and instructions in order to be able to install a stable version of android lollipop?
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Anthony

Hello Anthony, and Welcome to XDA!
Getting around the MacOS problem shouldn't be too much of an issue. All you need (hopefully) is Virtual Machine software (like VMWare or VirtualBox), and run Linux (like Ubuntu) within it. With luck, any device connected to the computer will interface with the "guest" OS (Linux).
Not sure how to get around your bootloader unlocking issue, but your guides can be found here:
> Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion > Xperia S, Acro S, Ion General
Sometimes here:
> Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion > Xperia S Android Development
By the way, this thread is of use.
Any questions you may have, can be asked here (once you have an XDA account):
> Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion > Xperia S, Acro S, Ion Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thank you @joel.maxuel for your quick response. Unfortunately I am not familiar with Linux and I think my Mac is probably a bit old (13.3 mid 2009 Macbook pro with 4GB RAM) to withhold a VMWare or Virtual Box. I will look into VMWares now and hopefully I can make it work. Thank you so much again!

Market Applications in CM 7.1.0 B012

Hi,
Once again i am really thankful to all your efforts in getting Cyanogenmod for Xperia Arc.
I recently upgraded to CM7.1.0 B12. But i am still not able to access all applications in the android market namely, facebook, Go launcher ex, power strip etc...
Can you please address these issues at the earliest...
I don't have access to post comments in Development thread directly, as i am new to this forum. That's the reason i am posting here. Expecting reply from atleast one of you.
Thanks in advance...
Market applications issue
When i tried to download missing application from 'Android Market - WebSite' the model number drop down shows the phone model as 'Sony Ericsson Sony Ericsson xperia Arc'... And then it says this device is not supported for the application...
Also the model number in the mobile shows 'Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc' instead of just 'Xperia Arc' (which was there in the stock rom)... as shown in the attachment...
Please appologize if i am wrong...
I'm not sure. But did you install the Google Apps package in AOR/OR?
Thank you very much for the response.
But i heard that this is the issue with the CM 7.1.0 rom for xperia arc.
I hope that this will be fixed at the earliest.

MAC specific instructions for bootloader unlocking and rooting Neo V

I have spent several days searching for MAC specific instructions for unlocking Sony XPERIA Neo V bootloader. The few examples I found were incomplete, and lacked active links to software.
Perhaps the various references would work for someone who has a deep understanding of computer systems. But I do not.
I am quite new to android operating systems. My only mod experience has been a Dell Mini Hackintosh.
I follow instructions well, but do not have any texhnical basis from which to infer steps.
Is there a thread which actually goes from start to finish on a MAC and Xperia Neo V?
For example: Where to insert the Sony code boot loader unlock code?
Or is there someone who will answer basic questions if there is no thread?
This would be very, very much appreciated.

[Q]Custom Firmware to sony smartwatch mn2?

hello to all dev's, last week I adquired a Sony smartwatch nm2 , I'm intrigued and I read some threads in other forums on xda and technology that they reads that sony release code base of this device. Excuse my ignorance and I don't compile:silly:. Could anybody develop a custom firmware for this device please?. Thanks in advance. Regards from Argentina
Hi there. I just got one of these myself. I was actually going to start a new thread asking if it would be possible to install another smartwatch image (i.e. pebble time firmware) onto the sony smartwatch mn2, when I found your thread. I see that no one responded. So, I'm assuming this is not a very in demand option.
I also found some info on pebble apps onto Sony Smartwatches - here is the link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2755270
There was also an older link to a Custom ROM - here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759130
Not sure if you're even still monitoring this thread or if you've moved on.
Anyway, take care & Happy New Year!
Dan

[Completed] Sony Xperia AOSP Help?

Hello I'll currently deciding whether to get an Xperia s or the Xperia sp, I noticed that the S is on sonys AOSP page along with some other devices but the SP wasn't on there, what does this mean or doesn't it really matter, also I would really like Android M/6 on whatever device I choose does it affect that?
Hi,
Thanks for using XDA assist.
If the device isn't listed on Sony's AOSP supported devices, that just means that they will only give updates with Sony's skin of Android. It won't impact custom ROM development as that will be dependent on the number of developers in the community with the same device as you choose, as well as the availability of the phone's source code. There are ROMs available on XDA for the Xperia SP visit the forum below:
Xperia SP Android Development
Xperia SP Original Android Development
Marshmallow is still a WIP for the Xperia SP device, so you may not see it as a suitable upgrade.
As for the Xperia S, here is the development forum below:
Xperia S Android Development
The xperia s has more marshmallow roms compared to the xperia sp, so you may prefer it because it is a more actively developed device.
Good Luck! - gsstudios
Hello thanks for the reply, what do you mean by "only give updates with Sony's skin of Android" I thought neither the Xperia S or SP got updated anymore with them being older phones or am I not quite getting this haha? Also if you could recommend one I would really appreciate it thanks.

[Completed] Install CyanogenMod in lenovo A3500-HV

I own a Lenovo A3500 -HV. I have been using it for an year now and it is running KitKat(4.4.2). There is no sign of a newer OS coming to this tab so I have decided to install a new ROM. I decided to go with CynanogenMod but the problem is my device is not listed in the supported devices directory.
I think my device has the minimum requirements to run the OS.
I would like to know if it will be better to install the CyanogenMod or just leave it with kitkat or maybe install some other mods that my tab can support?
