So I went to use my MHL 3.0 adapter like I normally would with any Samsung phone and to my surprise it didn't fit! Thats pretty disappointing.... any alternatives that don't require streaming from Wifi?
Didn't fit or didn't work? I've a Samsung MHL adapter and it fits just fine. I can't test to see if it works till I get home or near a tv. Also I know Samsung has a micro USB adapter for older MHL devices that don't have the required pins (had to buy one for my s3) it was only a few bucks on amazon when I purchased one, it may be worth a try if your issue is fitment.
Mhl is not supported with note 5 according to samsung. Google cast and screen mirroring is the only options for this device from my research
I need the samething. I don't have a WiFi at my weekend house.
I've used this before. It uses WiFi Direct so you don't need a house WiFi.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=9167015&CatId=5279
You're wrong.
In fact, the Note 5 DOES have MHL 3.0. As quoted from the GSMArena.com Note review...
"The USB has MHL 3.0 functionality, which allows it to output 2160p video at 30fps, coincidentally the top mode for the camera."
Link to the page: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note5-review-1286p3.php
But Samsung did one of the following:
*Disable MHL
Removed necessary plug-ins or apps
*Restricted use for other apps
* - It's possible that MHL interferes with Gear VR, because I plugged in my cable, and it recognized as a VR headset for a split second before
canceling.

...I'm really sorry, but I can't take you seriously. The way you replied either makes you look like some idiot businessman or some little kid. I just can't. Besides, we weren't talking about SideSync, we were talking about if MHL is integrated and even usable on the Note5. So just please, I know this is in fact a forum page, but please go fix the way you present information.
The Samsung HDMI Smart Adapter that I bought, and had no problem using with my Note 4, does not plug in to my Note 5. It is a bit strange looking micro-USB plug compared to all my others. My Note 5 female connection is not damaged. I also note the adapter male micro-USB will not fit in the female power slot of the adapter, either. No one else has had this problem?

there are 2 kinds of micro usb jack for MHL connectivity, 5 PIN and 11 PIN, you might want to look into that.

I'm eyeballing either TV Video AV Cable for Samsung Galaxy Tab Note 10.1 or Samsung Galaxy TabTM HDTV Adapter for my Galaxy Note 10.1
My biggest concern is compatibility.
I checked on samsungs own site for the compatibility between the HDMI cable and the Note but it came up saying "NO" but I don't know if that's because they haven't tested it yet or it really is a NO. As for the RCA one, I'm aware I'll lose the awesome video output and will be watching it in SD, that's ok, the videos I have saved on it are from DVD so it won't get better than 720, what I'm more concerned about is "will it work"
anyone tested either of these and know the answer?
BTW: the Note is completely stock at this point

I bought the HDMI adapter, I believe it is the same one you linked to on amazon, official samsung adapter, but at frys electronics ( I had a $100 giftcard there from the sale hey had on the note 10.1). It has nice picture and audio as should be expected, and it is nice with apps like youtube with the user interface.
The only issue I found with it so far, and might be a deal breaker, is you need to have your charger plugged into the adapter at the same time for it to work. There is a slot to plug into right next to the input on the device. It seems like a nice feature at first so you can charge your device while watching netflix or whatever on your regular tv. BUT you NEED to have it plugged in in order for it to work, and I wanted to remove several cables and stuff. I got this adapter so I wouldn't have to worry about moving my laptop from my office to my living or bedroom to watch some tv, but it will be the same hassle it seems like with this.
I am considering returning it and going a different route that will better suite my needs of less wires.
Don't know about the RCA thing, but it seems like it might be a good route if it works.

Yes I know if the projector has an HDMI input it will be like attaching to HD TV, but Iam asking about how to connect to a projector with VGA port
get a vga to hdmi converter
One point to Note: You do need to connect the charger for the HDMI to work which can be a bummer

I haven't tried it but maybe a pricey but elegant solution could be using the Samsung AllShare Cast Wireless Hub (info is here).
No cables at all!
To use a VGA projector you'd again need an HDMI to VGA connector. But this time it would be attached to the hub, that is powered by itself by its cable.
This answer my original ancient question: "Is it possible to send the display signal to a projector through wifi?". And the answer is (apparently): "YES!"
I've seen a video where the hub was used to send to a TV set the images of a race game, while playing with it. No evident lag at all.
I wonder if there could be a similar device made by some third party (-> less expensive).

Here is the solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32039367&postcount=8, awesome, I really enjoy it to present wireless.
Just recently I had the projector with VGA cable but discovered that the projector had the second, HDMI port, so I quickly connected the AllShare cast dongle to HDMI and the projected screen quality was even better.

It cost US$35 and it came with its power adapter and HDMI cable. It has an audio out in the device to connect to a sound system. The analog VGA connection only accommodates graphics, hence the audio jack. This was imported from China sold over in the Philippine market. I was constantly checking for one for the last couple of months to be used for live drawing demonstrations.

Great, I've been looking for an HDMI to VGA converter that works and is also small. Most of the one's I found are huge and kinda defets the purpose of a portable device. Please tell what store or where you found this converter. Thanks a lot!

Wow, a cheaper one at half the price w/ no need for a power supply? That's great. Is it also a cdr-king product? Or an acer product? Is there an exact name for the store at MOA or just acer? Still not sure that the one at the acer store will work (lot's of those powerless converters lying around that don't actually work costing 800 or more, plus they don't have an audio plug like the one you have on your unit).
Btw, how's the cdr-king converter? Build wise/quality? Does it over heat after prolonged use? I'm really interested in it. Hope to connect it not just to the note 8 but to an android mini pc like the MINIX NEO G4.
I'm also thinking of connecting the the note 8/minix & this converter to an external battery/power pack to minimize the need for too many plugs. Do you suppose it might work (or tried it for yourself?)
Thanks a lot for your very helpful post and your quick response. I was losing hope that I would ever be able to connect android to a…regular monitor/projector.

Please beware of the fact that the non powered HDMI to VGA converters don't really work with the Note 8.0 MHL to HDMI. I am not sure why....but they don't, probably the MHL doesn't give enough power to run the converter. I tried and it didn't work.
That's not to say that Non powered converter never works, when you connect to a regular HDMI port like of a laptop, it works very well, and mine also had an audio out. Had to return it with a lot of difficulty.
If you just want to connect a note 8.0/note 2/S3 to a VGA input, take a look at this as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2248575
Only one MHL to VGA adapter and a 5 pin to 11 pin adapter needed. Also, only a single power source required, much simpler.

As Agambhandari has warned, it looks like the unpowered type will probably will NOT work! The CDR King with the power adapter works quite fine, and has an audio out anyway. It doesn't produce any heat and I have tested it to an HD tv and projector. It's working fine with good audio out - probably why it needs to be powered. The only thing I find frustrating is the power adapter is not a micro USB type of connector, like for the Note 8. So you really need to plug in for its power source, hence you cannot power it with your external battery pack unless you have that exact plug adapter (USB to the round power plug).
One problem I encountered is the video ratio. It cannot adjust the 10:16 ratio to my old 3:4 Viewsonic monitor, and everything is just stretched vertically. My old monitor doesn't have the option to match the 10:16 of the Note 8. It works fine with contemporary lcd tvs and the projector since they match the 10:16 ratio and they have options to adjust.
Yes, the ₱1,580 CDR King HDMI to VGA converter is worth the buy. You only need to be careful of buying the correct 11-pin micro USB to HDMI adapter for the Note II/S3/S4/Note 10.1/Note. The old micro USB to HDMI adaptor that worked with the Note 1 will not work for the Note 8.
You need to hurry up or else stocks run out and it's usually months till they stock up on these.

thanks again to TheNeighbor101 and Agambhandari for your great inputs. I agree that Agambhandari's set up is simpler when connecting the note 8 in particular (at least one less power cord). However, i also want this adapter as a multpurpose adapter, so i can connect any tablet with an HDMI out to a projecter or even (as I said earlier) an android mini pc. I used to think that HDMI was so out of the ordinary to be practical when every laptop had a vga port but now that tablets have become mainstream, how i wish HDMI ports were more common place in everyday projectors (how quickly the future creeps up on us)...
I realized that an android mini pc is cheaper (smaller like a big usb flash drive) to just leave connected to a projector while you mirror your presentation from the note 8. Kingsoft office is great with this especially with the floating notes in presentation mode (you see your speaker notes on the multiwindow of the note 8 but it stays hidden on the mirroring device). I wouldn't want to leave the note 8 connected/chained to the projector while you're at the podium/stage. Am still saving up for the set up. Will post feed back if i hopefully get it working....
btw: i'm using the generic 11-pin for the note 8 (it works, tried it on the tv). I thought that the new 11 pin allows for simultaneous charging of the note 8/note2/S3/S4 (as compared to the original 5 pin which didn't)...however, when plugged in, it just seems to power the mhl-hdmi cable. the note 8 shows a charging icon but continues to discharge (bat levels number continues to go down) despite being plugged to a socket? is this becuase it's a generic cable? If I use the true samsung cable will that charge the note 8 and power the mhl cable?
Thanks again to you both....you saved me a ton of effort. More power to XDA

I use a non-Samsung micro USB to HDMI adapter too. It's practically the same thing and quality but at half the price. It slows down the power consumption. It's charging but the rate of incoming charge is lower than the discharging of the battery to power the screen and processing. Try charging it through the adapter with screen turned off or without connecting to an HDMI as an experiment to see this.
If that's your case, my advice is you get the Samsung AllShareCast dongle for only ₱3,800 and connect to the VGA adapter. This is a strong recommendation, unless the Android pc has a wifi hotspot capability, you need to rely on the local network to operate with RemoDroid (only works on rooted) and the frame rate is low and laggy for live sketching or markups. Videos can't show on the projected screen.
The AllShareCast dongle is perfect. Practically shows no image delay. I plan to get one myself for a big presentation around August as I'll be presenting an architectural design to a group of people. I'll need to sketch to get my points across.

Are you using the stock note 8.0 charger which has a 2.0 A rating?

There would be no difference in usage or utility of a Samsung and a compatible adapter.

Yes, I'm using the official charger. Thanks. So no dice with the simultaneous usage/charging I supposed (and I thought that was one of the advantages of the new 11 pin.)
Anyway, will keep both your comments and suggestions in mind. Just wish the generic screen mirroring on JB 4.2.2 would start being more main stream so we don't have to get stuck with Samsung products using group play and all share cast.I know that chinese tablets are already getting a WIMORX implentation of this and it looks pretty good. I hope this gets baked into a rom. Remodroid hasn't been updated in a while for rootless screen mirroring (on samsung and lg devices). Thanks again to you both.
The generic screen mirroring is actually known as Miracast. AllShare Cast is nothing different from it except the name.
If you have one of the new TV's or any Miracast adapter, the Note 8.0 will also mirror easily to that.

Oh so it will work on any miracast adapter?Thanks...I just think that buying a miracast adapter is way to expensive for just mirroring which is why I was thinking of getting an android mini pc stick instead. This way, If i'm not mirroing the note 8, i can still use the stick as a mini pc for the TV. The price of good android mini pc's and the proprietary samsung adapter are just about the same. My problem with the mini pc's is that they're all mostly on ICS4.-- JB 4.1 which don't have working miracast yet. JB 4.2 has it but I'm not sure it will work across all devices.
Do you have any suggestions for cheaper generic miracast adapters (preferably as portable as the samsung one)?
Thanks again.

I found an app called Screen Standby that turns off the screen while it is actively connected to the HDMI dongle. It means you can mirror everything onto the projector/screen, except the device's screen is off. It can give you a more charging. You need to root for this to work.

It cost US$35 and it came with its power adapter and HDMI cable. It has an audio out in the device to connect to a sound system. The analog VGA connection only accommodates graphics, hence the audio jack. This was imported from China sold over in the Philippine market. I was constantly checking for one for the last couple of months to be used for live drawing demonstrations.

minix WIMORX compatibile with Samsung's ALLSHARE cast?

The generic screen mirroring is actually known as Miracast. AllShare Cast is nothing different from it except the name.
If you have one of the new TV's or any Miracast adapter, the Note 8.0 will also mirror easily to that.

Hi, just to add to my first reply about generic miracast. I'm thinking of getting the minix neo x5 mini. It has WIMORX installed. I was wondering if anyone in the note 8 forums has actually seen MINIX's WIMORX and SAMSUNG'S allshare cast (basically both proprietary names for MIRACAST) working together. I've alread seen WIMORX working on you tube and it's really fast even with 2d games (haven't seen 3d games yet)...and we already know that ALLSHARE cast is also good...this may help me decide on this product. I know that based on agambhandari's post it should in theory be compatible but just wanted to know if anyone has actually tried it out or seen it working... thanks...again.
Thought I'd update this thread a bit.

Greetings,
It's been a while. i thought I'd share some of my experiences on trying to hook up to VGA and ask a few questions as well while I'm at it. I din't get the allsharecast dongle. Instead, I opted to get the minix neo g4 android mini pc. It's a great product. I figured, the allshare cast dongle is great but it doesn't do much else without a samsung device to mirror its contents. The minix is a full fledged android device running 4.1 (upgradable to 4.2) so even without any samsung or other android device, it can stand on its own. It's RK remote is amazing as well so you can play touch games like dead trigger 2 on it using your android phone as the controller (ala droidmote). For presentations, I realized that kingsoft office is great since you can "share play" powerpoints slides similar to presenter view on a windows PC. To illustrate, you can present the slides on the minix neo g4 (synchronized to the note 8) and still pull out your slide notes on the note 8 (without these showing up on the minix/vga projector set up). With screen mirroring, if you pull out your slide notes than this gets mirrored to the projector screen.
Instead of getting the CDRking HDMI to vga converter with audio noted on this post, i opted to get the MINIX HDMI to VGA converter. It also works like a charm. Connected it to a samsung laptop's HDMI (at the store) and it worked, connected it to an asus TF101 tablet (mini HDMI to REGULAR HDMI than to MINIX HDMI-VGA) and it worked, connected it to the minix neo G4 and obviously...it WORKED (FULL 1080p)...plus it has an audio out (for full speakers) as well that WORKS even without connecting the optional power supply to the converter....now the sad part and also my question....
1)I connected it to the NOTE 8 and tried the S2 as well: MHL to HDMI adapter then to the MINIX HDMI-VGA adapter. The TV connected, the "hdmi connected" appeared on the note 8, the TV autoadjusted it's VGA input signals and then voila...GREEN SCREEN. Am I doing something wrong?
What I've found so far:
a) I read in another forum that some HDMI manufactureres USE some kind of HDMC digital code (sorry don't remember the actual acronym) to limit piracy of digital content.. Unfortunately, this HDMC code isn't supported by VGA so it won't work. Could that be what's going on? My asus is already on a custom rom (using the KATKIS 4.3 multiwindow stable edition rom which is excellent if i might add) and doesn't ende up with this GREEN SCREEN. The asus is also an older model using an even older GPU (Tegra 2) but it screen mirrors to VGA just fine. Is it time to flash a custom note 8 rom? Did you get a similar problem with your HDMI-VGA adapter. If so, how did you overcome it?
b) I've read in another forum that it's faulty cables but I used the same cables for the asus and minix.both worked without a hitch.
2) Next question. How did it go with the presentation using the note 8. You said you'd be using it with the allshare cast dongle. I've noticed that on the big screen (using kingsoft, quickoffice, polaris), all power point slides just aren't as sharp as when viewing them using a regular PC and windows software (even on the minix which already uses full HD 1080p resolution).Plus, there are always black bars along the sides. Can't full strecth the slide the way microsoft powerpoint stretches slides to fill the screen when presenting.
Thanks again.
Anyway
Had the same green screen problem. The problem I believe is that the MHL standard doesn't have enought power to give the hdmi to vga converter.
If possible try an MHL to VGA adapter, or else replace the current HDMI TO VGA with a powered HDMI to VGA .

Funny, I actually have. I work in a computer repair/data recovery shop and we have a phone in with a broken screen/lcd. Long story short is that the device did not work with the phone we got it for, nor my phone (Galaxy S5), and I know my MHL works on my phone but we needed KB/Mouse support as well.
It may have been a bunk device and we haven't requested a replacement yet, so If you try it out let me know if yours works, and when we get our replacement i'll let you know.
actually the seller replied to me and says that this cannot do hdmi and otg at the same time but apparently this dock does : http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=ite...obalID=EBAY-US&ssPageName=ADME:X:ACME:US:1123
but this dock is not compatible with galaxy s5 ... i wonder why

Unfortunately I don't think so, I used this:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Lindy-73391-...6?pt=DE_Computer_Sonstige&hash=item462bc81bb0
with a s4, and it worked prperly, but when connected to s5 it doesn't even turns on. I think it is because s5 doesn't have a docking mode, in fact if you go in Settings-->accessories, there is only an option for sound on hdmi, while in s4 there were more (and one was for the docking mode)
I couldn't find anything that worked reliably and consistently. So I use the MHL for HDMI output and use a Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse...

This is a good solution, but I'm wondering why, since 11 pin connectors usually can handle hdmi and usb otg on the same time, why old dock stations for 11 pin device don't work?
using micro 3.0 for MHL and OTG
i have a SM-G900P and if i make a OTG and MLH cable through usb 3.0 do you think i could charge and use HDMI and 2 usb for keyboard and mouse. My goal is to make my phone like a mini computer on the go for my roms and movies
Possibly use the USB 3.0 Micro-b connection?
All my googling on this matter with the S5 seems to lead to one inevitable conclusion, the S5 won't allow for simultaneous MHL and OTG use, because the S5 uses the 5pin connector and not the 11pin connector (as the S4 seemed to). What I don't understand is, isn't the S5 using USB 3.0 instead of the USB 2.0 as on the S4? How could the S5 allow for faster data transfer rates and yet not be able to transfer more types of data at once?
Isn't there a way to utilize the entire USB 3.0 micro-b format (which apparently has 10 pins, 5 for backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 (except 5pin, and not 11pin), and 5 extra for USB 3.0 speeds) to use MHL and OTG and charging simultaneously?

I'm having an issue with MHL adapter on my S5, When I connect my MHL adapter to my S5, the audio on my TV seems delayed, but when I tried it on my S3, the audio is perfectly fine. Is this something to do with S5 having 5 pin only wherein S3 having 11pin?
I saw a 5 pin to 11 pin converter on Amazon, will this solve this issue? And possibly the issue of not being able to use MHL/HDMI and USB at the same time?
buy chrome cast you can screen mirror or use almost any app directly to the tv when it comes to videos and such theres a little allshare
button at the top of like the video player, you tube etc.
also a smart tv does the same thing only better (all the above scenarios will only work with a connected network)
what is wrong with the image quality?
Chromecast works for me at home or anywhere it has standard wifi, but is too painful in most hotels that use a web user login. Without net access it was almost useless last time I tried. I could pair with it, but it wouldn't stream local files from my device. Most places I've stayed in the last few years have an active HDMI port on their tv, so the MHL HDMI and OTG with USB wireless mouse on an S3 worked for me, even though I couldn't charge at the same time. Haven't been able to make that work so far with anything I've tried on the S5.
Still no luck with S5 docking (MHL+OTG)
Hello!
I've been using this adapter for a while with a Samsung Galaxy S4:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MHL-...or-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-S4-Note/32461052976.html
Charging, HDMI connection and USB keyboard + mouse works very nice.
Unfortunately no luck with S5. Not even charging works. I read S5 doesn't use 11-pin USB (because of the USB 3.0 plug, etc...). If that's true, then not even installing a custom ROM would make the docking work.
According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57336973&postcount=4, "the G800F is capable of USB OTG. It simply is not enabled in the stock firmware." I know this is about a S5 Mini, but wouldn't it be the same for the S5?
Hello to all boys ,
I have a project and I want to solve a problem .
A friend with Note 3 succeeded with this adapter : http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B00NPZS54K?ref_=cm_sw_r_awd_WESSub18CDDPV to operate both, hdmi that otg ( mouse ) .
To me instead with NOTE 4 together do not work , only the hdmi or just the OTG , if I connect them together and connect all the Notes 4 , sees only the hdmi.
I repeat BOTH work but not together .
Solutions ? Have you tried to run video and mouse together with Notes 4 ?
Thank you all !
Everything I read says its determined by whether the 5 pin or 11 pin MHL specification is used. If the 11 pin is used on the note 4 then you should be able to use USB and HDMI simultaneously, but if its the 5 pin... one or the other. And I read the Note 4 has the 11 pin variety so technically you SHOULD be able to do this.
This one says its for the note 4... Could just be the adaptor, Ive seen more than one MHL adaptor that wouldnt work right with my S4 but worked fine with the S3.. I dunno...

Nothing?
@ jadaress1
it's just a matter of translation, in italian we say "ciao a tutti ragazzi" to greet everybody regardless of gender (or age, despite its meaning).
If you translate this sentence in english literally you obtain exactly the greeting used by the OP, I think there is no sexism involved!
just in case, I want to say hi to all the girls out there (hopefully my wife isn't looking).
Any developments here? I want both for my note 4 too, I have an OTG cable and an MHL cable, would love to combine them somehow. I also have a cheap "desktop connection kit" that used to work on my S3 and could use on my S4 with an adapter (I think, that was a while ago), it is a small white box with an 11 pin USB male to plug into the phone, 3 USB ports, HDMI port and female 5 pin USB for power, I tried it on the note 4, it says "dock connected" but only MHL works, I tested the sense resistor and found 40.9ohms, not sure if I can just swap that for a different resistance, would love to splice the MHL and OTG adapters together somehow, or maybe modify the desktop connection kit gizmo to work for the note 4.
Any consensus? Would really like to know if anyone got this to work.
i think ive gotten this to work with the dock. ill double check when i get home.

I can confirm that the official Samsung Galaxy dock DOES do simultaneous USB + HDMI on the Note 4. No idea where to find a genuine for sale, though. If you find a cheap knockoff, it may or may not work correctly.
I got the official samsung dock one on Amazon, but it only works with the USB function on lollipop. Once I upgraded to Marshmallow, the USB is no longer detected, only HDMI out works. The analog audio out never did work on LP, or MM.
I use a Samsung multimedia dock. I've tried many things but it seems to be the best. The second best and I prefer is a MHL Samsung cable since the dock forces the phone in portrait , i bet I could make a new thing for it to be horizontal but it was like 40 bucks so I don't wanna trash it. I had a generic one , looked same but was so so cheap and the connector/ ribbon cable inthe thing broke. But ya for USB and HDMI out , / 3.5MM headphone bonus get a factory older GS4 Dock. The cables work but won't even with OTG in line , you'd have to go bluetooth which isn't bad at all though like a PS4 controller with the keyboard add on and the MHL cable with the phone horizontal works awesome. or use app to force it landscape .
