Corrupted Memory Moto G? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I received a boot looped moto G from a friend and what infuriates me is that no matter what I do, nothing changes on the phone. NOTHING. Flash new recovery? Old one is still there. Flashed new modem, radio, boot images, boot logo [OKAY] and more yet it's as if the phone never budged. I wiped /data /system /cache too.
Not recognized on ADB
Recognized on mfastboot
Boots to recovery
Bootloader Unlocked
Any ideas what the issue is?

1.Which recovery have you tried ?? Before flashing new recovery have you erased the old one ("fastboot erase recovery <recovery name> " ). Have you tried twrp latest version by h2o ??
2. While flashing new rom, does recovery shows any error ??
3. Have you checked your partition ?? They may be corrupted..

Facing the same problem here
I had dropped my Moto G in water accidentaly. After reviving it I was welcomed to CM12.1 with continuous error messages (process.com.xyz has stopped). So i decided to flash stock ROM and update my recovery while at it. But afer doing the necessary operations successfully I am greeted back to the same corrupted OS. Not 1 bit of data is changed. Please suggest a solution someone.

You can try flashing CM via TWRP again, this may cause the OS to boot correctly. However, generally emmc corruption can never be cured.

[Q] I just can't make my phone work!!PLEASE HELP!!

Hey guys, i'm having some SERIOUS problems with my 1st generation moto g XT1033.
Some days ago, i flashed stock android 5.0. Alright... So, i discovered that that were cm12 nightlies on the official cyanogenmod site and i flashed it. So, just after that i discovered that dual sim wasn't ported yet so i tried to change to stock 5.0, but my phone entered in a boot loop so i flashed stock 4.4.4, with no luck... now i flashed 5.0 but it's still not booting, i am now thinking about going back to CM12, which already have dual sim... the problem is that i dont know why, TWRP MTP isn't working, so now i just cant pass the CM12 zip to the phone because of that. please i need help i dont know what to do, if there's some way to flashing it without using TWRP's MTP. Thanks a lot and sorry about the english

Bad idea, never try to downgrade... If you can still access fastboot you are VERY luck that your phone did not end up in a hard brick. :fingers-crossed:
Try and flash stock 5.0 from fastboot mode. And wipe everything including userdata.
Goodluck!

If you have unlocked boot loader then go into fastboot mode and run "fastboot boot customrecovery.img" where customrecovery.img is CWM or TWRP. I recomment TWRP. From there you can adb sideload the zip. Only flash it if you know exactly what you are doing or you may end up in a hard brick.

Do this at your own risk:
Your system partition is corrupt, you need to enter adb shell and format /system into ext4s. Search on google for the command as I do not have it on the top of my head. I believe it has something to do with make_ext4s function.

Pedro, I have the same problem.
I can only access bootloader and recovery, but using adb sideload I can't flash any image (and version) that works.
I just get boot looping as you, and gpt.bin and motoboot.img files can't be flashed.
I've found that with Lollipop bootloader we can't install an older Android version.
My Moto G is now a paperweight, until the final stock Lollipop comes.

Hi, I experienced the same problem. Have you fixed your phone? Please give me some suggestion. Thank you.
Same problem with my Moto G 2013.
I've tried to downgrade and got problem. Now I can't flash an older motoboot.img and gpt.bin.
I'm using CyanogenMod 12, but every time when I boot, there is a line going down over the screen.
This line only disappear when I turn off and on the screen. Then everything backs to normal.
Is there a way to solve this?
This happened to me yesterday, i wento from my US Retail 4.4.4 to BR Retail 4.4.4 then via stock recovery flashing the OTA of 5.0, installed Xposed but gave me slow boots, like 5 min per boot, so i decided to downgrade, flashed 4.4.4 BR but after boot a black screen comes and doesn't go, think of flashing 4.4.2 US but the same isue, then decided to update again to 5.0 BR but stock recovery don't let me flash because an error, i flashed philz touch and do a factory reset, wipe data, cache, and everything, then flashed flashing 4.4.4 BR and then 4.4.2 US, the line down problem is nothing, only appears when you boot and, if you lock your phone for about 2-3 seconds, it dissappear (until you boot again), hope it helps, sorry for bad english
For all with bootloops, there is a major issue caused with a boot animation memory leak. Search on the forum to find the fix. You may need to delete the bootanimation binary.

Moto G not Booting, HELP
Hi everyone, I really need help with my moto G, it´s not booting into android after pressing the power button the moto logo comes up and the phone goes directly into fastboot displaying a message in pink color: version downgrade for boot
Failed to validate boot image.
I have been hours checking around for a solution and working now for the third day trying to solve the problem with no luck.
I have downloaded the original firmware for the device, tried to flash it and it doesn´t work, tried other countries firmware and they doesn´t work either.
The process will be partially ok but as it goes to flash the boot.img, recovery and system files it will give an error.
I also tried bootloader refresh, bootloader bricker and blankflash to try fix any possible bootloader issues.
The device has a locked bootloader since it is a moto g from AIO.
Please Help, It´s my only device and I cannot afford another one at this time.
There´s a few images from the flash process and device info
:crying:
You need to unlock your bootloader in order to flash various ROMs.
but in this model the bootloader cannot be unlocked it is CID 0X0010
How did this happen to your phone? What model phone do you have?
It´s a Moto G 2013, xt1032
It all begin trying to install a signed stock firmware that was supposed to be for that specific model: AIO_XT1032_4.4.2-KXB20.9-1.10-1.9_CFC_1FF.xml
During the flash process it send some error messages but the process keep running until it finishes, once the device reboot it went straight to fastboot and since then I haven´t been able to get it back working.
Are you manually flashing each partition?
Maybe try a 4.4.4 ROM.
Yes, I have. I´ve also tried other signed firmware that have a .bat file that run all by itself but neither way it worked. It comes up with the error message: Invalid signed Image and below Preflash Validation Fail

[Q] Hard bricked or what?

Hello, everyone.
So basically this is my issue. One day at work my Moto G restarted randomly and has been stuck in a bootloop ( boot animation cycles infinitely ).
I can access fastboot, booting to recovery freezes on TWRP logo.
My phone is rooted, unlocked and etc. I have tried flashing stock firmware, no changes, not even my custom boot logo and animation don't change.
I have tried using fastboot to erase everything and format but formatting fails saying this filesystem cannot be formatted.
I can access my files by booting into another recovery using fastboot boot recovery.img ( tried with PhilZ ) although it shows everything as it was before this all this ( all files gone, only directories left ).
I noticed that I could use ADB while stuck at TWRP logo. I tried pushing roms and using booted PhilZ to find them but they never appear, I can only push to /tmp, anything else doesn't exists although is shown through booted PhilZ.
I have tried using mkfs.ext4 to format my filesystem, everything went as it should but nothing changed.
TL;DR Bootloop, recovery does not open, fastboot flashing does nothing, adb push doesn't push anything
What the hell is going on with my phone? Any ideas people?
Somehow, your file system can't be accessed....was your phone encrypted?

It wasn't, I never encrypted it.
Also fastboot getvar all shows that my partition type is RAW.
Shouldn't it be F2FS or EXT4?
Maybe anyone has a proper partition mount point list for the Moto G?
I would try mkfs.ext4 formatting every possible mount point (cache, data, system and etc)
For example dev/block/mmcblk0p38
I found a Moto X mount point list but I have no clue if it's the same or not

I think I might have a similar situation. Can you give me an advice on how to confirm this?
The only difference in the circumstances is that my fiance's moto g has a custom recovery on it then she tired to install the 5.1 update. Then it would boot into the OS and after while would shut down then go to the recovery. I thought I had solved the issue by doing a factory reset. Everything was going fine until I turn it off. Now I get the boot animation and then a black screen. I can get the load screen on the custom recovery but that is it The computer can still recognize the phone.
Does this sound like your situation?

Even if you try to flash another ROM, it will never install.
You can't modify any files because the memory is ****ed.

Moto G 1st Gen XT1033 Boot Loop on Stock Lollipop

My Moto G (XT1033) 1st Gen with stock lollipop has stuck in a boot loop.
I am still able to go in to recovery mode. Have tried clearing cache, but that didn't seem to work.
I don't have CWM installed it's pure android as stock have installed updates only through OTAs.
Have googled about it and many are stating that a factory reset will solve the issue. But I don't want to lose data in the phone.
Main reason for the boot loop could be App as I use beta versions of Facebook, Whatsapp and Nova launcher from apkmirror.
What can be done to recover data or just get this boot loop fixed?
P.S: My device is not rooted and does not have any CWM or TWRP recovery.
I have got exactly the same issue yesterday itself. It was working fine, even received a call after which it was placed on a table. Picked up a few moments later & it was switched off. After that, whenever i'm trying to turn it on, its stuck on the M Logo - Powered by Android i.e Bootloop.
My phone was full stock and totally untouched as well. There weren't any apps installed from sources apart from Play Store. I'm able to access the stock recovery and tried clearing the cache but no respite. Whenever i try to factory format that, it gives an error of e:/could't mount /cache/recovery/xxxxxxxx errors.
I had read the forums for similar issues and got to know from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/moto-g-bootup-problem-recovery-mode-t3122492. The issue is cent percent same apart from the fact that i can access stock recovery.
Maybe @ravibhat & @lost101 can help us in this. I'm not worried about getting the data but bringing the phone back to life is more important for me !! Please help.

oh okay mate. I have been googling for such issue but the mostly suggested method is reset that I haven't done (not to lose data). Will wait for a day if I get any solution otherwise will reset it.
Let me know what happened to your phone. Hope it gets fixed soon
okay so here's the update. Was successful to take backup as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426426
And made factory reset after that but now it is still getting stuck on bootloop with M logo and powered by android screen. :crying:
I gave my phone to the service center guys today for reflashing the firmware. They were unable to do and suggested a motherboard replacement for which i obviously refused as they asked for ~INR 8000 as charges. So will start experimenting with it now and hope so i'm able to bring back to life.
What i'm planning is:
1. Flash Custom Recovery.
2. Wipe entire phone.
3. Flash stock ROM.
Will keep updating if i'm able to manage anything
EDIT : Did everything mentioned above but the phone is having same fate as before @krunalshah68. It gets stuck on the M Logo :crying: The internal memory although is being shown as 5xxx MB in TWRP unlike 0 Mb earlier.
Unlock Bootloader (if not already done) and flash twrp - mfastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Alternatively you can boot into twrp without flashing: mfastboot boot twrp.img
Download twrp: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/recovery-twrp-2-8-2-0-touch-recovery-t2980621
Then via PC, do the following wipe: (requires working ADB setup - google it)

Thank you for you reply mate. :good:
I have somehow managed to backup data by script. but the problem is now even after resetting it is still stuck into bootloop.
But I am a bit confused here in steps.
1) Unlock bootloader
2) Flash custom recovery like TWRP and clear dalvik cache
3) and then flash any custom rom
correct me if I am wrong. I am going to follow these steps. @lost101
Phone started! yeeey!
So heres the update bro @BBThumbHealer.
Unlocked bootloader.
Flashed TWRP.
Cleared cache/dalvik cache/data.
Flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/nx-nexus-experience-rom-10-0-3-ambient-t3268555/
And device is working smooth as silk now and that too with Marshmallow !:fingers-crossed:
Let me know your status bro. Hope I could help you in some way
@krunalshah68 : Great to know bro that ur phone is as good as new now .. Many congratulations
As far as mine is concerned, did the following :
1. Unlocked bootloader
2. Flashed TWRP Recovery v3.0.2
3. Using mfastboot, flashed stock 5.0.2 and the phone booted up successfully finally !!
But now here's the catch, the phone once flashed up with a rom boots up fine for a single time only. Within that time frame, every damn thing works fine. Able to browse the net, configure apps & settings , blah blah etc etc ... every single thing. But as soon as i restart the phone, the rom fails to startup. It gets stuck on the boot loop.
Initially i thought the rom might have been corrupt, but then i tried the following roms:
1. Stock 5.1 Optimized as posted by @lost101
2. crDroid CM 13 6.0.1
And again the same fate was met.
And yes, i've been installing the above roms by flashing the zips in twrp. After every flash, cleared dalvik, cache & data.
Maybe the fellow members @lost101 @ravibhat can give some insight what's happening ! :crying :
Hello guys, My phone is stuck on bootloop
I have already rooted device and now it is stuck on bootloop even the Recovery isn't opening. I know I would have to reset the phone with mfastboot but I want my internal storage to be backed up before doing all this Is there anyway to do so? Anyone here can help me out?
@sahil_arora05 : if you are able to access the bootloader mode, with the help of mfastboot, flash the latest version of twrp for moto g (mfastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img). After that, connect an otg disk to ur handset, boot into twrp and you'll be able to see all your files in the internal storage using the inbuilt file explorer for twrp. With that you can copy all ur data from the handset to the otg drive.

Hi Guys,
phone : Moto G (XT1033), Falcon
- stuck in bootloop
- able to go to recovery
- unable to flash custom recovery such as twrp or cwm
- as suggested,
1. Unlocked the bootloader successfully, can see code status = 3 in recovery mode
mfastboot oem unlock <CODE>2. Unable to flash twrp. It writes successfully but shows stock recovery only
mfastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-falcon.img3. so tried booting twrp using with success
mfastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-0-falcon.img4. cleaned cache, dalvik etc.
5 using twrp, used ADB which enables MTP which let me transfer Android6.0.1_NX_R10.3.3_MotoG2013.zip to internal memory
6 Using twrp to flash ROM - Android6.0.1_NX_R10.3.3_MotoG2013.zip
It seems it started installing but its been more than one hour and it seems its still doing something.
It has stuck at - "Patching system image unconditionally..."
is this normal? Did I miss anything?
Appreciate help in advance. thank you for your time...

Access BL and stock recovery but stuck in logo

good night. my brother has a moto g on the 5.1 version i guess, never rooted or custom recovery. after a 0% battery and no charge, the device stucked in logo of motorola
the first option is save the device, but data is very important to rescue, so it's priority to me.
the BL was locked, to try flash something i unlock it without loose data, i guess...
i can access BL, 41,1A version. tried fastboot and mfastboot to flash 5.0.2 retail rom and 5.1 stock with no success, boot loop of warning!!
can acess recovery, but can wipe data/factory reset, give a error and boot loop.
adb it's only sideload, and give error of footer, no install any of any file.
on adb apply update from sdcard i can view all my folders that i want to bkp, but how i get them? push and pull doesn't work.
I'm doing something wrong, just do not know what it is...
can someone help me? i read a lot of threads!!
i got this error when try wipe factory reset on stock recovery
blkdiscard on partition /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc failed
and that's it. just wait like another brick in another falcon device.
tks 4 those who read and do nothing!!!

Moto G bootloop not loading into TWRP, not taking any fastboot flashes

Hey guys,
I got a moto g here which has a bootloop (cyanogenmod is installed).
I tried to boot TWRP but it also doesnt boot up fully - only showing the TWRP splash screen.
So I went and got the factory image and flashed that with fastboot - but even though there were no error messages it seems that nothing actually sticked on the phone.
When I try to boot it still booting CM and when I try to enter stock recovery its still the TWRP?!
Tried flashing CWM but its still TWRP..
Any ideas on how to fix it, or is this problem "known" or smth?
Seems like this is a hardware failure - like internal memory broken.

Try using the mfastboot package, install the Motorola USB drivers if you haven't done so and flash the ROM, as per the instructions here:

Seeing as I assume your phone responds to key presses, you can ignore the dismantling part of the instructions provided.

thanks for your reply!
unfortunately I already tried to install the stock rom with fastboot and mfastboot - every step would be processed, but in the end the phone was just in the same state - with twrp and cyanogenmod on it - both not booting,
Funny thing is that when i boot to twrp i can actually adb to the phone while it bootloops twrp - I tried placing and removing files in data but they would just disappear or reapper aka the device was still just as before.
Whats weird though is that I never get a single error message - it just takes all commands and stuff but they dont stick?! never had a phone like that. Usually the flashes fail or smth if the memory is broken,

That's massively odd - have you tried unbricking the device by forcefully bricking it then unbricking it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/how-to-revive-hard-bricked-moto-g-t2833798
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/how-to-unbrick-moto-g-falcon-t3394788
If you have tried everything, then I cannot help you any further sadly.
@zroice
try
Code:
fastboot boot TWRP.img
maybe flashed TWRP can't mount /data or other partition
