Recovery on Droid Maxx/Ultra? - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wanted to flash a recovery on motorola droid maxx running kitkat 4.4.4. Since the bootloader is locked, i think, only Safestrap can work... the phone is rooted, but since its on kitkat, my guess in safestrap 3.65 WONT work on it... I had downloaded the safestrap apk but on clicking install recovery, the process was completed but nothing was installed, I guessed that it was due to absence of busybox, now can anyone help me installing busybox AND safestrap on this device??

Need Helping Getting XT926 To Accept OTA Update

I have been trying to get my phone to update following the directions for the past year almost and have had no luck.
EDIT*: I am trying to do the OTA update that i am being prompted to do (9.16.6)
I am on:
Android Version 4.1.1
System Verison 9.1.41XT926
Bootloader: unlocked
Safestrap
I am trying to get to Android 4.3 but when I go to voodoo OTA rootkeeper and temp unroot then download and try and install the update my phone reboots like its starting the install but then shows the android the with the ! coming out of him then it restarts and upon restart it tells me that the update failed.
What am I doing wrong and how can I get these updates to work!
Thanks,
Tyler Hegamyer
There isn't an official 4.3. And if your trying to flash a custom 4.3 you need to be unlocked running a custom recovery.

i would suggest abandoning ss unless the rom you want is only supported through ss (rare but possible).
i would:
-disable ss
-use the 1.33 utility in the dev forum to update and return to the latest stock
-use the same utility to root
-use the same utility to flash a custom recovery
--boot into recovery and witpe data/cache/"data-media(cwm recovery specific)" to be sure everything is gone
-choose the rom of your chice from the dev forum and flash in recovery as directed by the rom's dev.
Don't use safe strap. Delete the partion and uninstall it. Use cwm or twrp. And might want to change the title then your not accepting a ota your flashing a custom rom.

I'm also having some troubles. Trying to apply the new update (rooted with stock 4.1.2) keeps resulting in "signature verification failed" in CWM. I have to then wipe the cache so it doesn't keep trying to reboot and apply the update. I've also tried unfreezing all the bloat in TitaniumBackup but got the same results.
Does anyone know a solution for this?
EDIT: I've also tried running OTA rootkeeper app and it still failed.

the ota will not work through a custom recovery such as cwm, you need to put the stock recovery back on.

[Q] Cant Install any custom ROMs

Ok, this is weird, a while ago i didnt had any problems installing any kind of custom rom, used CWM while wiping everything... eveything was OK, ROM worked OK, etc... But one time i installed a ROM (Slimkat) and i lost signal, tried to use my recovery of stock android but it didnt work, so i tried a lot of things untill i got bootlop without being able to install anything since some files were missing, bad luck
After that, i just reflash stock 4.3 and upgrade from there 4.4.2, everything fine again... except that i cant install any kind of ROM, every ROM says "installation succesful" but everyone is stuck into bootloop.
While i havent tried ALL ROMS i have tried the same ones i was using (Nexus G+, LiquidSmooth and CM11), so i guess this problem is coming from my device.
On a side note, i tried to factory reset, but no luck... it shows the Android working but it inmediately turns the screen off, and then it shows it again and then off again... in an infinite loop
Same problem!
Bump.
I just got my Moto G yesterday (European XT1032), updated to 4.4.2, unlocked bootloader, rooted with superboot and flashed Philz Touch CWM.
Seems I have done everything by the book, wipes included, but no luck. I tried Slimkat, Paranoid and Codename Lungo (latest builds as of 3/12).

Hmmm... Pay attention to which version of Bootloader you are using.
You might want to try both 4.3 and 4.4 to see which one would work.
Extract the motoboot.img from the stock .zip image for your phone, then flash with mflashboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
Good luck!

Thanks. I'll give that a try. Is there a way to check bootloader version on the phone? If that doesn't work out I'll start from scratch and report back in this thread..

Hmmm.. I see there is a version number on mine, 41.05 dated 2013-12-06, but I'm not sure if that's the version or not.
And yeah... if changing the bootloader doesn't help, you probably would have to restore from the stock image and start over..
Got root and custom roms working after I 1.) downgraded to 4.3 and 2.) flash TWRP (instead of CWM).
So I'm not sure what the problem was. Besides the two main rooting methods (superboot and custom recovery), there are some other methods described on the forum specifically for people who already did a international variant OTA to 4.4.2. and one that is absolete (here) but apparently works for some when the two main methods fail.
However I'm still not sure if this solved everything. I am not sure if I can flash Cyanogenmod (which is 4.4.2) over a 4.3 firmware. Maybe I need to manually flash a 4.4.2 radio or something... Gonna check that out next...
EDIT: No need to downgrade. Not sure how it works but two main root methods (superboot and custom recovery) didn't work for me. Somehow I got stuck in boot animation. Just installed TWRP instead of CWM after Kitkat firmware (EU Retail) and rooted (/installed Super Su) from there. Everything works fine now.

help installing 4.1.2 ROM

Hey all,
Its been a while since I have messed around with my XT926 and I am having some trouble flashing a 4.1.2 ROM on it. What I've done so far is to RSDLite to a 4.4.2 build (one that is still compatible with boot loader unlock) and unlocked the boot loader. I was having trouble getting a recovery to flash other than epinters cwm and twrp 2.8. I tried flashing nexesue v3.6 in both recoveries but am stuck on the Motorola symbol on blot. If I RSDLite back to a 4.1.2 build can I then flash an older recovery and then the ROM?
EDIT: phone is also rooted using towelroot.
Any help is appreciated.
DID you try twrp 7.1.0?

See my post, had problem to install Nexesque too, but had success with specific CWM version. Also try to wipe all and flash boot.img as the op in Nexesque has stated.

[Q] Is there a Safestrap that works with 183.46.15?

After months of kicking myself for upgrading the software to 183.46.15 from 183.46.10, I finally achieved root thanks to the Hydrogen Peroxide root tool. After attempting many different Safestrap apks, I can't get any of them to work. I found a different recovery that will boot but it's basically a poor version of CWM recovery that doesn't allow for ROM slots. I know that the phone isn't the issue with lack of booting into Safestrap, it's the Safestrap apps that aren't compatible with my phone's current version. Since goo.im isn't up and I can't find a mirror, does anyone have a Safestrap apk that does work with a rooted 183.46.15?
Safestrap development stopped at JellyBean so nothing available for KitKat
Is there any recovery which isn't bootstrapped for .15 firmware .... I am using stock cwm but it won't unless i click reboot to recovery... So it's kinda risky to flash anything.... Also backup works but this bootstrap function is a problwm how can i get rid of that....

That would be nice if there is safestrap for 183.46.15. But unfortunately its not there yet :crying:
this is safestrap source code, maybe someone has to take hands on it to make it work with the xt926
BTW, there is a "motorola-ghost" branch, as you know, Razr HD 3.4 kernel has "almost" the same Moto X kernel on 4.4.2.. nobody tried/searched for moto x safetrap and tested on the xt926?? maybe works, maybe not, try it at your own risk

(Q) Install Xposed with no custom recovery?

Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to successfully install xposed on Moto Gs without having a custom recovery installed. I'm asking for this because I don't want to mess too much with my phone and to keep it as clean as possible.
Thank you
Moto G XT1032
Rooted
5.1 Brazil
Bootloader unlocked
As far as I know there's no possibility to install xposed for Lollipop without custom recovery. But I don't understand why you don't want to flash a recovery when you have already "messed" your device with unlocked bootloader and root! It is just one step forward.
Sent from my XT1039 using XDA Free mobile app
Well the bootloader can be locked again and the root can be removed as well. Maybe custom recovery too?
Alternatively, can the custom recovery be flashed temporary to then flash xposed?
But even if you lock it again motorola already knows it and when you lock it again it will show a different code from the original locked one
You can temporarily boot into a custom recovery and install xposed.
Just type fastboot boot <thenameoftherecovery>
