Turn off pen detection setting? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note5

Under the "S Pen" settings, the setting is labeled "Turn off pen detection". When I turn it on, does it turn off pen detection? Those double negatives...

I hate double negatives too. You never know if the dev got it right or not. But in this case I think the dev got it right. Turn the setting to on, and it turns detection off.

Take your s pen out and set it down and walk away. If you get alerts reminding you to put it back, then it's on.

[Q] Double Tap To Wake While On A Table

According to a tweet from HTC (https://twitter.com/htc/status/461511570959663104), you're supposed to be able to double tap the screen while it is sleeping in order to wake the device.
This doesn't work for me unless I do it really hard or have it in my hand. Anyone have the same experience? Any setting I need to change? Maybe it's my ROM? (Skyfall)
Are you using enough of your finger to tap it?
On mine I have to almost tap it with the full pad of the end of my finger. I can't just double-tap with the tip of my finger.
Yeah, that's never worked for me either. It seems like the sensor only gets activated once I pick it up.
Yeah someone in marketing was misinformed. Unless you're using a custom kernel, you need to move the device first to get it to wake from a tap or swipe
Thanks for the feedback. I ask because someone tweeted @ me: "Bring your unit back to the carrier you purchased it from. It's worked fine for us with no issue at all."
For me, I tap the screen once and then double tap it right after. Seems to do the job.

Settings, display and gestures, g sensor calibration. Calibrate it poorly intentionally slanted against a book or whatnot. It thinks your device is tilted when it is laying down.

well really its like this ==> Settings/Display & gestures/Motion Launch Gestures/HELP =(look (close its really there =] ) and then under Double tap it reads "Pick up the phone in portrait orientation and double tap to wake " but if I really double tap mine while its laying flatly screen up with some force it wakes just make sure you really give it good tapping.
Other than that test to see if picking it first portrait orientation and give it a few taps and see if it wakes.
I just saw the post above mine that is a great answer/work around. I like that kind of thinking.

I was going to reply with this exact method until I saw that you did so.
This works, and resolves the issue completely. now a light double tap even turns on the screen while it is laying flat.
It's a pretty simple concept. Unlike the LG G2, this phone came with some more smarts to save battery. The G2 device is ALWAYS active to receive phone taps, thus using more battery. The M8 device only once the phone is in motion it turns on the sensor to recieve any kind of double tap, thus saving battery! Pretty nice IMO and smart. Motion control window says itself you need to pick up device then double tap to activate.
For people who want to bypass this you can:
A. Tap the phone hard while on a desk thus causing the phone to move around waking up the motion sensor to activate double tap.
B. Give the G Sensor setting a bad setting so when device is laid flat on a surface the phone thinks it's not flat thus activating the double tap feature all the time thus using more battery.
So either love the feature for what it is or don't and us more battery.
The M8 double-tap to wake requires you to pick up the phone. The double-tap motion is not enough. If you double tap it while flat on a table it may work but usually it does not or very inconsistent.. Lift it and it will always work.
What's happening is when you move or pick up the phone the proximity sensor is activated, allowing the double-tap function to work, but after a few seconds of leaving it on the table, the sensor will shut off until it is disturbed again.

Not quite. Pick it up upside down and tap - nothing will happen. Double tap to wake works only right side up in portrait - which makes a lot of Sense.
You don't want anything to wake it when it's upside down in your pocket, right?

Interesting!
Actually I notice what's also keeping the double-tap function to work is the light senor, regardless the phone's position.
The sensor is located left of the front camera; try covering it up and see if you can double-tap to wake your phone

Just tried it: Yes I can
No.. You definitely can't. Either you're not covering the sensor or you're not using a Verizon m8.
Confirmed.. Cover sensor, DT2W doesn't work.

Hey how are things ?
No idea if supported on this device but wouldn't Swipe to Wake (Up) be better solution to Double Tap?
PS Need you over on Nexus 6P.

Anyone know a mod to turn off the slide to turn on screen feature?

I am running the GPE Rom, and love that I can double tap the screen to turn it on. However, I never use the slide to turn screen on feature, and it always turns it on in my hand randomly on in my pocket. Anyone know of any miss or apps to keep the double tap, but remove the slide motion launch feature? Thanks
I don't have a direct answer but are you sure it's waking up in you pocket via slide to wake? It would think it far more likely to pocket double tap then to pocket slide if that makes sense. I've avoided dt2w for that reason alone.

Try putting it in your pocket TOP DOWN. The slide to turn on goes from the bottom up, so if you're dropping it in your pocket bottom down the screen "may" read the friction as a slide up and open the screen before it hits the bottom of your pocket!

keeps turning screen on in pocket

Is there any way to get a pocket option on this phone?
It keeps turning the screen on in my pocket and whenever I pull it out it says fingerprint tried too many times and I even turned off tap to wake and double tap to wake and it still does it in my pocket
Any advice?

You can use tap to wake or double tap to wake. Try turning off pick up your phone to show in ambient display settings.
I have that off and tap to wake on and don't get screen wakes in my pocket.

Tap to wake, double tap to wake, sweep to wake, all useless (here). Phone will wake up no matter what, will send random texts, change my ringtones, call people, all while in pocket.
It's amazing something like this can happen on a flagship phone in 2019. But... I guess "they're working on it". :good:

Sounds like you have body detection on. So try going in to security & lockscreen / smart Lock then turn off on body detection. Hope it helps.

Tap to show lock screen (double tap) does not work when ambient display is off

Is anyone else having the same issue?
Double tap only works when the ambient display is showing (the clock before the lock screen).
If you turn off ambient display all together, double tap does not work.

Double tap works for me without ambient display being on.
I'm on stock 58.0.A.28.51.
Looks like it's one of the system apps whose permission I modified.
I just did a factory reset
It seems like a common issue with this phone. My tap to wake has never worked properly and it's driving me insane. Tap tap tap TAP TAAAAP, then it works. Sometimes.
Does anyone have a solution for this before I throw it out of the second floor window?
Yeah, that's one of the very few annoying things. I wonder if it has to do with the screen protector? There have been user reports of lower touch sensitivity (mostly at the edges of the screen) due to screen protectors.
Double tap isn't working again when ambient display is set to "OFF" and I have not messed around with system app permissions.
I did verify that 2x tap is working after I debloated the phone with AD set to "OFF". Not sure what has changed since then because I have not used this phone since debloat.
More details:
-2x tap will only work when AD is showing
-for as long as AD is showing that clock, 2x tap works
Double tap and lag-free notifications should work much better when you set "Smart activation" in Ambient display settings (lokk in "When to show Ambient display" settings).
Same issues, tried many things mentioned here and more ... you'd think simple things like this would work flawlessly in a high end phone. Really tired of digging and digging in the phone and online to find solutions, so frustrating. Sony will have to make something extraordinary in the future to convince me to buy another phone from them ...
It's way too long time have passed from the last post, but I was wondering about the same issue of double tap when searching for the answer had led me to this topic. I've recently bought two same phones, not Sony but Nokia 5.4 with Android 10 and stucked in gesture unlock too. Though this topic didn't helped me, later I've found the solution by myself and eager to share the way that did worked for me with everyone.
So, if the double tap to wake up the screen suddenly stopped working, try this:
1) go to Settings-System-Gestures
2) find the "double-tap wake" option and turn it OFF
3) back to home screen and lock the phone with the power button
4) unlock the phone with any way
5) go to Settings-System-Gestures
6) find the "double-tap wake" option and turn it ON
That's all, your favorite unlocking must work again (well, both my phones were healed). Good luck! )
Inversely, you can't disable tap to wake on the AOD.
Infuriating.
In any case, 3-taps always works for me
Including this phone and Pixel 2XL.

Samsung Galaxy watch 5, possible to turn off haptic feedback when using bezel?

Anytime I scroll with the touch-sensitive bezel, my watch vibrates. Is there any way to disable this without disabling vibration for notifications? I haven't found anything. I want to turn just this feature off to help save battery life.
Thanks!
Oh never mind, I found it. What was confusing was that you have to click on the button to toggle the bezel on and off (which I didn't want to do because I wanted it to stay on, just not vibrate). Once you click on it from Settings/General/touch bezel, then you can just switch off haptic feedback.
