Are manual camera options locked like on z3 or not? - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have always heard from here and there that Z3 has a great camera. I got one and use it along with my Moto G 2014. When comparing the photos by these two camera, I really wonder if I'm missing anything or it's what called as quality.
The point is every single photos I shoot by Z3 is whitish...Every light is exaggerated...Here I add photos taken with Moto HDR mode and Z3 Auto Manual (8MP/HDR). I can't get any photos without extra lights/white in!
Honestly, I like the quality of photos taken by Moto G ( regardless of MP ) as the colors are deep and not whitish always. If you check last image of below photos, you can see Moto G can retrieve darker areas even better than Sony.
Is my Z3 camera damaged? Or is this called quality? Please advise your ideas.

[Q] How to improve Snapchat photos quality?

Sometimes the photos that I send with Snapchat becomes to have poor quality compared to another people with iPhones or something like that.
My smartphone is a Xperia L, with 8MP cam and KK 4.4.4.
I believe that its something about DPI, because my display have 4.3" and my screen 854x480.
Can someone help me?

Camera Z3v, Note 4, droid turbo

Hey guys I hope you all can help me out. I've loved the specs on Verizon's Z3 variant, but the camera, which is the most important thing to me, seems lacking. Granted I couldn't take pictures outside and the store has horrible lights, but what have you guys found outside of the store. I'll upload the 3 phones photos, but honestly my note 2 pictures look better than these. From left to right Turbo, Sony, Samsung
The turbo's shot didn't focus on anything. if cameras are important, avoid the droid. between the sony and samsung, there are drawbacks for both. the sony seems a bit washed out while the samsung has over saturated colors that certainly don't reflect reality very well. most important to remember on the sony camera, unless you change the settings, it is taking 8MP pictures. The superior mode sounds like it is anything but. manual focus is the way to go on the sony. all reports i've seen on the droid turbos battery life are saying it doesn't come anywhere close to the claims.
That pic for the Z3v looks TERRIBLE, either there's something wrong with it or the lens was caked with fingerprints or something. Not normal.
Z3 is better with manual as Sony's auto mode is pretty bad, and it does really well in low light. My G2 daylight shots I must admit are better.

[Q] Photography Tips?

One of the reasons I got the Zperia Z3 was because I was under the impression that it had a great camera. Now all I have read on this forum is about the poor camera quality, especially in low light.
Do you have any tips or tricks on how to take better pictures with the Z3? Special Manuel settings? Use a different Camera app like the Google Camera? What works best for taking low light pictures? Etc?

:good: hilarious!
Generally speaking, the Z3 isn't terribly different than other smartphones, but it is a lot more configurable.
In super low light, I actually find that the mode superior auto chooses will work pretty well.
In good light, I find the key is to remember that the Z3 will have a "shallower" range of focus (depth of focus) than other smartphones, so making sure you tap the area you want the picture to be focused on is important.
Finally, the dedicated camera button is dual-stage, the first is to lock focus, this is a great feature. The more you use this, the more you'll find that you'll get the pictures you want.
Pick manual mode, 20mp, touch to focus, and use the on screen camera button. Using the physical button introduces a lot of camera shake which really shows up on 20mp shots.
I find the 20mp shots come out brilliant.
Waiting on an update to improve Superior auto.
I have found that :
>for general photos default mode is ok
> for panorama shots google camera
> for macros Camera - FV-5 manual settings 15.5 MP 16:9, really good
Have a Z3 D6603 , no Pink spots

I am not sure why people go on about poor low light, it is not the best out there but it is hardly poor. It's better than most point and shoot cameras. Each iteration of the Z series cameras improves slightly on the quality.
Here is a shot, handheld low light ISO2000, superior auto with a Sony Z1

Here is an early firmware Z1 low light ISO800

Manual mode will give you the best results, plus allow you to get 20MP shots.
Here is a macro'ish shot manual mode, at full size you can see the pollen details, depth of field shallow due to the F2 aperture (again old Sony Z1)

Will get out and take some shots with the Z3 today or tomorrow.

Z3 Camera Issues

Hi peeps,
I am not sure about you guys, but I am very happy abt Z3 camera and its features, I came from Z1 and the camera is good too!
I notice some did mention or some of my friends saying Sony camera suck and that the Z3 camera is not as good as samsung s3 or other brands bah bah bah....
But I asked, what Sony phones are you conparing with and what are the camera or display settings of the Z3 phones. Then I reliased the following issues
1) Some are using Xperia Z ultra to compare with Samsung S3. Z ultra only have 8 MP and no ISO settings so if u want to use a mid range camera to fight with a higher range phone who will lose out? Just like I used a 20MP Z3 with the same setting I will surely win...
He also mention the Z ultra camera pic cannot tell the color difference between white and yellowish white but when I took the same pic, with my Z3, he was shocked....
2) Z3 camera by default has set to 8/15 MP for 16:9. So the pic is not the best yet. You need to change the settings....
3) Off the HDR & Display Enhencment settings, u will see a better quality photo on screen and on PC...
4) If you are using matt, anti finger print or privacy screen protectors, please dont even bother to complain abt the screen quality.... You are using a few dollar to cover up 100 dollar stuff...
5) Only a few case is factory defects which need u to send out for repairs... Nothing is perfect just that u are the few unlucky ones to get a defected product...
I agree with you! I also don't have any complain about the camera at all. It performs well without a hitch. Superb quality and detail.
All I disagree with is the screen one. The screen isn't very good with or without a screen protector. Brightness at the expense of screen quality is a bad move.
z3- lg g3
Sony does not make fkus even after 10 times autofocus, lg g3 first picture is extra

Xperia xz dual sim, camera noise

Hi All,
I am still experimenting my new xz dual.
I noticed that the pics taken by its camera.. When u zoom in, there is noticable noise in the pictures and not what i expected at all from a phone advertised as a camera with an additional phone ?.
I am coming from samsung galasy s6+ and the pics looked better when it comes to the details with the zoom in to the picture.
So.. What do you think.. Is the problem with my eye? And what is the best settings for the xperia xz camera?
It is on nougat.
Thanks
Use manual settings.

Thanks... but can you elaborate more? like camera resolution settings, what to enable what to disable.. extra.
When you use 23 mega pixel sensore and use F2.0 with 24mm lens, you can't catch light very well.
Test this:
When you take picture out-door and middle of the day, XZ shot better than S6,S7,Pixel etc
Because you have bright environment and G-lense can get all light. Little noises and more details.
Set you device on 23mp (or 20mp for landscape shot)
When you shot in-door, better set you device on 8mp!
* NOTE: Google Pixel take amazing photos, why?
Smartphones can't compete with expensive DSLR camera in optical area. Use big pixel+less pixels is the real solution! (or make a giant camera like Nokia 808 and Samsung Galaxy camera).
Sony must learn some thing are more important then number of pixels! (and new flagship, Xperia XZ premium have 19mp and large pixel!!! Good for you sony)

Test different mode, iso, shot speed, resolution, etc yourself and finding better model.
i had xperia z,z2,z5 and now xz and i can confirm that its definetly far better then predecesors maybe z5 compete a little bit...ill share u my xperiance xz camera....i always use 20-23mp for landscape pictures because it captures more details but only if there is enough light outside... if there is low light i always use less MP so in my case 8mp and i play a little bit with shutterspeed and iso thats it...but dont expect XZ to have same lowlight shots like sgs7 does(i had one) ...s7 is simply the best in the lowlight area cuz of camera lens and pixel size... u cant have the best from both worlds
Sony update camera app...
You find app inside apkmirror
1-faster launch
2-slow motion mode inside maine UI
3-fix little lags when change between front and back camera
4- a little better focus and little noise when shot in-door mode
Bad thing: you can't install that like normal app install. Device must be rooted and apk inject /system/priv-app
I test updated camera... More test and shoot share soon. Post update soon.
