[Q] Broken Micro USB Port

Okay so my usb port has been a bit annoying the past week - where i had to vigorously wiggle the cable to get it to charge or to sync (and even when it did decide to connect to the computer, it would chop out eventually)
But now it's no longer charging or being recognized by my comp
It's strange because the headphone adapter was working fine, and so was the usb host, but it just wont charge anymore - I effectively now have a dead TG01
Currently, i'll get the orange light, telling me it's charging, but when i try to power on, nothing happens...
So i'm thinking a new USB port which is where I need some help: I'm not sure on what part to get
But maybe This is the one? Comparing the images with the ones found on the net of the TG01 (Yep - I still haven't got mine open yet)
But yeah, just a heads up on whether you think it would work would be epic, or whether you think i should just try a different battery/charger/throw it away (Although i'm almost certain it's the port, as it was working intermitently before - it's now gone altogether)

Wall charger, but i tried USB, and still no luck
It just wont charge at all, regardless of the orange light when plugged in now that it's off (though i wouldn't get it when the phone did still have charge left and was therefore still switched on...)

BUMP: Any ideas you clever people? Just some guidance would be nice...
I'm still without my beloved TG01, I'm having to use a **** old Samsung G600

I do have some problems of my own with my USB cable. I believe the problems are due to the cable, though. The wall charger works fine. The USB cable that I use, has to stay somehow "forced"... imagine having the cell laying face up on a desk. The USB cable gets out and is forced by a small pen that stays right near the cellphone, to have a 30% slope upwards, so pushing a bit the cable onto the upper part of the USB port. I do know that you are telling us a different issue, however, maybe this way you could check whether it's just a broken connection and not a completely dead port.

No, this sounds like the exact issue i had...
It was like this with the Charger and USB - where i had to force it to be recognised or charged, and it would still cut out after a while - and wiggling it or knocking it wouldn't actually affect it, it would be of it's own accordance...
But it was strange because the headphone adapter worked fine...
Nothing happens at all now though

Are you try: Settings- Connections- USB to PC- unmark Enable advanced network functionality

I can't turn the phone on because it wont charge, so it's not that

Battery may be defective. Try with any 5V charger, connect directly to battery pin in 10 min

It vaguely remembers me of something I read on the forum about different micro usb (explaining my different cables do not connect just the same, some easy, some bit forced); I think there also was a drawing. (but I don't have time to search for the exact thread; it was not the "solving usb port mistery one))
Maybe your earphone adaptator don't have exactly the same as your charger? And if it is not battery trouble, find a charger with the "very right" micro usb plug?

I understand why you say it could be the battery problem with the charger - but it doesn't explain the intermittent connection with my computer when using the USB cable. Which is convincing myslef more and more that it's a port problem
One solution for now would be to buy one of these cheap external battery chargers from eBay, but it would mean i still wouldn't be able to use sync using the USB cable and i'm a bit conscious on whether the charger is safe and wont fry my battery
Which is why i'm leaning towards having a stab at reparing it myself
It'd solve the issue directly and it'd be a safer and more secure solution too... (the external charger would have to be ordered in from Hong Kong eBay)

I'm having what seem to be exactly the same problems. I have used 2 x usb based chargers on it - and neither work (whereas they had been working for the past 6 months). Got a mains charger last week - was working for a while - but as of right now, no longer works.
I'm not sure what else to do. I will try later to use the other adapter I have for connection to usb keyboard. The strange thing is - this will probably work but charging won't!
So....is it the micro usb port that's broken? (strange if it is but still works for data)

Initially, my Nexus 5 ONLY charged at USB mode with any other charger than the one supplied. I tried 5 chargers including the Trent 2.1A car charger and BB PlayBook high-speed charger. I also tries using the supplied USB cable with another charger but it was a slow-go.
Then, I noticed my buddy's N5 did not exhibit this problem.
My only solution was to reset the phone, log back in and charge with the supplied charger to 100%. Then, it magically started to show AC charging with other charges.
I wanted to share this with others in case they faced the same situation and were considering RMA due to hardware.
Kit Kat still have way too many bugs. (Settings is constantly crashing in the battery menu when I plug the charge in and out on two of our N5s.)

Thanks, I'll try reseting my Nexus 5 when I get home. Although, I havent been able to charge it using any charger not sure if the battery life is reporting correctly too. When you first saw the issue with yours not charging using the cable and ac adapter that came with your Nexus 5 did you happen to notice if your device was still asking you to connect the charger or not? Mine is still telling me I need to connect the charger or cable, even though I have my USB plugged into the device. I can send commands to the phone fine using adb or fastboot, just wont charge.

Unfortunately your trick didn't work for me with my N5. My N5 charges off of SOME chargers (The N4, N5, N7 2012, and Samsung 2.1 Chargers, as well as my EasyACC 1200 battery pack, only port 1.3 volt, all others show as USB.) My car charger fails, Duracell 2 USB port with 2A output, and so does every other battery pack that I own fail with charging. All report USB Mode. I think it has to do with the Quickcharge 2.0 or possibly the fact that this has G2 innards to an extent. The G2 has quite a few chargers reporting as "Slow Charge" rather than "Fast Charge." Quite Irksome but I suspect it will be resolved with an update soon.
To confirm that it wasn't a hardware problem of my N5, I borrowed a Coworker's N5 and experienced the same thing on my chargers.

I returned my first nexus 5 to google because it did not charge unless it was with the original charger. I tried it with the USB charging port on my radio and also a sony USB cable + plug combo and the charge was terribly slow. I have a nexus 4 and 7 and they had no issues charging this way so thought it was a fault with the handset.
When I received my replacement I was really hoping this issue was resolved but sadly not. The second handset had the same issue. I then researched online and came across this forum post. I reset the handset, charged it to 100% with the cable and plug provided with the phone. Just to be on the safe side I discharged the handset fully and charged it to 100% again. The same fault reoccured. I then compared my nexus 5 to my 4 and 7. When charging the 4 and 7 through my radio, it showed charging via AC on the battery properties on the handset. The 5 in the same situation showed charging via USB. I then tried to charge my 5 using an emergency charger I had lying about and to my surprise, that charged fine showing as AC charging. I then took the USB cable from the emergency charger and plugged it into my radio's charged port. It showed AC again and charged as normal. I then used the original USB cable I always plug into the radio into the outlet of emergency charger too and that showed AC on the phone too.
I don't really have a conclusion to why this it charges fine with one power source and cable and not another as there seems to be no logic to this. I think the nexus 5 is really picky how it likes to be charged. I can't see why this phone is soo finiky charging when all my other devices charge fine regardless where and how. I am now worried that if I'm at work or out and about and need an emergency top up my handset won't charge. I really hope this is a software fix

[Q] Technical assistance. Charge port issues

Hello, back in January I got my charge port replaced on my Galaxy S3, but now I'm having a weird issue with it. When I plug into the wall charger, the connection is very loose and it's difficult to get a good connection. The surprising bit is that my phone charges perfectly when it's plugged into a car charger, or my laptop USB port. In fact, I'm charging my phone overnight by leaving my laptop in sleep mode. Also, data transfer (music, photos, etc) seems to be unaffected.
I don't know if this is a charge port issue or a software issue. I'm running the latest stable LiquidSmooth Kit-Kat ROM, so idk if that's affecting anything. I have tried other wall chargers (with connected cable, not separate) and the charging is still very loose. I also ordered a brand-new charger (with USB port) and I still have the same issue. Please help.

USB port damaged?

I have looked around on this topic before posting, but nothing applies to what im experiencing
Up until this morning, I haven't had a single issue with my USB port or charging in general.
I clean flashed Purity KitKat, flashed compatible Uber kernel and installed my apps as one usually do, and let the phone charge for a while. A few hours later, I realized my battery was at 0%. I started panicking, looking for a USB replacement part, which I found for about $12 on Amazon. I decided I would download GSAM battery monitor to see if there was an issue with my charging cable.
What I saw was the mA flow was acting erratic, sometimes shooting from -700ma (yes, that's negative 700) all the way up to 1800mA. Even by just rotating the screen, it would drop instantly. . The phone charges, but a little at a time. I disabled KSM and fast charge which seemed to have a positive effect.
I'm not sure what caused this, or how to fix it, but I've attached a couple pictures to give you an idea of what I'm seeing. If it is in fact the USB port, would using a Qi charger be a good option or should I just go ahead and dismantle the phone and replace the USB port?
Note: windows still recognizes the phone and I can send files from the computer, and the charging bolt is showing.

Have you replaced the cable? Far more common for the cable to crap out then the port. Cheap or broken cables will appear to work, computer will detect phone and even display a charging indicator but it won't actually charge. Had happened to me in the past.

Yeah I've tried numerous chargers including my car charger. They all charge, but it took 12 hrs from 0 to 100

Try flashing the stock rom to rule that variable out. If you want to be sure that is the usb port you could try with a wireless charger as it could also be the battery, you can find a new one at the same price range of the port.
It does seems a lot like what happened when both the stock charger and the cable were damaged. I tried to charge the phone and when disconnected it had less charge.

Kernel/DCDC issue?

Posted this over on the timurs kernel Reddit but he wanted to get all defensive about it and deleted it cause his kernel is perfection in his own opinion. So I'm copying it and pasting it here. Just want any info on it I can get.
When I first setup my nexus I originally used my cigarette lighter worked fine then I converted to a dcdc converter and set it up for 5v when I hooked the nexus up there was a pop and a burning smell but every thing worked fine. Other than I noticed a horrible battery drain issue. After a few months I discovered anything I plugged in was draining the battery even if the tablet was off. The led on the phone charger would even light up even if it wasn't plugged into the wall. Got another nexus and everything worked flawless for months with the same DCDC and timurs kernel. Plugged it in took it out multiple times with no problem. Yesterday I decided I wanted to give marshmallow a test. It worked fine to other than it wouldn't charge due to the OTG cable and the way the stock kernel works so i flashed Element Kernel and enabled OTG charging and fast charge. It came on it charged and everything except music was playing through the tablet and not the DAC so I unplugged it and plugged it back in. It wouldn't charge..... Then I realized the charger had welded itself into the port and wouldn't come out. Finally got it out and tried it again. This time the tablet went black and won't do anything the port is melted on the tablet and the cord has melted plastic in the end. Is it a DCDC converter issue? Or a kernel issue? Maybe fast charge related? Just asking cause of the problem I had at the very beginning. Do you think the LCD might have survived? If so I was going to buy another nexus with a bad screen for like $25. Any input would be greatly appreciated just too keep it from happening again. Thanks in advance.

Fast charging burned cable? Ampere value?
You should put 'fast charging' in the title.
I used Timurs kernel on a 2012 Nexus 7 and the batterie was getting so hot, I had to disable fast charging. Since I used a Y usb cable to charge the tablet and only one usb device (usb ethernet adapter) there was no problem.
Maybe you should use an dc adapter with less Ampere output? Normal Charging is 0.5 Ampere but fast charging was up to 1.5 Ampere for me (checked with one of the cheap 'USB Charger Doctor Voltage Current Meter Mobile Battery Tester'). Maybe 1.0 Ampere is enough? Or use a thicker usb cable?
I think the LCD is fine because the overpower destroyed the mainboard only. But look inside the Nexus and see yourself!
