Hello,
I've searched the forums and google like crazy trying to find a solution that actually works. I'm on Rogers network (Canada). When connected to WiFi, all is good. Without WiFi all I can do is text/call - no LTE = no mobile internet.
The only thing I've been able to find is to do the following:
-Reset APN's to default
-Network Operations -> Choose Automatically
-Be connected to WiFi
-Turn airplane mode on then back off
-Reboot
-Type in *#*#4636#*#* into the caller
-Set LTE/GSM auto (PRL)
-Turn off radio
-Turn on radio
-Refresh SMSC and Update
Click to collapse
My problem is that this solution doesn't work. I've reset my phone twice now as well. Did not restore from back up either time. Cannot get this to go away and it's driving me nuts.
My APN is set correctly. All settings say it should work but it doesn't. I've never changed my modem. Is that a step I can do?
Remove all your apn settings, and use these. I'm on cm12.1 and with Rogers. Hold on a sec

I got it OTA.
So I got it fixed last night. A guy on the oneplus forums helped me.
-I deleted every single APN. Every single one. Then added the rogers LTE APN and saved it.
-Selected that APN, rebooted my phone and voila. Full LTE.

Yeah I'm super glad I got it figured out. Before the update I was on H+ which I always assumed was Rogers version of LTE. Now I am actually seeing LTE and better speeds so I guess I've been having an issue for a while and never realized it!

So I've been trying to tweak my signal, go into dialer *#*#4636#*#*. Go all the way down, under preferred network type says unknown. Click on box and options are, wcdma preferred, GSM only, wcdma only, GSM auto prl, wcdma auto prl, GSM/wcdma auto prl , evdo only and i think 2 more. One of wich is unknown. Phone is rooted, stock rom. Any ideas? Live in Colorado

yea i was wondering the same thing. my evo is/was always on CDMA auto PRL, my ns4g is either on WCDMA or unknown. i cant help but think this has a lot to do with reception issues
Edit: Also switched cdma roaming to home only not automatic, not sure if auto made it keep switching to unknown type. Waited a cuple minutes after turning 4G off and speed went back up, might have needed a minute to fully switch back to 3G. Been messing with preferred type, but to make it stay have to push home cause back button keeps resetting to unknown type. Check speedtest.net app, shows better speed, but when i use the 4G and then turn off speeds are worse again. But then again you'd think cause i get a low 4G that my 3G would be faster, not so.

how to set preferred network type (looking for this portion easy to find like right in the middle sticks out)

ro.build.fingerprint=google/soju/crespo:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/release-keys
ro.product.rat=XXXXXXXX

add the italic underlined code, without being in italic and underlined. and replace the x's with whatever you want to use:
GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
EvDo only
CDMA only
CDMA auto (PRL)
GSM auto (PRL)
WCDMA only
GSM only
WCDMA preferred
here for copy and paste (just put your network in there!!!)

Well then it probably doesnt work to make the network type stick. I altered the file through root explorer. Reallllly wanna make my network type stick to cdma auto
Gothis from Build.prop thread-use *#*#4636#*#* to access network type, wait for signal to turn green, select network type then quickly go down to refresh and then update. These are next to the smsc box. So far it seems to be sticking, not sure about after reboot.

None.
These were my steps
1. Go t system and make a few copies of build.prop.
2.went into copies of build.prop, ( main build .prop runs in background so it would let me alter).then added witch ever type i wanted , (like me i did ro.product.rat=WCDMA preferred) .
3. Made sure i saved my new copy.
4. Then i copied and pasted my new building.prop over to system. (Says there is already one there, i overwrite original.
5. Get out of whichever explorer used. And restart phone.
6. Then went to *#*#4636#*#* to get to preferred network type, then i select the option i chose to put in build.prop. ( that way they are the same.
6. After selecting type quickly got to refresh and update ( near the smsc box near the bottom.
You should notice the update tab stay dark.
Before i messed with build.prop and added what i wanted it would still change back. Now it atleast stays till next reboot.
Don't know if that helps.....

Didnt work. Switches back to WCDMA upon leaving the menu. Then shifts to unknown.
This phones radios need some serious updating...as well as some other problems.
Is yer rom odexed or deodexed, is it stock rom or different. I read somewhere that a deodexed rom allows a little more play as far as changing things, not sure though. It stays as long as you don't reboot after refresh and update, before it would reset regardless of reboot or not. Did you check build.prop in system folder to make sure it kept the add in? Mine wouldn't stay untill i copy and pasted over the original in system file, cause build.prop runs in the background. But there are so many things that work and won't work depending on yer rom and how it runs.

stock rom. performed multiple variations of the steps that are assumed to work. nothing works as it always switches back to wcdma then unknown.
I have found that I make the wcdma change with *#*#4636#*#* the change shows. If i make shortcut in home screen for phone info the line still shoes gsm/cdma. I still have to change it there.
Hello,
somebody knows how to turn off Data Roaming by default? Because .prop String does not work for me. And when i turn off, its turning on again after reboot.
Would be very happy if someone can tell me, because its really pissing me off. I live between switzerland and germany. I have every month ca. 60 € of extra costs because the phone changes to a roaming opperator during download or something like that. So its a fu**ing pain in my ass.
Thanks in Advance.

No need to be rude..
You can set the network operator to manual by selecting the operator. That way it won't connect you to one you don't want to.
You can also turn off automatic update from the settings-about menu to stop automatic updates... do this in the market too if you have checked any automatically update apps.

Unlimited?
So this would be unlimited hotspot on my unlimited network from Sprint? and also I noticed that it wont let me open my sprint app anymore after adding ,dun
My guess this happens due to block the app from tracking your hotspot usage? I have 10GB of hot spot and I used this method then went back to normal settings again without ,dun and restarted my phone the My sprint app opened and well I be damned but it did not track my usage I still have 0 data out of 10GB used! I guess I will just have to disable it when I want to check my activity on the My sprint app, this is awesome!!! :good:

Personally I don't even bother, as it's unlimited. Or, reset the changes and change back whenever you get curious. Either way works

Oh yeah went thru the same thing using this method on the s7 with the unlocked firmware. I couldn't believe it wasn't registering, because I wasn't rooted. It's true though, it works. I would test it jus like you're thinking, by using the hotspot without the mod. It would count the data up while I watched. Then I made these edits, and BOOM! No more data was showing on the hotspot usage on the Sprint site. Didn't have any issues for a year. Then the phone broke [emoji28]

Yea, I think there is no way to get to this menu through the settings menu, phone app, etc. It's crazy when some basic features are there.
Something else that is weird if you notice in the first screen shot the "Preferred Network Method" shows "Invalid Network Mode 26. Ignore." This is what it says by default (when all bands are enabled). When I click on it I can choose LTE, 3G, or 2G (see screenshot) but not 5G. So if I selected one of these, I cannot get 5G back without using the Samsung Band Selection app. I have 3 devices, all the same issue.
Even more interesting. When I select 3G, I get the basic 4G icon (no LTE icon) in my notification bar. Probably AT&T being shady and trying to classify 3G as 4G like they do with their 5Ge.

Since you're on AT&T I just read a thread earlier where they were all talking about the phone not being provisioned correctly and they all had to call AT&T in order to get it fixed and then 5G worked.

Yea, I've been following that thread. Don't think thats the issue here, my 5G works fine. Only doesn't if I change it through that settings menu in the OP which apparently isn't in the default system settings anywhere anyway. Maybe they meant to leave it like this or maybe an oversight, who knows....

Yeah I'm really not sure since I'm not on AT&T but maybe someone who is might know but I personally don't think you'll find it like it used to be I'm pretty sure they've changed it up and the way it is now is what they changed it to. I could be wrong so hopefully another AT&T user will know.

Thanks for trying anyway! I'll survive without being able to access that menu, just seems like they missed it. Its obviously linked in the system somehow if that app can open it. [emoji848]

I was able to find the settings menu in the "Shortcut Maker" app that the "Samsung Band Selector" app opens too in order to get these options. Not that it changes anything, but incase anyone coming across this is interested.
Essentially I want to have WiFi on and data off at home and at work. I want my data on and WiFi off when I am not in either of those locations. I also want the switch to be automatic.
How can I go about setting this up?
Explore the app Tasker, it should have the options and rules to give you the solutions.

I figured that was my best option. I was hoping there was something on the phone stock that would do the job, and I didn't know about it. Thank you very much.
Actually you don't need to use any 3rd party tools.
Enable Programmers Options, go there and look for option called Mobile connection always on. Turn it off and you're done.
After that, whenever you're in WiFi, your mobile connection will be off, but keep your WiFi on.
Why do you want to switch off your WiFi when connected to mobile connection? Battery impact is minimal.
