[Q] Is this phone unlocked?

So, I recently got this phone from a friend (not on stock btw) and I was just wondering if this phone is unlocked. I read a few post online saying the phone comes pre-unlocked with a jellybean update. It is Verizon, but I use T-Mobile. So does this phone actually come pre-unlocked?
Sim unlocked maybe but bootloader unlocked not a chance

I've heard it being able to be carrier unlocked but since this isn't a true GSM phone people aren't having a lot of luck on other carriers with the VZW variant of the S3

Your on a locked bootloader, you cannot unlock the bootloader. Your only option is safestrap and the few limited roms that are available. Attempting to unlock the bootloader will brick your device

Unlocking the bootloader: root now available?

Hello XDA,
If I unlocked the bootloader of a G920V, would it effectively become a G920F?
Would it then be able to be rooted, and be able to flash other software?
Thanks.

There is no way to be able to unlock the bootloader. If you did it would not change the model number. If you are still on Software version OE2 you can root and then flash my ROM or the other few in the forums. But you will not flash ROMS from other carriers.
So even if I unlock from the carrier, and am on BOG5 for the G920V, I am not able to root my phone or flash other ROMs/softwares?

Unlocking from your carrier is not the same as unlocking the bootloader.
If you have the Verizon version of the phone then you will not be unlocking the bootloader anytime soon. Unlocking the phone to use on another carrier may be possible but the bootloader will remain locked.
If rooting or customising is more your thing you may consider buying out the phone from Verizon and simply buying a new one with the new carrier.
Correct after I moved the phone off their network and it was soley owned by me, I spent hours on the phone with multiple Verizon employees. I explained I wanted my bootloader unlocked and they refused to do so. Most of the employees had no idea what I was talking about. The one that did know what I was talking about spent nearly an hour searching for someone who would do it for me only to be told due to policy they do not unlock bootloaders. Most of them exclaimed they cannot because they did not lock it Samsung did, which I knew was a lie because Verizon updates the bootloader. I even went as far as going into the FCC rules. They gave 0.
Thanks for trying !
You bought the phone with the bootloader locked. Verizon and Samsung have no legal obligation to unlock it for you. FCC won't do anything.

Root has been achieved on a lot of phones with locked bootloaders, but what does that have to do with this thread? The S6 had root, when it was on the OE2 build, with a locked bootloader.

This. Whether or not the bootloader has been unlocked does not mean you do or do not have root. Samsung phones are all testament to that.

Bootloader and sim unlocked?

I am thinking about getting Tmobile galaxy s7 to use on Cricket. Can anyone tell if it's sim and bootloader unlocked? I think tmobile s6 was unlocked bootloader and sim.
Thanks.
SIM locked, bootloader unlocked.

SIM lock doesn't happen until a SIM is put in I believe. That said if you put the Cricket SIM in first it should lick to Cricket.

That's what people are saying, but T-mobile has the app lock on their version. That is part of the software that ships with the phone. Don't believe everything you hear. My SM-G930T came locked to T-mobile.
I'm in the same boat, getting a tmobile s7 for use on cricket.
Unfortunately, it'll come locked, and you'll need to keep it on the network for 40 days before they unlock it for you.
And yet another person on that same boat...
Hopefully we can find a company to remote unlock it. If anyone finds a company that can remote unlock it for a reasonable price, hopefully they can post in this thread
Just because a recovery that isn't meant for your phone can't be flashed on this and because it says Qualcomm secure boot enabled which almost every QC Samsung phone has said does not MEAN THE BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED!!! MY GOD PEOPLE! The tmobile S7 is bootloader UNLOCKED and SIM CARD!
It is as simple as that!!!
Nevermind

Sim unlock is very possible, mine is. You just use the device unlock app by T-Mobile. But no one, I mean no one, on any USA variant has an unlocked bootloader. Unless they work for samsung or simply aren't sharing.

They are equal. Nougat beta doesn't have root. There is a root guide in general. Be sure to follow all steps. There are important ones to avoid lag and battery drain.

Sorry bud but it's locked down tight. There isn't much of a chance unless someone releases keys or a unlocked bootloader. That dev option is pretty much useless.
