Hi, maybe its to early to compare but since the price for both devices are almost the same in Europe i really cant decide which one is the better choice. Let me tell you something, i really like the pure android experience on Moto but i think that LG isn`t bad either. I hear there are some problems with data connection and touch on LG, and i am not sure if they solve the issue. Then again, the specs are pretty much the same on both, or am i missing something?
So what do you think, from your point of view?
The LG G4 is available today brand new unlocked on eBay for $452, shipped. The reason i went with the X Pure is because LG's UI is ugly and a resource hog IMO. Motorola's additions to Android are minimal yet extremely useful, which i prefer. I also feel that since the Pure is being sold unlocked directly through motorola, there will be better development for it here on XDA.

The G4 has 0 development (at least Verizon and other locked bootloader devices). I love my G4 but she's going back in the box when my 64gb Moto X Style arrives.

I have the G4. So development is dead, if you have a carrier one you have touchscreen issues (miss touches and lag), there is a fix but you have to wait for the update. Locked bootloader... I love the phone but it is annoying to use at the moment. Bring on the moto x
I have the TMobile G4 and a recent update fixed the touchscreen issues. I never had data issues though.
I am planning on switching to the Moto X Pure Edition. While I don't mind the LG UI and the phone has some nice useful customizations, I still prefer the stock Android experience. Throw Moto's features on top of that and the experience is that much better! I am also looking forward to the carrier-free experience!

Good choice Don't get me wrong the screen and the camera on the G4 is awesome but stock is the way to go!
I'm coming from the Verizon G4. While I love the looks, the feel, the camera, etc, I'm just not getting a good feeling that it will ever see a bootloader unlock. My MXP is supposed to arrive in a week, and I'm really looking forward to it.
I'm on the G3 right now and looking at the G4 as my finacee needs a phone and can take my G3. I was hoping to get the Moto X Pure, but I can't bring myself to go backwards on camera quality. Can't count on the new Nexus phones being great in that department either.

Exactly, there's much more to it. All cameras now are measured against the LG G4, new Galaxy range and iPhone 6. From everything I've seen the Moto X Play & Style are not on the same level as these phones.
I admit I got the G4 due to all the camera hype ... and it certainly lives up to that hype! Manual mode is cool, but honestly WAY over my head. However, I have come to realize I don't take very many pictures - I find myself wanting to take more pictures due the G4's camera though LOL. Personally, I'd rather the Moto features and stock Android over the G4 camera as said Moto features will get far more use than the camera. Yes, I may have situations where I am let down or aggravated by the camera on the X, but as I mentioned, taking pictures for me isn't a normal occurrence so it's worth the trade-off IMHO.
Edit: And I've had the first and second gen Xs and seen what improvements Motorola can make via software updates. While it may never get to G4 quality, I am confident they will address what ever shortcomings the camera has (assuming it's limited to software and not hardware)
I'm going to buy the MXP when I have to cash on hand. My last Android phone was a Droid Razr(ancient). I've since been to and iPhone 5s, and don't really like the OS. I've also been using a 2012 nexus 7 and still use it every day. The pure Android experience on the Nexus devices trump all. Add in the Moto Features and you can't go wrong. The Camera in the G4 is better, but if you're buying a ~&400 device for a camera only, you should buy an actual camera. The G4 also had an IR blaster, which I don't believe the Moto X Pure has. It would be nice to have that, but it really doesn't sway a decision for me. I also like the 0.2 inch boost on the screen size for the MXP, but that's an entirely opinion based decision. Dev support will certainly be better for Moto as well. I would also like to point out that the Moto X is actually cheaper, and straight from Moto, so customer support will be better than getting it from a rand third party on Ebay.
Looking at various reviews/pics of the X play, getting at the battery isn't all that complicated. It's not a plug'n'play replacement, but appears to be a rather simple disassembly process. If it's anything like the 1st gen moto g, it's a no brainer.
Folks, can we stick to the topic please. I'm all for no replacement for displacement but I don't want to read up it in an updates for phone thread.

Yeah I agree, not all sensors are created equal which means you could have horrible ones and good ones. Perfect example is the 8 MP sensors on the iPhone... there are a lot of 8 MP sensors on the market that don't come anywhere close to the photos the iPhones put out, some are down right laughable. I think the G4 and S6 will have a better camera than the moto x, however I do not think it will be by much, for me as long as it is decent I will be happy.
I wonder how many days after the first few MXP's are delivered it'll take for TWRP to show up? My guess is that by the time I receive mine on the 21st, there will be a couple lightly mod'ed roms to flash.
...and then the G4 goes back in the box.

It wont take long, the play got it quickly if I'm not mistaken, just a few drivers and it will be ready to go.
After reading some more reviews, I'm not so sure the G4 has a better camera. At least not for me. I rarely take pictures, but when I do, I only take them in good lighting areas. The reviews I have read say that the MXP has a better camera than any in good lighting. That's all I need to hear to give the MXP my vote for camera as well as my previously mentioned features.

So this phone was supposed to be the greatest thing since white bread, so I sold my beloved Moto X for this puppy and am regretting it. The only things this has better than the X are the camera and the screen. Other than that it is buggy, lags and has all sorts of issues. I am rooted and have tried everything but I'm at wits end. I think I'm jumping ship anyone else at this point ?
I'm the complete opposite. I am genuinely happy with this device, and i haven't be able to say that in a wile. I was on the Samsung train and had all the Galaxys from the skyrocket-S5, so maybe bc its "different" is why im so happy with it. The data drops and headphone jack issue are the only 2 downers for me right now. On the flip side, the battery is beast and screen size to form factor is perfect for me.
Yes I can agree with the Samsung mess. Only those with the moto can get it , hard to explain how a phone which should be sub par actually makes these other phones seem like poo
I came from a note 3 and i wouldn't jump back......i have no issue with the phone at all.....no lag....no issue with aux....the only minor thing is that it gets warm during heavy gaming.....(but that happens to every phone that i own...)....the other issue is that i can't use ART as my car's bluetooth doesn't like it....but dalvik is fine for me...
took a bit of time debloating all the ATT stuff from the phone....but...there isn't that much to debloat compare to sammy's TW.....

ive never had a Nexus, but i would definitely like to drive one someday.
Nexus are very cool especially at the affordable price point. The moto x series is basically a nexus with a few added features and it receives updates only a week later than nexus

I've had no issues with this phone. I'm very happy with it. Been trying to find something I don't like but so far nothing. It's fast and my phone is totally lag free. I'm rooted and running ART. Loving this phone.
I'm happy you all are having such a great time but it seems that a majority are not if you just browse this forum
Oook. Mine runs flawlessly....not rooted on ART to boot. Considering complaints tend to be more vocal than kudos, I'd take the "majority" metric with a grain of salt.
Just look at other phones and there threads. I've been a member here for a long time. This phone has issues

Not saying that they don't they're are just a lot of issues on here some which shouldn't be with the big processor
Last year, just about this time, I was using the Optimus G Pro and getting ready for the Note 3 release. The G Pro was in the same boat... root but no boot loader unlock so ROMs, and more importantly, modified kernels, were non-existant.
Seems as soon as the Note 3 released, and I bought one, the bootloader was cracked on the G Pro and the goodies flowed like candy.. :fingers-crossed:
I'll definitely still get the Note 4, but I'll keep my G3 this time.
Its crazy because the only phone I didn't really I want to mess with and get rid of was my moto x everything else even the nexus 5 I wanted out. The only and I mean only reason I switched was better screen. Although now that seems stupid

Well then the X+1 sounds like it just might be the perfect phone for you. Of course we will have to wait and see if the software is as good as the X. If it is, then the larger screen might appeal to you.
Personally I love the G3. I'd love it even more if someone would crack the bootloader, but I'm quite content with it right now.
The X+1 is like Obi wan ....my only hope
Im going to agree, i dont know if its the phone or at&t but its slow. Every time i use data i have to toggle wifi or 4glte to get to wake it seems like. My m8 was great.....
It's a pain really. I mean there are some really great things on this phone while others just make it feel crappy
I came from a Note 3 and I haven't looked back. I have used the Moto X and honestly its terrible in comparison. The screen is awful and its so tiny it hurts my eyes. I have nothing against Motorola, I just don't like the moto x. My G3 isn't laggy at all and overall its much more smooth than my old Note 3 or my wife's S5. The moto I used was smooth, but nowhere near as smooth as my nexus 7. I guess it all comes down to preference and for me I love Mt G3, in fact I've now had the F400S, D850 and my F460 is coming in a few days. It just took a while for me to find the one I wanted and still have qi.
Hi guys hope I'm posting this in the right place. I currently have a moto x 2014 but I'm not a fan of the battery life or unpredictable camera.
So my question is, do you think its worth me getting the one plus one? Or do you think the LG G3 would be a better option? Keeping in mind I'm in the UK so we have the 2GB G3 over here.

Why would you want the OPO over the G3 or the G3 over the OPO? Both are fantastic phones, it just comes down to personal preference.
Well I'm struggling to decide between OPO and the G3 at the moment because I want a good camera and apparently the G3 has a better one than the OPO and good battery life which OPO beats G3 but I hear G3 has lag issues and shuts itself off occasionally for no reason when not being used and you have to turn it back on when you realise its gone off. I know 3 people all with that same issue, but its a nice looking phone lol

I've had the OPO (I've had two actually) and although I've not had one for a long time I wasn't a huge fan of them. The phone is great, but the support is terrible should anything go wrong. Also, I couldn't use Sky Go as it picks up the rooted nature of CM11S, even with root disabled, so I can't use it
Hardware-wise the phone is great but I'd wait for the M9/S6/S6 Edge/G4 and make a decision from there (or even wait for the OP2)
Ah OK that shines some more light on the OPO lol. I hate Samsungs, touchwiz is aweful and although I can install a 3rd party launcher, the look of the settings and notification area is horrible

Plenty of opinions around. The opo's main issues remain the screen sensitivity/ghost swipes and updates gone wrong.
The touch was very much improved to the point where it's almost neglectable by now. I will still get a ghost swipe once or twice during a week. It's not as sensitive as, say, an iPhone, but it doesn't disappoint either.
Battery is a beast. I've never seen a smartphone last as long as the opo. It can go for 2 days with medium-slightly heavy use. Doing almost nothing I can push it 3 days and there's been people who did more.
Software is great. It's cm, aka stock with plenty of options everywhere. Stability is rock solid.
Updates show up often enough. It's taking more than expected for Lollipop but it's a major version, so it's kind of expected.
As for updates gone wrong, I personally have no issue whatsoever but I've seen it happening. Can't elaborate any further, all running great here.
It's a good phone even if it's a bit too big. I'd still get it.

I actually have two OPOs and one of them has all of the touch issues. Don´t get me wrong, it´s AWFUL ANNOYING DISGUSTING to have them. But the phone does just so many things right in so little time and is so damn smooth when the touchscreen works that I just happen to love it. I had the pleasure to have a LG G3 for one week, THE FIRST DAY I had to root it and so on, disgusting performance and subpar battery life. It got way damn better, though stability was compromised.
So for me, it is worth taking the risk of buying an OPO, hell if you don´t have any of the issues reported as being standard, you get an awesome phone, the fastest out there, faster than a stock GN4, god knows what rooting could do to it...
However, if you prefer a near flawless phone with a little less performance and responsiveness and battery life, but a better screen and camera, i gotta give it to the LG G3, you should go with it.
OPO all the way for me...
The question is, is it worth changing from a moto x 2014 to the OPO? Lol I HATE the camera on the moto x 2014 its terrible IMO so I'm hoping the OPO has a better camera

As they say "if it is not broken, why change it?" Apart from the camera, is everything else to your satisfaction? Why not save the money and buy a dissent mirrorless aps-c camera like the Samsung nx-300m? Compared to any phone it far than better.

I owned three Moto X 2013 three times, bought two OnePlus, sold both, bought a Moto X 2014, sold Moto X 2014, bought another OnePlus, bought another Moto X 2014 on sale. Sold the Moto X 2014 again.
The Moto X 2014 is have a very exquisite design that I love. Superb signal and voice call quality. There wasn't any other phone better for data speed and getting good phone calls. The thing that I couldn't live with were:
-24gb of actual storage space from 32gb, and this was supposed to be a lightweight phone.
-Battery life while not bad is average, won't last the whole day like the OPO.
-Camera sucks, not the hardware itself, but the post processing technology. The Moto G 2014 takes better low light photos than the Moto X 2014, this is fact, I have done side by side comparison.
Phone camera has never been that important for me, but lately taking decent photo is something I need.
The Moto X camera have a few issues:
-Not great details in the distance.
-Extremely grainy low light shots, this can be cured by using HDR, the post processing will vastly improve the image quality, looking almost as good as the OnePlus, however, HDR shots mean you need to keep the phone still.
-Crappy at focusing macro details with video recording.
OnePlus camera is the best phone camera I've used so far in term of details. It's even more details than iPhone videos, since it takes 4K DCI video. Where other phones does better is they have better post processing technology, so they can deal with variety of situation and take much better low light photos. However, if you use the OnePlus and an advance camera app that let you tweak settings, you can control variety of things to get images that you want.
The one flaw with any CyanogenMod rom or rom based on it for this phone, is that continuous autofocusing for video recording will not work correctly. This is a hardware driver issue. I have to use ColorOS + Google Camera or the CM11S "CameraNext" app to get it working correctly. I won't be switching back to another rom until this issue is fixed.
The performance, battery life, display and overall function of this phone is great. Where it lost to the Moto X is the LTE signal and call quality, it's a world difference, but this is true for most other brand that isn't Motorola.
If you can get the OnePlus for the same price of the G3, then get the OnePlus, but not if it cost more.
I had a Sprint LG G4 that died on me (known defect with the Sprint variant of the LG G4). Since Best Buy couldn't get anymore, they sent me a $650 gift card to cover the full value of the G4.
I initially ordered the 32 Gig Moto X Pure in White and instantly loved it. Best Buy didn't have any in the stores at the time so I bought it without seeing it first. Two days ago, my local BB got some of the 16 gig versions in black. I loved the black so much more than the white I exchanged it ( I have a 64 gig SD card so once Marshmellow hits, storage won't be an issue).
It is an amazing phone. Only two things I slightly miss from my G4 are:
a) Picture quality. In well lit outdoor situations, not much difference. In low lit situations, the LG G4 can't be beat. Not a deal breaker with the Moto X but there is a difference.
b) Battery life - The LG G4 seemed to have better battery life for me. The Moto X quick charge out of the box however more than makes up for it.
Things that I love more than the G4:
a) Build quality - It seems like a much more solid build over the G4. Maybe the removable back on the G4 was a reason.
b) Software - Of course the closer to stock, the closer to heaven. So much snappier than the LG skin that they put on top of android
c) Speakers - No brainer, way better sounding front speakers
Overall, I consider this and upgrade from the G4 (for me). Love this phone so far.

Not really. I have to sort of baby it a little though(transfer apps to SD, set camera to store pictures on SD, etc...) I am not a big mobile gamer so I only have a couple of games.
I think if the feature that allows you to integrate your SD card storage with the internal storage wasn't going to happen in 6.0, I would have gone with the 32 gig.
As soon as M arrives officially, make sure to use a UHS-II rated card to avoid app lag issues.
I'm actually debating between the G4 and the MXP. Would you say the MXP is the way to go?

I've had the MXPE over a month now and I am completely happy with it. I've been with moto phones since the Droid X and this is the best. I can't really find any faults wilth it.

Can you set the camera to automatically save photos to the SD card?
Or do you have to manually move them to the SD cards after you take the photos?

That's funny because I've had the MXPE for for eight weeks and just got the LG G4 for my wife to replace her note 3. I got it free from Verizon without using an upgrade so I couldn't pass it up. Haven't played with it much but don't care for LG UI.

So, I originally had the same opinion on the battery and similar results. I then upgraded to a custom ROM (TruPureX), and its a full night and day difference. I can now go 2 days+ without charging with very light usage. Stock ROM would only do about 1 day with the same usage. There are probably a few reasons why, but I am much happier now with the phone knowing there are ways to help the battery last longer!

For me, the biggest difference is the overall improvement in smoothness coming over to the MXPE. Using any Samsung device for a couple of months, you will start to notice it slowing down while transitioning between the most basic task. This is what I hated the most about the Note 4. I never used the s pen, but loved the screen and cam. I was pleasantly surprised how nice the screen looked on the MXPE, even compared to the Note 4. Also the cam on the MXPE has great potential for taking pics, I'm just not a huge fan of the stock cam app. Hopefully this will get addressed in a software update. The last thing about the Note 4(Samsung in general) is how long it takes them to push out updates. From what I've been reading, the MPXE is already in the soak testing stage, so it will more than likely go live b4 the end of Nov. Hope this helps:good:

Personal preference really. After having a phone that runs almost pure stock Android, I could never go back to a Touchwiz based phone.
I made the same switch but from an ATT Version. Other than the Camera, I love the Moto more in every way. Near-Stock android and no bloat just makes the phone feel a lot less cluttered and smooth. I didn't like LG's quick settings in the notification menu either because they felt like they took up more room than needed. Battery life with the same apps and all has been a lot better for me on the moto as well.

I have a LG G4 H811 and I am having a very hard time getting T-Mobile to unlock it. I like the G4, but I may have to sell it and get a unlocked phone. Moto X Pure may be my best option. I too am curious how the screen compares as well.
Coming form a g4 ,I do miss the cam ...that's about it..went to a custom rom(purex) and batt has been great....I love the pure Android.. The ui would lag with the g4...I would say hands down pure is a better phone ....

For what it is worth I came from the G4, I like the G4 screen much better. Deeper blacks, more vivid colors. The moto x is much brighter and is pretty much all screen. The blacks are more of dark gray and not real blacks IMO. But I prefer the moto X over the G4 in just about every other department. The camera of the G4 is better. MXPE is smooth and pure android just works.
I did make the move to the nexus but the pure is a great phone. Just pray you never need warranty replacement. I'm jumping through their stupid hoops now trying to get a replacement. So far it has been 7 days since they put a hold on my CC for the replacement. What a joke... Spent all this time on the phone for them to tell me that they are closed and I have to call again tomorrow...
So, long story short, I decided to make the switch from Apple to Android around this time last year after becoming increasingly frustrated with the limitations of iOS, mainly in terms of multitasking, file management and productivity.
iOS is a stunning platform that has been beautifully designed and well executed. It works so well because of its rigid rules and inflexible functionality and I needed to spread my metaphorical wings.
At the time I made my decision the LG G4 had just been announced and the quirky leather design and publicity around the camera swept me up but at £500 it wasn't good value for money considering the previous year's model was less than half that price at around £230. So I bought the LG G3 as my first Android phone.
It was impressive, had good specs and certainly the flexibility I was after but OMG the UI is ugly. It has a colour pallette reminiscent of Windows 95 and equally as blocky. Square icons for all LG apps, hideous status bar icons and a general look about it that reminds me of gloomy concrete apartment blocks in the former USSR.
I tried custom ROMs and fell in love with stock Android, but the proprietary features of the G3 such as the majority of camera functions fail to work with them.
I'd been reading a lot about Motorola's "Pure" experience, reasonably fast update cycle and ethos around "less is more", plus I'd seen pictures of the Moto line in magazines and they are stunning pieces of kit. From the rounded curves to the textured back.
So I bought the X Style and it arrived this morning (thanks Amazon Prime) and OMG it's practically perfect. From the Pure Android experience, the Turbo Power charging and Moto Display, to the ultra fast burst mode in camera, gestures and the beautiful design.

Welcome, I am also new to the Moto X Pure XT1575 here. So far I have been very pleased with stock rooted, and disabling stuff. Good battery, smooth, way lighter than my Note 4 was, Though the devs over there did a great job. The only thing I have not fell in love with is the fact we have a LED but it isnt usable out of the box.

You dodged a bullet with the G4. It's a bloated, Fort Knox locked down nightmare. Although the camera and removable battery/life was stellar, it was just missing and undesirable on many levels. I ended up selling mine last week and got the Moto x pure. The x pure is exactly what an Android device should be and more.

Welcome. This is my 2nd Moto phone, well 3rd if you count the Droid Mini I foolishly bought due to Verzion's BS restrictions. My normal phone is a 6P, but I had to send it off to be repaired so I needed a phone in the meantime. So far I love it. Great size and feel. I unlocked the BL, but that's it. Honestly I may not root it since the stock Moto software is so solid as is.
I too picked up this sweet phone about a month ago. I had the LG G4 too, which was a GREAT phone but total lockdown. Both phones had almost identical hardware/specs. So, I sold the G4 bought this bad boy and I have never looked back. Love it. Pure Android all the way.
Congrats. Yes, the Moto x pure is a great phone and probably the best phone I've owned. That is saying a lot when coming from iPhone, Galaxy, and Nexus lines. Of course, everything is based on personal preference. Most people who see this phone think it is some Galaxy S'model. But I guess it is a good thing since people who actually want a good phone at a decent price will find their way here.

Thanks. I love it. So much better than my LG G3. It feels better quality, the screen is brighter, sound is clearer and the camera is incredible. Best £200 I've spent in ages.

Hello, all it is great to be back on XDA after long not being able to do anything with my phone because Samsung locks it down so you can't touch the US variants of their phones anymore! I decided to "downgrade" to a Moto G6 and save my money and free myself from Samsungs crapware etc. My thoughts from playing with it so far are that for the price it is incredible! Fast charging is faster than my S9+, battery life is better, overall system responsiveness is very consistent, and the screen is not at all bad! This barely feels like a downgrade at all. It feels like a breath of fresh air in an over saturated market of very pricey devices. I had the original Moto G and it is still to this day the most bang for my buck device ever. It still works and still runs Android 8 even! The OnePlus One is a close contender but I really need something that works on all major US networks. Only Samsung, Apple, HTC, LG, and Motorolla were really options for me. Out of those, I thought the G6 would likely be the most tinker friendly and budget friendly. So far that seems to be holding true as development looks to be on the horizon and there are open kernel sources! Who knows maybe I will take a crack at doing a simple AOSP ROM! Cheers everyone!
P.S. Enjoy the extra money in your pockets from not buying something overpriced like the iPhone X.

I just bought a G6 today and i'm coming from S6 Edge Plus.
Of course, this is not like a S9, but I was using the "port" version of S9 rom and i don't think Samsung's changed that much. After buying this phone I agree and understand what you are talking. I feel like I'm upgrading to a more expensive phone. Everything has this stock animations, smoothness and the battery... Omg... The baterry is fantastic!
I stopped to think about why spend so much i Samsung's phone if you can get even better experience with another phones on the market? Just because of a design that certainly will be covered by a case and a good screen.
Of course I miss the camera, but I can get over it

Just like the OP i have 3 of these moto G6 play's and 1 iPhone X. The G6 is by far the bang for the buck in everyway. These phones even have facial recognition !
BTW, i picked up these phones for less than $100 each.................................

Yeah I am going to miss the camera a lot but for the price it is making me like it a lot more. Also Samsung needs to up their quick charge game. Thinking about the camera again though... For the difference in price you can get a killer used DSLR or maybe even a new one not including lenses.
This is evidence that price does not equal quality. I'm glad you like your phone as much as I like mine.

Wow, what a great post, and I agree with much of what you say, although I live in the UK and carrier networks are somewhat different here. Things aren't quite so locked down.
So, anyway, like yourself, I've also been away from XDA for quite a while, primarily because I'm not rich enough to afford the latest Premium Flagship devices. And over the past few years, I've been running fairly old devices, namely the (HTC built) Nexus 9 tablet and the HTC One M8 phone, both of which hail from 2014.
This hasn't been much of a problem in terms of regular day-to-day use, but to be a contributing member of XDA, it helps if you have more up to date hardware.
I remember buying my HTC One M8 phone way back in September 2014, which cost me over £500 - a fair chunk of cash for me even back then.
Today's Flagship phones are even more expensive (unless you go the contract route, but I prefer to actually own my phone outright), so when my HTC One M8's battery began to fail earlier this year (which is pretty respectable after three and a bit years of use!) ~ at the beginning of July, the phone would shut down when the battery dipped below 70% ~ well, I knew then that I needed a new phone, it couldn't be delayed any longer!
But you develop certain expectations, largely fed by what you read online and by the focus placed on them, that the only phones worth bothering with are Premium Flagship devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S9, Google's Pixel phones, the iPhone X, etc...
...and that any phone not costing an arm and a leg (ie., anything less than around £800) is basically not worth bothering with.
And it's so easy to fall into the trap of believing that. I certainly did, which is why I delayed replacing my M8 for as long as I did, not wanting (and not really able to afford it anyway) to spend upwards of £800 to £900 on a new phone. I guess I could have found the money, but the sacrifices elsewhere in my life, as a result, would have just have been unacceptable to me.

This article 'recalibrated' my expectations and changed my perspective about a phone costing only a quarter of the price of a Flagship device ~ just £220, network unlocked.
So, I bought one. Just over a week ago now.
I transferred the SIM card from my antiquated HTC One M8 and I haven't regretted my purchase for a single minute!
The Moto G6 is a singular delight to look at, to hold and most importantly of all... to use. Smooth and responsive, great screen, fast charging, looks good - what's not to like.
You could buy nearly five of 'em for the price of an iPhone X - all I can say is that the iPhone X must be an extraordinarily and an astonishingly amazing piece of technology, but is it worth £1000? A slightly rhetorical question I know, because value, when it comes to such things, is highly subjective.
Clearly, it's worth it to some people, otherwise Apple wouldn't have sold any of 'em ~ I just couldn't personally justify such an extravagant purchase, even if I did have a spare Grand lying around somewhere!
But going back to the Moto G6 ~ it's a great phone, at a great price, and I doubt I'll ever pay much more than a couple of a hundred pounds for a smartphone ever again, which also means I won't leave it so long until I upgrade again - I mean, £220 (or thereabouts) every couple of years is something I can easily scrape together. Thick end of a £1000... well, not really.
It seems to me that something has recently changed in the smartphone world, and that good quality phones no longer require remortgaging the house! The Moto G6 is evidence of that.

As far as custom mods for the Moto G6 are concerned (ie., root via Magisk, TWRP, Custom Kernels, Custom ROMs, etc.) and all that kind of stuff... well, I guess it will all happen at some point. It's still early days yet, the Moto G6 has only been on the market for around three months, and the dev guys who understand the intricacies of Android required for building the tools needed for these things need time to work on them.
And in any case, I generally wouldn't even bother thinking about unlocking the bootloader until I've had a device for at least six months, primarily for warranty reasons. What's the rush?
And ideally of course, you'd need some means of restoring/re-flashing the Moto G6 back to its factory state before messing around with all of that - and which I don't think there is currently.
Root is certainly nice to have, for things like AdaWay, Greenify and Titanium, but it brings problems of its own, for example when an OTA is imminent ~ it won't install over anything other than unmodified stock. Maybe Magisk has changed that ~ I haven't used Magisk myself, and I'm only familiar with Chainfires SuperSU, which I do know had to 'patch' the boot image/partition for root to work. I had to use Chainfires FlashFire to run an OTA on my rooted Nexus 9, but with Chainfire retiring from the field, I suspect that FlashFire no longer works, and probably wouldn't be supported on the G6 anyway.
Anyhow, whatever the complexities, root doesn't seem to me to be that much of a deal breaker these days. Or maybe I'm just getting old, and I can no longer be bothered with the hassle of it all anymore. I remember (cue: pipe, slippers, cardigan, grumpy old man routine)... I remember back in ICS, Jellybean and KitKat days when root was just so easy to acquire, and you could even flash an official OTA via ClockWorkMod recovery...
...well, those days are long gone, probably for the better actually, because it means Android is now considerably more secure with things like Secure Boot, DM-Verity, Selinix Enforced/Permissive and a whole load of other things I don't really fully understand (but sort of pretend to).
Android is certainly much more slicker and polished these days (anybody here remember Éclair, Froyo and Gingerbread!), with Nougat and Oreo and whatever P will eventually be called, but it doesn't seem to be quite as much fun as it used be back circa 2011-2014 or thereabouts.

Well, having ruminated on all manner of diverse topics here, I'll conclude this ever-so-slightly rambling post by reiterating my opinion on the Moto G6, and totally agreeing with Markon101 and his post above.
It is unquestionably a delightful phone, at an equally delightful price. I'm still amazed that it only cost me a little over £200. I doubt you could even buy a half-decent TV for that kind of money.
Hope everybody else here is equally happy with their Moto G6... I know I certainly am.

I like the Moto G6 but S9+ is by far a better phone. Better cpu,gpu,camera,screen. S9+ feels more premium than the G6 as well. Just my opinion tho. I would never trade an S9+ for a moto G6 tho i do have the G6 as a back up phone

obviously the s9+ is better but is costs over 4 times more than a g6... and you can do a bit more with the motorola. im glad to see some developers have noticed it recently. **** ive had pie since july and ive been able to get like 5 different oreo gsi and three different pie gsi (descendent has a few flaws) to boot and run successfully. the best bang for the buck is the g6. honestly you sound like a fool if you have a g6 as a backup lol. you need a backup phone for a 1000 dollar s9+ ? good thing samsung is letting you get that ota for their best phone this fast because your locked bootloader and ridiculous knox security wont let you even try without cancelling your warranty and after it says void odin tells you that it has failed to flash right as the phone shorts out and tells you that it cant turn on because of moisture in the charge port(my buddy had this issue)and youre like damn, now i gotta use the G6. sorry to be so hard on ya bro but reality is harsh and you sound like a guy that needed a check.
I sort of understand what you mean like when It comes to being a developer It's simple to unlock a Moto bootloader and simple to flash stuff to em and build custom stuff for em. Compared to Samsung you need to use Odin for everything and it might not work right still. along with Samsung knox and there bootloader's being pains to unlock sometimes through unofficial means. You gotta worry about it being a exynos variant or not and there verison of android is not as much of a stock Android experience compared to moto. There's a bunch of stuff I'm sure I'm missing on why you think Moto is better lol. But I mean i have the g4 play, g6 play, and the z2 force and I bought the z2 force just so I can play games on it lol if I was you I would have just kept the s9+ and used it for the things I couldn't use my other phones for lol
I think G6 is decent for the price.
Frankly, I'd prefer IPS over AMOLED all the time.
Now Samsung is way too locked down so I quit. LG isn't that bad on open market model.
I just hope G6 has more development, and G6 plus will come to America because I prefer bigger screen.
The way to wake the phone requires some learning curve but it's not bad.
The only thing I don't like is Google Play Music. I have to close all other apps or local playback stutters.
NFC doesn't matter because I barely use it.
It works well with PD charging
USB-C digital headphones works too

I downgraded too from Galaxy S9 to Moto G6 Play and Moto G6 and I've never been happier. I love to tinker with my phones and was sick of Samsung locking everything up. So I'm happy now with some extra money on pocket.

Just to let y'all know magisk has a camera port from a rog phone. Imo it's a significant upgrade. Not as good as the S9 camera of course but still.?

I found it. Not worth another magisk module messing with my stuff. Everyone should keep them to a minimum, only what's needed to keep stability and needed features. Thanks though.
i have moto g6 .. You can't compare G6 phone with S9. SAMSUNG S9 is a 2018 most selling flagship device and have a good value in market.
