Is there anyway to force an entire phone backup to occur immediately? I looked through the following website:

All I found there was how to force individual apps to backup... I'm wanting to force a backup of everything Google backs up (Market, Settings etc...)

Yeah I do this too... The reason I'm relying on the Android backup this time is because it also backs up WiFi passwords. I use two phones, and a job that's stingey about giving out the WiFi password. So on my main phone I have the WiFi entered (by an employee that won't give out the password to anyone else) and I'm wanting to do a factory reset on my backup phone and restore the main phone's settings, thus putting the WiFi password on the backup phone.
I've tried to manually check the WiFi password in my system with root explorer but it just gives me a series of numbers, which is not the password. Idk how else to transfer the WiFi password to the other phone.

Titanium Backup has the option to backup WiFi settings, or check in wpa_supplicant.conf

The wpa file is what I manually checked and it just showed a coded password, not the actual password. I will look at TB again but for some reason I felt like that didn't work in the past.
Thanks for your suggestions!

so i have titanium backup..
anyway..just flashed my first rom....and when i booted the first time. i set up my google account. Before i could even get to titanium my phone was downloading all my apps and contacts from google.
Any opinions on googles ability to restore stuff? Im contemplating wiping again and disabling auto restore before i set up google. Is it worth it?

Google backup works just fine for downloaded apps and contacts, so why bother?
Well for me this didn't work. I did some wipes now but the Google backup functionality never worked for me. Therefore I always use TB.
well this is the first time ive flashed a custom rom. Was running stock for the first few weeks of root.
The first time i flashed and set up my phone google didnt do anything
Was having some probs so i decided to wipe and reflash...the second time google went crazy and started dowloading everything from the market.
I always use Ti Backup. In my experience, Google backup doesn't always backup and/or restore all my data and I end up uninstalling and re-installing through TB anyways.
If you choose to go the TB route, remember to force a re-do of all your backups (or at least of user apps) before wiping data and flashing a new rom. That way you'll ensure having the most current data from your apps when you re-install.
Also if you want to only restore from titanium, just skip the google sign in setup, and uncheck the restore from google setting. Go to the market and download titanium restore all the apps and data, wifi and bluetooth settings only. Restoring system data from an old rom or stock rom to a new one may bork your system.

Yes but make sure your phone wont autosync. When you skip the setup that should also skip the autosync as well. Just in case go to settings, accounts and sync and make sure autosync is unchecked. Sign into the market and get titanium backup. If you have a rom like coredroid, it may already be included. Check your particular rom for details.
Well I used titanium after I reflashed. I restored all user apps. System data is where I'm confused cuz there is so much data. I'm thinking contact sms Bluetooth settings wifi settings and sense desktop are what you would want to backup. Most of these were in green type.
However..... After restoring I still noticed multiple copies of friendstream and a lot of weather apps which all seem to be the same thing. I dlfeel like I got a bunch of dupes

Have you check also a full backup via recovery mode? It can be scheduled by script or any automation app (like Tasker for instance).
Your backup is each time consistent because your device is in recovery mode.
The drawback of this is to get a custom recovery for your device (TWRP or Clockworkmod)
For years now, i'm doing weekly backups of my apps via Titanium Backup and once a month an automatic backup via Recovery. I never never had any kind of issue for the restore.

Normaly if you choose to save phone settings to google servers, by using the same google account on your backup phone, you should get back wifi crendentials.
Note that if you're root, Titanium Backup can also do wifi credentials backup.

Just read a news. You can check the file wpa-supplicant.conf in folder /data/misc/wifi with a root explorer app.
All wpa key are readable. Enjoy
i would like to install google prey or similar apps as an system app, or default app so when you factory reset the device it is already installed with the user and configuration, are the tutorials "installing app as system app" the ones that will work?
any tips for where to go or what to do? thanks

If you're rooted you can use Titanium Backup to convert it to a system app or you can use ES File Explorer with root explorer enabled to manually push it to your /system/app folder then boot to recovery and wipe cache and Dalvik/Art cache then reboot to system.
You can also use adb to adb push it to /system/app folder.

It won't delete the app but it will delete the settings but you can also use Titanium Backup to backup and restore the app data for that app, you can also backup the app data to google and you can restore it from Google.

but will titanium backup survive factory reset?
do any one know if you can also move the settings to specific locations to avoid them being deleted? for airdroid, or google prey or any other app that can track?
for airdroid the apk and the lib files hat to be moved to system folders and it stays after a factory reset, but anything that looses the settings over a factory reset is pretty much useless for stolen devices, the first step a thief takes is factory reset and format the device. all aps on play store is as good as nothing when it comes to recovering a stolen device. :silly:

Titanium Backup will back up whatever apps, app data and settings that you want it to.
You can use Titanium Backup to make itself a system app, it won't get removed by the factory reset, then just use it to restore everything that you backed up.
There is plenty of information about all of this all over XDA and all over the internet if you'll just take the time to do some searching. Get off your butt and get to looking and you'll see.
As for the device being stolen, there are apps that you can install on the device that can be used to lock the device or wipe the device or even track the device to its location or last known location, whichever of those apps you use to secure your device can also be made into system apps using Titanium Backup. Then if its stolen and wiped the apps will still be there.
It isn't rocket science, why are you over thinking and complicating it?

hi, i'm not trying to over complicating it, the thing is that i tried moving aps like google prey and airdroid that can locate a device to the system folders but when i factory reset the device, the apps are there but the configuration of the aps is gone, i want the configuration to stay alive with the aps, because thieves just factory reset the device at the moment they steal it and then you kiss your device good bye, at least if i can get the configuration to stay alive then i have a 50% chance against thieves, at the moment the chance is next to none.
the reason i ask is to not waste time testing things that some one already know, i searched but don't find good tutorials on that, and i'm not sure if Titanium Backup will work for that, i was expecting some one knowing the software like Titanium Backup can tel me that if i do convert an app to a system app with Titanium, that the system app and its configuration will sirvive a reset and not just the app.
i will test Titanium Backup later today when i have some free time, thanks

Factory reset removes all data and settings when you factory reset even for system apps, there is no way to protect that data from a factory reset. You can back it up and restore it but you can't prevent it from being wiped.
There is an alternative though, you can remove the recovery, then turn USB debugging off then password/PIN protect your system settings app.
Removing recovery ensures that they can't use recovery to factory reset.
Turning off USB debugging ensures that they can't flash the device with PC or use adb/fastboot because PC won't recognise the device.
Password/PIN protecting your system settings app prevents them from getting into your system settings so they can't factory reset from settings.
The one issue with this setup is that if your device encounters an issue where it won't boot or bootloops then even YOU won't be able to fix it because you won't have recovery and you won't be able to connect to PC because you won't be able to get into settings to turn USB debugging back on to be able to flash it.
Research these things to verify its safe to do on your device because all devices are different and things are different depending on the device in question.

thank you
I'm interested in this topic, since nobody seems care that much to write up a friendly method to do that...
Not friendly
These guys claim to know these things but fail to even give a link to a tutorial on how to do it. Its infuriating. They tell us to research but asking here on XDA is part of research. Pls give a valid tutorial on how to secure prey data so it doesn't get deleted.

App in question is WhatsApp and I need the app including the registration etc on the new phone. Titanium backup can do that, but obviously needs root

For that I'd need a way to remove everything from the backup besides WhatsApp though. As that does a backup and restore of everything, all apps, all file system etc IIRC
Trying adb backup now, there seems to be a java tool that allows you to open the backup file on pc

Is that the Samsung moving phones thingy? Does that move apps including it's data so you don't have to set them up again?
I usually avoid the moving data from phone to phone during setup, because I take setting up a new phone as an opportunity to clean up data/apps. So I only reinstall those I actually need
EDIT: Just tried it, sadly not:

Yeah thanks, I know it's possible with root which I don't have and doing it wipes the phone which makes my whole reason for this pointless.
This whole post was just asking if there's any way to do it without root. If you can't help don't reply?
The title says it all. I've got this backup on the Google drive cloud from my old phone. There are no options to restore from it. Is the only time to restore from the old phone's backup at setup?!
I was wondering that too and I just assumed you could do so during setup by selecting the "cable doesn't fit" option or saying you didn't have access to your old phone. Not sure about after setup tho..

I can't believe there's no other way to utilize our backups except during the time of setup ridiculous. Does anyone know if there's a way to get the backups on our new device after setup or how to force the setup menu?
It's not too tough, using ADB, or it doesn't appear tough (I haven't actually tried this, but retrieving and using the correct token-values seems pretty straightforward): https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/testingbackup
There do appear to have been some "launch apps" that were able to trigger this through a (hidden) system-app-launch, but I see zero mention in more recent (i.e. > A9) times...
My personal peeve is the fact that Google makes it incredibly difficult to access (can't even see these anymore on my Drive account), and create some sort of restore-point backup, of a device. You can use this same adb technique above, but what if you just want to "fiddle with some sketchy apps", or similar, and have a couple of bailout backups, it's sure not easy, by any stretch...

I just moved my swift backup from my PC to my p7p. I'm ready to restore. Google seems to have done a good job restoring my apps through its backup. It didn't seem to restore any of the data though. How should I do the restore with swift? Do I just restore the data for system and user apps? Do I slrwatore the APKs too? Given that most of not all the apps have been restored by Google what happens if I restore the APKs with swift too? Will the apps be duplicated?
