What do you see different from other ROMs? I'm curious to try it, I just have a hard time understanding the differences between the CM based ROMS out there (pure CM, BlissPop, this one, ect.)

Good question. Pure CM to me has become a really baseline ROM, it has few customization options compared to other custom ROMs, and, to me at least, is kind of a rooted stock rom. Pure CM has no multitasking options (choice of recents, i.e. omniswitch, slim, etc.), few general UI tweaks outside of the theme engine, especially in the status bar, and has a very basic kernel. CM has become a ROM that is almost tailor made for novices, evidenced by so many instances of "I wanna root and install CM" in the root and unlock tool threads, as well as the general sections on many devices.
Blisspop is the type of ROM that includes just about every popular cherry pick out there, but, to be honest, half of the features in bliss I rarely or never use at all, and, though I like bliss in general, occasionally, I want to use something that I feel is more tailored to my usage and needs than something that tries to cater to every appetite.
CrDroid has plenty of customization options, but, at the same time, I feel that the settings menus are easier to navigate compared to most ROMs, that the extras in CR settings are deep enough for one to be glad they're there, but at the same time not overbearing in terms of number or organization. It's nice to have an selinux mode switch built in too, though I mostly use terminal for things of that nature to offer myself supreme control, but also a lot fewer installed apps. The best thing about crDroid, IMO, is that it's not a nightly ROM, releases tend to be more stable than ROMs that include "experimental" features.
As far as the differences between all the CM based ROMs, i usually just cruise the gits of each project to get an idea of what to expect. Temasek's CM, AICP, and uber CM all have pros and cons, if you're unfamiliar with git, you can always check the changelog, feature list, and user posts for those ROMs to get an idea of what they include, and what users like and dislike about them. Just my opinion, hope I answered your question.

Thank you, that's a very detailed answer and I agree with you, it's great to have customizations but I get lost as well with Bliss or Dirty unicorn, I don't need to tweak so many things on the Nexus. In fact when I see so many options, it's a turn off because usually there is a risk of glitches and I don't want those just for the ability to change the color of the arrows over the WiFi icon or something like that. In fact I find myself using CleanROM a lot because I know it doesn't have all the tweaks but also none of the problems. I keep hearing great things about CM though so I really want to give a CM rom a try with elemental-X so this one might be it!

Thanks for your feedback guys, next build, as i do for all other devices i build for, will always include changelog. attached.
And Indeed, crDroid philosophy is not to include all new gadget around but just the one we think will be helpful for day to day use.
Hope you'll enjoy the build and don't hesitate to provide feedback, it thanks to you that we progress
Cheers & Nice day

Hi mate,
I don't know exactly what you did, but created a restricted profile, took a picture, found ir back in the photo app, then switch back to my profile and picture wasn't there.
Maybe i did not understood well.
Cheers

You have a restricted profile created, then when you click on the right icon for configuration and then when you click on the left icon of the profile you are getting a small window "Profile info" Here you have two options: "Take photo" and "Choose photo from Gallery" Whatever you choose a picture is not assigned to the profile. It was working on cm 12.1 nightly build but don't remember on which version.

Busy day flashing tomorrow...?
Wow man, love this ROM!
Sent from my Nexus 7
Love the Black Material theme. So much customization too. Thanks for the awesome ROM.
To say I'm happy with this ROM would be a massive understatement.
12 hours 30 mins SOT with WiFi on is insane. Mostly that was tapatalk and chrome, g+. I also downloaded a few apps and a ROM. I've never managed this before on KitKat or Lollipop! [emoji2] [emoji41]
Thanks to everyone that has worked on this ROM.
Always hear about this ROM so thought I'd take it for a spin. Interface is really good looking! Similar to another ROM I tried this weekend though, GPS doesn't seem to work for me (with WiFi turned off). I'll keep watching its progress ?
Update: Must be a kernel issue. I installed elemental x kernel, and GPS came back online ?
Thanks for the ROM, works great. Battery life is awesome so far! The only problem I'm having is with Google Play movies. I get the message Playback isn't supported on this device. Is there something I can download to make this work?
Thanks,
Erin

thanks for update, I rarely use my N7 since I got my N6 back in november but it's good to have Validus on both now. Thanks again!
@oadam11 Just popping in to say hi
To stay on topic, I've been running and the previous build for over a week without any issues what so ever. Theme run nicely, although the latest cm commits will apparently make them better still.
Loving it. Keep up the good work!
Good job!
I just heard about Validus today for the first time. I have installed it on my "flo" device, and I'm happy.
Thank you for the great work!
A few minor issues:
1. Tiles sometimes disappear when they are being moved around in Settings->Notification drawer->Select and order tiles
2. Custom icons don't display when selected for Navigation Bar buttons in Settings->The void->Navigation bar->Editor
3. Turning off Settings->Notification drawer->Show brightness slider is ignored. Slider remains, and setting always turns back "on".
Things I especially like:
1. Moving, changing, and adding Navigation Bar buttons. This is the only 5.0.x ROM I have found so far which offers this capability.
2. Changing screen DPI from within Settings, without the need of any special build.props management utility.
Wish list:
1. Allow optional date next to the time in the Status Bar.
2. Allow the color to be selected for Status Bar icons.
3. Move, change, add, remove Power Menu buttons.
Anyway, keep up the good work!
.
I just downloaded the 02/03 version of this ROM. Works well!
The following two issues still remain:
1. Tiles sometimes disappear when they are being moved around in Settings->Notification drawer->Select and order tiles
2. Turning off Settings->Notification drawer->Show brightness slider is ignored. Slider remains, and setting always turns back "on".
Also, I see that the navigation bar buttons are now managed differently than before. In Settings->Buttons->Navigation bar->Buttons and layout, we no longer can assign custom actions to navigation bar buttons. I liked the fact that I could do that in the 01/27 ROM. Will we be able to assign custom actions to navigation bar buttons in a future release?
Anyway, thanks for all the work.
.
Hey guys. New build is up in the OP. Enjoy!
i just sorta randomly picked this for my n713 - and I am highly impressed!! The battery life has been awesome and it hasn't even had time to "settle". I had never heard of this rom before just trying it out, couldn't be happier! Thanks for your work!

I think so.
All ROM here are unified : you can flash all of them on your phone
This ROM rocks! I reverted to Lollipop after half year of CM13 due to touch lag. I grew bored of CM12.1 and I decided to flash this, because I always liked the Carbon ROM project. This build is working fine, with little or no errors and it works buttery smooth, fast, with minimal slowdown. The only complaint is battery life but I guess it's the phone's battery accustoming to the firmware as I have it for less than a day. It's a shame that you abandoned it, as it's an excellent CM12.1 and CM13 alternative with both speed and customizations. Games run much faster on Carbon than on Stock, CM12.1 and CM13, and critical functions work perfectly, no wonder it's already labeled stable.
Oh, and I want to report an unusual bug (doesn't fit in the standard tracker format).
The flash script might have an issue, because at the end of the update the last two lines indicated:
Code:
unmount of /system failed: no such volume
Code:
Success!
XT1072, at the time running cm13.0-20160420-nightly with TWRP 3.0.2-1
I freaked out, thinking that the faulty script ****ed up my system and I was left out with a damaged partition table but then I installed GApps normally with their script writing into /system, I browsed /system's folders with TWRP's file manager and the phone booted into Carbon after reboot. I think your script unmounts /system improperly or it makes a bad unmount call somehow, I don't know recovery scripting and you should fix it (abandoned I know but please fix this. not a major issue but scary).

I didn't make the flash script, it is created automatically when we build a ROM.
I usually don't pay attention to error when flashing as long as it is successful. So will 99% of the end users...
However I don't know why you have this error...
I won't fix it because it is not really annoying and building Carbon takes around 8 to 9 hours on my old computer which I also use in my daily life.
But nothing prevents you from trying to fix it by yourself

About Us:
Dirty Unicorns is a project that started out with no name. It was a project that was first based off AOKP back in the early days of Jelly Bean. In the early days it was just a one man show on one device, the EVO 3D. Since then, many others have joined the project and it has grown exponentially.
We have seen a lot of talent contribute to this project of ours. Big or small, the focus was always on contributing to the community. That is ultimately why we do what we do. After Jelly Bean, we decided to move to a new base, OmniROM. While AOKP was fun, OmniROM proved to be even more exciting base because it challenged us to see what we could do with a project that had different goals in mind. We learned a lot and again, gain contributors. With Lollipop, we moved to an AOSP base with a lot of patches from CAF to make our older devices function as they should. We grew even more and learned a whole lot more.
It has been an awesome learning experience and is still not over! We are still learning every day and continue to move forward. Lastly, we DO NOT accept, nor ask, for donations. We don't believe in that. Everything that is necessary to keep this project going is out of our own pocket. Gerrit, Jenkins, Websites, Devices, etc. We will never ask for a dime. All we do ask, is that you have patience, search, read and try to enjoy the process with us!!
Note: I have been creating these unofficial builds for a while now, but they have only been posted on Google Plus in the past. Updates should come weekly in most cases, though of course this is not always possible. Expect new builds on Sunday (usually).

Are you coming from a ROM with Layers?
Make sure you remove your 'overlay' folders and perform a FULL WIPE
My battery stats are all messed and reporting the wrong percentage, what can I do?
Stop using another kernel. Do a FULL WIPE and flash the ROM again
Is this ROM CM based or AOSP based?
This ROM is based off AOSP
Does this ROM have layers or the CMTE?
This ROM uses the CM theme engine
Pulse doesn't work with [insert music app]
Check this thread out https://plus.google.com/101146731143...ts/TcSzc61xuVx
I'm getting a FC from the theme chooser, what gives?
This is due to restoring data/apps from Google. Go ahead and clear data and cache for theme chooser and theme provider then reboot you should be good moving forward.
I changed my LCD density and now the navbar looks weird, what gives?
This is currenly an issue that we are aware of and addressing. For now after you changed density reset navbar layout or stay on the stock density.

Secured lock screen bouncer does not behave correctly.
It works with missed calls as intended which would show the missed call notification on lock screen but other than that it would not behave correctly on any other notifications such as text messages

On lock screen config there is a bouncer setting (which is only there ifyou have a secured lock screen) that lets you bypass the lock screen and go straight to the pattern unlock if there is no notifications pending. It's a great feature but it only works on missed calls. It would not work on messaging or any other notifications.
Anotherwords, if you have this feature on and get a text message, when you turn on the display instead of showing you the text message notification on lock screen, it would take you straight to pattern unlock screen, meaning you have no notifications.

I was on RR and it was fairly smooth and had good battery life. It had problems with wifi, bluetooth and telephone calls. I've been on Unicorn for a day and I really like it so far; battery isn't great but need to tweak my settings to get better life.

That's it. No more versions of CM13 based ROMs from me. Those are the best ROMs based on CM13 in my opinion: Resurrection Remix, Bliss, Temasek's CM13 builds, BeanStalk, AICP and PAC ROM (in future, hopefully). You can bring other ROMs based on CM13 (and I encourage you to do it). You can send me PM if you want to bring new ROMs based on CM13, help me to update existing ROMs (or help me to build AOSP branches and kernels for tate). I've got only 2 cores with 4GB of RAM. I'll bring updates like once in 2-3 month (for each ROM).
You are doing a great job. Thank you for that
Do not want to bother you or any other dev but I really hope someone will fix the camera issue very soon...

Yes, I want it either. But I hope to bring AOSP and then ROMs based on AOSP first. A new kernel is needed. Then I'll try to finally fix the camera issue. So, please, be patient.

transi brought the 3.0.101+ kernel over to the kindles (along with some other tweaks), and I'm not sure which one's responsible for the camera crash, but it's definitely related to those commits. I'm compiling against a fork of the repos prior to those edits, and the resulting builds seem to have a functional camera.

I can't build AOSP with transi's kernel. It says "can't compile SGX Module" or something like that. Samsung Tuna (ti omap4460) has exactly the same SGX Module strings and it works. There are a lot of similarities between tate's and tuna's branches, by the way. Check out this link. I didn't try to use Hashcode's kernel though. Anyway, I'll try everything possible to build the right kernel and finally get a flashable zip. And only then I'll try to fix CM.
@alexander_32: I'm using your plain cm13 build and everything is fine aside from the boot time taking ~10min each time coming from complete power off. Do your builds of cm13 rom variants have the same issue? I know this has been a common reported issue since transi switched to the new kernel, so I'm guessing it is to blame for this as well. Building a better kernel definitely seems to be the priority right now.

All my CM13 builds use transi1's github repos. Bliss ROM as well. As you can see, unfortunately, he has only one type of CM13 branches (cm-13.0), with no modes. If there were branches which he used to build AICP (separately), we could easily figure out what causes camera issue (3 party camera app works on AICP). But it is what it is, there is only CM13 source (which is stuck at the moment) and transi1 is not very responsive.
I assume, it would be better to get a new kernel and get rid of -common folders (simplify the code).
I'm liking this rom so far. It seems to use less ram, and I don't have to do any tweaking to get it to run fast. Nice job!!

I agree with this statement. This is the best rom I've used so far on the tate. I still think bumping the max cpu freq to 1500mhz (using conveniently built-in kernel aduitor in this rom) is worthwhile, but aside from that, it's very fast out of the box.
Had been running 4.4 Carbon for the last long while, but will give this a try. Basically lust looking for somewhat decent experience/smoothness from these aging Kindles. 5.1 didnt run great on my Kindle, so time to try 6 :fingers-crossed:
Seems rather responsive!
Thought I was having play back issues for mp4s but seems ok now.
**Changing interactive's tuneables to jump quicker to 1200 & 1500 also seems to help a bit

After using BeanStalk (with kernel from RR 5.6.5) for a week, I have decided to stick to it. Thank you guys @vasolini , @r3t3ch for your positive responses. You pushed me to try it and I appreciate it. I really like what I see, no random reboots, it just does what I need to do and it does it very well. I don't know if it's appropriate to change status to stable, but it's reliable enough for sure.
Same here. I am keeping this one on the kindle fire. It works the best so far.

It doesn't have the delayed boot time of stock cm13 either and it runs as quick as you'd expect from a 2012 tablet. You should consider building it for jem as well so more people can get a chance to try it.

I don't have jem, so I can't test it, plus I only got 2 cores with 4 GB of RAM (it takes a lot of time). Maybe today I'll be lucky enough to bring AOSP for tate (I've got 2 flashable zips, but haven't tested it yet)...
It works, but the Boot Time is very long, up to 3 minutes. But maybe its my fault first there was CM 11 installed.
And the status bar is to small. But it runs fast and it works for me. I only use it for chromecast.

From official Paranoid Android team :
"We’re really excited to announce that we are releasing our Nougat flavour of Paranoid Android. We have a lot in store - with a mix of both features & improvements.
First & foremost, we have moved our code base to be fully CAF based. This brings many improvements to your device. The key improvement here is that Qualcomm hardware is better tuned on the CAF base and with our additional optimizations we can provide a smooth and fluid user experience that will let you enjoy using your device without any lags.
On first launch you’ll notice a clean setup with a beautiful wallpaper from Hampus Olsson who’s teamed up with us again and created several beautiful pieces of artwork. For those of you who don’t know, Hampus is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work stands itself and we’re glad to have him onboard. We have also added several new features and made improvements to the UI of the system that we believe would enhance the overall experience.
Pie
We’ve been working hard on redesigning this key feature of our portfolio and we’re really happy with how it has turned out. The whole design has been reworked and it fits in well with the overall feel of Google’s Material Design. This gives you the opportunity to use more gesture based control for navigating, rather than using the standard Navigation Bar at the bottom of your screen. Expect improvements and additions in the future.
Color Engine
We’re proud to announce our newest feature - Color Engine. Color Engine allows you to seamlessly change the colors of your device to be in Light, Dark (Pixel) and Black modes with a variety of accent colors to choose from. This makes changing the theme of your device really quick without having to install any extra packages on your device.
Pocket Lock
This feature prevents any form of accidental input when your device is in your pocket by disabling input sources. You can simply release Pocket Lock by long pressing the power button as highlighted by the minimal UI incase of any sort of obstruction or dust on the sensors.
Accidental Touch
Accidental Touch is a feature useful for many, especially the gamers out there. It prevents any sort of accidental touch on hardware buttons while the touchscreen is in use. This means you won’t experience any unexpected behaviour while playing games, web browsing or even when attempting to reach your finger out to the edge of that humongous display.
Major features:
- Reworked Pie
- Color engine
- Pocket lock
- Immersive mode
- Buttons customization (including navigation bar)
- On the spot controls (OTS)
Minor features:
- SafetyNet Compatibility
- Battery/Notification LED control
- Recent tasks locking
- Battery icon customization
- Google now page in default launcher
- Accidental touch
- Three finger swipe Screenshot
- Substratum (OMS) support (Color engine will be deactivated if you use Substratum)
- Quick pulldown
- Various performance and battery improvements
- Display Burn-in protection (for OLED screens)
- More to explore
Note: Custom kernels are explicitly unsupported and will cause issues
unless they state that they are AOSPA compatible or AOSPA based!

This is crazy. I was on the old PA thread a week ago and thought it was wishful thinking to hope for a Nougat PA build for Falcon. Gonna try this after my exams! :fingers-crossed:
P.S.: I noticed SELinux is permissive, is there any way to have it enforcing by default? Apart from apps that change it for you? Maybe an init.d script (if the ROM supports it) could do the trick?
