Unidentified side bar on nexus 5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello xda,
I need some help. I have nexus 5. It's rooted. And I use xposed modules. I have been a facing this problem since today. Whenever I swupe from left a black rectangular box appears on the side of the phone.. And I tap on it several times, swipe, long press ( I don't know what works) to get rid of it.. Need help figuring out what it is and how to disable it. Images of the same have been attached
Following is the list of modules that I use
Gravitybox
Snapprefs
Clean lockscreen
Zoom for Instagram
I have but not activated
Xmulti window
Boot manager
And had uninstalled xsuite today or yesterday don't remember
Thankyou in advance

At first, reboot into safe mode to check if this side bar is caused by a user or system app.
Then try again without Gravitybox. There's a black border like that when changing the position of LMT Launcher. Do you have it?
Another solution would be to record a log when you tap on it.

Did not understand your reboot into safe mode solution. Can you explain what exactly to do and how to fibd out if it is a system app or user app. I do not have any launcher. How do I record a log?

Mapping "Search" button to notifications

Hello!
I've got a problem with my Desire.
Few days ago, my digitizer got damaged. I've got about 5mm of inactive touchscreen on the top. This makes notification bar inoperable (i have to rotate phone to open it). I want to buy new phone anyway, but I will use Desire as long as it will work.
So here's my idea to map Search button to notifications. I'm not using this button anyway.
Is there any way to do this? My phone is rooted, running on custom rom based on Android 4.2.2
Help me please!
I think exposed addition has that option. Just get the installer and u can download the module from the app.
Another option is launchers with gestures, i used go and apex, they have such option, u can set slide down for notification or double tap.
Cheers....
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk 2
Sounds interesting, gonna try this framework!
Also, I've got Apex onboard right now, but I'm afraid gestures will not work when I've got another application in foreground. Worth trying anyway.
Thanks for now!
Checked out both suggestions, and none worked well...
Apex - as I said before: Gestures aren't global - works only in main screen
Xposed Additions - there's such option in this module, but i can't see any notifications-related There's also paid version of Additions but I'm not into buying yet.
Any further ideas?
Sent from my Desire S using xda app-developers app
Yes, u are right, should have checked before suggesting xposed addition, they dont have such feature u wanted.
Since u have xposed, you can try Gravitybox. See if they have such funtion in their keyremap. They also have option to enable nav bar and pie.
Lmt, if i remember correctly, if i click on the clock on pie, the notification bar came down.
Sorry, currently on an old rom so cant test but only able to give blind suggestions.
Thank You again. I've installed GravityBox, and partly achieved my goal - I mapped notifications to menu button. There's no option to map anything to "Search" button, but I'll try to do it another way though.

[HELP NEEDED] Some apps not installing, can't click "Next"!??

Friends, Android user of 10 years. Never seen this issue, EVER. Came over from an Axon 7 yesterday. Here's the situation.
Mate 9 US Version B138
Not Rooted or altered AT ALL
Unknown sources is checked in Security
Developer Options enabled
No screen dimmer apps
Blue Eye filter disabled and enabled when this happened
Basically, when trying to install some apps via a File Manager, not the Play Store, some apps are installing like any other would, while others are not letting me click the "Next" button during the installation process. No errors, no other indicators of why? "Cancel" button works fine. While some other APKs even the "Next" button works and everything installs fine.
Like I said... I have never ever seen this weird issue before. The closest was when I had a non root blue light filter app on and the "Install" button wouldn't work, no errors, no other indicators.
Can someone please help? Have you seen this issue before?
Thanks!

Thanks brother, but that wasn't it...
[SOLVED]
For anyone else who may face this issue, here's the solution:
It's similar to the screen dimmer/blue light filter issue. Basically, I was using a custom theme that was skinning the Package Installer. Somehow, the system must have seen this as "drawing" over the application and therefore disabled any app installations. That still does not explain why some APKs were installing, but this is good enough. The fix is to revert to stock theme and install your APK then.
Thanks to anyone that tried to help!
I had the same problem with a theme yesterday - went back to stock because of it. Kind of annoying

I hear ya bud! Even scarier, this issue is not documented anywhere, hope this post helps others! Have you seen this issue with EVERY theme?
Thanks for your input!
I have been having trouble finding themes I like - I like dark themes but then they look terrible in the email app (everything dark except the email body is colored or white which looks bad). Finally found the BWM black & white theme I liked and that had the installer problem. For now, back to stock.
Is it possible that those failed apps needed much more free space on your mobile?
This issue actually occurs if you have any screen filter apps installed in your device. Some apps that are known to cause the apk file installation problem include Twilight, Screen Adjuster, Easy Eye, Darker and Blue Light Filter.
In addition, any persistant overlay may prevent usage of the "install" or "next" button when installing an app from the SD card. Chat heads, floating battery stats, etc are all possible culprits.
This is a safety built into android to prevent an app from popping up an overlay over the required permissions list and showing a "safe" list of required permissions on top of the real list of persmissions that allow it to read your texts, pick your wallet, and root around in your underwear drawer.

Hey James, thanks for your thoughtful responses. No I definitely have a lot of space, and to your point, this problem is famously known with other phones and with the "Install" button. But two things make it unique:
1. Huawei calls their install button "Next" so this is hard to find a Google solution to.
2. I don't have any of those apps you mentioned, otherwise I would have solved that issue right away. The culprit here was a theme an .hwt file... So that's why I was struggling to find an answer...
Thanks again!

Another clue for your reference.
As I know, Huawei mate 8 has a feature which is some like those "Bluelight Filter for Eye Care" apps.
Settings - Display - SCREEN - Eye confort.
So, is there this stock blue light filter feature on your phone? If yes, is it possible that the issue resulted from this feature enabling?

Yes it exists in the Mate 9 James, and of course I disabled or turned it off... The problem was still there... It's the themes, some of them fool the system into thinking a screen drawing is enabled to it doesn't allow for installation. Strangely, my current custom theme is allowing for installation... :-\
I'm having similar issues. The apps I can't get to install are; Anything from Amazon App store underground app. mSecure app, and various others.
2nd: Phone will NOT pair with external Camera that I have...HTC Re-Cam, or LG 360 Camera.

I think I solved the issue today.
Using stock theme app, apply the stock EMUI theme. Reboot phone, than try to install applications.
My thoughts:... any non-stock theme being used/applied creates an overlay. So when the "next" button isn't responding (when the next button is at the top of install screen), it's cause the real button is located on the bottom right.

Frustrated - Virtual buttons no longer disappearing / or going transparent

Hey guys, I could use a hand. For some reason this AM my Nav buttons no longer are transparent on my phone ANYWHERE on ANY app. I use Nova launcher and I don't see a setting there. I checked the Display under settings and I don't have a color selected.
On the lock screen the home buttons are not there so I don't see this and have a full screen display. Any help would be appreciated.
Tried a restart?

Try Safe Mode? If the problem vanishes there, try a normal reboot again and try a default theme or different launcher, perhaps.

I tried it. Still not working. It shows as transparent for a quick second, then goes black.
* I did go to Touchwiz and it did go full screen, but all apps still had the nav bar as black and wouldn't hide. Only if I open a YouTube video in full screen will it disappear.

Bump. Still having the issue.
Try to use app call Shortcutter and enable immersive mode
Have you tried going to Settings/Display/Navigation Bar and adjusting setting? The latest update changed the colors available for the nav bar.

It appears that looking at your screenshots i see no dot in left corner.? of navbar. So i presume
you have not received /done latest Samsung Update.?
Latest update has a dot, leftside of navbar.
If you tap it you navbar goes into Immersive
mode.
I have done latest update and using Nova Prime.
I have no issues with navbar. etc etc.
I replied to another thread (similar issue) earlier with

the latest Samsung software Build number should be .............AQF7
( as far as i know ) .
I don't think you are on this .Look at my screenshots
You will see white dot left corner ?
and when you want to use keyboard you have small keyboard icon
right side ,see screenshot .I do not see this in your screenshots ?
I am on latest build with Nova and have no issues with navigation bar .
So it difficult to test from my side as it seems we are on different Samsung build versions .?
Before my update i was using 3rd party app Shortcutter ( immersive mode )
Very good quality app .You can check it out in meantime .Works 100 %

With all respect ,it does not seem like you on latest software, as your are still on " ....AQEF "
( according to your screenshot ).
I am on " ............AQF7 " ( see my screenshot in my post #14 above )
It's this "..........AQF7" update ,that has the with dot .in navigation bar ..
All you can do is wait (?) for update .........AQF7 ( or similar ) .
Otherwise install a 3rd party app Shortcutter, which has this function ( immersive mode ) and a lot of other tweaks ( no root options ).
A very good quality app and very handy .
I have seen other , ADB commands tweaks that you can do to enable similar ( very easy if you , know what ADB is )
I still use Shortcutter app even though i have the with dot option in navigation bar .
Good luck

I hear what you're saying, but my issue was that I had no problems before. All of the sudden it just stopped working regardless of the release. I do agree Verizon does stall on updates specifically for security reasons and because they're assholes.

Ok,
Then you still got one basic option left.
(according to me)
Factory reset.! Yes, i know it's a hassle, but if you want to fix it, then factory reset. See screenshot
There is a option in device settings, for you to
reset settings, but it hardly works.
From time to time a certain device setting does
get "broken".
I had this with a few different devices eg Note
4, Note 5 and S 8 +.
eg Bluetooth switch toggle, switches alarm icon on. (for few seconds.)
Auto rotate icon missing.
On S8 +, the AoD was "broken /not working"
Only a factory reset eventually fixed it.!
Anyway i would try a factory reset, if i was "fed up" and wanted to fix issue.?
Good luck
After factory reset yesterday this also started happening to me. I did not receive that update everyone keeps talking about.

Accessibility services keep resetting

Hi,
I tried to remap my Jovi button using the button remapper app but it stops working after a while. I have it locked in recent apps, set up as an exception in battery saver, I even ADB uninstalled the i Manager app but without success. Then I figured out my accessibility keeps resetting from on to off for all apps (not just the button remapper). Do you have any ideas how to stop it from doing so?
P.S. I don't think factory reset will help as this was the problem from the very beginning, before any modifications were made.
Thanks a lot!
I've had the exact same issues but have no idea why it's happening.
Also, from the sounds of things, a number of other people have had similar problems in the thread explaining how to re-map the button.
Same issue here. Except with Nova Launcher. Accessibility keeps turning off.
still no soultion for this issue? im getting frust already. huh

I fond a solution for the accessibility issue
STEPS
1. Open the app enable accessibility
2. Go to the recent apps menu and block it (with the lock)
3. Then reboot and DO NOT CLOSE IT BEFORE U REBOOT
4. When you boot up you will see in the recent apps menu the app will be not there and your good to go

Question widgetupdatet and musicproxy

I can successfully run widgetupdatet and musicproxy on my uis7862 unit.
But I think i need to make it start at boot/wakeup and also make it not battery optimized
So for start at boot/wake up, i turn it on with User - application. But this make widgetupdater app show up everytime when unit boot up, which i prefer it to hidden
For battery optimized setting, I don't have battery option from my setting menu.
May I have your advice on this?

Thanks
Hello.
The newest firmware doesn't have battery settings. Install this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sika524.android.quickshortcut and find "Settings suggestions". Launch it and type in the search field "Battery".

cool, thanks. Let me try this app on my unit for battery setup part
May I know how about the startup part, anyway I can make the app screen do not popup and make a more silent startup?
(for my firmware, I can make app startup automatically in settings -> user -> application settings
Thanks again
@KёniG
I've switched to paid version and turn on "silent start" seems it will just flash then go away which is good now.
However I don't find the way to open the app to change settings anymore (don't see the icon at notification menu) . need to wipe out the app data to get back to setting screen

My answer above is about silent start up.
If you have the restricted notification bar it is required to reinstall the app to enter settings. Silent mode is not appropriate way for you.

Thanks, so either I can still choose silent startup but need to reinstall app if i need to change settings
Or
I dont make it silent startup but i will see the setting screen everytime the unit starts?
and one last thing
After I use musicproxy+widgetupdater. When I use my wheel button - "mode" to change the source, it will go through radio, Phone, Bluetooth music, then my specified music player, then stopped if i press "mode" again. Originally, the next app is the map and then loop back to radio. Is it normal behaviour?
Thank you so much
Played a bit more, seems AIMP is working fine to loop the button cycle.

silent startup still make the app no longer configurable but is ok as I don't think need to always configure that often.
For wheel button issue, I find out is my specific app (KKBox) issue. If I change to AIMP or another music app then is working fine to cycle the sources.
And i think a setting which is quite useful for me is "Multiple music app" which will show current playing app info in that widget area
