Multimedia Messages Won't Download - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Hey Guys,
I've been having trouble downloading multimedia messages on my phone. It just sits "downloading" and does nothing. I have one right now that is all of 1kb in size but won't finish. Is this a known thing? I've had trouble with this for what feels like the start of having this phone. It might have something to do with group messaging as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm using the stock messaging app as well.

For me, that problem arises when I have mobile data turned off.
To fix it, turn data on. The file will download then you can turn data back off.
Seems like a hassle but it is the only thing that works for me.

I had the same problem when connected to my network extender. I switched to Verizon Messaging and it fixed the problem. The guy at the Verizon store told me their app can use wifi to send messages and I guess the Samsung app won't. He must be correct because I haven't had a problem since I switched.

So it's probably the stock samsung texting app? That blows if that's the case.

Would be helpful if you could share what ROM, modem etc. you're using.
Ideas? Google Voice. It's free and offers a much richer messaging experience over carrier-based voicemail systems. It transcribes viocemails and you can read and/or listen to them on the phone, from a PC etc.

What I've seen fix that in the past is leave yourself a voicemail... let it go to your phone... then delete it again.... also another note.... i always hit the * button to hang up.... not sure if that will work but it has for me in the past with other phones....
it most likely has nothing to do with your phone and everything to do without your service provider. the voicwmail server is incorrectly sending your phone the "new voicemail" signal. I had this same problem on my old blackjack 2 for the longest time. if it bothers you enough, try calling your service provider and get them to fix it.
Sent from a phone, playing a phone, disguised as another phone.
Just call AT&T and ask them to reset the voicemail and missed calls notification.
This happens to me soo often...

This fix has worked for me numerous times in the past.

Sorry to jump in on the OP thread but I have the same problem. On cognition was setting up google voice but I guess I had a voicemail sneak thru the system during the setup. I have tried switching back to my carrier voicemail leaving a message but it does not delete it. I am surprised there is not a service that cannot be force stop to remove it versus calling provider.
Thanks

[Q] ICS MMS issue

I haven't seen this posted before, so here I go...
I'm not sure other people have this but whenever I get a picture message, the phone interprets it as a 10 seconds video message. The first five seconds are just blank white, and after that it shows the picture in an area of around 100x100 pixels at the top for the last 5 seconds. And this doesn't happen to all messages, but most of them(Even from the same sender). Really weird. Anyone have the same problem? Know of a fix?
Which rom are you using? some dev's post fixes for things like that with the rom download files.
This happens to me whenever someone using an iPhone sends me an MMS with multiple attachments. Is that what's going on with you too?
Exactly, but to me it happen even if its one message only.

I can confirm this issue. For me, MMS barely works at all without some workarounds. I believe it's because we're on Wind in Canada. The development is 100% geared towards the T-Mobile G2X, and there's gotta be some file in the phone somewhere that makes this happen on the Wind Network.
I've posted about this before, never found an answer. I dug around in the /system folders and files but nothing really peaked my interest as being the cause of the problem.
For now I've corrected this issue, as well as sending/receiving issue by doing the following:
Every time I receive an MMS, before I download this MMS, I navigate into system->More->Mobile Networks->APNs, then just tap the "Wind CA" APN, and without editing, back out. This will cut off your internet from working and allow the MMS to download properly. Then once that's done to get internet back up again you have to go back into the APNs and reset to defaults.
Pain in the butt if you ask me.

[Q] Goodness ROM Issues w/VZW GS3

Hi,
I installed Goodness Reborn v10.0.4.1 (latest version) two night ago and for the most part, all is well except for two things. The first is that I am not able to send or receive file attachments using the built-in Messaging program. I can send/receive text but no attachments. I downloaded another text program from the Google Store for the time being and this one works just fine. I just would rather use the one that came with the ROM. My second issue, if you can call it an issue is that when I receive a call, the flashlight flashes. This is most likely a setting but I can't locate where to turn it off.
I have the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3. Can anyone help me with these issues? It would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Bruce

Can't help you with the messaging app, I use the AOSP messaging app with goodness and it works fine. But I never noticed an issue with the stock one either.
The flash blinking with phone calls is related to the app flash blink. Open goodness settings then open flash blink, go into the preferences tab and turn off the incoming calls.

Goodness Flashlight Issue
Hi,
Thanks for the info about the flashlight issue. It's now fixed. I must have clicked the wrong switch when I was messing with the settings. The messaging issue is really no big deal. I'll just stick with Go SMS for now. It works fine for me.
I appreciate you're quick response to my post. Have a good weekend.

[Q] Delayed push notifications - anyone else having this issue?

I previously had a Samsung Galaxy S3 that ran Android 4.1.2. Push notifications would come through pretty much instantly.
Now that I have my Nexus 5, I'm noticing that push notificiations are delayed. For example, I might receive an email on my PC saying that someone has posted on my Facebook timeline, but a notification doesn't pop up on my phone for 10-15 minutes later. Sometimes I get no notifications for a while because they're delayed, then the notification sound on my phone will go off 3 or 4 times in a row as a bunch of notifications from different apps have all arrived at once.
Also, sometimes I got no notification at all. For instance, I sold an item on eBay and usually I would get a notification that it has sold. On this particular occasion, no notification appeared. The same has happened with Facebook. Sometimes I will go to Facebook and find that a friend has written on my timeline, yet I didn't receive a notification about it on the phone.
I Googled this issue and found it was a problem that plagued the Nexus 4, so I'm wondering if it also affects the Nexus 5 too. Does anyone else have this issue with the Nexus 5? Is there any fix for it?
I get this too, but not very often. Most of the time I find my phone gets notifications before my PC or other phone does. But there are occasions, particularly when I'm not on WiFi, when I either get delayed notifications, or I won't get them at all, until I reconnect to WiFi.
It's been happening to me, including when I was running totally stock w/ locked bootloader. I'm on Sprint. Not sure if it's a data issue or phone issue.
Turning off wifi optimization solved my delayed corporate email (outlook) notification.
Thanks for the replies.
I'm having this issue while connected to Wi-Fi, although I haven't tested to see if the issue occurs via my mobile network as well. I have tried 2 factory resets, but that didn't fix it.
It's almost like, when the screen is off and the phone sleeps, it loses the ability to receive push notifications, but then after a while it suddenly regains it and that causes a bunch of notifications to arrive at once.
I've contacted Google support about it, so I'll see what they say.

Any update on this? What did they say? I have the same problem and it's driving me crazy.. I came from GS3 and notifications were instantaneous... on this one I have to open lets say Whatsapp every other minute to check if someone sent me a message... and even sometimes I open the app and it takes some time for the internet to "wake up" and finally refresh the app... it sucks... I would return my phone if this can't be fixed easily..
So any update or solution on this would be gratly appreciated. Thanks

Google ended up offering me a replacement phone, but that didn't go too well. The new phone they sent wouldn't connect to my Wi-Fi network, so I contacted them to return it but they told me I had to return my original phone, get another replacement, and only then could I return the second one. Obviously, each time they sent out a phone they were putting holds on my credit card for £xxx so in the end I phoned up and complained. To cut a long story short, I still have the original phone and I haven't decided what to do yet.

Interesting, I have just turned this off on mine too to see.
I only get delays when I am connected to my home wifi (2.4 or 5GHz). Maybe it is because I only have a 4mb ADSL connection ...
I will check tonight if that fixes it and/or also try the PNF app.
any update or fix on this yet? this is driving me mad, every time I get a notification on twitter or my email my idol picks it up first and my phone gets it 8-9 minutes later even if I'm using it at that moment, anybody else get the delay even while using the device?
All of a sudden I have started facing this problem since the past few days

I am using Moto g and I think its an issue with KitKat rather than with the hardware or the network. My push notifications are being delayed and that wasnt the case with JB 4.2 on my earlier phones.
Very frustrating
I've not been getting google hangouts messages until 20-30 mins later. sometimes i never get a notification, but if i check hangouts i see a new message. Another times i only get the message on the computer, but never on the phone. if i go and clear the app data new messages show up
My push notifications were coming through very quickly up until 2 weeks ago. I have not changed devices, carriers, or installed any new apps. One day they were coming through fine, now they are delayed by up to 30 minutes. My phone has not installed any OS updates either.
I have factory reset my phone, once restoring from cloud, the other not restoring at all and setting up the phone from scratch. This is really irritating. It does it on mobile networks or wifi.
Moto G is frustrating
It's frustrating.
I searched google without obtaining a solution. Moto G and sometimes I get delayed notifications and not others.
Facebook does not even make the notifications. In Whatsapp I have to open it every 2 minutes to see if someone has written. What not to do. I'm bored with this phone.
No solution or google and motorola solve it. Cursed kitkat!
Anything new? This problem is old and comes from the Nexus 4. I really am very sad about it, not PNF solving this.
I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. It definitely started after i upgraded my s2 to kitkat rom back in december. At first i thought it had to do with the PM sleep modes but none of them make a bit of difference. Ive goggled it to death and this thread is the only one ive found.
Currently im going to try the suggestion on the first page to turn off wifi optimization as my phone only does this on wifi. when i use mobile data everything works as expected
EDIT: WIFI optimization makes no difference
Push Notifications
I have faced this problem on both my S4 and S5 on sprint. I think it has to do with sprint closing open tcp connections prematurely, which causes push notifications to fail.
Running the app Root-Push Notifications Fixer, or Unrooted version has worked for me. The root version seems to be more reliable.

[Q] gs3 - can't send texts - CyanogenMOD 11 KitKat

Hey guys,
This is my first post, and I would greatly appreciate some help. I'm clearly quite a rookie at this. But I rooted my Verizon gs3 quite some time ago, and everything has run smoothly since. I did use it while in the UK on GiffGaff Mobile, and still worked fine. Now I am using Simple Mobile.
Just today, I installed the CyanogenMod 11 KitKat. I am able to send & receive MMS. And I can receive SMS, but I cannot send SMS.
I have tried changing the SMSC number using the dialer, but it keeps reverting back to "+12063130004",145 . I have also tried using different SMSC codes using the GoSMS app. I've played around with the APNs as well, but from the little that I know about this, this only has to do with MMS not SMS, correct?
Don't know what else to do, and I can't find any threads that have helped me yet.
PLEASE help, and I would greatly appreciate it.

If you toggle airplane mode or reboot the phone can you send an SMS? I haven't played with my phone at all lately but suddenly similar symptoms have manifested. I can send 1 SMS every time I reboot, but then it stops sending SMS after that one. Is this true with you? I haven't found a fix yet, but I'm trying to flush out the problem completely.

I figured it out!! Finally! I had the same issue - I was able to send one message, then suddenly nothing. Do you have Google Voice+ ?? If so, try disabling it. You cannot disable it through the Settings>Apps - you actually have to go into the App then and select disable.

So what do you mean by go into the app? if I press menu> manage apps, and then under the tab "All" at the bottom there is a "Voice+". I'm on CM10.2 and it appears that the "Voice+" is part of CM. If I open my app drawer and scroll down there is no app called Voice+.
There is Voice Dialer and Voice Search, but nothing else in the app drawer with a similar name. If I'm not going down the correct path please let me know. Thank you.

Hmm, that's odd that its not showing up in the app drawer. It should be. Do you use Google Voice at all? On my phone, the option to disable or uninstall is blocked when I go into Settings>Apps. But if you don't use the app and your phone allows you to, maybe try disabling and/or uninstalling from there?? Let me know, and I'll keep looking.

So, I have the option to force stop it. (no change in results).
I've even downloaded the "Google Voice" app, which added the "Voice+" app, opened it, confirmed that it was on disable and still no change.
I have no idea why this problem started this morning since I don't believe I am any changes to my phone the past couple days... I really don't know what information I can provide to help troubleshoot it...
I'm having the same exact problem starting this morning. I can send exactly one message and then I have to reboot or turn airplane mode on/off to send another. Everything was working perfectly fine yesterday, though. I've tried deleting my phone's cache in the recovery menu but it hasn't helped.

Carrier: Verizon. I was initially on CM 10.2 but both rolled back to CM 10.1 and upgraded to CM 11 to see if any of those fixed the problem. Neither did and I reluctantly (for now at least) went back to stock and unrooted my phone. Texting is working fine but I absolutely hate TouchWiz. I have no idea what could have caused the issue and, like you, I didn't make any changes at all before it happened. It literally appeared out of the blue.

OK this really does seem to work for me as a temp workaround...it sticks through reboots and all. Go to the dialer and enter the trusty old *#*#4636#*#* then go to phone settings and change preferred network type to CDMA only then back out and reboot.
It kinda sucks cause it's slow on the go, but at least I can send texts reliably. I have WiFi most places I am anyway.
If anyone figures out a real long term fix please post!!!

Some people don't have voice+ and the solution you used isn't an option for them.
For those of us less fortunate than you, It seems you can fix the problem by loading a TW ROM and flashing the MB1 firmware. Then you can return to CM
I had XVoice+ for Exposed on my SGS4, it stopped me from sending texts. It was ok when i uninstalled it. I hope that might help.
