I am basically a noob when it comes to building/compiling. I basically want to know if it would be possible to create an OS for my phone based on AOSP without too much work.
Total noob idea; maybe combining a zip from a custom rom/ normal firmware, and the AOSP code?

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
We cannot provide technical support nor can other members reply to your posts here on XDA Assist and since you forgot to mention which device you have in mind, I can't point you towards a device-specific area. That said, there are some thread such as the one at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483143 that night be good starting places for your quest, as well as several articles in our "XDA University" at http://xda-university.com such as the guide at http://xda-university.com/as-a-developer/porting-aosp-roms-using-source-code. Not all data there is always up-to-date but it covers a wealth of information in one convenient place.
Good luck!
Sorry, I was thinking of doing so for my Samsung galaxy xcover 2
I was also considering creating a rom based on the source code if this sould help in directing me?

Hello again.
There is no forum specifically for the Samsung Galaxy XCover 2 GT S 7710 at this time but if the links provided earlier are not sufficient, you may want to ask your question with all relevant details in the friendly general Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help. Since your device is relatively uncommon, please be patient and give the experts plenty of time to respond.
Once again, good luck!

Hi there,
Your member state is "Senior" and you know how/where to search on XDA and I think it was much easier for you if you post this question in the specific area of Samsung S4.
Here: XDA Developers > Samsung Galaxy S 4 i9500, i9505, i9505G, i9506 > Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
The mission of XDA Assist is to provide basic help to those who have tried searching but can't find what they are looking for and need assistance. This is not a "helpdesk" providing technical assistance but more to point you in the correct direction with your problem. Perhaps you can't find posts on how to root your phone, install custom recovery or maybe you have questions about how to navigate and use features on the site.
Our XDA Assist team will give you links to threads/forums that are relevant to your problem. You may be pointed towards guides and instructions that can be quite complex, so you will still need to read carefully and be cautious before attempting to make software changes to your device. It is essential you are in the correct forum for your device model; what works for one can ruin another.

I'll close this thread and please ask in the proper forum/area.
Thanks for understanding

I flashed my alcatel 4030d. Unfortunately most likely the modem and the radio for the custom rom is not tailored for my region. Therefore I must restore the old modem.img in order to have 3g. However I don't know how to flash the stock rom modem.img. Any advice?
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Unfortunately it looks as though you've gone against the great advice you were given by one of my experienced colleagues in this thread, and now you're stuck in a situation where you may not be able to recover fully. I'm not sure why you'd do that, you came to XDA Assist looking for the advice of experts, and you were warned about what might happen.
There is no dedicated device section for this phone so coming across the stock modem is going to be difficult to say the least. I'd suggest you do your darndest to search for what you need, but your chances are pretty slim. You could always ask your question in the general q&a section if your searching doesn't prove to be fruitful.
Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Please also note that XDA Assist is not a general helpdesk area, please ask any future question you may have about this device in the above q&a section I've linked you to.
Good luck!
Hi,
I have flashed custom ROMs on my HTC Desire, my HTC One, Samsung Galaxy ACE, ... But all of them had plenty of resources... I've got this tablet (it came free with a TV) and I can't find any info on it anywhere.
It's extremely sluggish and bloated (there's three system browsers - Android Browser, Chrome and Opera ) so I was thinking I'd find a vanilla ROM or a better ROM, but I can't find any info and I don't know how I would go about flashing since I can't find a ROM designed for this particular device, nor can I find a recovery for this specific device. Since there's no subforum for this device, I've come here to ask where to ask this question first and hopefully eventually get to an answer...

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
We cannot provide technical support nor can other members reply to your posts here on XDA Assist and as you have discovered, there is no forum specifically for the Quadro T-D7048BV at this time. However, you may want to ask your question with all relevant details in the friendly general Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help. That's a good place to start where members familiar with your device might be able to advise you. Thank you Mike, I'll post there.

Firstly, happy new year to everyone c:
As the title says, I'm considering making my own ROM for the SM-G731F.
I've lurked around XDA for quite a while now and I can't seem to find a guide that's able to clarify the process for me.
So I decided to make a post here,
The ROM I want to make should be something as close to AOSP as possible (for what I've seen, no Cyanogen or ROMs alike are available, so..), but my programming skills are lacking.
Even with guides about building or porting ROMs I haven't yet figured out where to start.
So here come a few questions:
1. Can I build a AOSP ROM for my Samsung device (AFAIK I need some base ROM right?)
2. Assuming that porting is not an option, is building a ROM from scratch a viable way to do this? (Even though my programming skills are close to none I've had some experience with C and I'm willing to put in the effort)
3. What will be the main challenges to this?
Cheers,

Thanks for your reply @The_Merovingian,
I haven't even thought of that (I know, I know), anyway, thanks for the tip.
Guess I'll have much to keep me occupied
I'll see what I can find then, cheers
Hi everyone!
I'm new to this forum and would be willing to contribute in whichever way I can. But what brought me here: I just purchased a Celkon Q519+ during my recent trip to India. Unfortunately, now I am experiencing the dreadful battery life and stuck with a phone which I think could have been a very good everyday mobile if only the OS/GUI and software was well adapted/updated...
Could anyone provide me some pointers as to how to get a compatible Cyanogenmod for my phone. If this is not available, I would be more than happy to lend a helping hand in porting an existing ROM to the Celkon model.
My hearty thanks to all - especially to anyone providing valuable directions/insights.

Hi
Thanks for using XDA Assist.
I can't find any information on xda about your device. There are threads about other Celkon models but not Q519. Try posting your query in Android Q&A,Help and Troubleshooting or in the friendly Q&A thread here->[Ask Any Question][Newbie Friendly].
It might be easier to find a way of rooting it and deleting some bloatware.
Good luck
