app not working due adblock. Workaround without deleting Adblock?? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I finally rooted my android phone and installed Adfree. Works like a charm. But a couple of apps aren't working anymore because they detect Adfree and just shut down..
Is there a way to trick those apps? I don't want to delete my adblocker just for those couple of apps, but then again, I also would like to use them too..
Any advice or sollution?
Thanks

To install amy other add blocker.
Can you tell me the names of these apps which do not work with adfree

It's just an unofficial app. Not from appstore.

Auto App Organizer

Auto App Organizer free is by far the best app of it's kind on the market. I am not the developer, but I thought this was worth sharing. It's easy to use and works flawlessly! Here is the link to the market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.utility.autoapporganizer&feature=search_result
All of the credit goes to ZeroTouchSystems for making this app.
I'm using it since a year now. The most useful feature is backup categorization. Uninstalled apps appears on folders and could be run from backup just in a while and in the meantime you have a clean system uninstalling apps used only once in a while

Enabling data of just one app?

Is there any particular app which helps in monitoring data usage? I mean, I have loads of apps installed. But I just want Watsaap. I don't want other apps to use data. Is Thr any app which helps to enable just one app to use data? Do help me out!!!

If you are rooted you can get LBE from google play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lbe.security.lite&feature=search_result#?t=W10. You can pick and choose which apps can access data, GPS and almost all permissions you want for each single app seperately. Even allows you to monitor all data usage and much more. Play around with it. Best part is....IT'S FREE!

Adblocker/adaway

Any one know if any of the previous ad blockers will eventually work on 4.4. Just tried the latest version of adaway and I'm receiving an error. Just wondering if these apps will be supported any more. I read somewhere Google was cracking down on adblockers. But God knows I hate seeing ads in apps that don't offer a paid version that's ad free. Thanks.
Don't know if this is supposed to be in Q&A. Thought if there was an apk out there that worked it could be placed here.

i tried adaway and works fine for me... first time got an error while applying hosts file, but I tried it again and it worked.
This one worked just fine for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753
No errors at all.
Thanks. Seems like I had a bad download. This worked for me too.

Yep had the same problem and it said it wasn't applied but it was blocking ads so no complaints.

Adblock plus. No problem.
Not working here
Adblock also not working on my Nexus 5. So far I've tried adaway and adfree and I can still see ads in chrome. Gained root using cf-auto-root.
Just succeeded in applying the host file.
Have tried before and failed, so I had given up.
But gave it a try more, and now it works.
Here's how you get it working:
1. Start the app and give root access, download and apply hosts file, this will fail.
2. Exit the app, force close it, erase data.
3. Open the app and run it again.
4. Profit.

The thing is that both adfree and adaway manage to update the host file correctly (checked it myself), but I still get ads in chrome even after rebooting and clearing browser cache. Anyone else has this issue?

Can you post a link to a site where you have ads? I'm using Adblock Plus for Android and would like to see if it's working. I'm assuming it is but would like to test to make sure.

I'm seeing ads on this page too so i guess Adblock Plus isn't working either. Perhaps the apps just need updates to work with Kitkat or maybe Google have found a way to stop the blockers from working somehow? I've only tried on Chrome so far as it seems to be the only Browser that's working properly on our phones.
Adaway works for me, sometimes doesn't enable hosts on the first try but just keep trying

You have no busybox installed!!!
those programs may need that to do a proper job
I am using adaway and it seems to be blocking fine. Just tried it on this page and it looks clean.

For anyone seeing ads on Chrome, that's because you are using Google's Data Compression Proxy.
You can disable it by going to "Settings -> Bandwidth management -> Reduce data usage" and turning it off.

AdAway app not working

Alright, the majority of us here on xda are root users, and I'm sure we all use or have used AdAway to remove ads from our apps. Well lately AdAway hasn't been working for me at all. I go in to it, grant root, download and apply, reboot, then whenever I open up an app to test it, there are ads everywhere! Is anyone else experiencing this?

I use crossbreader that blocks most ads internally, but I know adaway works by using host sources to apply patches. It's possible some of the initial lists included with the download are down. What I would do is use Google and try to find additional sources, and add those paths to the settings. That might improve it.

I use AdAway with the Hosts list from this thread as well as MinMinGuard Xposed module. Very good results. I can confirm AdAway is still working for me, just updated/applied my hosts lists through the app.

I would like to use Greenify app on my non rooted Moto G and want Greenify some system apps (such as G+, Drive, Play Books etc.) but I am not able to Greenify any system apps.
All I can do is Greenify only those apps installed by me.
How to Greenify system apps without root, as I dont want to root at any cost.

If You don't used them just disable them. There isn't much more you can do, without root.

Yes you can greenify all unwanted system apps like maps and YouTube or any other, For that you have to buy greenify donation pack and only after that you can enable experiment feature and after that you can greenify them......

But without root will work?
I mean the donation package, will it work without root? In its description in play store it says its for root only.
If you or anyone is using it without root please let me know.

You need root for any app installed in /system/app and /system/priv-app. That applies even if you download updates for such an app.
Greenify w/o root is not very effective, it actually needs xposed module to work properly for system apps.
The paid version needs root too.
Without root, you can only hibernate apps installed by yourself and that's about it.

It greenify system app....
