Hey all,
I had already ordered a Black Sapphire 32 GB version but I'm still in a state of confusion with N6 and S6. The battery backup and less Dev support is a bit of concern for me.
Moreover I had come across some RAM Management issues on S6.

I've had the nexus 6, it has really bad battery life and problem with the speakers crackling when the battery goes down under 50% (this happens for all nexus 6 even if you buy a new one) So I suggest you NOT to buy the nexus 6.
Come on. Another thread discussing this topic??Aren't there enough of them?

I have both phones and i love both... Nexus 6 have a lot of developments and the battery life is pretty good I have 6-7 hours obviously with a good configuration and custom kernel, s6 are like 8 roms tw based, no cm or aosp for now but de roms go pretty well... S6 I use xtrestolite 2.3 and my n6 have preview 3 jdk rom. Both phone are the best... You have to choose.

With custom rom y have 6-7 hours SOT.
I think that S6 is way better than nexus 6 in general
For me nexus 6 is way toooo big and it hasn't very good screen (at least for me)
If you are not going to root and flash custom roms then S6 is the best bet. But I think you could have waited nexus 2015 which is going to come soon.

If you use it on WiFi or low brightness and using it straight from 100-0. Else you will see 3-6 hour SOT on daily usage if rooted on custom Rom and kernel.
I just wanted to add my opinion on this question. The Samsung gal ax s6 edge is still the best phone on the market. The only advantage the nexus 6 has over the s6 is the software has more dev support and is guaranteed to get official updates for much longer.

After having 2 nexus devices I'm kind of rooted/rom'd out and want to enjoy the stock experience. I'm having trouble choosing between the Moto X and the Nexus 5. Is there no reason in getting the nexus 5 being that I'm not interested in rooting it?
The Nexus 5 looks to be a very good phone even stock and at a cheaper price that the Moto X. You can also still root and still use the stock rom.
won't really matter if you root or not. it's your choice. you can still get the n5 even if you don't plan on rooting it. i've done full stock for several nexus units already and they all work pretty well for me. i still get the occasional itch though.
I am watching this phone although I chose the Moto X. LG G2 has some issues ala microphone. Recording , speaker phone to name a few. This is basically a lg g2 with a lesser camera so. I want to see what's up in the first 6 months.
I have a Nexus 4 and used to rum cm10.2 but it was so unstable and never quite ran well. As of 2 months ago i reverted back to stock rom bootloader locked and it was th best thing ive done. The phone runs so much more stable and smoother and im also getting better battery life. It also seems quicker.
For me it was a waste of time rooting when the stock experience it what i think better.
When i get my Nexus 5 its staying stock
Cool to see I won't be the only one.

I was using stock 4.3 on my N4 before going to the Samsung S4.. I honestly miss stock on my S4, TouchWiz is terrible. I'd at least root the device though, for privileges!

Exactly! I plan on on rooting it (privileges and apps) but staying on stock and not flashing.

I was running stock rooted on my N4 for a while but ultimately ended up throwing PA on there. There are some nice features that I miss in stock... quick settings pulldown with one finger, single tap to toggle wifi/bluetooth, etc... I'm sure i'll end up doing the same with my 5 if I decide to buy it.

I would go nexus 5. moto x is already several months old and support on the device will not last like it will for n5. Additionally if you decide to root down the road when support stops (for either device) the n5 will still have developer support.
I'll likely root it but stay stock. I'll probably also run Ubuntu Touch on it from time to time

I can answer your question with another question:
Are you interested in running latest Android version and getting latest updates first? As well as being able to get updates 2 years from now if you still have the device.
Would like pentaband 3G and LTE on your device?
A device with better camera, higher screen resolution, better specification making it more future proof than the Moto X, all this while being cheaper and required no contract?

Here you go, ads blocking without root: https://adblockplus.org/en/android
It might cause some app to not work though.
Stock 4.4 rom and Franco kernel will be a heavenly combo, best you`ll ever get and also with color- and soundcontrol :good: AdAaway will get rid of those annoying ads.
To your original question, the Nexus 5 would be the better choice.
1) Cheaper price.
2) Immediate / first OTA updates.
3) Better screen resolution - 1080p vs 720p
4) Processor - snapdragon 800 vs snapdragon S4 Pro.
Honestly I can't think of one thing the Moto X has over the Nexus 5. You want stock? Why not stock 4.4? What about any new Android releases? Gotta get a ported AOSP version if you want it right away...
Nexus 5 should be the best stock device of all time, no bloatware, faster updates etc.
Everything above is the reason I want the Nexus 5. Beside the fact that its minimally beautiful. I do have Verizon but my Nexus 4 on Aio. Verizon does have the best service for my location and the only working service at my home.
I truly believe that the moto x will receive fairly quick updates. Do I think they will be available the same day google releases an update.....no, very soon thereafter, yes. :good:
Now, which is the better device, the moto x or the Nexus 5, Nexus 5. The only reason I would say buy the moto x over the Nexus 5 is because you want a smaller form factor, which some people prefer.
I had the nexus 4 for awhile and switched over to the iphone 5 once it did 3g on my carrier. I played with almost all higher end android phones rooting/ custom roms and was really always wanting more. I believe I went through probably 15-20 phones selling and trading . Grew very tired of it!!! I've had the iphone 5 for the past 6-7 months purchased from apple and I am happy with it. Nexus 5 I am looking to purchase but most likely wont be tinkering with roms or anything, I hope not.
Wife will get the iphone 5 , which has apple warranty on it and Ill probably sell her iphone 4s unlocked with a mophie case for $300 or so. So hopefully Ill enjoy the nexus 5 and the android os again.
So I decided as soon as it went live today....I ordered the Nexus 5. Super excited. Hopefully won't be disappointed.
Hello guys,
I've been searching recently to decide which phone will be my next phone in 2 months. The parameters for me to decide are, I keep the phone at least few years like my current SGS2 phone and I need it to stay above average. I know I may see better for next 6 months or so but I want to decide in this period. Money is not a factor.
I've been reading about new Knox for SGS5 and every poll in other websites I've read was saying they are not going to buy or they are not interested and disappointed!
I also read about another Galaxy S 5 named F series or Galaxy Prime! It's the same as Galaxy S 5 but with better specs and metal unibody!
I stuck to choose between these:
Google Nexus 5 (32gb, LTE)
Samsung Galaxy S5 (prefer 32gb but if it's available till then, LTE)
Samsung Galaxy S4 (I9505 LTE)
I also created a poll for the ones who are lazy to answer.
Any response, opinions are welcomed.:good:
Thank you.
EDIT:
I prefer removable battery because in my country any official repair center has no meaning and they are all in one that asks money for their services. So in few years period I need atleast one new battery as my previous experiences. And having removable battery is a factor. And having an SD card is but with 32gb version that would not be a huge problem but I prefer having removable battery and SD card slot.
I heard about nexus 5 battery life that as its best it would be average. Having a good battery life could be a factor too.

Also since you haven't really mentioned any real requirements, I'd suggest going for the new HTC One or the Xperia Z2.

I added a few ones now. I don't need all those new gimmicks that new galaxy series are providing but having them is not a bad idea! Also I prefer to feel the phone in my hands comfortably and I don't care about it's unibody or the quality of the body!

Previously I thought who would get Note series with those huge lcds! But now all the new phones have 5" lcd so they all are phablets IMO.
I really don't know about Note series you just add an extra option for me. Yeah the leather back is awesome even the features that S-pen brought if you don't consider the extra bucks for it but I don't need all those feature. I think I would stay with my current choices and won't add note to those.
Thanks for your suggestion I really appreciate it.
LG G2 is a good device. Take a look on it. Very good battery life camera processor and screen .... but it doesn't have a removable battery :/
I would suggest the S5 as it has:
+ removable battery, which is IMHO very important
+ sdcard slot, so no real need for 32gb version
+ water resistance (ip67, half an hour under water)
+ hardware buttons
+ an IR-blaster
Regards!

Thank you for your suggestion. I was exactly looking at this phone on gsmarena right now! It has a good specs but I don't know why I don't like the way it looks! It's way too simple! It almost has the same hardware as SGS5. According to gsmarena G2 has only better battery life in idle! But we can't be sure with an unreleased phone!
It also don't have SD card slot.
If I'm going to add another option to my choices I would go with Sony Xperia Z2! I just love the way it looks and it also don't have removable battery and even SD card slot. lol
But anyways thanks for your suggestion I really appreciate it.:good:

The only things that makes me to stay away from this phone are the Knox thing and many uninterested people according to some of polls on which websites I've read, it makes it less popular and for us on xda that we all use custom roms, this would be a potential issue!
And another thing is the release date on April 11th and LTE version on release date. I want to buy it off-contract.

IMHO it depends on what sort of software you want to end up running. I love AOSP, so I'm planning to get Nexus 5. It's intended to run AOSP, so support, drivers and development will be awesome On the other hand, if you like running AOSP but buy a closed source (e.g. Exynos Samsung) then you're going to be compromised from the start. I see from your signature that you're on Slim atm, maybe keep that in mind if you plan on switching to AOSP.
I do like the look of the new HTC One though. :silly:
Edit: and, it is SD card expandable. No removable battery though.
And you posted this to I9100 Q&A why exactly ? Just because you currently have one is no reason at all, this thread belongs in one of the general chit chat forums, not a device specific one. I'm tipping mods move this.

I've never tried to choose my phone from software view! The only thing that matters for me is ability to root your phone. Cause I'm end up doing it anyway. The software is important too because of development, and new Knox thing for S5 makes it even harder except the fact that it's closed source. But afaik it has snapdragon 801 and they are not closed source, aren't they?
On the other hand reviews on Nexus 5 battery life worries me. Cause they said it would do average as its best and it's not a removable battery. I won't expand the battery but with my usage I end up with f*cked up battery and it needs to be replaced in first two years of use! Having or not having SD card is not a big factor with 32gb nand for me.
It's getting worse to decide a phone.
And looking at Sony Xperia Z2, I stuck between S5 and Z2. Buy with aosp and development of Nexus 5 software, I really don't know which one to get.

I would suggest going with a device that has "enthusiastic" developer's who unlike our poor devs doesn't have to deal with lots of proprietary headache, accordingly my most logical advice would be the Nexus 5, but again its not the high end configuration that attracts me its the dev support and update frequencies so if it was me I would still be happy with the poor mans Nexus ie. the beautiful Moto G, and if I had money to waste I would look at the Google Play Edition HTC One (M8).

Yeah exactly. The only thing attracts me to Nexus 5 is this. It's even easier and cheaper for me to buy Nexus rather than other phones that I'm planning on. But the fact that I need to hold on to this phone in next few years scares me the most! Maybe buying Nexus 5 now and see for consumer advice and reviews after releasing S5 in few months then change my phone again? It would be possible but money wise I don't think so.
I don't like HTC phones in rooting matter. Two of my friends had HTC and after rooting they hard bricked their phone!
I was hoping for S5 google edition? Fingers crossed.

Root isn't everything... unless you want to be stuck with stock ROM and Xposed for the life of the phone, something I couldn't do. I want custom ROMs and especially kernels for my phone, the more the better. What if it's bootloader locked and not un-lockable? No custom kernel for you then. Have you had a look at the N5 forums on xda? More roms/kernels/mods than you can imagine

You are making me to go for Nexus 5 but my heart says go for your true love which is S5.
I think I would wait until the S5 release date and see some actual reviews then decide. If I had a chance to be able to buy another phone in one year period, I'm saying this because if you buy new phone and sell it a week after the price would drop and in my opinion it's a real waste of money, I would definitely buy Nexus 5 then go for S5! Yeah in matter of development no other phone can even compare to N5!
I'm now really stuck between N5 and S5! I know the price is half of S5 but I really don't know! I like the new features in S5 specially the Camera and Ultra Power saving mode. But with Knox I don't know if any custom roms would be available even two months after release!
May I ask why you wouldn't go back to samsung? Just being curious.
I want to tell my friend in US to buy me a 32gb version with LTE for N5 and the same would be happen with S5! And I can see her approximately in next month! So till then I have a chance to see the S5 being released! But right now I'm feeling end up buying N5. lol :victory:

Most of the replies on this forum will favor the Nexus 5 for obvious reasons With that said, the N5 is a great bang for your buck, especially if you are unable to get the S5. And the development community is very strong
Just BUY IT!
As you like Samsung as you said, you will miss some specific features you will not find on the N5. Me personaly i like vanilla android better then TW and don`t miss a thing. But maybe something to consider when you buy a phone..
Buy the phone that helps you read sticky threads at the top of boards. Big plus if it prevents you from putting questions in the general section.

Asking here is pointless, as already said. Obviously we're biased. Lol
Just read about each in their forum sections and on the web....and decide.
If you want tonnes of development... N5 is the clear choice. If you don't care, get what suits your needs best.

The OnePlus One is essentially a Nexus 5.5, apart from the factory OS. It's every bit as easy to root and flash custom ROMs and kernels, if that's what you're in to. If not, CM11S/12S is an improvement on AOSP Android.
That aside, the OPO is a superior device in every way. Better camera, faster processor and GPU, more RAM, and a much longer lasting battery. The main complaints people have had with the Nexus 5 was the mediocre camera and disappointing battery life.
The question is how big of a phone do you want? The OnePlus One is big, the Nexus 5 is relatively compact. If you prefer something more compact, may I suggest an LG G2 instead of the Nexus 5. Same processor, practically the same dimensions, but a bigger screen, much better camera, and far better battery.
Also, remember that the OnePlus Two is soon to be released, and also later this year a new Nexus 5 made by LG. You might want to wait if you're not in desperate need of a new phone.

Basically, I want it for my personal use and also one more purpose "GAMING".
OnePlus One. I am personally using nexus 5. And I don't want to give it up. But One+ is the future.

Well, OK. I think, for that reason, the 1+1 is a little bit better.
Please note, that both phones have no changable battery/MicroSD
I recommend the 1+1 with 64 GB.
Hi everyone.
Excuse my excitement. Should be getting my GS6 in a week. Was looking for stock CM. Was surprised to find there isn't one. The GS5 had one.
Is this Samsung's doing?
Thanks!!

It's all Samsung's doing, bro. :good:
Samsung never fully released the complete source code of their proprietary Exyenos cpu's, which are damn good btw, unlike Qualcomm with their Snapdragons, which are open-sourced and the same you had in your S5 (which had CM)
The S6 took the honour of being the most powerful phone of 2015! Highly subjective, I know, but true according to a lot of benchmarking sites on the net.
CM ain't all that either imo. Much prefer all the features of Samsung stock rom over CM anyway. Promised myself I'd stay away from Exyenos cpu's (since I got S4 with one & CM sucked on it) but couldn't resist the temptation of getting S6 since the prices had fallen now big time. The hardware is A for Away!
Take the S6 bro - it's a good device & don't stress about CM. Apparently there are some development for S6 ongoing, but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I was you. It won't ever be perfect. Ever.

Why ? The S6 is one of the best phones ever made , i just bought one 3 weeks ago and i already forgot "root" and "custom roms". Samsung have my respect now , they did an awesome job.

Because the 6p has almost as many issues as the note7 at this point? That's the worst recommendation for a device trade in overall.
To be honest I'm very interested to see where OnePlus, HTC, LG & Moto will be taking their devices with the next roll out.
