I don't get 5 bars of signal - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I never get 5 bars of signal? I only get 4. I am running a custom rom called xtrestolite. I have done a factory reset and I have changed my network option to the highest. And ideas

The Odex version will give you 5 bars. Deodex is only 4 bars.

Flash both and check it out.
The F/I based firmware only have 4 bars. Others have 5 bars. You can change to 5 or 6 bars with the Alliance Framework.
Sent from my SM-G925F

But it won't limit my speed if I have 4 bars right?
Sent from my SM-G920W8 using XDA Free mobile app

Nope. You shouldn't go off the bars anyway cause they are not the same from manufacturer to manufacturer. The dBm value is what accurately indicates how strong the signal is.

Network mode problems after cm10 and sim switch

I'm using an infuse 4g with JB 4.2.1 cm ROM. I unlocked my phone and put in a T-Mobile prepaid sim.
I'm supposed to have 4g consistently but I'm getting 2g(edge), 3g(umts) and on very rare occasions I get 3g(HSDPA)... Its approximately 70%-%20-%10, respectively. And these changes are all happening in the same household. No tower switching.
I only have the option to switch on 2g only in my network mode settings on cm10... APN settings are correct and all T-Mobile can say is that I won't get 4g if the tower doesn't support it..
Are there any possible solutions to obtain 4g at all?
If so, how do I keep it on all the time?
Do I need to install a new modem?
If so, which?
Any comments and/or answers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Using Uckl2 at the moment. FYI.
Also, I know the modem is for WiFi but does it affect carrier data? If not what can I change to affect my data connection?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
I always thought the opposite. I thought modems were only for mobile data. But does switching modems help?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Could increase or decrease your signal and rate at which data is downloaded and uploaded depending on your modem of choice. Battery life is also affected minimally (usually).
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Hmm, didn't know that... Well thanks for the lesson but have you tried switching modems?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
I switched through a couple and uckl2 seems pretty stable but no change on carrier network service.. I want to put on kl3 but I can't find the download.. Not too many options for my phone though.. That I know of.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
It might just be your location.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Since I changed to cm10 and switched to T-Mobile sim I have yet to have 4g. Tried where I'm at now and up to 70 miles from here... Very weird. I can't tell if its T-Mobile or the ROM.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Have you had it before on the same phone? Have you tried using another 4g phone?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Yeah I had 4g on it before, on att and on metro. Both while using stock Froyo rom and GB aeon rom.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Weird, it sounds like its the network then
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Yeah that's what I'm thinking but when I called T-Mobile, they said that they cannot diagnose a non-tmobile phone. The only info that they can give me is that they assume its my location and possibly the modem but they cannot guarantee switching modems will work. Doubt they hack phones though, Lol
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
from my recollection..not from experience:
T-mobile or networks other than AT&T will only give you: edge or 3g.
No 4g or hpsa+
to get better than 3g, you need to be on AT&T
When the phone is on "H" I ran a speed test and its pushing 5 to 7 mb download speed. Is that close to 4g?
Any advice on how to stabilize the network?

What I notices that, whenever the phone picks up LTE network, the signal strength bar resets to 0 then back to full. This is also when phone calls get dropped. Have repeated the Scenario several times and proved that is the cause of my call drops. So I think it is most likely a software issue.

I've been running this edit for a few days now, and have noticed there is a faster connection from 3G to HSPA in my office, which is a plus for me. Can't speak to any other benefits the edit may bring, but I can vouch for the edit making the N5 even better.

Did you flash the latest radio like I posted?
Are you on any special ROM? Using smart radio on gravity box or cataclysm? I sometimes have an issue with no signal on smart radio.

Nexus 5 3G connection hangs

Hello, sometimes I have this problem that I randomly can't use 3G data. The 3G icon is still grey (if there's no data its brown), but nothing that requires internet works. Also, the two small arrows near the 3G icon show me that no download is taking place (no down pointing arrow) and only upload arrow is active. Does anyone else have/had this kind of problem?

I had a nexus 4 that cut out and bars went at my mates, a 3 blackspot. My Nexus 5 shows bars but looses data and sometimes says I need to insert a working sim and reboot. None of this happens at home. It's like the phone has a breakdown with a weak signal!

Anyone's YouTube app been buffering like crazy on mobile data?

This started for me about two days ago. I've uninstalled, cleared cache and data. I finally got it working again by reverting back to the stock pre-installed app. Anyone know where to get the version before this most recent update?

I've had this happen to me as well. Could never figure out what it was but eventually the problem went away. My only theory is Verizon throttling me for using to much data but I don't know cause I average about 30-40gigs a month and it doesn't happen every month.

no, different bars. when you pull down on your notification bars, the signal there. if white, then connected to googles servers, if colored then not connected. and using xposed could create issues in itself, undocumented issues.

if its orange, then its not connected. first off, just try rebooting. if still its not working, uninstall the xposed completely and try again.

yea. unfortunately, xposed brings so many undocumented issues into the mix that im going to need it completely uninstalled to help with your issue. i mean whats the point of trying to figure the issue out if you keep installed the one thing that can create these issues?

ok, now im trying to figure out why you arent connecting to googles services.. has this been like this for a while, or only started today? if it only started today, it can happen occasionally. id give it a day or less to see if it connects, i guess the issue could be google side as well.
Yes, it's happened today after configured Gravity Box...
However, I've read some topic on the web saying that it could be a root problem, even if I have never heard about this...

all "root" does is give you permission to change system files, thats all. only way it can be a "root issue is if you went and changed system files(which i doubt). so if it happened after configuring gravity box, chances are that its related to it. again, xposed comes with many many undocumented issues.
Understood, hope it will work
