z3 adaptive display issue - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey bros,
im using a z3 d6653 and it was all good until i got the 5.1.1 update like 2weeks ago and when i unlock my phone,,each time the brightness goes to a ridiculously high amount and it keeps there for 2,3 seconds and goes back to normal..
is this a common issue and how can i solve this

This IS a common issue. Currently no way to solve it. You can only switch adaptive display off or roll back to 5.0 and hope that Sony will fix it in the future.

when will they release thisthing
its really annoying

Xperia L screen flickering issue 4.2.2

Well i know this issue is raised before also but it was getting too annoying for me that i made video to show the sony that what type of problem almost many xperia L users are facing .How am i supposed to use the device when the screen flickers like this. I did factory reset and i did everything. I hope to get answer from the sony , fix the bugs or end this 4.2.2 update rolling out and save the people.
Because there are somepeople out there who doesnt even know how to downgrade phone , they will face the lifelong problems.
Here is the video of what type of problem i am facing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGTqSY52tO8
If sony will not solve this problem , i will never buy the sony device again in my life
I don't see the screen flickering
Sent from 100 years in the future
The first time I updated to 4.2.2 using World Generic version I had,
1.Internel memory problem where memory gets full even I dont have any data inside the storage
2.Screen flickering
3.Left side of display tearing apart
4.Battery consuming (Heating)
after all of that I flashed the Philippine one and luckily the storage error was not thier but other problems are there!
And finally I have decided to come back to 2.17! I hope SONY will release proper, bugless one soon.

[Q] Sony Xperia Z3 Touch Latency

Recently, I bough a Sony Xperia Z3, and I've noticed some pretty major latency/input lag primarily when you're scrolling, when you scroll, the time between the moment you touch the screen to stop the scrolling and when it actually stops scrolling is really big.
This also doesn't just happen when scrolling it affects gaming, I downloaded the game GolfStars and there's a slider you need to touch and stop to get the ball going straight, and because of the latency you need to touch it before it gets to the destination. This is just an example of the myriad of issues the latency this phone has could cause.
Fixes I tried and did not work:
*Force GPU Rendering
*Touch & Hold Delay set to "short"
*Disabled all image and graphic enhancers.
*Enable Glove Mode
So, is this a software or hardware issue? Or is there no issue, and it's just how the phone was made to work?
I had similiar problem with my Z1 ,i sent it to sony but they won't fix it ;/ its 100% hardware problem

Wow, so it's been a problem since the Z1 and they still haven't fixed it?
I wonder if it's a design philosophy.
And how did you cope with this issue?
I'm still within the period to change the phone for another but I really had my hopes up for this phone especially with the PS4 functionality but this issue is major and it's making me reconsider and changing it for something like the M8 which its screen is SUPER responsive. Just how it should be.
JoseZ3, it would probably help if you'd indicate what FW you actually use. I'm in possession of a Z3C and a Z2, there's no such thing like latency/input lag anywhere. Probably a FW update helps to get it addressed.
No latency here at all.

So when you're, let's say, on a webpage, and you flick your finger so it scrolls down, and then you tap the screen so the scrolling stops, it stops immediately?

Yes, it stops immediately, I tried that as soon as I saw your post. I am not much of a gamer, so I cannot confirm if it happens in games or not, but I'll install one or two tomorrow just to be sure.
It seems to me that I was lucky to get a perfect device, so many people are complaining about camera, lags or broken glass, I don't have any of these problems. The only problem I share with the rest of Z3 owners is quiet notification sound.

I was able to fix it!
The latency went away when I turned off "Magnification Gestures" aka tap to zoom. Now it's snappy and responsive.
So to anyone who might read this in the future and is experiencing the same problem try and disable magnification gestures.
Thank you to everyone who tried to help me.
You have fixed what you must have turned on yourself as this function is off by default! Only wonder why you didn't notice the "problem" after having turned it on?!

This the Android version, not the FW version. Anyhow, good that it's solved.

[Q] Display backlight flickers after converting to GPE 5.1

Hello everybody,
yesterday I converted my XT1032 runnung stock moto 5.0.2 to GPE 5.1, using Samanyou Garg's awesome tutorial on youtube.
I'm new here, so I can't provide a link to the video, but it's called "How to Install OFFICIAL Android 5.1 Lollipop GPe on Moto G [XT1033 & XT1032]". Should be easy to find.
So my phone looks exactly like his does, of course. Same build number, same kernel, same everything.
It works like a charm, and I'm really happy to see that some bugs I experienced running 5.0.2 are gone.
Unfortunately the conversion introduced a single new issue though. Whenever my XT1032 dims the display backlight beyond a certain point, the backlight starts to flicker.
This happens when adaptive brightness is on, and the brightness slider is set anywhere between 0 and about 20 percent. It also happens when the screen goes ambient, just before the screen turns off, when set to a low brightness, whether adaptive brightness is set or not. Also, when adaptive brighness is set, the display goes a lot darker than it did on moto 5.0.2, when set to a low brightness.
I read about a similar problem with adaptive brightness people had on 5.0.x, but I haven't found any solution yet, despite searching forums and google for hours and hours.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks in advance,
b6
I also have this problem on 5.0.2 XT1033 dual sim variant.....its needing a fix bad!!!!

I don't think it's a hardware problem, as my backlight and adaptive brightness worked fine on moto 5.0.2.
Ohh.......COME ON MOTOROLA GET UR ACT TOGETHER!!! Does anyone else have this issue?? Lets see if we can bring it to the attention of Motorola
Up - Anybody?

Am i the only one who has display backlight flickering with my Zenfone 6?

Hi,
i got my Zenfone 6 today, and i really like it, but there is one thing that probably makes me return it...
The display is flickering when it‘s set to really low brightness, i think its the backlight.
I‘m not sure if it's broken or not. So, am i the only one with a flickering display?
Thank you

I had the same situation yesterday, it was on low brightness too.
But only for a few seconds, for now, everything seems fine, even in low brightness.
With adaptive brightness set on or off?
Do you have the latest firmware version WW-16.1210.1904.133?
It doesn‘t matterif adaptive brightness is on or off, it does it as soon as the display lowers its brightness to the 1st 1/4 of the brightness bar...
Ok. Do you have the latest firmware version WW-16.1210.1904.133?

Hi, i have the same problem. Received the phone a week ago and trying to find a solution. I am on the last firmware, tried the dev option about overlay, hard reset and still the same. Going to send it back to Asus for a refund...
I wonder if this is software or hardware related. As of now i can't use it at night with low brightness.
It will probably be a problem for a particular phone, I would recommend that you replace it with a new one.

Thanks for the feedback. Called Asus this morning to replace it hopefully.
My Zenfone 6 does the same. If I set the adaptive brightness on the low brightness flickering disappears. I think it's a software related problem because others Zenfone have the same behaviour.
Tried it. No matter the settings it flickers. I found a video that match the problem, weird no one noticed : youtu.be/DN1La8AbZsI
Check at 1.16 min, on the right side, it flickers like that, when the luminosity is low. This is what i see on my screen.
Same here. White backgrounds flicker when brightness set to low. Tried disabling HW overlay, but it didn't help. Phone on the latest firmware WW_16.1210.1904.133.
Anybody letting the techs at Asus know about these problems? I would like to hear about a fix before I buy anything.
I am in touch with Asus France, i have to send back the phone for an exchange as they told me it MAY be a hardware problem.
I linked the thread to them if it can help.
Every zenfone I have had (2 and 3) have had this issue.

I think it's a software issue...if you let the brightness working in auto mode the problem disappears.
It is set in auto mode on my device and still the same. With or without doesn't help sadly.
Hmmm is this international version? The U.S is coming next month. Hopefully this get fix before I'm buying it.

Mine is flickering when brightness is set to low (about 1/4-th of the brightness slider and down) no matter auto or no auto.
Funny how we here in the US complain that so many phones are released in the EU, or India, or China long before they ever appear here....but in reality it could be that we benefit from this practice so that some of these issues can be resolved by others before we have to deal with them.

I hope that when this phone is released in your country, this issue will be solved definitively via software update. The way I see it, this problem isn't a huge problem, fortunately. Actually the screen flickering occours only if the brightness is set to a very low level (e.g. <20%) but, with this setting, the backlight is too dim as well for use even in a dark room (obviously for my taste). Since I use adaptive brightness with default settings, the minimum value the screen brightness reaches is 34% so I never get the problem....
