I can't install Lolipop -_-' (f*********) (XT1034) - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED BY THE UNAMAZING MOI
But feel free to read the issue.

######################################
Hello everyone, Like usual I managed to destroy to some extend the way my very old phone works. Its Rooted. And after an issue with my phone I reverted to a backup (using CWM) and everything went fine (expect SU Binairy wich failed, but got fixed easily).
Now I'm on stock rom. On Kitkat 4.4.4. So I wanted to install a new rom because I did it many times and never really encountered anything I couldn't fix myself (I've been working with overall technology for 4 years now). While searching the new roms xda offered, I realised that they where all for lolipop (or 90% of them) So I decided to update.
It didn't worked. It didn't worked so hard It bootlooped at least 5 times before I shut it down myself.
I don't remember where it failed, but it had to do with my System Version (Somewhere in a folder)
More info:
MOTO G XT1034 Kitkat 4.4.4

So if you still think I should flash stock rom tell me. I think I accidentally flashed the wrong stock rom. Im not sure though.

Please follow the instructions I wrote beacuse what you are doing is wrong.
First you can't flash OTA updates with CWM just with Motorola official recovery for your device version in your case is XT1034 AWS the recovery for XT1032 will not flash OTA for XT1034.
Second you're trying to flash a 5.0.2 based image over 4.4.2 and that's is not going to work.
So please follow my instructions and you will get the Android 5.0.2 with no problems like this

I am not choosing to reboot it in recovery, it does it automatically.

Keep pressed these buttons for 10-15 seconds to enter fastboot mode and then flash the files above: Volume down + power and then connect via usb the moto g and flash the files.

Yes I did and no it didn't had apparent errors. I tried erasing the cache, Dalvik cache and user data. Didn't worked.

So here what ended up happening:
I fixed it without your help.
But now that I flashed motoboot from the file you sent me its uncompatible with my old rom and now my screen flickers everytime I open it (I need to close it to fix it)

Final note. I fixed everything the way I should of.
I got the lolipop stock rom, Pushed it into CWM using adb and flashed it like that.
I got no problems with anything regarding it and will make a backup.
Thanks for the help

Yes, the new bootloader ic ompatibile with 5.0.2 and 5.1. On kitkat you will get screen flicker.

Thank you.
I had an M8 and it stopped charging last night. I bought the Moto G from someone on Craigslist while I wait for the next Nexus(s)(i)(whatever). The one I bought was the XT1034 model and I've been searching and reading for a few hours on how to upgrade it from 4.4.4. I tried installing CM 12.1 and got the Bootloader error, I installed a 5.0.2 based rom and got the screen flicker. Now I'm on 5.0.2 with no flicker.
I know what I'm doing, I've been rooting and roming since 2010 with my OG EVO 4G but I still followed your instructions exactly and it worked. The only issue was the first boot hung on the splash screen for a while and I got a bit nervous but everything worked out.

[GUIDE] Convert any Moto G into a GPE with root and custom recovery

'Morning, 'afternoon and 'night.
I saw some XT1033 (some XT1032 too) users having problems with the latest unified roms (falcon ones) and decided to help them. I already did a guide like this in a brazilian Android forum, so, I'm only translating it. Hope it can be helpful to XDA.
-- First, thanks to ffosilva. Without his "semi-official" firmware, this guide couldn't exist.
| PRE-REQUISITES
- You need to have bootloader unlocked.
- Google Play Edition rom - Google Drive
- Google Play Edition rom - MediaFire
- mfastboot
- Minimal ADB & Fastboot
- Motorola Device Manager (Drivers)
1 - Alright. First of all, install Minimal ADB & Fastboot in C:\, to keep things easy. After, extract Google Play Edition.tgz inside its folder with mfastboot.
2 - Turn off your Moto G and put it on Bootloader mode by pressing power + vol. down for a few seconds.
3 - Plug it in PC and verify if it is connected.
4 - Open cmd.exe and do this command: cd C:\Minimal ADB & Fastboot or the folder you've installed it.
5 - After, copy these commands and paste them. On the third one, cmd will crash, just wait your Moto G reboot and close the warning.
Code:
mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot reboot-bootloader
mfastboot continue
mfastboot flash logo logo.bin
mfastboot flash boot boot.img
mfastboot flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot flash system system.img
mfastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot erase modemst1
mfastboot erase modemst2
mfastboot flash fsg fsg_intl.img
mfastboot erase cache
mfastboot erase userdata
| If you live in USA, do these last commands instead:
Code:
mfastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot erase modemst1
mfastboot erase modemst2
mfastboot flash fsg fsg_gpe.img
mfastboot erase cache
mfastboot erase userdata
| And after checking if all the commands returned an OKAY, do
Code:
mfastboot reboot
| To flash any custom recovery, download CWM or TWRP (thanks to Dhacker29!), put it inside of Minimal ADB & Fastboot folder, launch cmd.exe doing "cd" in folder and do:
Code:
mfastboot flash recovery filename.img
| After, just flash SuperSU from recovery to get root. (thanks chainfire!)
| THIS WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE. INCLUDING INTERNAL STORAGE.
| THIS WILL ALLOW XT1033 TO INSTALL falcon ROMS WITH ONLY ONE SIM WORKING
| NOW YOUR DEVICE HAS EXT4 STORAGE, SOME TWEAKS WON'T WORK
| AND SORRY FOR ANY GRAMMAR ERRORS
-------------------
REVERSE GUIDE
| Use this guide if you failed with first one or want to go back to stock rom.
| Install Minimal ADB & Fastboot again in another folder to avoid conflicts and download here (thanks to droid-developers) your respective stock rom. Extract it inside the folder.
| After, just re-do steps 2, 3 and 4 from above.
| Step 5 you'll run with these commands below. On the third one, cmd will crash, just wait your Moto G reboot and close the warning.
| I'm not sure if system partitions are the same for ALL roms at sbf.droid-developers. Some will have sparsechunk.1, 2 and 3. Verify that before running the commands!
Code:
mfastboot.exe flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot.exe flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot.exe reboot-bootloader
mfastboot.exe continue
mfastboot.exe flash logo logo.bin
mfastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
mfastboot.exe flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
mfastboot.exe flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot.exe erase modemst1
mfastboot.exe erase modemst2
mfastboot.exe flash fsg fsg.mbn
mfastboot.exe erase cache
mfastboot.exe erase userdata
mfastboot.exe reboot

These are ignorable errors. I always get them when flashing this rom but never had problems.
Hi,
I have a question regarding the ROM linked in the thread. Is this the official ROM or is this a modified version? So if I install this ROM on my XT1032, will it get the updates directly OTA from Google?
Thanks

No one knows because there is no OTA for test this. But I believe it will receive because it was made of the system-pull of original GPE Moto G.
Once I do this, how do I get back to non-gpe?

Download your stock rom here and flash it with a flashall.bat that is inside the zip of each rom there. Or you can do manually. It's the same thing of those commands above, just change archive's names. Some will have system.img divided into three parts, so, flash in the sequence.
noob question?
this may be a really noobish question but how do i extract "Google Play Edition - falcon.tgz"
everytime i run mfastboot it closes.

Use WinRAR to do so. You can't run mfastboot. Run "cmd.exe" and follow the guide. You have to cd a workspace.
Misunderstood

I got it to work, my problem was i was expecting the entire folder not a .tar image.
I then realized that i had to extract the tar file and use 7zip or winrar to extract all the files out of that one. Fileception if you will.
Thanks again for writing this tutorial.

Messed up my Moto G, really need some help please :(

Hey guys. I got a telus moto g xt1032. It was on official 5.0.2. I flashed TWPR 2.8.5.0, and encountered the bootloop bug. I proceeded to flash the only stock telus firmware i could find- 4.4.4. I followed the guide on XDA to the tee and resulted in my moto go being stuck at the "Warning, boot loader unlocked" screen. I have no idea what to do and would really appreciate some help, as I am new to this. Am even willing to donate if it results in me fixing my phone. Thank for taking the time to read

hey man, ok ill try that again. The only thing is, there is no boot.img in the telus file I downloaded. Its named "motoboot." Should i replace that with the boot img part? Also, i recently read somewhere trying to downgrde from 5.0.2 to 4.4.4 will mess my phone up. Is that true?
EDIT- I do remember the first time i tried this after sparsechunk.1, is sad "image file is too large" but kept on goiing anyways

motoboot.img and boot.img are not the same thing. Be careful renaming these files, or else you will destroy your phone. If there is no boot.img included then that zip has been messed with by someone.
The 'image file is too large' message should not be ignored - it means the firmware has not flashed at all. Nothing has changed on your phone; flash has not been successful.

[Solved] Stuck at bootlogo no matter what rom I flash

Hi everyone,
I follow this awesome forum for several years now. Unfortunately, I currently have a problem which I do not get solved on my own and hope for your support:
My xt1032 (non GPE, non LTE) is stuck at bootlogo no matter what rom I flash! :crying:
Background:
Some time ago I successfully converted my device to the GPE edition using MotoTool. After Lollipop was finalized and penetrated me to update, I did him the favor. As some apps were no longer compatible, I restored my nandroid backup and lived with the ongoing update message.
Now that I leave the device to my wife, I'm trying to flash a factory image of desirably 5.1 GPE.
First I tried to flash GPE_5.1_XT1032_LMY47M.M001_CFC.xml.zip using fastboot:
Code:
mfastboot.exe flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot.exe flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot.exe flash logo logo.bin
mfastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
mfastboot.exe flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
mfastboot.exe flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot.exe erase modemst1
mfastboot.exe erase modemst2
mfastboot.exe flash fsg fsg.mbn
mfastboot.exe erase cache
mfastboot.exe erase userdata
mfastboot.exe reboot
... stuck in Google bootlogo.
Then I tried to flash XT1032_FALCON-RETEU_5.0.2_LXB22.46-28.1_1_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml.zip also using fastboot:
Code:
mfastboot.exe flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot.exe flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot.exe flash logo logo.bin
mfastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
mfastboot.exe flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
mfastboot.exe flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot.exe erase modemst1
mfastboot.exe erase modemst2
mfastboot.exe flash fsg fsg.mbn
mfastboot.exe erase cache
mfastboot.exe erase userdata
mfastboot.exe reboot
.. stuck in Motorola unlocked bootloader warning.
I also tried to flash GPE_XT1032_KTU84P.M003_CFC.xml.zip again using fastboot:
Code:
mfastboot.exe flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot.exe flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot.exe flash logo logo.bin
mfastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
mfastboot.exe flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
mfastboot.exe flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot.exe erase modemst1
mfastboot.exe erase modemst2
mfastboot.exe flash fsg fsg.mbn
mfastboot.exe erase cache
mfastboot.exe erase userdata
mfastboot.exe reboot
.. stuck in Google bootlogo again.
I even tried to 'convert to GPE' in MotoTool as I did before using the same image as it was then. Unfortunately with the same result...
I'm a bit desperate right now! My research into threads with similar problems have led to no result. Solutions like flashing gptfix.bin didn't to the trick. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone point me to the right direction please?
Thanks in advance!
*nikon
*push*
I tried this and that in the meantime... all I get are bootscreens in multiple versions. After all I still have fastboot access.
My wife is getting nervous and so am I! Do I have a brick now?
Thanks in advance!

I'm gonna make an educated guess its probably formation the GPE-rom uses ext4 in /data and the motorala uses F2FS (those are linux file-systems). GPE doesn't work with F2FS and Moto doesn't work with EXT4.
And assuming you use the TWRP as your recovery? If not install it with Mototools or fastboot to recover your phone (I'm not 100% sure if this is the only method but is the only method I can think of).
Step 1) Download the right recovery from this thread. If you want GPE-rom download GPE otherwise download falcon. Instructions are given in this thread.
Step 2) Start your recovery via fastboot and than choose recovery (use sound button down to scroll, up to select). If everything is allright your booting to a recovery menu with touchbuttons.
Step 3) Choose wipe -->> Advanced wipe -->> select data -->> Repair or Change File System -->> Choose F2FS or Ext4 depending on your choose for moto (F2FS) or an GPE rom. (Ext4). Repeat this steps for /system and /cache.
Step 4) Do a factory reset just to be sure (not sure if necessary, better safe than sorry)
Step 5) Flash your rom of choose
Step 6) Report back to me when succeeded if not report back with more information.
I like this thread its friendly and much information is given and your seem very polite (Learn from this man you screamy panicking kids). There is how ever some essential information missing.
-Which recovery did you use?
-What is your bootloader version?
-From which rom are you coming?
P.s. I never used Fastboot to flash an complete rom only for recovery's (except for my oldskool G1, but that was long ago). I like flashing via recovery most roms are tested and made for flashing via TWRP or CWMR (mostly specified from dev).
P.s.s. I tried my best English! Its not my first language.
@*nikon - provide a fastboot log of the entire flashing process. I want to see any message fastboot is presenting.
Also, you do not need to change the format of /data manually - flashing the gpt.bin does that automatically.
EDIT: Using TWRP to flash a custom ROM is much safer than flashing fastboot images. A flashable GPE 5.1 ROM is available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/rom-stock-motorola-lollipop-rom-t3017510
Shortly beforehand: thanks a lot for your responses! Very nice to have some feedback!
After being quite busy this weekend, I now have the time to dig into this again.
@Xacky: My apologies for the missing information.
I've tried different recoveries, mainly stock recovery or TWRP depending on my current flash try. Thank you that you have pointed out to me on the recovery thread where I became aware of the GPE edition of TWRP. I'll take this one in the future if I get this hopefully running sometime.
My current bootloader version is 41.18 because last time I tried to downgrade again to 4.4.4. But I also had version 41.19 running with my Lollipop tries.
Concerning the rom I was coming from, I thought my description was relatively detailed. The original was a (NON-GPE) Moto rom, upgraded to 4.4.4 GPE by Moto Tool, then OTA upgraded some time to 5.0.1, downgraded by naindroid backup restore and then tried to flash a 5.1 GPE factory image via fastboot. Then the journey began...
@lost101: Thanks for the information that the format is no issue since it is defined by gpt.bin. I'll give the images from your thread a try and get back in when my battery is ready for flashing again. I also try to save a log which I can post here, if necessary by hand.

I'm back with good news! :victory:
Unfortunately I still don't know what the problem was (and I really can't stand this!!), but it seems to be solved. I successfully managed to downgrade to 4.4.4 with the image from this thread and then I was able to flash GPE 5.1 as stated in this tutorial.
Afterall kind of weird because I am firm conviction that I've not done anything else manually in the beginning.
Nonetheless, thanks for listening!

Hey Nikon,
I'm running into the same issue as you. My only question is: is there still screen flickering once you've updated to 5.1? thx
Hey pables69,
sry for beeing late - I was quiet busy the last few days.
To answer your question:
No, fortunately screen flickering is also gone since the upgrade! :good:

[Windows Tool] Moto G 2015 XT1072 Restore to to Stock Android 5.0.2

HI FRIENDS!
This is a one-click tool I made to automatically restore your device back to stock firmware. This is for Windows only at the moment. This tool can restore your device to stock when the device is booted up, in a bootloop, in recovery, or in booloader mode (fastboot mode).
Introducing my new "Restore to Stock" tool for Windows! This is tool currently supports XT1072.
So how do u restore to stock?
***This will wipe all your data***
Step 1)
Download the "Moto G 2014 Restore to Android 5.0.2" zip from here:
XT1072:
1) Firmware 22.46.28 [5.0.2-EU] - LINK
Step 2)
Extract the .zip to a location on your PC/Laptop you can easily access
Step 3)
Plug your Moto G 2015 into your computer
***Make sure all the proper device drivers are installed***
Step 4)
In the extracted folder, find a file called "Auto Restore Script" and click it (It is a Windows batch file)
Step 5)
In less than 5 min. your Moto G 2015 will be restored to stock firmware
NOTE: I RECOMMEND YOU TRY THIS TOOL OUT ON YOUR MOTO G, SO JUST IN CASE IF YOU EVER ARE IN A PROBLEM (BOO-LOOP, CORRUPT PARTITION, ETC.) YOU KNOW HOW TO USE THIS TOOL AND U ARE ASSURED THIS TOOL WORKS!
If you like my work please donate by clicking "DONATE TO ME" on the left side of this post under my XDA username.
ALL DONATIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Oh my god, your lovely tool just saved my new Moto G from bricktown after an aborted attempt at rooting. Cannot thank you enough.
One note I want to add: in order to get this to work, I had to move the files into the same folder as my 'fastboot' and 'adb' installation, and also remove the 'm' from the start of each line. Otherwise, it worked perfectly.
Thank you thank you thank you!
you really need to add the mfastboot.exe file to this as in its current state it is not working until you add the file yourself. either add the file or change the script to use normal fastboot
Just to confirm ... will this restore my Moto G back 100% to how it was before I started rooting (and I can then receive official updates)? There are so many different versions of Moto G 2nd generation, like 2014 vs. 2015, Europe vs. USA, etc. I just want to be sure.
I tried rooting my phone yesterday, and I might want to go back to default at some point (I only unlocked bootloader + installed TWRP + installed SuperSU).
See attached photo of my phone's stats.
The link is broken
I have the file. I try to share it this weekend.
EDIT:
Here you are
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...1072] Restore to Android 5.0.2 (22.46.28).zip
Anyone have this already and can reupload it?
doesn't work on my XT1072
with my old phone, the galaxy nexus, it will take 1 click and 5 minutes time to restore to stock firmware with a simple toolkit, now i look like a freaking noob.

Hey mate don't know if you fixed the problem but you can find the latest image for you phone xt1072 BR
MM XT1078_THEA_RETBR_DS_6.0_MPB24.65-34_cid12_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
or latest 5.0.2 whit stagefright fix
LL XT1078_THEA_RETBR_DS_5.0.2_LXB22.99-24.12_cid12_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
To flash this use the minimal fastboot folder in my sign and the correct bat script LP/MM, just put everything in the same folder and launch the bat

Grab the latest stock image for your phone from the repo linked in my sign, read the first answer in this post reply on how to flash it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most of the times if you didn't flashed the wrong files you can recover from a bootloop by wiping data/cache (factory reset) whit bootloader or fastboot.
As @lucifermorn noted the original updater.bat file included by th OP wasn't complete, motoboot.img missing if i'm correct, and wasn't using mfastbootv2.
You can find bat scripts for flashing stock roms in my sign, latest minimal fastboot+mfastbootv2, and a link to the moto g stock roms repo on filefactory.
PS
@vegdroid that image is old too, latest 5.0.2 whit stagefright fix is 22.99-24.12 if i'm correct.
Check the moto g stock images repo linked in my sign.
EDIT
Ouch @erprando just realized you wasn't asking, but stating that you have flashed an xt1072 rom on an xt1078, that a very bad thing, if my bat script isn't working you know why.

Stuck at Motorola Bootlogo after Security update

Device: XT1031 converted to XT1028 for use on Page Plus. Bootloader unlocked. Rooted with SuperSU 2.46 Running Stock Verizon 5.1 ROM 221.26.7.falcon_cdma.Verizon.en.US
Recovery: TWRP 2.8.7.0
I accepted the new security update - http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/moto-g-1st-gen-actually-security-update-t3362323
and when it tried to install the update, the phone just rebooted into TWRP Recovery.
So I flashed stock recovery from the Verizon 5.1 ROM and then tried the update again. This time it completed the update and rebooted but is now stuck at the Motorola bootlogo.
I'm able to reboot into fastboot.
I tried flashing system.img_sparsechunk.0, .1, .2, and .3, and rebooted but there is no change.
What can I try to get past this?
Before starting this I made a backup using TWRP Recovery, can I reinstall TWRP and restore that backup?
it would help to see a log of the flashing process. Copy and paste command prompt screen. Take screenshots if necessary.
Fastboot Tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
If the TWRP backup is still on phone, it might be worth transferring it to a PC / external OTG usb drive, as using the following fastboot command will erase it, along with everything else on internal storage:
fastboot command erase userdata

The TWRP backup was saved to an external OTG USB drive, so that's safe.
I was originally going to do the same as I did for the last update - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63976723&postcount=109 but tried it first and when it went straight to recovery, I figured I needed to flash stock recovery. I also figured I needed to flash system also, but it through me off when the sparsechunks were numbered 0 - 3 instead of 1 - 4.
I didn't see any errors when I did the flashes.
Right now my battery is drained all the way to 0%. Hopefully it charges back up.
I appreciate the response. Thanks.
Do all fastboot commands including erase userdata. Change sparsechunk names to match the files in the firmware folder you have downloaded. Phone should charge on fastboot screen, but probably not if at a very low percentage.

I'm using this stock ROM: XT1028_FALCON_VERIZON_5.1_LPB23.13-33.7_cid2_CFC.xml.zip
The sparsechunk files in that zip are named:
system.img_sparsechunk.0
system.img_sparsechunk.1
system.img_sparsechunk.2
system.img_sparsechunk.3
and I need to rename them:
system.img_sparsechunk1
system.img_sparsechunk2
system.img_sparsechunk3
system.img_sparsechunk4
Correct?
Then I would run the following commands one at a time and checking for an OK on each, correct?
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk4
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot reboot
After that I can check that I can boot into the OS and then I can flash TWRP and restore my saved backup.
Does that sound right?
Thanks.
Don't rename the sparsechunk files. I said change the name when doing the fastboot commands.

And on the Moto G's screen:

Is that a problem?

I don't personally restore TWRP backups because of bad experiences, but as long as you are using the latest available TWRP you should be okay.

I decided to start over and not try to recover from the saved file. I don't think there was anything on there that I really needed anyway. All my pictures and stuff was synced to Google.
I'm guessing that I ran into a problem by not flashing the 4 system sparsechunks from the stock ROM to remove root and I wasn't able to flash the same 5.1 that I had on there since it was updated. Flashing the latest newer build Verizon ROM worked because it was the same as what was contained in the update.
I didn't receive another OTA update and system update shows my phone as up to date with:
Android version: 5.1
Android security patch level: 2016-03-01
System version: 221.201.2.falcon_cdma.Verizon.en.US
Build number: LPBS23.13-33.7-2
I'm back to having a working phone. Thanks for your help. Hopefully this will help others too.
