Heck yes thank you much

Getting my note 5 Friday...thanks @TEKHD for this guide....as well as others who have made this possible
Sent from my SM-N910T

TEKHD - You da man!!!
Now I'm gonna have to dive in and root this bad boy... I love the device, but root will really help me make it mine!
I know several of you have been working on all this stuff, just want to say thanks to all who have participated in making this happen!
I've never owned a device and been a part of watching it all happen from the beginning of the device being released.
Very cool to see it all come together.

Nand Write Fix - Worked for Me
@TEKHD - Thank you for this guide - very cool
Just a suggestion. I had trouble with flashing the kernel and twrp initially getting nand write errors every time. I did follow the suggested solutions at that time
Anyways i found renaming the kernel and twrp to show as .tar at the end instead of .tar.md5 worked for me and a couple others. Just a suggestion maybe to add it as an alternative Nand Write fix solution.
Thanks
Glen

Very very cool! Thanks!

okay... so... We have to use the tar then? I have a Flashable zip in the guide (Kernel as Flashable zip).... that doesn't work then? I basically need to change Step 6 and include the Kernel as tar format?

@TEKHD thank you again for the mention man I got the ROM uploaded check it out when you get a chance and your PM too I've got some strange issue happening maybe you know more than I do

As usual, TEKHD is leading the charge. I have a feeling I may be getting a new phone soon.

Ok, in the other thread that Tek closed people were talking about going into the build prop and changing secure support to false to get the wifi password to stick after reboot. I have done this with root explorer and root browser and it does not work. Anyone else have a solution or maybe i am the only one that it is not working for..... Thanks!

After renaming the TWRP file to .tar instead of .tar.md5 this did not work for me. Also what do i need it rename the kernel to? should i just add .tar to the end as well? Thank you in advance for your response.

Good Luck!

Do you guys all still have call audio after rooting?
I have no call audio, and when I make a phone call, the device slows down considerably to the point where even adjusting the volume or hanging up takes a long time.
I'm going to try flash stock back and redo the process. Interested in hearing if anyone else has this issue or it's just me.
Thanks.

Oh I didn't see you had made the kernel a flash able zip so nevermind for that.
Then for TWRP I'd suggest renaming it to: TWRP-2.8.7.1-Alpha_N920T.tar (just removing the md5 part). That's what fixed my nand write issues in the beginning.
Hope that made sense.

[HOWTO] Root, Hack, Flash G1/Dream

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6763690&postcount=1246
This is a remake of the original post by Koush. Much thanks to him and everyone for the work on root'ing. The original post has not been updated in recent days so I started a new thread with new instructions.
OLD METHOD
G1 RC*/CRC*/DRC* (phone is OFF)
ON YOUR PC
1. Download the DREAIMG-RC*.zip
US-DREA100 http://android.lucidrem.us/_fd.php?file=files/howto-root/DREAIMG-RC29.zip
EU-DREA110 http://android.lucidrem.us/_fd.php?file=files/howto-root/DREAIMG-RC7.zip 2. Extract DREAIMG.nbh to SD FAT32
3. Download the recover_testkeys.img
http://android.lucidrem.us/_fd.php?file=files/howto-root/recovery_testkeys.img 4. Copy recovery_testkeys.img to SD FAT32
5. Download the TheOfficial TMO_OTA_DRC83/92
US http://android.lucidrem.us/_fd.php?file=files/enomther/USA/DRC83/update.zip
EU http://android.lucidrem.us/_fd.php?file=files/enomther/EUR/DRC92/update.zip 6. Copy update.zip to SD FAT32
ON YOUR G1
1. Put SD in the G1 - Hold CAMERA + POWER
2. Press POWER to INSTALL
3. When COMPLETE Click TRACKBALL
4. Hold GREEN + MENU + RED -> REBOOT
5. GoTo Home -> Apps -> Market -> Telnet -> INSTALL
6. GoTo Home -> Type [enter]telnetd[enter]
7. GoTo Home -> Apps -> Telnet -> Connect
8. Type id[enter] -> "uid=0(root) gid=0(root)"
9. Type mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system[enter]
10. Type dd if=/system/bin/sh of=/system/bin/su[enter]
11. Type chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
12. GoTo Home -> Apps -> Market -> Terminal Emulator -> INSTALL -> RUN
13. Type su[enter] -> #
14. Type cat /sdcard/recovery_testkeys.img > /system/recovery.img[enter]
15. Type flash_image recovery /system/recovery.img[enter]
16. Press POWER -> OFF
17. Hold HOME + POWER -> Hold ALT + S -> INSTALL
18. Hold HOME + BACK -> REBOOT
You can download the text file here:
http://android.lucidrem.us/files/howto-root.txt
NEW METHOD - (does not work on v1.6/DRC*) - Wow. I am reposting this info from another source:
This is an automatic root process. Load a new recovery image and load a ROM with some simple clicks.
1. Download these to the SD:
http://android.lucidrem.us/_fd.php?file=files/howto-root/flashrec-20090904.apk
http://android.lucidrem.us/_fd.php?file=files/howto-root/recovery-RA-dream-v1.4.0.img
USA http://android.lucidrem.us/_fd.php?file=files/enomther/USA/DRC83/update.zip
EUR http://android.lucidrem.us/_fd.php?file=files/enomther/EUR/DRC92/update.zip 2. Use ASTRO to install the APK file. -> Run the program.
3. Click to BackUp your current recovery.
4. Type "/sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.4.0.img" into the text box. -> Click "Flash Custom Recovery Image" (unless you want Cyan)
5. Boot into the recovery screen and flash the new update.zip file.
You now have root access and you did not have to wipe.
Now you will be able to reboot into the recovery screen and flash any ROM.
Try it. You'll like it. Works on G1 and myTouch.

Touch Screen Root Process
Wow. I am reposting this info from another source:
This is an automatic root process. Load a new recovery image and load a ROM with some simple clicks.
http://android.lucidrem.us/_fd.php?file=files/howto-root/recovery-rav1.2.1g.img
http://android.lucidrem.us/_fd.php?file=files/howto-root/flashrec-20090815.apk
Download these two files to the phone. Install the APK with ASTRO. Flash the custom image by typing it into the text box. Done. Now you will be able to reboot into the recovery screen and flash any ROM. Try it. You'll like it. Works on G1 and myTouch.

How do I know if I have root?
I tried the new method, and everything seemed to go through without glitches. Is there any way I can verify that I have gained root access?
Thanks.

LucidREM, fantastic work. I think people need this tut because they have a hard time reading the originals. And my thoughts the gods should be pleased
It wouldnt let me install the flash recovery apk. I followed the directions to the letter.

absolutely .. the cyan 1.4 is actually the default recovery in the APK that you download .. however .. it is not 100% compatible with all phones .. the newer recovery image from RA is good for G1 and myTouch as well .. the recovery is actually very nice and you should still be able to use cyan's ROM with a different recovery image

Fantastic. Music to my ears.
I've been a little more cautious recently, since my late G1 met it's demise... I somehow managed to fry the boot-loader. It's actually hilarious reading other posts on here because some people are so adamant about how it's impossible to brick the G1... well trust me. I did.
Anyway, thanks Lucid, I'll be trying your little method when my phone arrives Friday.
OH and just to double check. No need to revert to RC29 to make this work? I can have any factory-tmobile-out-of-the-box ROM on my phone and the NEW method will do the trick?
Again,
Thanks
Still not working.
Build Number:
1.56.73.2 PLAT-1.0_gms-135348 CL#11526 release-keys, so it's none of those two versions , and as I said before, not even the boot screen isn't the same ( Camera button+power)
Hope this helps, and i get a solution to my problem :-<
Found the topic that's dedicated to this version of the dream thanks anyway.

This is sort of a given considering you're installing an apk from an untrusted source (ie, not the Market).

What if I restore a backup of stock rom and update firmware to DXLB1 through kies or FOTA. Would flashing this rom through CWM work then?

[GUIDE] Installing a Custom Recovery and Rooting the Developer Edition Galaxy S5

Installing a Custom Recovery and Rooting the Verizon Developer Edition Galaxy S5
This only applies to the Verizon Developer Edition Galaxy S5, NOT the regular Retail Verizon Galaxy S5.
Given that is a Developer Edition device I would assume a basic understanding of Android, adb and other tools needed.
Let’s install a custom recovery (in our case TRWP), then install Root (in our case SuperSU), then make sure we do a backup of the whole device, just in case.
Install Samsung USB drivers. (They are on the “CD-ROM” that mounts when you plug in the phone in the computer, or can be found here).
Turn off "Reactivation Lock" in Settings > General > Security
Download Odin 3.07 here.
Download the .tar version of TWRP from here.
Download the .zip file for the SuperSU install from here and copy it somewhere on your phone.
Select Odin, click the right button and select “Run as Administrator” (Just to be on the safe side).
Power Off the Phone and reboot in Download Mode (hold the menu button and volume down buttons then press the power button until the device reboots).
Make sure the phone is detected, then click the PDA button, select the .tar file downloaded on Step 4. Make sure that only “Auto reboot” and “F. Reset Time” are selected. Click the “Start” button. The Phone should reboot once finished.
Power Off the Phone and reboot in Recovery Mode (hold the menu button and volume up buttons then press the power button until the device reboots).
Install the SuperSU .zip file from step 5.
Now it is also a good time to make full backup of the phone from TWRP. Reboot when done.
?
Profit
Once Rooted you can use Xposed installer, AdAway, Root explorer and Titanium Backup to clean up personalize your phone (See next post).

Thanks I was hoping for a guide just like this. My DevS5 comes in Monday, I guess by next day delivery they mean the next 5th day delivery, but I'm going to test out some mods for other carriers S5's, and hopefully we can get a nice list of working mods going.

Minor feedback:
I suspect that step 2 was appended. As such, in steps 8 and 10 the reference to prior steps needs +1. So, step 8 should refer back to step 4 and step 10 should refer back to step 5.
Thank you!

Hi guys, i'm trying to figure out if i need to Root and install TWRP Recovery 1st to be able to backup the bootloader, or do i need to backup the bootloader before i do any of these steps?
Strange, this didn't work for me. Odin went through and then threw out a fail.
das7982's Odin rescue/rooted image, that worked w/ Odin and got me back up again.

Q. If i want to install this rom should i change my csc ?
A. yes the L wont work (method 1) unless you change the csc to XXV/THL choose one of them and change to it
Q. Is this an official and stable release ?
A. its is a leak and in beta stages to expect bugs
Q. How's The battery life on this stock ?
A. Well this is a new TW UI with white backaround and the color white itself actually drains more battery than 4.4.2 but 5.0 isn't a big issue

A. yes there is you have to flash the old bootloader since flashing this update will replace your old bootloader
Q. How can i revert back to kitkat ?
A. You can follow @dr.ketan's way thanks @dr.ketan for providing the way
1.Make CWM backup before flashing lollipop (Recommended on ExtSD bcoz incase you wipe data
with stock recovery it will be erase if on IntSD)
2.Flash Lollipop
3.If you want to revert flash KK bootloader (get from here) - I am not sure this step is must or not but anyway decide yourself
4.Reboot to recovery (use same recovery which used to make CWM backup)
5.Factory reset
6.Restore
PS : You can also revert to stock KK by flashing stock ROM using Odin (Reported by @djmax81
Q.How's the battery life ?
A.some users reported its draining way too fast and some say its really great, for me its not draining too fast for me its good battery life
Q. Does Xposed work on this ROM ?
A. NOOO !!! Xposed doesnt work on any android that runs on ART runtime so tough luck !

Hi in the last thread update they said that you can apply lollipop to any base does that mean that i shouldnt download the Vietnamese or thi firm ware. Can i use any other nj3 to upgrade ? Thanx
Yes i'll update the thread with the method as soon as i finish work, but you need bootloader and recovery for L in order to do so. And never forget to make NAN BACKUP and EFS BACKUP you never know what could go mate.
Thanks
Thanks

I know this option, I just think maybe it's not work with lolipop
If I go back to Kitkat can I install the lolipop without his bootloader ?
Edit: I have another question and it's not about the BL
Since S5 and anything new from this, the menu button change to recent apps, In Kitkat we can do that also with XPOSED. In lolipop Xposed doesn't support yet, so, how i can do that manually?
about the fixes
ok good to know

(GUIDE:) How to ROOT the TAB S6 - SM-T860 (Wi-Fi Model) - (12/10/21):

Hello all,
BORING INTRO STUFF (Safely Ignore This):
I couldn't find any guide that was current enough to make me feel confident in going through with rooting this tablet. So because of that, I decided I would make on my own guide for those that needed this. I tried multiple guides here and all of them resulted in a boot-loop.
VERY SMALL PSA: I'm apologizing in advance if this guide is both pointless and longer than it needs to be. I figured it would be useful as a future reference in-case anyone needed this.
THINGS YOU WILL NEED:
* TAB S6 - SM-T860 (Wi-Fi)
* This can be done on Android 9,10 & 11 (Process is the same)
* Your specific firmware downloaded (*DO NOT SKIP THIS*)
* Tablet is charged to at least 50%
* Maximum of 20 minutes to both read & follow the process
* FIRMWARE: The link below is the firmware I used. I would still advise you to both look for your specific version and to use the link provided below only if your tablet is exactly as followed:
* (T860XXU4CUI4) - BUILD NUMBER
* (ANDROID 11) - ANDROID VERSION
* (XAR - CELLUAR SOUTH) - SERVICE PROVIDER SOFTWARE VERSION
( https://samfirms.com/SM-T860/KOR/T860XXU4CUI4 )
* SAMSUNG USB DRIVERS: ( https://developer.samsung.com/android-usb-driver )
* ODIN: ( https://samfirms.com/download-odin ) Latest is 3.14.4. Use that one or the newest one
* TWRP (OPTIONAL): T860 (Wi-Fi) ONLY. DOWNLOAD VERSION "twrp-3.6.0_9-0-gts6lwifi.img.tar" OR THE LATEST ONE AVAIABLE.

* MAGISK APP: ( https://magiskmanager.com/downloading-magisk-manager )
* LZ4 TOOL: ( https://github.com/lz4/lz4/releases )
* 7-ZIP: ( https://www.7-zip.org/download.html )
HOW TO ROOT:
1. UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER: *** THIS WILL WIPE YOUR DATA *** (GO TO SETTINGS > ABOUT TABLET > SOFTWARE INFORMATION & TAP BUILD NUMBER 7 TIMES. GO TO DEVELOPER OPTIONS > TOGGLE ON OEM UNLOCKING) TURN OFF THE TABLET. AT YOUR PC, HAVE A CABLE CONNECTED TO THE PC. WHILE HOLDING BOTH VOLUME DOWN + VOLUME UP, PLUG IN THE CABLE. WHEN THE SCREEN TURNS ON, PRESS AND HOLD VOLUME UP.
WHEN THE SCREEN CHANGES PROMOTING YOU TO UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER, PRESS VOLUME UP. ONCE BOOTED UP, GO THROUGH THE SETUP AGAIN AND MAKE SURE Wi-Fi IS CONNECTED. GO BACK TO SETTINGS, ENABLE DEVELOPER OPTIONS AGAIN AND THEN ENABLE USB - DEBUGGING.
2. EXTRACT THE BOOT.IMG.LZ4 FILE AND MOVE IT TO YOUR TABLET: After 7-Zip is installed, the LZ4 Tool and the firmware you downloaded is extracted somewhere, open the extracted firmware folder. Right-click on the AP file and select 7-zip then open archive. Look for boot.img.lz4, drag it inside of the LZ4 Tool. Once done, drag the boot.img.lz4 on top of the LZ4 executable. It will be extracted as boot.img. Right-click the boot.img file and select 7-zip then add to archive. Change "Archive format" to tar and rename it to boot.tar. Finally, move it to your tablet's storage.
3. DOWNLOAD THE MAGISK APK: Install the Magisk apk that you downloaded and open it up. Within the app, select install, uncheck recovery mode and press next then check "Select and Patch a file". Locate your boot.tar file that you moved into your storage from earlier and wait for Magisk to process it.
4. USING ODIN: Go ahead and locate the new file, it starts with Magisk (NOT THE BOOT.TAR FROM EARLIER SHOULD START WITH MAGISK). Once done, move the Magisk tar file to your computer and turn off the tablet. With the tablet off and Odin open (Run as administrator) , press and hold both VOLUME DOWN & VOLUME UP then plug the cable from your pc into your tablet. With Odin open, go into the "options" tab, uncheck "Auto Reboot" and Select "AP". Locate the Magisk tar file you moved from your tablet and then press "Start".
ONCE IT SAYS "PASS" THEN STOP AND READ THIS BEFORE CONTINUING. *IMPORTANT*
PRESS AND HOLD BOTH POWER AND VOLUME DOWN FOR 7 SECONDS. THE SCREEN WILL TURN BLACK. VERY QUICKLY WHILE STILL HOLDING POWER, PRESS AND HOLD VOLUME UP INSTEAD. PRESS POWER TO THE BOOTLOADER UNLOCK PROMPT AND YOU SHOULD BE IN RECOVERY. THIS SHOULD BOOT YOU INTO STOCK RECOVERY. USE THE VOLUME KEYS TO NAVIGATE, SELECT "Wipe data/factory reset" then press the power button and select "Factory data reset". Finally, select "Reboot system now" and Wait for the tablet to reboot into the OS.
5. FINISHING UP: After the tablet has restarted back into android and you took a couple of minutes to go through the setup one last time. Scroll up into the app drawer and make sure that you see the app "Magisk", go ahead and select it and press ok to download Magisk. Afterwards, open it up and Magisk will ask you to reboot to finish setting up root. Press ok. Once restarted you are done with the rooting process.
Lastly, as an optional step you can install TWRP.
6. TWRP INSTALLATION (OPTIONAL): With the tablet off and Odin running on your pc, go ahead and press VOLUME DOWN AND VOLUME UP at the same time then plug in the data cable from your PC. Press VOLUME UP to go into download mode. Once in download mode, select "AP" then select the TWRP tar file you downloaded and make sure to uncheck "Auto reboot" from the options tab in Odin. Click start and after it says "PASS" unplug the data cable. On the tablet, press VOLUME DOWN AND POWER to reboot and when you see THE SCREEN TURN BLACK, QUICKLY PRESS AND HOLD BOTH POWER AND VOLUME UP. You should be in TWRP and you are now officially done.
* From now on, I would recommend you use the Magisk app or some reboot app to boot into recovery as it is difficult to use the button combinations to access recovery.
* IF YOU'RE NOT USING MAGISK TO REBOOT TO RECOVERY, I WOULD USE THIS APP INSTEAD: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eypcnnapps.quickreboot&hl=en_US&gl=US
Credits: If all went well then I appreciate you taking the time to read through this guide carefully. Hope it was as clear as possible and that you found it helpful. I will be editing this post from time to time to make it cleaner.
Again, Thank you and if you have any questions, I will answer them when I see them.
THANK YOU SO MUSH IVE BEEN STRUGGLING SO HARD TO GET ROOT ON THIS TABLET FINALLY THANK YOUUUUUU
by the way guys, when it says to reboot to make magisk work.
you are risking a bootloop.
Oh by the way, aside from TWRP being wonky thank you for the guide I had been playing with the idea of rooting this thing for over a year now. You made it easy.
I go through all the steps and it works fine. Once I try for TWRP I end up with
"partition recovery
Reason recovery: Error verifying vbmeta image: invalid vbmeta header (6)
CUSTOM recovery
VBMETA T860XXU4DVG6, 54204454R"
From that point it just loops back to that message and downloading mode until I wipe it all and start over again. I TWRP a no go for the S6 now? I guess I can dig around on their site as well. Any input anyone wants to throw my way will also be appreciated.
Hi Sadistic - ,
I need to start with a complement. This is a really clear guide.
But, When I get done with step 3, the Magisk patched boot file has a .img extension
On step 4, Odin is expecting a .tar file extension so the file doesnt show up.
Did I miss something?
Thanks

Yes, step 2 is moving the extracted boot file (re-named to .tar) to my tablet and then patching it with magisk.
The patched file from Magisk has an .img extension.

Let's just cancell this. it was over 20 days since I asked for help & now I'm getting asked for screenshots.
I have moved on.
I probably should have put that in my reply.
