[Completed] Flashed HTC One M8 Stock Recovery, Updates Result In Red Exclamation Mark - XDA Assist

Hello! This is my first post here, mostly driven by my need to download a patch for Stagefright.
My bootloader is unlocked and I am rooted. I was running TWRP up until now, but I want to patch stagefright so I decided to re-flash the stock recovery. Now, whenever I allow my phone to update, it goes straight to a red exclamation mark inside a triangle.
Firstly, I have an AT&T HTC One M8. Here is what fastboot says:
S-ON
HBOOT: 3.19.0.0000
Radio: [email protected]
OpenDSP: v47.2.-00564-M8974_F0.1024
My OS and other software versions are
Android 5.0.2
HTC Sense: 6.0
Software: 4.28.502.1
HTC SDK API level: 6.55
Kernel Version: 3.4.0
Baseband Version: 4.0.U605611
Build Number: 4.28.502.1 CL51189 release-keys
I would greatly appreciate your assistance. As it stands, I am very stressed out.

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
Sorry to hear about your trouble. Fortunately there is an XDA area dedicated to the AT&T HTC One (M8) at http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8 which would be a good starting place. I suggest you post your question with all relevant details in the friendly Q&A forum there at http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help where the experts familiar with your device will be best able to guide you. Until then, if you're worried about the "Stagefright" vulnerability, you can simply configure your Hangouts SMS/MMS settings to NOT "Auto retrieve MMS Messages" (assuming that you use Hangouts as your default SMS/MMS app) and avoid downloading MMS media files from unknown senders.
Good luck!

Thanks! I posted over there. I'm glad I can disable the pre-fetching. I heard that the M8 will be getting Android M (I think that's the next version?), so having a working recover is still going to be nice

[Q] Root HTC One ST (T528t) China Mobile carrier

Dear All,
I've recently purchased an HTC ONE ST with Android 4.0.4, which I believe it's only sold in China. I would truly appreciate any help in order to be able to root my device. I like it all in all, but in Chinese devices/Android it's not possible to use many apps, especially Google Play, which has way more and better apps than the local AnZhi (which is not bad itself).
Here's my phone's Software specs:
Android version: 4.0.4
HTC Sense version: 4.1
HTC Sense version: 4.1
ROM version: 1.24.1403.2 (Tue Nov 27 xxxxxx 2012)
Software number: 1.0.0.T528t
HTC SDK API level: 4.25
HTC Extension version: HTCExtension_403_1_GA_26
Kernel version: 3.0.8+-gb21afcb [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT
Baseband version: 0.11.w1233p2.013.23-553.13.03.01
Build number: 1.24.1403.2 CL130246 release-keys
Browser version: WebKit/534.30
If my HTC does not apply as ONE S, then I apologize for the trouble. And if you can help, I'll be forever grateful.
Cheers to all, and Happy Holidays

I'm in the same situation. No Google apps on the phone and tried to install Google Play Store manually and although it would install it wouldn't run. I figure it must have something to do with Google and China not getting along too well - perhaps some pernicious China Mobile software preventing the installation of anything that would make the phone useful?
Has anyone had any luck?
To root this device, first you need unlock the bootloader, then you can use the tool from here.
To install Google Play and other Google services, you can do it by copy the APKs to system/app then modify permissions, owner and group.
Can't download zip file

First you need to unlock the bootloader following instructions from the Htcdev.com website.
Goto htcdev.com and click unlock bootloader -> Get started.
Select Htc One as your device and proceed, you will be asked to login or create an account in case you don't have one.
You need to acknowledge that you have accepted the terms and conditions first.
The instructions on how to unlock the bootloader are then shown to you, follow that step by step guide and you will have an unlocked bootloader at the end.
You may need to flash a recovery on to your device, don't remember if this was quite necessary but for my case I flashed the recovery i have attached here with fastboot.
You need to download GAPPS For ICS 4.0.4(haven't attached any link for this but please look around) you will get a zip file which you will copy to your phone's SD card.
Reboot into recovery and choose update zip from SD card, browse for it and apply the update!
Note: Not really sure whether its necessary to update the ROM but I did it for my case because I was basically trying many things out.

I did not load the above recover.img file .. no recovery is installed (twrp.cwm .. Touch) .. please help .. there is no gapps package .. root is on the device ..

[Completed] Support for TSD I9200

I recently got a hold of this phone and I would like to change its Android version. Any MODs and ROOTs available?
Model: I9200
Android Version: 4.1.4
Baseband version: MT6589TQuad-Core
Kernel version: 3.0.8 [email protected] #1
Build number : Z9_20140318.104754
Hardware version: MT6589T V1.2.0
Added all this data since I never worked with a clone.
Hi there!
There seems to be no info on that phone on XDA. So you'll have to post your questions in our general Q&A section. Perhaps someone there will know something about your device.

Hello again.
We cannot provide technical support nor can other members reply to your posts here on XDA Assist. In your previous Assist thread, you said it was a "Z3", but if it's not a Sony Xperia Z3, you should ask your question with all relevant details, especially the exact phone make and model, in the general Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help in the hope that someone familiar with your device might be able to help/.
Once again, good luck!
EDIT: Member has now posted in the suggested area. Thread closed.

[Completed] Updating OS on a Visual Land VL-107?

Hello. I'm not sure if this is a good place to ask, but at this point, it can't really get much worse. I know that this is a good, reliable site, and I figured that if anyone could help me, they'd be here.
I got a VL-107 (Visual Land Prestige 7) the other day and it's been a nightmare. I can't use Pandora because it crashes constantly, I can't use my favorite texting app because it freezes and crashes the moment I start typing, I can't use Snapchat because "my device isn't compatible". I spent several hours yesterday just getting the Play Store installed and working.
I suspect that the OS is the main problem (4.1.1, but I've never seen such a horrible Android OS, so I don't know if it's clean), and I'd like to update to a more recent Android version (hopefully 4.4.2 or so). I've seen a lot of stuff talked about, like Clockwork Mod, something called LiveSuit, etc but the most recent .img file I've seen was I believe 4.0.3, so obviously that's not what I'm going for.
In some places (maybe tabletroms), I've seen talk of people being able to make modifications by treating their VL-107s as "Allwinner tablets", but I didn't fully understand whether that would still be valid. I'm willing to do some experimentation with updating if need be, since at this point I basically consider the tablet as good as bricked.
I have a basic understanding of installing ROMs, and my tablet is rooted. There are no system updates available.
Specs (I don't fully understand these, so go easy on me):
Model Number: VL-107
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband Version: inet1.0_20121016
Kernel Version: 3.0.8+, [email protected] #19, Fri Jun 21 14:04:01 CST 2013

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
Based on the kernel version, looks like you have been upgraded to something custom already, and it's buggy. You may want to go back to 4.0.3 for some stability. At that point, some of the failed apps you tried may start working (assuming they don't have a minimum requirement of JellyBean or KitKat).
I would, check out this thread, it's the best place where your device experts can be found:
> General discussion > Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking > Creating a Backup/Recovery/Dump
Note, in order to post there, you will need to have an XDA account.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks a lot, I found out that I'm registered already so I'm going to head over to that board right now and see what I can find. I'm happy to go back to an older version if it means a working tablet.

[Completed] Older rooted s4 needs refreshing

I have a galaxy s4 that I rooted long long ago. It's now acting crappy and problematic and I would like to refresh it by wiping everything and starting from scratch (basically as I would on a PC with a fresh reinstall of windows). Have been looking for any information on this but haven't had luck searching. Figured I might get advice here. Where should I look for guidance with this?
I think this is the thread I followed to root it originally. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172
