[Q] Need help with External microSD Slot

Hello, i just purchased a xoom from a friend ,i am new to the tablet , and i know its been out for over a year now.
from what ive been reading on its release day the external micro SD slot wasnt working, then it got fix in time .
my xoom is Rooted running the folowing,
CynogenMOD V.9 -NAPSHOT- wingray
which i believe is the latest ROM of its kind .
somehow i still cant get the SD slot to work or appear using a file manager app.
Can anyone help please ?
much appreciate it
Have you tried unmounting and remounting the sd card a couple times through settings>storage? Are you sure the sd card is formatted? I have had trouble with astro file manager recognizing ext sd card, well actually it never has, so i just usedsdcardxd if I need to move something to and from.

well the same SD card i put in there i also would use on my phone (Galaxy Note) and all my movies and music shows up perfectly, so i doubt it has to do with formating it . ?? idk ..?
also when i go to Setting>Storage what i see is
Internal Storage total space(28GB) then the break down on how its being distributed and SD card with its total space (14GB) with 5GB available , which idk what that is if i really dont have anything inserted there..and it gives me the option to unmount ..
am i looking at all this wrong ? my music wont show on Play Music*
i'll try another file manager and see what happens .
I would try unmounting it and remounting through settings storage, maybe reboot it and first thing you do is that.... when I first rooted and rommed my xoom, I had a couple goofy things like that happen with reading my sd card( I am on EOS), even had it show that I had four copies of the same song every song, which I didn't, persistently unmounting remounting, and rebooting seemed to fix it, and haven't had issues since... as for file managers, if you find one that looks at your external sd card, let me know, I haven't found any yet, but havent looked that hard... again I just use sdcardxd
after putting in the memory card, its a good idea to reboot. It should show up.

holy crap! it worked !
a simple unmount and mount, just took my frustration away ! freaking weird, i guess im used to where on my phone it simply does a media scan when it know a microSD was inserted .
Play Music naturally recognized all my music now
Dice Player Ad - i simply just changed the directory and found my movies.
you are the man bro ! THANK YOU !

I use ES File Explorer and it sees my external card without a problem. You just have to go to the /mnt/ folder and tap external1

[Q] files not showing up after remoiunting the Ext SD Card

Hallo friends, Please help,
Sony Xperia Tipo (single) . Android 4.0.4, Rooted.
1) I used SD maid app to clean system, as usual. Have done it before too.
2) I unmounted the External SD Memory card, in the storage settings.
3) And Remounted it after few seconds.
4) Now the files aren't showing in the walkman. No photos from the memory card showing in the gallery. No any file.
5) The Storage settings show that the Used space and the empty space correctly. But no colored patterns and details of the files.
6) The Root Explorer shows all the files.
7) Tried unmounting, remounting, restarting phone, restarting phone with battery out, nothing worked.
7) The phone connected directly shows only those files that were added newly after this incident (for e.g. one bluetooth transfered file)
8) The memory card connected separately through card reader shows all files.
How to solve it?
Thank you very much.
See you.

There is an easy fix for this. Through your file explorer, open one song on the sd with the walkman app and one picture with the album app. Then reboot. All your files should pop-up now, although it sometimes takes a few reboots to trigger everything.
Hope that helps.
Mats
Sent from my C1505 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Hallo, thank you Mats,
Although when I viewed the files through Root Explorer, I also played, and viewed all types of media files and restarted. Its still the same. But, Storage settings also doesnt even calculate the files. it directly shows used space, and remaining space, the bar is blank. I will try the trick you explained with several boots now. Or else, I will have to backup memory card, format the card through the phone and re-transfer.
I think the SD maid took away something that was responsible for showing contents in the android system.
Thank you very much ))

Flixster

I'm hoping someone else has encountered this problem and found a workaround...
I've downloaded Flixster, logged in and accessed my collection of films/tv series. When I got to download them it gives an option of download to phone or download to SD card. I selected SD card but it then says that this is not supported on my device. According to Flixster's website, all Android devices on 4.3 and above should have this facility working. Is there anything I can do to get them on my SD card?
Unless you have it installed as a system app it will not be able to write to SD card.
This is a KK feature where only system apps can write to sd card
Choose internal memory then copy it over using a system explorer, or do it via a card reader in your PC or root and apply the write to SD card fix

Download it to the phone, then transfer it to your PC via the USB cable, then to the SDcard using the USB cable

By transfer "it" do you mean the app and then transfer the app to my SD card via USB? Or do you mean the movie and then transfer that to my SD card via USB?
You have the app installed, it needs to be on the phone.
Download the movie to internal memory and then move that about.

You'll have to excuse me for being a noob, can't quite figure out how this works. I plugged my phone into my laptop, went into internal storage and cut the files from the phone and then put then pasted them onto the SD card. However, now when I go into Flixster it doesn't recognise them as being on the device and although they are listed in the Movies app, it can't play the files.
Can anyone help on this? My 16Gb internal storage is running really low, could really do with getting the Flixster files on my SD card if possible

Though I am not familiar with this Flixter thing, but ones you have downloaded and saved your movie in your SDCARD, why are you sticking to Flixter to play it? You can use your device's movie player or any other 3rd party software that supports the format to play the movie.

They are digital codes for DVDs/Blu Rays I have purchased and have to be redeemed via Flixster. Once redeemed you have the option of streaming it via wi-fi or downloading it to the device. If you download to the device it stays within the Flixster app (they ar enot playable by other media players even though they are mp4 files - guessing they must have some sort of Flixster encoding or DRM). There is an option on Flixster to download them to SD card but it won't let me do it on the Xperia as it doesn't have permission to write to the SD card.
When I connected my phone to my laptop, I found the files within the internal storage and manually pasted them into the SD card but after doing so, Flixster no longer recognised them as being on the device and other players were still unable to play the files.

I am sure you have already checked the settings in Flixster application, to see if it gives option to read & play contents from SDCARD?
There is some application to convert users apps to system apps. Not sure if even after converting this can be moved to SD or not.

Yeah unfortunately not, just an option where to download to and when you select SD card and then download, the Xperia won't let me.
Would I have to be rooted in order to convert to system apps?
I'm on a Xperia Z3 Tablet and hit the same problem. I've found a way around this which works. The thing you have to bear in mind using this is you cannot download to the SD card directly.
Close Flixster
Using File Commander (or similar) on the device, copy Android>data>net.flixster.android to the same location on the SD card.
Note: Using Windows or similar doesn't give you the same rights to create/modify some of the folders
Start Flixster and change the storage location to the SD card.
Restart Flixtser. You will now see the location under the devices saying On SD Card.
I remove the ones from the internal storage once satisfied.
When downloading a new addition, change the location back to Internal Storage, let it download and then move that across and obviously change the storage location afterwards.
It works for me well on a 32gb card and saves precious internal storage space.

[Q] Problem moving apps to external SD card on SM-G355H

Hi all,
On my 4.4.2 Samsung SM-G355h, and since few monthes, i could no more move any of my apps to the external SD card.
These are symptoms:
One folder on the SD card, called Android, can not be deleted, no matter what's the way i try to do it (directrly from the phone, from computer through USB, putting the SD card on other phone ... )
Some time, I could not delete nor move any file on the SD card. I have to restart the phone, and to do it on the first few seconds of the system start up.
On the apps list, and when i look into the apps proprieties, the system could not get the size of the apps. It remains "loading"
When i try to move an application to SD card, the system remains hours with the indication: "moving to SD Card" and nothing happens.
I have tried to reset my phone and then download and reinstall all apps. Same problem.
So, can any one tell me how to fix this problem ?
Thanks

First it could be update related/flash related.
Some versions of stock firmwares contains weird "bootloader" stuffs that prevents rw access to sdcard even if u install the sdCardFix for KK. Sometime it works sometimes not.
And the second is you have to have SdCard KitKatWorkground enabled.
Check : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-core/help/copy-to-ssd-samsung-galaxy-core-2-sm-t3033178.
The /Android folder on extSdCard contains /data and /obb files that have been moves/installed to sdCard, if u delete the folder, U won't be able to run the app from your phone !

[Completed] Unable to add albums to SD card

Hello, newbie here.
I have an LG L41C running 4.4.2, 8 GB sd card installed with 4.5G available on the card.
Whenever I try to add an album in the "Gallery" section and save it to the SD memory, I am getting an error message "not enough space on sd card. To free up space, delete unused files". This makes no sense since I have over half of the memory available on the card. I even deleted a couple of albums, and the phone will only allow me to create *1* album before I get the error message again....
I unmounted the sd card and created new albums in the "Gallery" using my laptop. When I re-insert the card and reboot the phone, none of the new albums created via my laptop will appear.....
What am I missing here?
Thanks!!

Hello,
It seems like a corrupt SD card? or you may clear cache from your gallery app and retry.

Didn't know I could selectively clear cache from the gallery app. How do I accomplish this?
Thanks for the reply.
