SHV-E120S ; S2 HD LTE Display no IMEI

HI Team,
I bought the Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE aka: SHV-E120S.
Strangely I see that while entering the code *#06# to display the IMEI, it never shows up. Inside the battery compartment though I find that there is a s/n & IMEI printed.
I also checked in the <Settings> <About Phone> <Status>, the IMEI does not show up there as well.
I am getting a feeling that the seller who sold the phone to me might have tried unlocking the phone for my use in India. I am not able to get a proper answer here as well as the phone box was sealed.
Can I please have some help here from the forum to understand how to rectify this or what I could do now
I am not sure if I would be able to use in India as well as the Govt mandates IMEI and I believe this is same in all countries.

I was worried about the same thing. I bought mine from an auction on ebay. But it came preloaded with all sorts of Korean apps. The company said they would take it back, but I would have to ship it back to HK. T-Mobile was able to offer me service without an IMEI. Works Great! Now I am going to root it so I can get rid of all the Korean stuff.

I just pulled the trigger on a Nexus 7 32GB and I want to sell my LNIB Nexus S i9020T to help pay for the N7. I have its original box with all original accessories, including the original screen protectors still on the screen. This phone was never activated, nor was the T-Mobile card ever taken out of the box. So, I have no clue if this means it is unlocked or locked to T-Mobile. I assume this also means the ESN is considered clean, or is that IMEI?
I would like to put it on eBay as "New Other" LNIB, in Mint condition. But I noticed other sellers are advertising theirs as "Unlocked". Is there a way I can tell if this is unlocked also? Or can I unlock this easily? Is it worth more as unlocked? I have no history on this device as it was purchased by my sister in law (ex) brand new, and she was going to give it to her son Jason last year but instead he got in serious trouble (with the law) and she decided he was not deserving of it anymore. So she gave it to me as payment for working on her computer. I was the first one to ever open the box and play around with it. However, I simply do not need another mobile device laying around here unused.
So, how would you list this if you had it for sale? unlocked or t-mobile only? How do I know the ESN is clean? just because the phone never had a sim card inserted? I never sold a Android device before, so kinda worried that I might get the description wrong if I list it as unlocked with clean esn (or is it IMEI?). Any tips would be appreciated.

Pick up SIM card from another carrier and see, that's the simplest way to find out. If u get message for network unlock code than it's locked on T-Mo. Originally, i9023 or i9020 were sold unlocked, but i am not so sure about i9020A or i9020T versions (AT&T and T-Mo).

Very good idea. Maybe I can try my current AT&T sim card from my other phone? By the way, I just noticed that when the device boots, the boot screen shows a "Lock" under the word Google. The lock is an icon and is in the Unlocked position. I just now noticed it, lol... I wonder if that means what I think it means... I will still try the sim card though. Thanks

All Nexus S are unlocked. HOWEVER, they are frequency limited (tri-band vs Galaxy Nexus penta-band).
This means that on some carriers, depending the frequency they use, you might not get 3G or signal at all if they don't operate a 2G service.
The lock you see when booting just means it's fastboot unlocked, so you can flash custom recoveries, roms and so on. Nothing to do with the network.

IMEI would be correct in this case. ESN is generally only used with non-GSM phones (Sprint, etc), AFAIK.

Ah, thanks for the clarification on that icon. OK, so it seems the word "Unlocked" is just there to let people know it may or may not work in 3G on there own network due to frequency differences. Gotcha.
Now I feel confident I can list this with an accurate description. Thank you!

Thanks for the clarification on that. Yeah, there is a clear IMEI sticker on the box and a IMEI sticker under the battery. I assume since this phone has never had a sim inserted the IMEI on this device can be used anywhere legally, right?

To my knowledge, inserting a sim into a carrier unlocked phone doesn't suddenly lock it (legally, contractually or via software).

That's what I thought to. However, I am just making sure because, if I sold this, and then found out the buyer could not use it I would be liable for making it right (I hate refunding). My ratings at eBay is still a perfect 5.0 out of 5.0 at 100% positive feedback and I do not want to give someone any reason what so ever to give me negative feedback of any kind. lol I guess I am being overly cautious.

So I've been going through a saga of getting the right phone and even through googling its hard to decipher exactly what i need given my experience.
I'll provide some details and where I'm at or at the bottom i'll give a TLDR.
I live in the US have AT&T and I want a rooted S7.
Got a S7 for xmas, after doing some research found out that model isn't rootable (SM-G930).
Returned it got one I found was rootable SM-G930W8, said unlocked, and I saw on a few resources it was compatible with AT&T.
Rooted the w8 beautifully, got my new sim card and no signal.
Put in #7465625*638*# and said "Carrier Locked"
Worked with an unlock service, they looked up my phone to tell me exactly what it was, have the code on deck.
Enter code, crickets but possible my sim card doesn't work or i need to try on the stock rom.
Got a new new sim card, no signal. Erased my root and went stock data wipe, no signal.
Tried my best to find stock firmware that lined up with the info the unlock company gave, no signal.
Now, given all that information, can anyone recommend me a model? Just want it to be rootable and work with AT&T.
I'd appreciate any comments on my experience too because clearly i messed up somewhere or the phones sim card reader was busted etc.
TL;DR : I'm USA & AT&T. I want an s7 that is rootable. Had an episode with my previous attempts and would love a guru's advice.

The sm-g930w8 is the same model sold by all carriers in Canada.
Does the phone have a clean imei? Sim card works in another phone?

The old s7 has been sent back so I can't really answer that question.
Nor can I answer the sim card works, because i dont have an extra phone that uses that type.
I did go to the AT&T store to ask if they could check my sim card with an extra phone they have.
Apparently they don't have extra phones ready for that type of nature??? (wtf???)
So I got a new sim card activated from them to see if the s7 would take it, it didn't.

Still just sounds carrier unlocked to me, what service were you using to try unlock it?
Otherwise the G930F is the international model and easiest to mod.
Only concern you'd have is the US uses a different network standard to the rest of the world, so your 3G/4G won't work as well on a non-US device.

So to give more details.
I installed the Superman Rom, put the # in to input the carrier code. At the top, in all caps, above the input for the code "CARRIER LOCKED".
Would the superman rom mess with that? or show bad info? not sure
What i do know is that i factory reset the phone, tried the # to get the prompt didn't work.
Tried a few alternatives, same one with the actual network code in it, the 1101, both didn't work.
The company is "Unlock Scope"

Is the imei of the w8 clean?
The w8 should work with at&t when unlocked.

So I'm not 100% sure but..
When I was originally using the unlock service they needed the original carrier information, which I didn't know, so they asked for the IMEI so they could look it up.
They emailed a full list of details on it and I'd think that it would of been flagged in that process, assuming though.

So the w8 is now unlocked through the unlocking service?

Checked and it came clear.

Was the phone sold as being unlocked? Is the seller able to give you any carrier information about he phone?
Are you able to change the csc by entering this into the dialler: *#272*Phone’s IMEI Here# ?

Yessir! I liked what I saw. My price range is 300-350$ and I'm seeing those types of deals on Ebay so i'm gonna keep going until I get what i want.
I'm open to other suggestions too.

You'll have to decide first if you want a Qualcomm or exynos phone.

From what I remember, when I researched before Exynos was the choice.
After some light research I came with the same conclusion.
You thoughts? I want to be able to root it and use it on AT&T network if those factor in.

I know the 930w8 is an exynos and should support att frequencies.

That is weird because I got one for a friend, got a network unlock code,and it works perfectly on T-Mobile and all carriers in Canada.
Maybe there was something wrong with the phone you received? Where did your phone come from?

Identify my phone, please

Hello...i recently purchased a unlocked phone on a online shopping site, hoping it was a good deal. It has no brand markings on front, back, or inside. The only visible info i have is model no. T10. I've gotten several possible names, from google and other sites, but none of those who suggested what i have has a image that matches what i have. The manual that came with it only basically shows how to insert the battery and sim cards, and how to turn it on. My cell carrier says that from the IMEI numbers (2) i gave them, it is compatible, but i need to purchase a new, updated sim kit for activation. It has the 5.1 marshmallow, and i would like to see it rooted and upgraded to 8.1 oreo. I installed the dev check app, and i feel pretty good with what they say, but still, the images do not match. Can anybody help me and maybe ease my mind? Thank you.

It is said that checking IMEI number will help you find your phone brand, model and other device details.
Go to some IMEI number lookup website to have a try.

Help understanding the S7 that I am holding

I purchased an S7 from a friend of a friend that was 'Google Locked' for $10 figuring that I could get the lock off pretty easy and that it was worth the price. This S7 was of the AT&T variant. I tried to use the Combination File to get the lock of the phone and I bricked it. I guess its considered a brick, it had the SBL Error that I have read about in the forum. It looks like some users have been able to recover from it but I couldn't. I purchased 2 EDL cables from online and no luck. At this point, I feel like I was in way too far to give up. I am pretty good with phones and computers and I always accept a challenge. The next thing that I did was purchased a new motherboard for the phone from ebay. i paid $15 and it was guaranteed to have a clean IMEI or my money back. Now its installed, the phone is running, with my Google account. The phone has T-Mobile bloatware on it. In about device, the model is SM-G930T. When I lookup the IMEI it says its an SM-G930F. What happend?

As far as I understand it, the G930T is a US snapdragon based model, whilst the G930F is the international model based on the exynos chip.
I think this means that either:
the motherboard you have is actually a G930F board, and it's had G930T firmware flashed to it. I'm not sure if it's actually possible to do that and have a working phone, as they're essentially different devices.
or it's a G930T motherboard, which had a blocked IMEI number, and has had the IMEI overwritten with a clean one taken from a dead G930F board.

I used the Samsung Info app and it said that it's a Snapdragon. I'm curious though because on one hand, I might have a rootable device. On the other hand, I am scared to start flashing random stuff because this whole situation started because I tried to downgrade the firmware and got a brick.

I think it's likely that it is the snapdragon version if the info app says that. what does cpu-z say about it?
another thing you could do is go to imei.info and enter the IMEI number. once it's checked the IMEI and given you the basic info, select CHECK SN / WARRANTY / CARRIER.
that might take a little while, but it is free. have a look at the serial number that comes up. if the serial number associated with that IMEI number is different from the one reported in the about section of your settings menu, then it has had the IMEI number modified.
you can also see info like what country it was intended to be sold in, and what network it was locked to. if these are anything other than US T mobile, then that's pretty strong evidence that it's been given the IMEI of another device.
in which case you can probably go ahead and treat it like it's what it says it is, a snapdragon model.
