Hi Guys,
I know this is a terrible question to ask, but in my experience playing with custom ROMs on a whole range of devices, the answers are usually helpful:
What is the best custom ROM for the nvidia shield tablet at the moment, and why?
I think a lot of people are asking this question at the moment due to the recall and the possibility of keeping their original device working by installing a custom ROM.

Hey. Ive done a few mods and upgrades already, but one thing has always stumped me about android os and apps. Can anyone explain the variations between the different roms? I understand that the scale and power difference between say a phone and a tablet cause there to be differences, but why is there such gulfs separating to almost identical devices? Take, as a possibly poor example, a yarvik 10.1" tablet and an almost identical viewsonic 10.1" tab. what would stop the viewsonic roms from working on the yarvik? Apologies if this has already been answered somewhere else, I haven't managed to find a similar thread to answer this for me.
Thanks

The main reason the ROMs aren't able to be used on both devices is because they have a different chipset and hardware. And ROMs are designed to work with the specific hardware of a specific device. The only way to get them to work on other devices is to port the ROM you want to that device (Porting ROMs ranges from pretty straightforward to extremely hard).

Before I start working on a project like this, is there anyone that would want a custom rom for a GoogleTV style device? GoogleTV falls short in so many ways, and I'm curious if anyone is interested in fixing it.
Google TV rom
I have been looking for a rom to be able to do more with Google TV. So count me in...... I have the Sony NSZ-GT1 UNIT.

As far as usability is concerned I'm thinking that it should be full Android, but with the ability to float any app. On screen keyboards and a few other fixups.
The main reason I've never considered buy one of these devices as an option is that you're at the mercy of the manufacturer to keep the software up with the times. If you're able to build custom ROMs that would change everything. Good luck!

I would love a custom (and Rooted) ROM for my Sony GoogleTV box.
Hi y'all!
Just got my shield. Disappointed with performance after ota. Wipe and reset on original rom did not resolve all of the issues.
Not familiar with the xda roms for this device. I want root, functioning camera, nivida game streaming. And lag free!
Free 4 all! What is best?

Cheers!
Functionality more important than android version! (at least 4 me).
Nobody knows?
Common community where r ya?
Maybe read the appropiate threads and judge by yourself?
It's not like there's 32 Nougat roms out there anyway
Nvidia apps = stock ROM.
good luck with that one, i haven't been able to find that on any rom for the shield tablet nougat or not. Other than stock based ones like hyperstock(which is what i use on my shield tab). I updated to nougat off of hyperstock mm but restored right back when i couldn't get nethunter to work. there doesn't seem to be very much going on with the shield tablet even with the recent update to nougat which sucks.
I'm kind of new to all this, but I understand that the entire concept of a GSI is for it to be usable by everyone, exceptall the ones I've found like Broject Blaze are sorted by phone brands and mostly MIUI phones too.
I would love if I could get some guidelines for choosing them in the future and hopefully some recommendations too.
I use a Tecno pouvoir 3+ (Tecno LB8a)
I'd also love some custom ROMs too anyone knows of any so I could have choices
Thanks!
Hi there,
I noticed that there isn't as much activity for custom Roms for tablets as there are for smartphones. I wonder why. Is it because there aren't as many tablets as smartphones and therefore there is less interest in building custom roms?
I wanted to buy a tablet for my mother ( Chuwi HiPad Max) and noticed that the manufacturer doesn't have a good reputation for updating their devices (just few security patches and that's it), so I looked here on XDA with the hope of some custom roms but couldn't find any (not only for this device which is fairly new, but for most tablets even of other brands).
Should I buy a specific tablet (not more expensive than 200€/$) that is known to have more roms? Do you have any recommendation? The tablet will be used for watching Netflix/Prime Videos/YouTube, emailing and internet surfing.
Thank you
Purchase the 8-inch Amazon Fire HD 10 ( 2021 ) tablet ( cheapest one ) or the 10-inch Lenovo Smart Tab P10 tablet: you can get both on Amazon.

Custom rom development is based on people using the tablet and being interested in making other custom roms for their tablet. Either those who are developers don't have a need for a tablet or there are developers without an incentive (money) to develop a custom rom. Developing a custom rom takes time, even months. Why should someone invest months without pay? Thus the lack of custom roms. Now you could try your luck with generic system images. Those are kind of a custom rom. Made to run on an unlimited number of devices, smartphones and tablets included.
