Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Developer Edition 4.4.4 vzw
I use FM pro with root option checked.
I noticed that APN was not editable or add'able. Then looked into ways of fixing. I read somewhere to use BuildProp Editor and make a backup of build.prop, then edit it.
I installed BP editor and tried to make the backup, it failed. So I thought maybe it's not getting access, so I tried making it a system app, then tried the backup again, failed again. Then I made it a user app again and tried the option in FM pro to make system folders writable, then tried the BP backup again, success. At that point I just decided to back out of BP editor and check with FM pro to find the backup file, upon entering I found only the backup file on emulated 0, When normally it shows both 0 and legacy within emulated. I couldn't find legacy at all freaked out and deleted the backup made by BP, then I reloaded FM pro, still not showing legacy, got panicky at that point because lots of stuff is GONE off to visit Elvis and all the greats. Now I'm in the black, I try uncheck in the root and writable option in FM pro and legacy along with 0 are showing together again with matching files as is the norm, rechecked options and poof GONE again, only an empty 0 dir.
Reboot did nothing, runs as normal, boots and goes good. No noticeable issues with any apps or system. But I'm dumbfounded as to WTF is happening here. I made no changes to the actual build.prop. Also I noticed the re'entering BP Editor the backup was not showing up that's when I checked into FM Pro to find said backup, saw it and deleted it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
Sorry to hear about your trouble but fortunately there is an XDA area dedicated to the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge at http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge . Because your issue might be related to root and permissions matters specific to the VZW variant, I suggest you post your question with all relevant details in the Verizon subforum there at http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/verizon-note-edge-android-development where the experts familiar with your device will be best able to guide you.
Good Luck!

Thank you, I did post in that area, and no hits yet. I posted here in hopes that it would get more attention to a possibly wide scale issue in newer models of android OS, as only a few people have this particular variant of the device. I'm not sure but it's probably not carrier specific.
Again thank you for your time in reading this and would be greatfull for any further technical input you or others may have.

No member can respond to you in this XDA Assist area as explained in the "Purpose of XDA Assist" thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2764768.
Because Verizon devices often have restrictions, such as locked bootloaders, not found on other models, the VZW Forum might be your best bet, but you might need to wait longer than a mere six or seven hours before anybody finds time to comment on your posts.

Hi, I first want to thank anyone whom attempts to figure this out and to all the people here who are always helpful and take time out of their own life to do this. The problem I am having is that when I try to go to settings/Language & Input/Text-to-speech output I get Unfortunately, Settings has stopped. I can only tap ok at this point the window with same message pops up exactly 3 times then I am back at the Langauge & Input submenu. I have also noticed that any app that uses tts simply does not work, basically the tts is not initializing at all. I am currently using a LG L90 D415 with Lollipop xTreme Rom posted by MicroMod777. I have downloaded Ivona tts from the play store and I cannot change my tts engine since the tts output settings menu will not open. I am trying to figure out if their could be some sort of workaround for this, such as changing it thru a shell, I do currently have root on the device as well. If anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them...willing to try about anything as I need this feature to function, I may have to flash a whole different rom, which sucks bc I have so many apps etc that I would rather not download again if it can be helped.....thanks a million.

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
Sorry to hear about your trouble. From your description, there is a very good chance that the issue is with your ROM or modifications you may have made to that ROM (such as deleting a required system file or framework). We cannot provide tech support here on XDA Assist, but we can suggest that you ask your question with all relevant details in your ROM's thread, probably at http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/development/rom-l90-d415-lollipop-xtreme-v1-0-4-25-t3092813 where the developer or others familiar with the ROM may be able to suggest a simple fix. Note that if you have to reflash your ROM, you can still save and restore most of your apps and data easily if you first make a good backup with Titanium Backup or a similar tool.
Good luck!

Ya I think it is the rom itself, and as my luck would have it the creator is no longer working on it....so I am assuming I am outta luck here, I guess I could still make a backup of apps only but the issue I have is this...I am using link2sd and the app data is stored on a 2nd ext4 partition on my extsd card due to the fact I was running low on internal space, and this is the only workaround for that problem since moving apps to the actual external sdcard was removed I think with ics, so maybe I can get it to work still but I doubt it. As far as deleting things, I never did that...the tts has not worked properly from day 1 of the flash so I can only assume something is missing.
Hello guys! I'm in a bit of an odd situation here.
What is happening is that my Huawei Ascend Mate 7 has files, which are physically written in the internal storage, but with no way to access them.
Here's the picture: (can't post links...)
i.imgur.com/jyEUiSX.png
Here you can see that the disk usage analyzer detects those files, but when listing all files, it doesn't show them... causing the results to not add up.
Here's what caused it:
I was flashing an unofficial CM11 (the first one available for the AM7) that seemingly created a different partition for data storage, instead of using the one that the stock rom was using before. I moved my files there, but decided to restore my backup of the stock rom. But that cut access to that new partition completely, though the files themselves weren't deleted.
If anyone has a clue on how I can get access back to these files, input is greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I have a note 3 neo, 7505 and i updated the firmware. It was all working good for a week then i was listening to soundcloud to sleep and the phone restarted, since then the phone doesn't have an imei and says to insert sim card, and of course unknown modem..
Anyway, i created a backup of the efs using twrp, i have tried gazillion ways to restore the backup and gazillion manual ways too. Going to stock recovery... trying to copy manually the nvdata and all but it doesnt resolve. The files are placed there, i can see it in the shell but the thing just wont work!
i don't know how to proceed to this, i don't know if its a hardware fault, had it been that, shouldnt have i gotten the efs corrupted or some issue? could it be that the hardware itself is damaged all of a sudden? i dont think so, i pretty much think its the efs and yet i cant restore it?
should i attach my efs folder if someone can look through hex editor or logs to suggest a possible solution?
Thanks a lot and also i have search through and proceeded with many solutions and after that created a thread. hope someone can help.
P.S. I just noticed the serial number can be seen in phone status, so apparently its reading NVdata? or is it getting it from elsewhere? how to test if its a hardware fault?

The point is that TWRP creates faulty EFS backups on many devices which can't be restored properly.
There are different backup solutions (e.g. EFS Pro) confirmed working which may help you prevent future issues. I prefer the manual backup using adb shell or terminal emulator:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0pXX of=/storage/SdCard/efs.img bs=4096
(XX needs to be replaced with the model specific partition number as they use different partition tables)
Restore:
dd if=/storage/SdCard/efs.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0pXX bs=4096
thanks LS.xd, but i guess i have a pretty solid backup as i did create backup various ways, some were corrupt, but one that i working with has nvdata and every other file along with imei pretty intact....
i can open it up with winrar, and open the nvdata with hexeditor, i was wondering if i could confirm some way that the back up is actually 100% solid?
wondering if the partition's aren't aligned. I don't know for sure if EFS folder in the root directory is the same as being pointed by /mmcblkp03/platform/by-name/EFS ?
i mean they should be the same thing, its just a redirection right?
what should i be doing now? the baseband is unknown and the imei wont just work, waste the phone? or it could be done via some boxes or some other process?
there must be a starting point? isn't there some way i could use a generic imei and just any modem? then i could replace nvdata may be? right now, i'm installing various versions of stock firmware and repeatedly placing old efs data in various ways and i kind of turning hopeless. first i lost a nexus then i bought a g4 last month, gave me a bootloop just a week after, gone dead. then i bought the n3n and now this..... i mean 3 phones in a row..... i really hope this could work..

So you got some non TWRP made EFS backup, too? You can list your partitions using shell:
[email protected]:/ # cat /proc/emmc
You can use the dd command once you know the layout. Backups not generated manually may only be restored with the specific app/version and are probably not compatible using other restore methods. For my OnePlus 3 EFS backup can generated fine using TWRP but restoring it screws up the partition. Manually created image works fine. As I don't have a Note 3 Neo I don't know how it behaves for your device.
any idea how would i go on about inspecting the nvdata.bin? i'm in hex editor trying to see something resembling imei but its just so much garbage except a few lines.
i can't be sure whether its corrupt or not...
in efs -> imei -> a file called mps_code.dat i open it up in hex editor, and it has only 3 characters.....
is it possible i could initially use a generic imei and modem and later on populate it with actual somehow or just keep using generic one for now until i find a better solution, using hex editor or something...?
there are some tutorials on qualcom.. none for exynos but it should happen the same way, somewhere in nvdata, you place the imei ... and it would be generic method for most exynos devices...
i wish someone could guide me to that...
also can it be restored via "boxes"?

After 3 years I had to retire my HTC One S. I flashed roms and firmwares up to 3-4 times a week without having any issues. One sunny day some update bricked then nvdata. I spent a bunch of hours trying to restore it in different ways, extracted data from stock firmware as well as using dumps from other user's phones, as some users reported this error fixed doing so. Even when the files was identical it just did not work for me. Changing the mainboard was the only possible solution so I decided to get a new device.
All I want to say is try to restore a valid backup in a way confirmed working. If you don't have a usable backup ask in your device's forum for somebody may upload it. Or spend 100 hours messing around with hex editors until you reach then point where you realize its cheaper to switch the device as wasting a year's holidays browsing the internet for some solution.
Please let me know if this is the wrong section for this question.
So I have a rooted phone that was originally on straight talk, i had to flash a verizon firmware to it cus i couldnt find straight talk firmware, so now technically it's a SM-G930V and i was using roehmsoft ram expander to try getting more ram from my SD card. Well, it said that I need to check my card's read and write perms, so i looked around on google and i tried setting the perms inside and i made platform.xml rw--r--r (644)
when i opened root browser it says my root directory is 85% filled (0.7gb / 5.00) so i figured i'd reset my phone even though i figured that wouldnt do anything, it didn't. It still says my root directory is 85%full and its making my device lag. I'm not sure what the hell I did, but I REALLY need some help, I would really appreciate it.
(by the way, I thought roehmsoft might have created the swapfile.swp in the root directory, but after a search nothing comes up, so i'm not sure if that's the problem.)

PLEASE NOTE: I welcome any member to help with further valuable information/clarification for any of my posts.
Hi, so some background, it has been a long time since I have touched custom ROMs or root access on an android device (back when the Nexus 2 released) so I don't really remember anything and know nothing about how the android environment has changed.
The reason for my post is that I was "hiding" sentimental/sensitive material in a folder associated with the Google Drive application using a file manager app (cut and paste into Drive folder) so that it wouldn't appear in Gallery scans, and when my drive app wasn't working as expected I (stupidly) uninstalled the update (can't actually uninstall the app on stock ROM) causing the folder to be wiped. Now I'm trying to find a way to recover the files but all the solutions recommended by a google search that I've tried require root and from what I know, correct me if I'm wrong, unlocking my bootloader to gain root access will wipe my internal storage which would probably defeat the whole purpose(?) of trying to recover information as it will overwrite the sectors. So does anyone know of anyway that I can recover this data from my device? I am willing to root as long as it will yield results.
tl;dr - need to recover files on stock P20 Pro (locked bootloader, no root), please help I am lost and a noob now
Thanks in advance!
P.S. This was (incorrectly) posted in the discussion forum before and I have requested it to be deleted

Stop bumping. You are simply in the wrong section. None of us has a Pro model. This is the P20-Forum. Not Pro, not lite. I can not understand why people see 3 different devices as one. Ask here. Good luck!
