Device backup not showing in restore options - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have a very frustrating problem. I have an NVIDIA Shield tablet that has been recalled due to a battery problem. I have the replacement tablet here and when I go through trying to set it up I do not see the backup of the old tablet as an available source to restore onto the new tablet.
I have verified that Android Device Manager is enabled AND that my old tablet shows up in my Google account. I can also locate the device from my Google account.
Even with all of that working, I still do not see my old tablet listed as a source to restore onto my new tablet. (I do see several other Android devices that I own in the list.)
I have attempted clearing the cache from Google Play Services but that did not work either. I also thought that maybe I was missing an update to Google Play Services but I can't seem to find it in the store.
Would appreciate any suggestions!
TIA!

you will mot see that never as google only recognise the board name and in your case google take it as you have factory reset your device and setting up on same device as both have same motherboard names and other specs.

Thanks for the reply!
I'm a bit confused on this because I DO see both tablets in the device manager in my Google account. Are the backups managed differently?

what type of back up are you talking about.

The regular automatic backup of data provided by the android device manager

it will be automatically restored if automatic backup and automatic restore are onn in backup and resetoption.
when ever you will install an app the settings and data will be automatically restored.

OK thanks!
The strange thing is that there is a list of devices to restore to the new tablet (my phone and Google TV) but the old tablet is missing.
If I understand what you are saying I should just set the new tablet up as a "new device" and all of my apps (and their data) that were on the old tablet will automatically get installed on the new tablet.

apps will not be installed automatically.
if you install app the data of app will be restoref

I was just having some issues with my restore and had to respond to this app because it frustrates me when people give such wrong responses with such confidence.
Apps will be installed with the backup and google has been doing this for years... long before this answer came out. Later they added a setting restore and the past few years it even remembers your password for certain apps that the developers have used the api.
I dont have an answer to the initial question as my issue is similar... (ironically enough my shield is showing up but not other devices i want to restore the backup from.

Setup an old device as if it were new?
I want to use a newer device to restore from, which has all apps and settings. This since my my old device does not have an app that can no longer be found in PlayStore. Is it possible to set up an old device as if it were new? I tried deleting the old device in myaccount.google, but when re-installing I can only select the old device to restore from.
thanks

[Q] Removing My Orders and My Devices form Android Market

Does anybody knows how to remove My Orders and My Devices form Android Market?
Earlier I used Desire HD. Some market application I did not used that time and off-course uninstalled them. That time those unused uninstalled also appeared onto my market account. Recently I changed my phone to Sensation but still those DHD applications are visible onto my market account. Even some of them automatically restored. I want to get rid of that by removing unappropriated stuffs.
When I used Desire HD android market's "My Devices" page showed desire HD. But now after using sensation, "My Devices" page is showing two devices.
Please help me by let me know how to remove My Orders and My Devices form Android Market?.

You can delete devices from there. I didnt even know the android market kept track of your devices until I went there a couple days ago. I saw every phone I had listed. It was weird to see my G1 listed from back in the day lol. I deleted them all except for my current Sensation.

My mistake, you are correct. I could have sworn I deleted them.
Has anyone ever figured this out?
I flash my phone a few times a month and I think it is nice that it will reinstall all your market apps but there are a LOT that I just install to try and then want them GONE forever. Has anyone ever figured this out?
Thanks,
supersobbie
PS Yes I tried to uninstall from the settings menu as well as uninstalling using the market app on the phone. But I still have "FREE" apps on my orders list from January of this year that I do not install or use.
Nope, and Google are useless as well as they didn't even know that if you look on your Google Dashboard (all account data held by Google) you can see what they backup and how large the backup is
In order to get those old apps from your previous device not to restore on your new device all you have to do is not select "automatically restore backup" check when you first setup your device. I prefer to use titanium backup anyway because I prefer a more hands on approach. Hope that helps. Just do a factory reset and make sure you don't check that option the 2nd go-around.
this problem also bugs me too. I got a new phone and it doesn't automatically install all my apps, the market only seems to want to install to old phone?
and there are apps I do not wish to install.
the market app on the phone doesn't show any apps at all.
so I have to go through the market website and manually pick the apps.
I find it hard to believe that Google haven't done proper useability testing for this scenario, it's really crap.

[Q] App Restore problem - Please Help!

I cant seem to completely restore apps after flashing a new ROM. I will put in my password at first boot and I select Restore. It starts restore and then after one or 2 installation, it starts throwing errors saying there isn't enough space on the card. I know one solution is to clear the market data and then it installs fine. However, Once the app restore errors out, there is no way to start it again. So, Is there any way this is possible? I cant install any new ROMs since my apps wont install . It used to work just fine!
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.
It is an issue with the size of the market cache. If you are simultaneously downloading too many large programs you are destined to get the "out of memory" error. I have had this on every Android phone I have owned and there is no way to get around it. Limit downloads to two or three at a time max and you should be okay. Yes once the market bombs out on restoring your apps, it is gone. But what I do is log into the Android Market on my web browser and you can see all the apps you have ever downloaded to any device under your account settings. You can then request the app download and install from the web. Just make sure your phone is on and connected to Google data. If it is not, Google will install the apps the next time your phone is logged into their servers.
Did you try APP MONSTER?

[Resolved] WOW!!! Backup and Restore!

I am just amazed. IF this has been available to samsung users or if it's a ICS function, I'm still blown away but it.
If you are having problems, and want to do the Windows thing of restarting from scratch, take advantage of the included Outstanding Backup and Restore.
I had been suggested doing the backup and restore by Samsung for my wifi connect/reconnect issue with "N" (no, it doesn't seem to have resolved it) but I was hesitant to go through the PAIN of reinstallation of all my apps (about70).
I decided to bite the bullet and reset the phone. I rooted too so I expected the worse. Well, let me say, that as I am writing this, the phone is automatically reinstalling my apps after signing in to Google and my wifi network. This restored my entire set of apps in only a few minutes (I have 50 mb internet and 5Ghz N, so the phone does my full bandwidth).
It's still rooted. A new Android ID was issued (TI offered to restore the old one). The About Phone/Status page still says Modified at the bottom.
Data from apps like my FlightTracker have no information so that will have to be re-entered. Passwords for apps and sync (or specific sync settings like NOT syncing GDrive or Gmail,) are not restated.
If for whatever reason you decide to do this, don't hesitate.
google
it's not an ICS specific function but more of a google play (formerly google market) function.
Google play knows which apps you have installed from them and on which device.
When you reset your device and input your google credentials, it will propose you to put back the previously installed apps.
Just surf to
play . google . com
log on and it will reflect what you already have installed, it also knows what you have paid for (you can install a paid app on multiple devices and only have to pay once) and at the bottom in "my orders and settings" you can see the devices you own and give them a name.
you can also review and install applications remotely from there. Click on install and your device will start downloading and installing it.
Well coming from a GB device I never saw/realized that the market can install all the apps automatically.

Since I rooted my phone I wiped and installed it countless times with roms (cyanogen mostly) from android 2.2 to the current 4.0.4
I always check that automatic backup is enabled in the relevant setting but I never seen it working.. I thought it was supposed to restore apps, wifi passwords and so on when, after a wipe, I configure my Google account, but no luck, it never worked for me.

[Q] Basic Q - where are paid apps stored + backup

As a new Android user with the samsung I have just downloaded and paid for my first App from the Play Store.
How do I back it up in case I need to restore it in the future?
Where is the app stored? I downloaded Sketchbook Pro but when I look in the folder that has been created there are no files!
Uset Titanium Backup for data. Play remembers that you purchased The app, so it probably even restores itself if you eg reset your device.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using XDA Premium HD app
No need to backup, really. Play Store will have it for you when you reset your device so you can install it again and on as many devices as you want as long as they use your email address.
If you are root. go to /system/ app/ this is where they usually are . Some apps use your personal media space to share data.. like in .. /sdcard/android/???? somtimes this is a folder called obb.. Sometimes the /sdcard could be / data/ sorry i do not yet have this tablet but looking forword to getting it . As soon as i get my refund for the two nexus 7 defective devices i sent back..
What about apps like Plague inc. which have in app purchases?

As long as you purchase from Google play and use the same email account, Google will remember the in-app purchases too. I purchased an app that had an in-app option which i also bought, installed the same app on two devices i.e.tablet and phone and had no issues including the in-app aspect.
App backup and restore works fine for me, just backing up the app but not the data.
Aside from the fact that your purchases are tied to your Google account as they said, you can use AirDroid (which is really really handy) to pull APK files from your device and make back-up copies on your PC. Just don't, you know, distribute them.

I use ES Taskmanager and ES Exlorer to backup and access my apps. It allows you to select where you want to save your backups and it gets all the apps I have tried including purchased apps like Sketchbook Pro. Then I like to copy the backed up apps and store them elsewhere for safe keeping in case for some reason that app gets dropped from where I got it or it is replaced with a version I don't like. BTW you don't need to know where the app is ES Taskmanager will find them. Note some apps when you find where they are they are listed with odd names like "vnz-1111881564.apk" for Kindle reader so knowing where they are does not really help all the time but ES Taskmanager shows the name you will recognize.

When you lost you phone , how to find it back even you do not install Find My Phone ?

When you lost a phone , how to find it back even you do not install Find My Phone ?
When you lost a phone , If you have installed Find My Phone application and activate it, it will be OK to locate, lock or even wipe your phone.
Actually you can still install Find My Phone even your phone is lost or stollen, and you do not need to setup anything.
Here is 2 steps -
1) Go to Play Store Website and Install Find My Phone —
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phonefindandlock
2) Text message where is my phone to your phone from your friend's or family member's phone, and your phone will alarm and return the location when it receives the message.
Note:
1) Text the message after installation. The installation will take around 30-60 seconds.
2) Try to do these as soon as possible when you can not find your phone.
3) Good luck
Didn't Google implement a device search and remote wipe option a while ago?

This app will make ppl feel very secure about their phones It is a must have app for everyone
Is it stealth?
OK, so I got four phones stolen from our store and, although I have the Life360 app, there's a huge radius of the location.
So I've been looking for ways to get into the phones and see if the person has taken pictures so I can identify who stolen the phones to the police.
Two questions: if I install this remotely, will it show on the phone or can it be installed without notifications? And once it is installed, can I remotely retrieve files from the phone?
ThankS!
