Newbie doubt´s: root, unlock bootloader, custom recovery - Android Apps and Games

Hello,
I need to know if to make root i have to unlock bootloader?
It´s possible root only?
Another question I have is if I can do the OTA updates after making root and change the recovery for TWRP?
Is there a root method able to do unroot for OTA updates?
Thanks!!

Hello
You should check on your phone's own thread. Search for it and check rooting tutorials there.

[Q] How to root 1.85 ?

Hi,
I have HTC One X with ATT. It's on 1.85 firmware. Is there any way to root it? I want to enable FM radio, NFC etc on the phone.
Please help if possible.
Regards,
Alex
hm.. i rooted before i was on 1.85, but there was a method in the forums i saw here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709424
another way u can achieve root, is if u unlock ur bootloader using ADB and just flash recovery from ADB, then u can flash a custom ROM that already has root. i'm no pro, but what i've learnt in the past few days may help u
just search the forums on how to unlock ur bootloader if u don't know how
Thank you very much for your quick reply.
I already looked for procedure to unlock the bootloader. But don't you think I need to be rooted to unlock the bootloader?
I am on 1.85 since I got HOX from ATT. As per my searches on XDA I think it was not possible to root 1.85 but I just wanted to check if someone found a way to do it.
Is there any way I can downgrade the firmware and root and upgrade back to 1.85 or to a custom ROM.
Regards,
Alex
Search harder. There is a STICKY in development for rooting 1.85 and like a thousand "how do I root 1.85?" threads in q+a all pointing to that same STICKIED thread.

Right ... stop ... and breathe...
The above is a bit confusing and I can't follow you. You are interchanging root and unlock - they are 2 different things.
a) Are you unlocked? Yes then it's very easy to obtain root.
b) If you want root and are locked then the ONLY way to do it is to follow the instructions in the general forum - sticky thread to downgrade to ICS .30 and then do incremental OTA updates to JB .25 using OTA root keeper from the play store.

Just realised you posted the same question twice....

how to relock bootloader and unroot

I want to relock the bootloader and unroot it because I want to sell it
Can anyone help me?
Maybe you should search before posting a new thread. This is not currently possible. You'll have to wait and see if there's progress.
You can relock. Use search.

question regarding Oreo 8.0 root solution

Apologies in advance if my question has already been addressed...
Do we have a working solution for permanently rooting Verizon's 8.0 OTA update?
I have seen a couple solutions for a successful root after flashing the stock image. I really don't what to wipe my phone
Thanks
Is your bootloader already unlocked? If so, then yes, the same way to root 8.0 for everyone, whether on Verizon or not. See the TWRP for 8.0 thread in the Development section.
If your bootloader is not unlocked already, then no, and it's likely you'll never be able to root it.
Alright alright! Definitely unlocked. Just wasn't sure. Thanks for the info.

Update rooted op6?

Hi.. I just got my op6 yesterday and I was thinking of rooting it.. I have unlocked my bootloader and I know how to root it but before rooting it I wanted to know if we can update op6 after rooting it? Is there any method? Or can we reatain root after update it? Will it replace twrp?
wow, you dont have to open a new thread for asking this, There are so many existing threads, You just have to read, and for your question yes you can update after rooting. for details please got through the forum.
I take it you didn't even bother to look at the first few posts in the guides? TL;DR yes you can update when rooted. Use the non-TWRP root and all you need to do is open magisk manager, install root to the second slot after an OTA, then reboot.
