Moto G Laggs - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
so i have device with 1gb of ram and whenever i browse through comments on facebook with google chrome, it lags noticeable. It really bothers me. Same happens with some other websites, while some other websites and browsing through facebook in general is smooth. On my old LG G2 i never had problems browsing through facebook comments. Is this because of the bad performance of this device or is it maybe a problem of chrome? If this really was due to the devices weak processor im deeply disappointed and im never gonna buy motorola again

Get the two gig, root or move most apps to sd. Clear cache whenever possible and use a lighter browser.

It's not really Motorola's fault, your moving from a flagship phone which has a high end fast CPU and more ram (2GB) compared to the 1GB moto g. If you get the 2GB moto g the performance is way smoother.

I'm hoping this is a troll post. You went from a flagship to a budget phone and expect the same experience? Come out of it.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

This is not a troll post. I mean it. The G2 came out 2 years ago, while the moto was released just a few weeks ago. Furthermore, where i live, the G2 only costs 50€ more than the Moto G with 1GB ram and the honor 6 from last year costs 70€ more than the Moto G with 1GB ram. So i didnt buy the G2 another time since i thought it is not worth spending money on a 2 years old device which probably wont get any updates anymore and also i wasnt really a fan of the lg ui. Also i read on many webpages that web browsing works just fine on the moto g. So chrome is not lightweighted enough? Which lightweighted browser is there except opera mini which is too spartanic to use? It is a shame motorola made a phone that costs as much as 2 year old flagships, but only has half of the performance. Well this definetely was my last motorola. I even rather have touchwiz or emotion ui before i have stock android (which i usually love while i hate manufacters ui) that is as slow as on the moto g and cant even properly handle chrome. Sad motorola...

I also have the 1 gig phone and I have no lags at all. Of course I wouldn't touch Chrome, it's a memory hog that I won't have. For fun though I did load it up and I have no lag even using that.

I still have moto g gen1. I have chrome disabled and use boat browser which I think is much better.

Just what is wrong with the nexus S?

I see cheap Chinese android phones with single core CPU not any better than nexus, 512mb ram and a really weak GPU having better gaming performance than the nexus S. We have such weird stuttering in a lot of games that is not found with other 1Ghz phones. On the other hand nexus S seems to give great framerates but just the performance is so inconsistent.
So what exactly is wrong? Does nexus S have poor ram speed or flash memory speed? If that is the case then I wonder why Google cheaped out as nexus S was a very expensive phone at launch!!

yeah its strange. the performance on this phone is very inconsistent. Cant really understand why the messaging app has some microlag in the opening animation for example. Its a really simple animation, it should not have microlag... if i set the animation to "ics animation" on nova launcher, animations do not have microlag anymore when opening apps. It seems that the animations and overall performance on JB is somehow broken
Another example is the app ANY.DO...on my girlfriends phone(galaxy s2), upon opening any.do, when the list of notes is displayed the animations are fluid. On my Nexus S, when the list of notes is displayed it is not fluid at all. I know the S2 is much more powerfull but still, it is just a simple list of notes loading and it should be as fluid as the S2 i think...

A friend told me that the galaxy S and nexus S have slow internal memory even by 2010 standards which is really pathetic since Samsung is the biggest manufacturer of flash memory.

My confusion comes from the fact that I have both a Galaxy S and a Nexus S and I find that the Galaxy is noticeably snappier and less laggy than the Nexus regardless of ROM. I was under the impression they largely have the same basic hardware. Go figure. I would prefer to use the Nexus because I make use of the camera flash every now and again, but the lag is just enough to aggravate me.
My Nexus ran circles around my uncles and mother in laws Galaxy S when it was configured as I had it below. And that was with a soon-to-be-fatal memory error. I had a bunch of weird performance problems with certain kernels, and spent an unusual amount of time getting it set up to be snappy with decent battery life, but eventually found it with the combo in my sig. Then 2 weeks later it died because of a bug in CWM Touch v6 :crying:
Jellybean animations are optimized more for the newer dual and quad core phones, although it is supported on the Nexus there is no way to make it as smooth IMO. Google has been doing this "Butter Project" for awhile now, which is basically it's name for the efforts they have placed on making Android run smoothly via the screen and touch interface. Program to program performance relies on the person writing the app.
Honestly this thing is a marvel. Any other phone I had that is 2 years or more older was nowhere near as relevant as this thing still is. It is still my favorite phone out, because of form factor. I feel they are getting too big for my tastes. Really wish they would drop another Nexus that is still this same size, with at least a snappy dual core and a couple gigs of RAM. Let's get serious, this thing is super out-dated but still has every feature you could ever want, it can't stay fast forever while cramming all this crap into it.
Want it fast? Put Gingerbread on it. I had it on mine for awhile, and it was blazing fast. Awesome if you only use it for a phone and light browsing, sucks if you use a lot of random apps because of compatibility issues though

I agree with this statement entirely. Form factor is going from phone to tablet and I don't like it. NS to me, has the best size and form. Good size of screen, holdable and fit nice in the pocket. Sadly, good bye are the days of 'phone-phones'.

Moto g for nexus 4?

In the store where i bought the moto g there's an offer for the nexus 4 so i could return the motorola and buy the nexus 4 adding 50€.
Now I don't know what to do, the nexus 4 is faster and it can be rooted without losing warranty...and I could use MIUI rom(<3)! Cons: battery, display and 50€ more expensive...does it worth?

If I were you, I'd refuse and stay with the Moto G.
Why? N4 is just a bit faster (1,5 vs 1,2 GHz) but it's already an "old" device (more than 1 year) and it's going to be officially supported for no more than other 6 months. Moto G combines great performances with absolutely huge battery life, that you won't have on a N4.
Obviously the N4 is supported by the community, so there will be plenty of roms in the future, but I'm sure that Moto G will be kept alive as well over the years.
Last but not least, the 50€ difference is not so convenient.
For the warranty, if you live in European Union (as it seems, since you wrote the price in €), rooting a device does not void the statutory warranty. So don't worry about that, it's the same for each device. Read more: http://fsfe.org/freesoftware/legal/flashingdevices.en.html
The Moto G is gonna have more support, and is a NEW DEVICE, that's the biggest point in favor to Moto G
I've used to own a Nexus 4 and it was a great phone. However I prefer my Moto G. It's very similar performance wise, but the Moto has much better battery life and I think the screen is also slightly better. The Nexus 4 does have a better camera though.

I have both and I like them both. If the prices were almost the same, I would pick the N4. Given the price difference between the N4 and Moto G, I would go with the Moto G.
Go for the Nexus 4.
I own both, Nexus 4 and Moto G. If I have to decide I'd pick the Nexus 4.
And I don't think it's smart to ask that question in a Moto G forum.

Yeah same here. The Moto G is a fine phone, but it feels like a budget phone (which is fine, it was 179..) The Nexus 4 feels like a premium device and has the hardware to match. You can't go wrong with either one but I'd stick with my N4 over my Moto G, no doubt.
I had a n4 now using a moto g. And I would keep my moto g if I was u. Battery life on the n4 was bad. And battery life on my g is better than my lg g2. So I'm gonna sell the g2 and keep my moto g as my daily. It will have support soon. A cheap 90% stock android experience with unlocked bootloader and root. Yea the g will have the support it needs. And to me the g doesn't feel cheap, build quality feels like a 400 dollar device to me???

What about quality of photos?
Is unlocking of g's bootloader causing a permament warranty void?
Lol are u really worried camera quality? But it takes decent pics to me go to the app thread for moto g there a pic quality thread in there and judge yourself

The moto g only has 1gb of RAM which is my biggest gripe because I'm always having to reload apps. However it depends what's important to you. If camera is and battery life isn't then go n4, otherwise come to the moto g.
Regarding developer support: I haven't seen a lot so far (2 ROM variations of stock) so I don't think the possibly of multiple ROMs will be as good as the n4

The g hasn't even been out a month. Roms take time( and usually the right people getting or interested in the device) so over time the g will get big dev support. And with my apps and music installed can't even tell I'm using a device with only 1gb of ram.
The problem with the n4 is the battery life. Makes Me wonder why the g with a lesser battery does a world of better battery life than the n4
Sent from my XT1034 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Devs on it for CM11 and if that works other Roms. But as said : It takes Time to port it. The MotoG will have great Support for Custom-Roms i'm sure. It's a nice Device for a unbeatable Price. You'll not see any Phone in the same Category soon to this Price.
I came from a Galaxy S3, and i dont have to regret this move. (Ok Display had a small crack, and repair was just too expansive (140 €).
I think Nexus 4 is a more 'premium' device. And you get more ram
Everyone who use android knows that its annoying when you are multitasking with heavy apps and when you switch to other app only to find it has been cleared off memory and has to be reloaded...
Edit: Also the argument about how nexus 4 is an older device
Am not an expert but I read that the soc used in nexus 4 altho older but was still very highend whereas in moto g its a newer butmidranged budget one.
So is this like an yr old Mercedes being compared to a brand new Volvo?

I would get the Nexus 4, no question it's better.
Someone above said it's only a bit faster, 1.5ghz vs 1.2ghz. There is way more too it than that. The S4 Pro (Krait) stomps the Snapdragon 400 (Cortex A7) into the ground. It's a seriously superior SoC.

But in real world usage you don't notice that at all. Lol
At the end of the day to me the g is a better device mainly due to the battery life. But once again it depends on what you need out of your android phone.

I currently have a Nexus 4 as my first smartphone and I'm considering switching to a Moto G, mostly because of it's superior battery life and it's less fragile back.
First of all, I got between 4,5h-5,5h SOT on my Nexus 4 (Stock Android 4.4.2, Nova Launcher, mostly no 3G and auto screen brightness, battery safing location sync). Since I stream music from Google Play the music app got a lot more resource hungry and I only get about 3-4h SOT, which is still okay, but causes a lot of focus battery life during the day. If you think you are a power user and you don't want to worry about your phone's battery life at the end of the day, definitly get the Moto G.
I've held the Moto G and the Nexus 4 both in my hands and the Nexus 4 definitly feels more like a premium device to me. The problem with the Nexus is its' fragile glass back. I keep my Nexus in a super unhandy flip case which is super unhandy and I always worry about dropping my Nexus. I guess I'd be less paranoid about dropping a Moto G, since at least it's back can't break if I'd drop it.
Put N4 in a TPU case, no worries about the back then.
I have both!, moto g (my wife) its super fast, but N4 (mine) it's faster, better ram, better looking, better support, best reseller (only less battery)

[Q] Considering to buy a Moto G, but I have some questions

Currently I have an Xperia L, what I could sell for around $135. It's not a bad phone, and spec-wise it's similar to the Moto G, that's why I'm not sure if I should spend an extra $70 to get a used Moto G (which is in a perfect condition). $70 is not that much money, but I'm still a student with no income, so I have to think about what I spend my money on.
I mean the Moto G definitely sound better, there's KitKat, a better battery life, a much better screen, a bigger screen (although it's not that much bigger), and custom roms (which I probably wouldn't use as long as there's official support, and there are also some custom roms for Xperia L, but my phone's bootloader is not unlockabe), but I'm not sure if it's really worth it.
I guess my question is what could be some of the cons of the Moto G, are there any common problems, and is there anything that might make me not like this phone?
I think I wouldn't miss anything from my current Xperia L but the camera and the camera interface, both of which I like, but I don't take that much pictures anyways.
Other than the camera, the only thing you would miss would be expandable storage, which the Moto G doesn't have. Other than that, Moto G is almost flawless.

This phone does not required anu reviews.

That's the best comparison I've seen in while and made me crack up a bit
As I've used Moto G for a bit over a month now, Only problems I see with it are: no removable battery and no sd slot
Although camera isn't the greatest, it does the job. By that you should expect that phone ain't gonna compete with SLR camera.
Issue with no sd card slot I've fixed with USB OTG SD card reader. It isn't as great as going with real sd, because it takes the usb slot, and sometimes pain to carry around, but it does great for expanding storage when needed ( long trips - music library or movies )
As of the phone, I don't thing you can get anything as responsive and fast in the price range it is at. If none of my complaints did not bother you,
just go for it.
You can't go wrong with this.
There's a new variant with 4G and a micro SD slot.

This is though one, cos Xperia L is quite a good phone and by getting Moto G is debatable if you are really upgrading or not.
I think that your biggest "IF" should be about the screen, cos that's the only thing you'll actually feel as an upgrade the most.
If I were you I'd stick with the Xperia L for another 12 months.

I haven't even filled 1.5 GB of storage on my current phone, so it's not a problem if there's no expendable storage.
Btw, now I'm a 100% sure I'm gonna switch to Moto G, I've already found a buyer for my current phone, and I'll buy the Moto G this Saturday or next Tuesday.
Thanks for the replies.

There isn't and the cores in the Xperia L are actually better performing than the ones in the S400.
Android is not that up to par to effectively manage more than 2 threads anyways. With the current resource management it's actually sometimes better to have less cores/threads.
Anyway, the OP has made his choice, which he won't regret.

Still worth buying/using?

Hello everyone,
I am in the market to pickup a used cell phone for one of my lines, I have been looking at a used G2. All of my Android phones have been Samsung and HTC (since the HTC Evo days). I only need the phone for texting and light calling for this secondary line with a decent screen. I am currently using a LG L90 for this line and though it meets my needs for the most part, texting on it is terrible. Do you think this phone is still worth using? I have never had a LG phone so I am curious about the great things I have head about the phone. Any thoughts? Thanks.
I still think it's one of the best values around. FYI, I currently have a One M7, a LG G2, and a Moto Maxx (unlocked, non-carrier Droid Turbo). But if I had to choose only one, it would be the LG G2.
I use lg g2 daily and it still competes with the flagships coming out today
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk
Oh God, yes. And I'm only using the stock Kitkat ROM, just rooted, and it's still perfect. It would be even faster and fresher if I updated to a custom ROM, or Lollipop. I happen to "settle" for the LG software because it's relatively unbloated with T-Mobile, and it has a lot of nice extras like QuickRemote and other little touches. The only thing I don't use is the stock launcher -- instead I opt for Nova.
I have 120+ apps installed, and put multitasking to the test by frequently switching between several memory intensive tasks. Throughout all of this it rarely gets hot, and if it does, it's because of the screen running at 100%. I've never noticed the phone throttling (wish I could say the same about my LG L90, for sure).
You could likely find it for about $100 if you looked hard enough at Craigslist. I couldn't find one fast enough and just picked this one up at TMo for only $100 and financed the rest.
Thanks everyone....
I have went ahead and picked up a G2 on Swappa. I do not use it a lot since its my secondary phone for more than emails, calls and text but i really like it. Because of it i picked up the G4 for my primary phone. Thanks everyone for the comments

Stuck between nexus 6 or moto x pure, i want a phone that will get the latest updates

I'm currently on a lg g2, and i want to switch to a better, relatively more stock android as im tired of companies clunking up bloatware and skins.
nexus 6 is 4349.99 32gb while Moto x pure is $399.99, What i want is the phone that will get supported by google longer< hence more up to date features, the moto x is brand new, while the nexus 6 is a year old. if i understand right the nexus 6 should atleast get another year of support by google, but does that mean the moto x will be supported longer. Another is battery, which you cant really put a opinion on since it depends on usage. Processor- although the moto x has a newer processor, i hear there isnt a huge difference between the 2. camera- they look similar honestly. My biggest thing i guess is overall purest android. I want just stock and i want the phone thats going to get the latest update.
