Hi
Does anybody know what board fixes this issue.
Definitely a hardware problem as it does it on recovery.
It is getting progressively worse.
Used to be when it was hot, bit even doing it at normal temperature now.
Took phone apart and remade all connectors, still the same.

Maybe you could try replacing the usb flex cable? The connection to the screen goes through that, and they are 10-20 on ebay or amazon which is substantially cheaper than replacing the motherboard or the screen.

Hi
Yes I noticed that ribbon cable. Thanks for providing the name of it.
Found one on eBay. I'll let you know if it works.
Fingers crossed, cheers.

Good luck, hope you get your nexus 5 working again.
Worked a treat. Only 1 problem, the first flex cable they sent me the led was different colours and the mic didn't work.
Second cable worked fine.
Thanks for suggesting the fix.

So I'm finally getting to mess with the HDMI mirroring and after a couple of minutes basking in the glory of my phone in full screen, the signal goes dead and so does the phone. Nothing works. I tried to reboot, nothing. I pulled the battery and when I did it smelled as if something burned. Did something get pushed to hard? Could it have been the cable?
I'm assuming since this is the first post I've seen about this that no one else has experienced this. Oh well... off to TMo.

That sounds exactly like what happened to my phone. Maybe it was the cable?? Don't know. But I will be returning the phone Monday.
Back to the vibrant for a couple of days. I heard Eugene is releasing a new update soon.

I got it from Monoprice.com. I will be getting my next one from the local best buy. Not that theirs can't crap out but I know the mfgs they carry. I have no idea where Monoprice gets theirs.

I don't want to scare anyone that purchased from monoprice as people in the thread say they've had good dealings with them. I must have just received a bad cable. But I will opt to deal with someone I know better.

Eeek! I wish there were a way to find out what happened internally.
Sounds like a short. Make sure ur connections are free of Lint etc. Happened to me once with USB.

Do you know if it was the unit or just the battery that went dead?

It was the handset. The battery was around 70% when I plugged the cable in.
I'm not sure what they cost but doesn't $8 sound kind of cheap for an HDMI?
Also, this phone suffers a serious over heating problem.

Now I'm all paranoid about using the cable I bought from monoprice. Has anyone else bought one and made sure the monoprice cables are NOT an issue?
I have a monoprice cable.
I was using it in portrait mode, when everything was fine.
The instant I turn it over into landscape the connection dies, phone dies, phone gets really really hot, and the battery percentage drops from 80 to near 10-15%. The phone actually seems "bricked" right up until you plug it into the wall charger. Without plugging it in, it doesn't turn back on.
I thought me turning it sideways into landscape was doing this. Can everyone else turn it sideways when mirroring without the phone freaking out?
I didnt buy mine from monoprice but from ebay. The cable and the micro hdmi adapter worked fine in landscape and portrait mode. Hope that helps. Maybe you got a bad cable.

I was always in the settings menu of the stock launcher when I tried it. So you could turn your phone sideways in the stock launcher and have it turn out fine?
My skyrocket has been having difficulties charging. I find that I have to lift the cable higher than the phone itself (so as to create some kind of upward pressure on the port) for it to charge, or else it won't charge at all. The cable also feels really loose when I try to plug it in.
A friend of mine has a portable HD cable that I borrowed for a while, and it seemed to fit really snug and had no problems with charging at all. Maybe I should get another USB cable? Which cables have you guys found to work really well? This is all very frustrating.
What should I do?
My cable is a bit loose also and sometimes while using it it will charge then disconnect over and over again. I use my cable from my atrix and it works just fine. But I am sure any cable would work fine. As long as it plugs in.

I bought the DigiPower SP-PKAND Power Kit for Android for $30 and all my problems are now solved. I feel like my phone is all alive again. Honestly, I feel so free now, the feeling is amazing. Best product I have purchased for my phone.

I noticed today that my charging port seems to be loose. I've never dropped the phone or had any other issues with it. But I noticed that my phone was on the charger and not charging. I then moved the connection slightly and it started charging again. If it gets moved at all it doesn't charge. So two questions:
1. Does anyone know if AT&T warranty will cover something like this? I called and got a really generic answer so I might just have to go into the store... blah
2. If it isn't covered in the warranty, does anyone have any idea where to buy a new port and/or how to fix it??

That sounds like user damage/wear and tear which is not covered AFAIK, unless you got the add-on insurance.
I've only had the phone for about 20.days and I'm always really careful with my phones. I'm going.to take it in the store to see if I can get a warranty replacement... I'm probably not even going to unroot or anything lol. wish me luck.
Have you tried a different cable....the ports can get damaged, but it's typically the cable end that wears and it seems like its the port

I can confirm this...just happened to me , new cable did it...
I tried another cable almost immediately and it was still not working. But I found an old kindle usb chord and tried it... the connection is nice and tight. I had to modify the case I put on my phone so the kindle chord would fit but now it works great and the chord is almost twice as long as the original HTC chord!
worked a treat

Thanks for this, worked a treat ... grabbed an old water cam cable. :good:
Hoping it's normal and not just mine, because I plug/unplug mine more than the average person.
Directly comparing to my year old Nexus 4 -- there's a lot more side-to-side play in the USB port. It doesn't feel as solidly plugged in...
Anyone with both devices notice the same? Nexus 4, the plug doesn't wiggle at all, but in the Nexus 5 it wiggles in any directly.
Not a major issue.
USB Port difficult to plug
I am having the opposite problem. I have noticed it takes a fair amount of pressure to plug the usb into the nexus 5 port
and likewise with unplugging. I am concern the extra force will affect the port or usb cord over time. I left a message with Google helpdesk so will see if this is just my phone or a defect in port or plug.

yah, too tight for me too. :/
Once the USB is plugged in mine has a fair amount of Wiggle/ feels loose.
Think I'm going to return my phone as I also have the power button issue.
I found its to tight when you plug the micro port to your phone straight, but if you put the left side (or right side) first then slide the opposite side, it plugs in much much more easily.

If you had a Gnex you wouldn't be complaining about it being too tight. The USB port on the Gnex was a huge issue.

Mine was extremely tight. Then one charge later became loose side to side and up and down.
Is it the connector inside? I wonder if it moved out of position and I can move it back.
bringing an old thread back.
My USB port is also "loose" that it actually stops charging if I move it. Super annoying because it's a replacement phone I got last week. My old one didn't do this. Tried multiple USB cables.

if it is like you said with it not wanting to charge, then it is broken/faulty made. I would send it for a replacement in a heartbeat

I would but I just got this one as a replacement. but I found my wife s4 white cable stays snugged with little play. I'll use that one now.. lol. But if its gets worse, I still got warranty time.
Try a different usb cable. It's not the usb "port" that gets loose overtime, it's actually the male end of the usb cable that gets loose. If you look at the connector at the end of the cable, you'll see 2 hooks on the top of it, overtime they become looser, that is your problem.
When I first got the n5 and tried it with the oem cable they included, it was a very tight fit. However, when I went to try another cable it felt much easier to plug in.

hey, I ended up using my wife s4 cable. It's the white samsung. No issues. I guess the original LG allowed to much play.

I RMA's mine for this very reason. The cable simply would not stay in. The replacement phone had no such problem.

i'd try with other cables, tried with my brother's htc usb cable yesterday, it charged normally, but this problem arises randomly, so might have to test for few more days.. :highfive:
Clean out the usb port, blow some compressed air in there or carefully use a toothpick. Even a small amount of dust or debris can cause the cable to feel loose. Then once it's fixed, throw away all wall chargers and use a wireless pad
Hello
Yesterday i was repairing my car charger and I touched red cable with green. Nexus immediately turned off. Since then i can't charge my phone. Probably the charging module is burned. I read a lot of articles about opening and swapping parts, but I can't find anywhere information about where, on which part is this charging module. Maybe on motherboard, maybe on plate stick to motherboard, or maybe on the "tape" where also is the micro usb port. Please help, because i don't know what should i swap :-/
Look for le55ons Nexus 5 disassembly tutorial on YouTube. He makes fantastic close up videos of taking the Nexus 5 apart.
Why would you repair something plugged in and powered up?

oh, it's a long stupid story i know. It's only my fault... Thanks @dkconor I watched le55ons. He answered my question. Now I must buy new motherboard :/ but it must be from european version, because in USA there is diffrent 4G frequency...
Surely you'll find one with a smashed screen to salvage from on eBay?

I can order new motherboard, but I think it will be cheaper to buy crushed nexus. Am I wrong?
