SD card partitioning - Android General

I have a 128 gb sd card that im using with my s5. Partitioning was easy enough, but as I was following a tutorial, I only made my partition 2.6 GB. Can I afford to make a larger partition? IE: 15 GB? Whats a recommended size for my SD card? Thanks!

sd card format - fat16 or fat32 ?

i have a 2 gb sd card which i plan to use as storage in my flashed tilt.
i formated it as fat32, but guess there is some problem doing that as my tilt has started giving me a critical alarm that there is very little space on the storage device - i have hardly used 50MB in the 2GB sd card being used as the storage !!
can someone advise me the file system (fat16 / fat32) to be used & its allocation unit size for use of the 2GB SD card in the tilt.
thank you

I use FAT32. card standard allocation unit size.
Use 128mb,256mb,512mb mSD to flash with.
Carlis
FAT32
I use FAT32...see the 8GB link in my signature for a link to a thread that has a great app that specifically formats the SD card in a proper way.
FAT32 is much more efficient.

[Q] How to upgrade from 2GB card to 16GB card on G1

Hi I have a HTC G1 running cyanogen which came with preformatted 2GB card which had been partitioned to have a 500 MB space for apps. I would like to be able to copy the contents of what is already on the 2GB card onto the 16GB card while keeping the allocation the same. I was told that if I made an image of the 2gb card and copied it onto the 16gb card it would resolve the issue. I used Arconis to make an image of the 2gb card and used the "recover" function of the program to apply the image onto the 16gb card but when I placed the 16gb card into the G1 it reads it as a 2gb card. This is not a case of the card being fake as I had to reformat it to get the 16gb size back. I think that Arconis simply partitions the new card(16gb) to be an exact image of the 2gb card. Is there another program I can use that would help me apply the 2gb image while keeping the new card's size correct (16gb)?
Any and all help and comments are much appreciated

OK, First, make a nandroid of your existing ROM with the original SD
AmonRA:
Backup/Restore
NAND + ext backup
CONFIRM
Power phone off
Put New SD Card in
Get back into Recovery
Partition SDCard
Partition SD
Confirm
Swap Size=whatever CONFIRM
Ext2 Size=512 CONFIRM
FAT32 will default to remainder
Then, transfer all the files to the new card (you at least need to transfer the new nandroid image).
Restore nandroid & you should be good to go [restore is so you'll get the SD:ext files restored].

[Q] Partitioning a new Micro SD card Ext4 and Fat32 ?

Hi i just bought a new micro sd card class 10 and 16gb
i have my phone s-off and rooted, 4ext Recovery 2.1.0 in boot, LBC MOD 0.5.3
So the questions is how should i format this new card to benefit at max.
Should i directly copy the old card content to the new card and then full format the card to ext4? Or what?
What should i put in Ext4 partition and what to put in fat32 if you suggest me to have both.
And the last question should i use the mount menu or just format it and the rest will be held by the phone..
Thanks

I wouldn't bother using a partition on the SD card....so simply format the entire thing as FAT32.
SD-EXT partitions are only really intended for older devices with reduced internal storage, we should have adequate. Are you running short of internal space?
I personally don't bother locating any applications on SD as they all fit in internal memory and run faster from there anyway!
So what about HD videos bigger than 4 gb? So you mean that we only need EXT4 only if the internal memory of Desire S is not enough. What about a Class 10 sd card speed VS the internal memory speed? any idea or test about that? if the class10 card is faster than the internal memory?
Afraid that I don't know any of that
Perhaps perform some tests and post the results back, I'd be interested in them
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
Its not necessary

Micro SD Card repartioning

So i was looking through 4Ext touch's recovery menu and i saw an option in tools to check for sd card partition alignment so i did and according to that the sd card partitions were not properly aligned (whatever that means) so i backed up the data on my sd card and went to repartition it and now it's asking me to choose a partition size for the 1st and 2nd partition plus the swap. I have no idea what to put, i have a 32gb class 10 sd card. Can someone please explain to me what does this whole sd card partition alignment means and what should i choose?
We dont need to partition SD card for inspire. It is for devices will less ROM space, where you partition SD card and use it as phone storage. So just delete all partitions, and just have one.

Ok, thank you very much.

How to use the ext4 partition ?

So I've made a 2 GB's ext4 partiotion on my 16 gb's sd card, and installed Link2SD. When I send an app to the sd card it moves to the non-partitiond sd card and takes up a lot of the internal space :/
What are the exact steps to get everything working correctly ?
Thanks.

Instead of Links2SD, use Mounts2SD.
