i picked up the polaroid 9 inch internet tablet (pmid920 model number) for $88 bucks today from menards that came with a keyboard and the case and the tablet. I dinked around with it for a bit doesn't seem to bad besides not having the android market, im ok with the tablet seems decent for the price and the basic needs i will be using it for. But when searching the internet I can't find a single review or a guide to root it or any custom roms. Has anyone else purchased this tablet on black friday? or heard good or bad things? Any help how i could get root and flash a rom or atleast get play market? Thanks guys.
specs:
android 4.2
1.6 Ghz Dual-Core
Ram: 1gb/DDR3
Res:1024x600
Int Mem: *gb
Ext Mem: Micro Sd
I picked one up as well and also have been un able to find any info on how to root it or install Google play.
polaroid pmid920
I also got one today but im hesitant to open it without reading a good review. How is the performance? Is it sluggish or does it respond well? I also just bought a sansung galaxy tab 3 7.0 and im disappointed because of how slow it is. Can anyone confirm the response of this tablet? I want to be sure thid time before I regret openning the bix. I searched for other sites and it doesnt seem to be one of the recognized models by android. Thats probably why theres no google play.does it allow installation of apps from other sources? Thanks for any review ir response!
I got a similar deal yesterday; Insignia Flex 8
Having the same problem with rooting. Seems like not many people try with these budget tablets.
What chip is it running?
I wonder if it's similar to the flex and maybe the same method will work for both?
PMID920 Root ?

Please do! I want to try it on the flex.
Try su in a terminal and make sure it works. Though I think you should be good root checker reports ok.
Root files
I take no credit for these programs and files
I used the modded usb windows drivers in file below to install
the drivers for the PMID920
I used Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v32 to root the device
selecting option one, and following the on screen instructions
it did not take the first time around, I tried every selection I could
I even un rooted via all methods, but every time it said success
I would check with root check pro and after about the 8th time the damn thing worked.
Try selection ( 1 new ) from the get go, maybe you wont have an issue like me
it kept looking for an ric file, but it would not create it, it seems to have worked
after I created the file.
Now we need recovery, google play, 4.4 kitkat, just messing !
Please post your results.
Edit; got gapps installed, this things turning out to be alright.
needs gps though !
Show some love and hit the thanks.
Seemed to Work for me on the first time.
Have you found any custom roms with Google play and the stock apps that work on it?
How did you guys get it to recognize your device?
Every time I try, it says "Please connect Device with USB Debugging to your computer"
My tablet is connected, with USB debugging on

Yeah, well, I just installed DPInst in the folder. Was there something else I should do?
Google play works
Google play works great with the stock ROM!
1 root device as above.
2 download JB gapps, unzip it on your PC and copy the system folder over to this device sdcard/download folder
3 find and install root explorer, copy apk to device and install, run it and click parent folder until you are in root directory
now click read write, instead of read only on the top left to give it permission to write files, navigate to sdcard/download where
the JB gapps system folder was copied, click copy with root explorer as paste it in your root directory where the system folder is,
it will ask you if you want to merge the folder click yes and let it finish, once done reboot your tablet and you will be prompted
to set up a Google account.
You now have Google play, Google tts, calander, voice search, gmail and a brand new toy!

What device are you trying to root the tablet from,
From a windows device you download and extract the USB driver files
you may need to run the driver setup as administrator, after install check
and see if you have adb device in control panel, system manager, it should not
have an exclamation sign on it, if you need lead device to driver folder.
Also try another USB port, and try to unplug the device and plug it back in when the program is looking for it.
Im returning mine, as i found at walmart they had a 10.1" tablet for $99 that had good reviews on amazon. This tablet seemed to be hit or miss for the 7 inch version after finding reviews on amazon. awesome that it was found how to find root, i just couldn't stand the screen as it seemed u had to be straight on with it or it was hard to see. for a extra $11 i figured i'd return in to menards and go with the 10.1" tablet. Here is the link for it.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/TRIO-Stealth-G2-10.1-Tablet-Dual-Core-with-16GB-Memory/26973760
any info on this one?
Is there any dedicated sites for tablets? as xda seems clearly for mobile devices..

I got this tablet just last night. I truthfully wouldn't mind if it couldn't access the market, except that the stock youtube player on the device doesn't seem to be able to play playlists, just single videos, it won't auto-play any playlists.
I've downloaded the android market (Gapps-2.3.4.zip) on the device and installed it, but whenever I try to open the market, it asks me to add an account, and clicking yes just closes back to the main screen.
I tried Lionideas (sp?) steps, downloading both the root by recovery and usb driver. I installed dpinst-32bit.exe, as well as running adb.exe (wasn't sure if both were necessary, or if any further steps are necessary.)
After that, I enabled USB debugging on the device (there's a notification on the top status bar that it's running), connected it to my PC, and ran the runme.bat file. Selecting option one, it tells me to connect a device with usb-debugging enabled, and halts there...as far as I can tell I've followed the steps, can anyone enlighten me?
When I try to use adb.exe to remove entries in my dhcp folder the rm command is not recognized.

Update okay finally after hours of searching and trying a few commands I got adb to accept all commands however phone still says "obtaining ip address" forever. Any ideas?
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. What are you trying to do? Messing with system folders and files can lead to your device not working properly.

At the moment I am just trying to get my phone to connect to my wifi at home.
It is an Alcatel one touch Fierce 2 using Android 4. 4. 2
when I enter my wifi password it continually says obtaining IP address. I was trying something that I read on this site and was not having a lot of luck.
so hopefully we can figure out what's going on

I figured i out...wasn't the phone, it was my wifi
now on o better things.
Glad you got it fixed. I'll close this thread.
Recently I was playing around with my Samsung GT-P3110, having just rooted it.
I transferred a file using adb push, it appeared to work, the problem is now I can't get it off, nothing I do using root and command line on the tablet or root explorer makes it budge!
I did the transfer after an aborted rom install which left my tablet going straight to CWM recovery, I was trying to transfer a backup onto the tablet. Trouble is that I am now running low on space and this folder is about 2Gb.
I can't see an adb command to delete from the tablet, plus adb is no longer seeing the tablet either!
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Katoiam
I followed you on your little quest for an answer, and was saddened by the response. Not one helpful word, just a bunch of people telling you to go somewhere.
I don't own a Tab myself, but encountered the exact same problem on my G3. There was no way to edit the permissions, so Android considered it untouchable.
The solution is an easy one and I can't believe no one could spare the time to say "Delete it in Recovery" but that's what it'll take.
So I have never been able to root a device before. Have tried before with my phones but never figured it out. So right now I have a new kindle that I'd like to root. Install the Android market and remove the lock screen ads. So I'd like to set it up before Christmas since I'm giving it as a gift. Any help is appreciated.
My biggest issues I believe is getting the drivers to install. I can't get the device to show up on adb.
I get the following message:
'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I am working from a Windows 7.1 computer. Again thank you for any and all help.

Hello,
You may try using this tool Minimal ADB and fastboot.
Also, you may register for a XDA account to post as well as reply in the forum.

I have a ZTE tablet model K90U, Android version 6.0.1. I tried Kingoroot and it failed. I next tried iRoot and the tablet keep blocking iRoot. Saying the prog maybe infected or corrupted. I have been looking for info to root this tablet without luck. I know from having successfully rooting at lease 4 phones, 2 tablets and hard bricking 1 phone. That I know the right setup has to be used or else, and I don't need the "or else". So what do I use to root this tablet? I am lost. I have (and used) ADB and Fastboot if I can find the right cmd's for this tablet.
Steve
After days and days of searching the internet I finely found the right key file for the ZTE K90U tablet at www.opensource.ztedevice.com/ But I have 1 other small problem. Do to a clumsy mistake that I made while I was recombining 2 partitions back into 1 on a SD card for a tablet that I sold. I didn't pay attention to which drive letter I was on and I accidently deleted the partition on my D storage HD in the USB case were I store install prog's, info files like how to use prog's like fastboot and CWM. I am having to rebuild those instruction files. I think I found the right one for fastboot at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277112 . But I am not 100% sure. I also not sure whether I should use fastboot or CWM to root the ZTE tablet.

Greetings and welcome to assist. I can find very little information at all on your device, if you have cm recovery for it then I would use that to flash the latest su zip to get root
Good Luck
Sawdoctor
I posted the wrong link. This is the right one http://opensource.ztedevice.com
Update:
I have found in the tablet's recovery mode (power + volume down) that this tablet doesn't have a normal menu. Instead of the "boot=download" or "boot to download{". This tablet has :
Apply update from abd
apply update from sd card
Under the "apply update from adb" is "now send the package you want to apply to the device with, adb sideload <filename>."
I have gotten as far as the cmd "adb devices" and reply back "list of devices attached, 21499c28 device".
Now if I do a "adb reboot bootloader" the tablet reboots normal mode then a box comes up saying "allow USB debugging and a box to check ok". I check ok, the box goes away and then after that nothing happens. If I type "fastboot boot bootload". The terminal window just sits there with the words on it "waiting for any device". And that's were I am stuck. What is "adb sideload"? I could use some help please.
Steve

I found an article that explains what "sideloading" is http://www.wow.com/wiki/Sideloading But it doesn't help me as far as solving my problem.
Well I finely figured out the syntax of the cmd structure for this tablet. I now have the tablet talking to my laptop. Now I just need to find the right recovery-CWM image file for this tablet.

Thanks Sawdoctor for the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/guide-how-to-compile-twrp-source-step-t3404024 I am going to give it a wack. I also have an advantage over someone trying this out of the gate cold turkey. I have written prog's in MSDOS Basic and Windows Visual Basic. It is not the same as Ubuntu and Android. But writing code is writing code. If you don't have all your ducks lined up in the right order and all your T's crossed and all your I's doted right the prog won't work.
